A/N As a fanfic writer, I obviously don't get paid for my time writing this story. However, the thing I love most is reviews from my loyal readers. So, if you've read this story all the way through, please drop me a comment. It will only take a second or two and will mean the world to me.
I want to thank a few people who have reviewed almost every chapter of this long story. Navywife07, Kouga's older woman, MMTyler, Tpswasshri27, FireBlue77, Moni127, nhatfield4683, Tanino Delsan13, and bkhchica (sorry if I missed someone). Thank you for your consistent reviews. They kept me motivated when I was struggling through the muddled middle.
Epilogue
Seventeen years later
"Charlie! Give me back my phone," Sarah yelled as she chased her little brother down the hallway. He may be five year's younger than her, but he was fast.
"Are you texting Har-ry?" he goaded her in his sing-song voice.
"None of your business!"
"Hey, Will, catch!" he called out as he lobbed the phone over Sarah's head into his brother's waiting hands.
"Good throw," Will said.
He turned to run down that passage when he ran straight into his older brother. Luke grabbed the phone easily and tossed it back to his twin.
"Thanks," Sarah sighed, before walking back down the hall, past her annoying younger brothers. She sat on the lounge and resumed her text message.
Luke followed her but settled into Mom's reading nook and opened a huge book. It was probably something by JRR Tolkien, judging by the size. Sarah was not really into reading, unlike her twin.
"Dad!" Charlie groaned, walking into the kitchen. "Do you have to do that?"
Sarah looked from her phone to see her parents making out in the kitchen. Mom was sitting on the bench, and Dad stood between her knees.
"Gross," Will complained. "That's how we ended up with Beth."
"That'd how we ended up with you doofus' as well," Sarah said under her breath. Her fourteen and thirteen-year-old brothers were the bane of her existence.
"Hey!" Dad scolded the boys. "First off, you love your little sister, so I don't want to hear you say that again. Got it?" Dad raised his eyebrow, challenging them to defy him. Beth may have been a surprise, but she was dearly loved by everyone, especially Dad. Mom leaned in and rested her head on his chest. They acted like teenagers, but Sarah had grown used to it over the years.
"Yes, Dad," the boys mumbled, lowering their eyes to the ground.
"And secondly, I can kiss your Mom whenever I want. It's my house. You are welcome to go outside or to your room if you don't want to watch."
"But, I'm hungry," Will complained.
"Breakfast is nearly ready. Go wash up," Mom said. She patted Dad on the chest, indicating for him to step back.
Instead, he leaned in closer and whispered, "but, I like you at this height."
Sarah could hear him kissing her again but tuned them out. After seventeen years of supernatural hearing, she had learned a thing or two about blocking things she did not want to hear.
"I think it's so womantic," Beth said in a dreamy voice as she walked into the room. Dad said he didn't have favorites, but Sarah wasn't sure. Maybe, it's because the boys are as annoying as hell, except for Luke; he's pretty reserved. Or, perhaps it's because Sarah was grown up and nearly ready to leave home.
"Come here," he told her. He picked Beth up and threw the four-year-old in the air before sitting her on the bench next to Mom. Dad's growls and her giggles fill the room. Mom kissed Beth's head before sliding off the bench and walking over to the stove.
The boys came skidding into the room. "Set the table, please," Mom asks them.
A few minutes later, they are all seated around their large dining table, eagerly awaiting the breakfast casserole Mom had made. With three wolves and an ex-wolf at the table, there was always a mountain of food. However, the boys knew to wait for the girls to serve themselves first. Not only as a sign of respect but also because there were never any leftovers.
"So, what's everyone's plan for today?" Mom asked.
"Well," Beth started first. She always started first, which is ironic since she doesn't have to do anything. "I'm going to make some cookies, then Mommy and me are going to decorate them. After that, I will watch The Grinch while eating the cookies. After that, I'm going to play with Sally. She has to go to the Doctor." Sally is her doll.
"Sounds like a fun day," Dad said with a smile.
"Chase and I are going spelunking," Will told everyone.
Both grandfathers were ecstatic to have a grandchild named after them. However, after a few months of confusion, Mom and Dad decided to use Will and Chase as their nicknames; unless they were in trouble, which was more often than not.
"And, where are you going to find underwater caves?" Mom asked.
"We found some cool rocks in one of the river tributaries when we were out patrolling yesterday. So we are going to go diving to see what we can find," he told her.
Dad eyes them suspiciously. "Who is we?"
"Um, Oli and Quil," Charlie told him.
"Do their parents know?" Mom asked.
"How am I suppose to know?" Charlie replied sarcastically.
Mom and Dad share a glance. "I'll contact them," Mom said, placing her hand on Dad's.
"They are all strong swimmers; they should be fine," Dad told her.
"I know," Mom said. She always worries.
