9 years after Season 8 Episode 22.
Flashback
"Allison no!" Robert Chase screams as his ex-wife slams the knife through his bride.
Jessica Adams screams in pain as the blood drenches over her white wedding dress.
Shots fired.
Allison Cameron falls on her knees, dead as a corpse.
Robert rushes over to his fallen bride.
"Jessica! Jessica!" He cries.
"Robert, I love you." Jessica stretches out her bloody hand, grabs Robert by the neck and pulls him in for one last kiss.
Her bloody tongue wraps around his in a tender embrace as it tastes him one last time and then it goes limp.
Jessica's final breath expires in Robert's mouth.
The Sanctuary
"Hello! I am seeking shelter!" She pleads as she struggles up the steps.
"Come on in!" Moira Parker greets the gorgeous pregnant girl, whose wavy dirty blonde locks flow around her emerald blue eyes. She looks very familiar, though Moira has never seen her
Moira steps forward to help. "All are welcome. What's your name?"
"Naomi." The young woman answers.
"Excellent. This way." Moira leads Naomi into the warm room.
Dean Foreman walks across the hallway of his hospital. Despite the bustling halls, it feels so empty without a diagnostics department, without Chase. It's been seven years since Chase left but it feels like yesterday. Chase was his best friend and his longest companion at PPTH.
He hasn't seen Chase since that fateful wedding, where his bride, Adams, was stabbed to death by his ex, Cameron. It was quite the horrific day and Foreman still shudders to think about it.
Now, Foreman is all alone. He has too much money at his disposal, even with the massive amounts that he spent buying his brother Marcus and father Rodney everything they wanted. They're doing well and they see him regularly but other than that, Foreman has no one.
He's considered reaching out to Thirteen but every time he tries to call her, his hand just hovers over the phone. That's it.
Foreman is afraid to call Thirteen. Perhaps he is scared that she won't want anything to do with him, or maybe she cannot take his call because she is already dead.
"Hello Foreman!"
Foreman finds a man sitting in his office chair.
"House!" Foreman exclaims tearfully. "You have returned!"
"Yes!" House nods. "So you got my name tag message. Wilson died after those five months. I got married to Dominika and we have been living with my mother ever since. And I euthanized Thirteen two years ago."
Foreman bows his head in shame. He should have called her.
Australia
"Hello Robert." Laura walks into his luxurious home. Jessica left him quite the inheritance.
"Hey." Robert Chase waves his sister, Laura, inside. "Are Chris and Chris Jr coming?"
"Yes. They will be here in a few minutes." Laura says of her husband and her son.
"It will be great seeing Chris Jr again." Robert smiles at the thought of his little nephew and then the smile fades because he remembers the kid that he never had, thanks to Allison murdering Jessica. Yes, Jessica had been carrying his child for a month at that point. The doctors hadn't been able to save her or it.
He and Jessica never got to find out if it was a boy or a girl.
Laura squeezes her brother's shoulder tightly because she knows what he is going through. The last few years have been hard on him and they have grown closer as a result.
She hadn't known Jessica Adams very well, only met a few days before the wedding. However, it was Jessica who persuaded Robert to invite Laura to the wedding. Laura had been so overcome with guilt and gratitude that she wasn't able to express it too well at the time.
Unfortunately, Laura never had the chance because Jessica was murdered at the wedding.
As Robert flips the frying kangaroo on its side, a tear falls from his eye and sizzles on the grill.
"You hunt kangaroos?" Jessica Adams asks indignantly in a flashback from Season 8 Episode 8. "They're so cute!"
You are cute, Robert Chase replies as he continues trolling "They are also delicious."
Jessica rolls her eyes. "You're screwing with me."
"Totally." Robert replies nonchalantly.
A gust of heat passes through them and the cold lab room becomes too hot for them.
Jessica smells it on Robert's body, his horness, stronger than any cologne and erotically stimulating. After all, he called her hot when she asked if she was weird. When he returned the question, she refused to answer because, well she would have let her guard down with a major gaffe that would have revealed a little too much.
She can tell that he wants to sleep with her and truth be told, she would love to sleep with him.
But then what?
Does she actually like him? Does he even like her? They're flirting right now and it's harmless.
What if went further?
Jessica Adams cries tears of joy through her white veil as she proceeds down the aisle. She is going to be with Robert Chase for the rest of her life!
And that is when Allison Cameron knifes her to death.
Convent
"I am here if you need anything." Moira assures Naomi.
Naomi's insides warm up at the kind words. "I need...I need someone to talk to."
"I am here." Moira takes a seat on the floor next to the pregnant woman.
"Here goes. I was married recently but he died from a brain aneurysm. I found out that I was pregnant after. We were already struggling with money and when he died, that left us with nothing. I am not sure if I want to keep the babies." Naomi begins sobbing.