"So, what about you, Sarah?" Dad asked her.
"Hannah and I are meeting some friends in town."
"Are you taking the boys with you?" Dad asked, looking towards Luke. He shrugged his shoulders.
"No, just because they are our imprints doesn't mean we need to do everything with them. We are strong, independent women."
The younger boys snicker. Dad watched her carefully like he could sense she was hiding something.
"Who's Alice?" Will asked, peering at Sarah's phone that had just flashed on the table. Sarah quickly flipped it over and pulled it closer to her body.
"A friend," Sarah said bluntly.
"And, is this the friend you are meeting in town?" Dad asked.
"Maybe."
"Alice, who?" Mom asked.
There was a beat of silence as all eyes focused on Sarah.
"Cullen," she mumbled.
"What?" multiple voices fill the room.
"Did you know about this?" Dad asked Luke.
Luke frowned as he looked between Dad and Sarah. He gave Sarah an apologetic look. "No, I did not. I wouldn't let them go alone."
Dad turned his furious gaze on Sarah. "So, let me get this straight. You were going to leave town, take Hannah with you, and meet up with a vampire?"
"Ooooo," the two goobers said in unison.
"Two," Sarah added. In for a penny, in for a pound. Isn't that the saying?
"Two?" Mom and Dad said together.
"Jasper will be with her, although he probably won't be interested in hanging with us for too long."
Luke and Dad both ran their hands through their hair in sync. It would be funny if the room weren't so tense.
"What? I've seen her plenty of times before."
"That was when we were there with you," Dad said through gritted teeth.
"They won't hurt me."
"Harry and I will go with them," Luke finally said, ignoring Sarah's comment.
"Thank you, Luke," Mom said. "Did Alice know you were coming alone?" she asked Sarah.
"Maybe... Yeah."
Mom sighed. "I'm coming with you."
"What? No. Please, Mom. Luke and Harry will be sufficient."
"I need to speak to Alice... again."
"I'm coming with you," Dad added. Sarah's mouth gapped open, but she knew fighting would be useless.
"Ugh, fine," Sarah grumbled. She lowered her head to the table and quickly shoveled the remaining food into her mouth. Then, she stood up from the table and took her plate to the dishwasher.
"What time and where?" Dad asked.
"Ten at the Cullen mansion."
"You have got to be kidding me," Luke said, finally his annoyance was showing through. He was usually very chill and extraordinarily patient. He surprisingly made a good alpha once Dad stepped down. His calm nature filtered through to the rest of the pack.
"Well, we can't exactly meet in Forks. Someone might recognize them."
"Heaven forbid someone sees you with them," Dad mumbled.
Sarah ignored them as she walked back towards her room.
"Am I coming with you to see Aunty Alice and Uncle Jasper?" Beth asked excitedly.
"Yes, sweetie. We can still do the cookies before we go."
"Yay! Maybe we can bring them to share ... Oh, wait," she laughed at herself. "Never mind."
At exactly nine-thirty, a Ford Ranger drove into the Black's driveway. Harry had picked Hannah up on his way over. They both climbed out of the dual-cab pick-up and headed to their respective partners.
"Hey, Beautiful," Harry said as he pulled Sarah into a passionate kiss.
Luke hugged Hannah but gave her a more family-friendly kiss.
"Really, Harry?" Dad said as he walked out the front door with Mom and Beth.
"Sorry, Jacob," he replied, pulling away from Sarah. "I couldn't help myself."
"I don't remember Embry and Leah being that bad," he commented to Mom. "Were we that bad?"
"You're still that bad," Sarah and Luke said in unison. Beth giggled.
Sarah turned back to Harry. "You're not mad at me. Are you?"
"Nah, I know you can handle yourself."
"Now, that sounds like Embry," Dad said, shaking his head. He turned to look at Luke. "Who's patrolling?"
"Max and Lily. Why?"
"Did you tell them that we are expecting company?"
"Yes, of course. I do know what I'm doing."
"Come on, Jake," Mom tugged on his hand. "He was taught by the best. He's doing a great job."
"I know. Sorry, son."
Dad, Mom, and Beth went in a separate car to the teenagers as they took the windy road from La Push to Forks.
Hannah and Luke sat quietly in the back, whispering to each other. They were equally matched in their quiet natures, while Sarah and Luke were the opposite. Their relationship was usually explosive and loud. Apparently, Sarah was a lot like her Aunt Rachel.
The Ford pulled up first at the Cullen's house, and Sarah stepped out the passenger door, only to be nearly bowled over by a tiny vampire.
"Sarah!" Alice said in her high-pitched voice. "It's so good to see you. I can't wait to get planning. Eeck!" She screaked until Sarah placed her hand over her mouth.
"Not now..." she started to say but was interrupted by the sound of Dad's Impala as it rumbled into sight. He probably thought he was really hilarious driving that to meet with the vampires today. Jasper appeared at the front door and walked towards them.
"Bella!" Alice squealed as soon as Mom had opened her door. She pulled her into a similar hug to Sarah's. "It's so good to see you."
"You too, Alice. Jasper," she nodded towards the blonde-haired vampire keeping his distance from the new arrivals.
"Are you here to look at wedding dresses too?" Alice asked excitedly.
There was a moment of silence before Dad exploded.
Literally.
Fragments of his clothing fluttered to the ground, and in his place stood an enormous wolf. It had been four years since he had last phased, and apparently, he'd lost his hold on his wolf today.
The russet-colored wolf barreled towards Harry, who backed away from Sarah. Then, when he was safe from both her and the car, he too phased, and a sandy wolf with spots appeared in his place.
"Cool," Beth said in awe; she had never seen Dad phase.
"Not cool," Mom mumbled. "Excuse me," she said to Alice. "I'll get to you two in a minute."
Sarah swallowed the hard lump in her throat. This was not going as planned.
"Didn't you get my message?" she hissed to Alice while Mom stormed off after the boys. Luke had also phased. However, he had managed to remove his shirt and pants first. Hannah was holding them in her hands. Hopefully, between him and Mom, they could stop Dad from killing Harry.
Alice frowned. She hated working with wolves and their imprints; they always caught her off guard. "You rely too much on your gift," Sarah mumbled as she retrieved Beth from the backseat of the car.
"You didn't tell them?" Alice asked, confused. Sarah shook her head. "But, why?"
Sarah sighed. "Can we go inside? They'll be back soon."
"Of course," Jasper said, gesturing towards the house.
Hannah, Sarah, and Beth walked into the Cullen mansion. The decor was starting to look a bit dated, but the place always smelled clean. The family would drop by on occasion to check on Bella. The pack also used their presence to help some of the boys and a couple of the girls to phase. The older wolves used to think of it as a curse, but the new generation loved it. They grew up hearing all the stories and watched their fathers phase. It was their choice to continue in their footsteps, and all of them had chosen to do so.
"Aunty Alice?" Beth asked once they were inside.
"Yes, honey."
"Will you play Doctor with me?" she asked, producing her doll.
Alice's face lit up. "Give me a second," she said before disappearing out of the room.
They could hear her opening and closing doors and cupboards before she reappeared wearing a white Doctors cape, a pair of black-framed glasses, and a stethoscope. "So, Miss Elizabeth," Alice said with a posh accent. "What seems to be the problem?"
Beth giggled, "Sally has a sore tummy."
Alice and Beth played Doctor for a few minutes while Sarah nervously chewed on her fingernails. Hannah tried to comfort her, but there wasn't much anyone could say at this point. She had made her bed, and now she had to lie in it.
Finally, the front door opened, and Luke and Mom walked in. Hannah stood up and walked to him. He opened his arms for her to step into.
"Sarah, can we speak to you outside?" Mom asked.
Luke gave her a reassuring smile and nodded. He reached out and squeezed her hand when she walked past him.
Sarah was relieved to find Harry in one piece. He turned to face her as she ran down the stairs to him. The nerves and unease in her stomach disappeared when she felt his warm arms around her.
While she hugged him, Sarah noticed some puncture marks on the back of his neck that were rapidly healing. She touched them, and he flinched.
"Dad!" She yelled, horrified.
"Sweetie, you know what they are like when they are wolves," Mom said.
"Actually, it wasn't your Dad," Harry told her.
"Luke?"
"It's okay," Harry told her, stroking her arm to calm her down. "It'll be gone in a few minutes. I deserved it. He's your brother, and I'm his beta, I should have told him."
"I'm gonna kill him," Sarah grumbled. Luke always took her side… until now.
"Sarah, why didn't you tell us you were engaged?" Mom asked. Her face radiated sadness and disappointment.
Sarah looked at the ground. "We would have told you eventually. I was only going to start the planning with Alice before I got the nerve to tell you. It's not like we were going to elope."
"Well, that's what it feels like to us. You know your Aunt Becca did that, and your Father never saw her much after that."
"I'm sorry, Daddy. It's just that you've been so busy with the boys since they phased and with Beth and the garage. There was never time. I just…" Sarah took a deep breath. Harry squeezed her around the waist. "I don't know. I didn't mean to upset you. Either of you. I didn't think you'd approve while we are still so young… I'm sorry."
Dad stepped closer to Sarah and pulled her from her fiancé's arms and into his own. She relaxed into his chest. There was no place like it; it felt like home.
"Oh, Sare-bear, I'm sorry. I didn't know I made you feel that way. I will always make time for you. You are my little girl."
Sarah felt her eyes and nose start to sting with his words and the use of her old nickname. She hadn't heard it in years. "Beth is your little girl," she whispered.
"You hold a special place in my heart that is reserved only for you. You will always be my little girl," he said with a kiss on her head.
"Everyone is little to you. You are practically a giant," she joked. He chuckled and pulled her in tighter.
"I want you to be able to tell me anything."
"So, does that mean you give us your blessing?" She asked, pulling back to look up at him.
"I said tell me anything. I didn't promise to say yes."
Sarah deflated a little but nodded.
"You know I love Harry; he's like a son to me. So I give my blessing for you two to get engaged…"
Sarah squealed and kissed her Dad on the cheek. Then, she pulled back and threw her arms around Harry's neck.
"But…" her Dad continued. "I'd prefer you waited until after you turn eighteen before getting married. Your Mom and I would like you under our roof for just one more year."
Sarah pulled back and looked into Harry's eyes. It made the butterflies in her stomach start flying about at top speed. He pecked her on the lips and looked back at his to-be Father-in-law.
"Thank you," he said, and he put out his hand. Dad shook it firmly, and then, Sarah hugged her Dad again. Next, she hugged her Mom.
"My baby girl's getting married," Mom said with a teary smile while smoothing down Sarah's hair on the side of her face.
"Did I hear someone is officially engaged?" Alice's voice suddenly chirped up from next to them.
Everyone rolled their eyes.
"Yes, Alice," Mom said bluntly. "But, I need to have a word with you first."
Alice's face fell. She didn't like not seeing a conversation before it happened.
"I can't believe you were going to meet with my daughter without telling me!"
"I would never hurt her. You know that. I just wanted to get a jump on the dress. You know the waitlist can be over a year for some designers. There is only so much money can do."
"And, how much of my money are we talking about?" Dad asked.
"Oh, pfft, I'm paying for the dress."
"Alice…" Mom said in her warning tone.
Alice pouted. "I just wanted to help plan the wedding and pay for a few things here and there. I didn't get to help with yours… like you promised."
Sarah smiled. Alice was very good at getting her way. However, she could see how Mom and Alice would clash when they both wanted something.
Bella sighed, "I know, but you were unavailable at the time."
Alice gave her a sad face. It reminded Sarah of the puppy dog eyes that the boys gave her.
"Fine," Bella ground out as Sarah and Alice jumped in excitement. "But... you are both on a tight leash, and I get to be involved."
"Thank you, Mom," Sarah said excitedly as she hugged her again. Alice joined and squished them all together.
"Oh," Alice suddenly said, pulling away. "It's good that you are here today because I've got some good news," she said in a sing-song voice.
"What is it?" Mom asked.
"Edward has met someone..." she said, wiggling her eyebrows. "And, he wants to introduce you to her. He'll be here in a month."
"That's great," Mom said happily. "I'd love to meet her."
"Actually, the whole family will be back for a week or so. If that's okay with you?" she asked Dad.
"Of course," Dad said. He had grown a soft spot towards the Cullens over the years and could rarely say no to them.
"Even Rose?" Bella asked.
"Yep."
"I haven't seen her in fifteen years."
"I know, she's been busy. She can explain when she gets here," she said with a knowing glint in her eyes.
"Come on," Sarah said, tugging on Alice's hand. "Let's get to planning my wedding."
The girls raced off towards the house, leaving Harry to trail after them.
"Oh, Harry?" Bella called out. He turned around. "Have you told your parents yet?"
He guilty and shook his head.
"You'd better tell them quickly. Can't imagine Leah would take too kindly to being told second hand."
"Will do," he said before scurrying into the house.
Jake wound his arms around Bella and pulled her tight against his body. He breathed in her scent before kissing her behind her ear.
"You know, you got married at seventeen."
"Mhmm," he hummed into her skin.
"Do you regret getting married so young?"
He pulled back to look into her chocolate brown eyes. "Never," he said before he kissed her deeply, making her toes curl.
"Mom!" a voice startled them. "Are you coming in?" Sarah called out from the top of the stairs.
"Give me one minute," she called back.
"Make it five," Dad said before he kissed her again, pushing her up against his car.
"Just keep it down," Sarah mumbled before going back inside the Cullen mansion, leaving her parents wrapped up in themselves.
A/N And, that's a wrap. I hope you enjoyed this story as much as I enjoyed writing it. Please let me know what you think.
I am working on the sequel; it will be called Shattered. I had hoped to have the first chapter up today, but I'm not happy with it, and I wanted to get this one completed before the new year.
I also have another story screaming at me to be written. I'm currently plotting it out, and it looks like lots of fun. Think Bella x Veronica Mars (although, not a crossover).
So, keep an eye out for the sequel and my new story over the next few months.
Thanks for journeying with me