Moira holds Naomi tightly. "It's okay. I am here. We do have adoption options and I can guide you somewhere."
"Thank you." Naomi hugs Moira and sobs into her sleeve. "I think I need some time to think. I still have a few weeks before I am due."
"Do you have family?" Moira asks.
"No. I was raised by a single mother. My father, I never knew him." Naomi replies. "My mother died a few years ago."
"My parents died when I was young. I took some babysitting jobs to make some money." Moira also opens up. "I have been there."
"And then you became a nun?" Naomi is fascinated but dismayed. Is this her future?
"Longer story." Moira waves it off.
"I want to hear it." Naomi smiles because she really does.
"When I was a babysitter, I got distracted and a little boy died on my watch. I felt guilty and I joined the nunhood but I had doubts. I got sick and I hooked up with a super hot doctor. He cured me but I returned to the nunhood." Moira gives the short version.
"Wow." Naomi is impressed by the nun's fun life. "Quite the story."
"Yeah." Moira blushes as she imagines the sight and feel of Robert's body. She misses it and him.
Naomi feels queasy and Moira catches sight of it. The nun acts quickly and hands her the bannister, where Naomi throws up.
"Morning sickness is really killing me." Naomi growls.
"Have some rest." Moira pats Naomi and leaves the girl alone.
As Moira exits, a sad smile creeps up her face.
This girl, Naomi, is free to pursue whatever future she wants, while she, Moira, is stuck here at the convent.
Her time here has been draining. Fourteen hours of prayer every day, never feeling the touch of another human being, not being with Robert…
Robert!
She could have stayed with him. They might have had a great future together. He saved her life and gave it meaning. Robert was there for her when she had no one to turn to.
Did he really love her, or was it just the sexx and her near death speaking?
For all she knows, he might have found someone else by now. He could have a family.
He might not even be available if she actually left the convent now and went to find him.
Then, her fantasy would be shattered and she would truly have nothing.
Moira purifies her "sinful" thoughts by splashing some "holy" water across her face.
That girl, Naomi, why does she look like Robert? The blonde locks, the emerald blue eyes.
Is Moira seeing things?
The nun enters her isolation room to pray, an act which she knows by now to be futile. Nevertheless, it is the path that she has chosen.
Catch Up
"Wow!" House almost chokes on his chocolate cake.
"Yeah." Foreman just told him the entire story about Chase, Adams and Cameron.
"Where is Chase now?" House's eyes water up with tears.
Foreman hands him a tissue but looks at his former employee/boss in wonder. House has never been this emotional before. He truly did care about Chase and Adams.
"Australia." Foreman replies.
"I will go see him." House says.
Foreman nods but decides to ask a question of his own. "House, how would you like to return as…?"
"As far as the world is concerned, Gregory House died in that fire." House answers firmly. "I am Rutherford Garner Poolhose, husband of Dominika Poolhose and long lost son of Blythe."
"What if I got the legality resolved? I could make a few calls and have your records purged." Foreman has made useful connections over the years.
House shakes his head vigorously. "Foreman, I cannot go back to being a doctor. It nearly destroyed my life. You, Wilson, Chase, Adams, Thirteen, Cameron, Masters, Park, Kutner and Taub were the only good things to come of it."
He leaves out Cuddy.
Foreman bows his head in defeat. "After Chase's tragedy, Taub headed the department for about four years and then Ruby and Rachel died. So Taub retired to become a full time stay at home dad to his kids. Park succeeded Taub but she quit medicine after two years of heading the department. She decided to pursue a voice acting career."
"I see." House makes a mental note to watch out for Park's voice.
"The department has been inactive for a year now and since then, our hospital ranking has plummeted. We are losing donors fast and I am in trouble. If the board doesn't see an improvement, I am screwed. Obviously, I can't ask Adams, Cameron, Kutner, Thirteen, since they are all dead." Foreman laments.
House smirks at Foreman's turmoil. It is always entertaining to see him so flustered. Some things never change.
House drinks his lemonade and the cold triggers a brilliant idea. "Masters!"
Foreman looks up, raises an eyebrow and glares.
"I can tell that you didn't even think about her, so you are surprised but now that you have, the idea intrigues you. Look, hear me out." House asks him. "She was the smartest person to ever be on the team. Sure, she has those moral issues, being too moral, as a matter of fact. That is why she quit but people change. She was the best actual doctor on the team."
As Foreman remains speechless, House slams his fork into the remainder of his cake.
Robert Chase stabs his fork into the kangaroo bit and hands it to his nephew.
"Eat well Chris Jr!" Robert laughs as the infant pinches his nose.
Chris Sr and Laura smile at Robert.
"So Robert." Laura ignores Chris's nudges. "Have you been dating?"
"No." Robert's grip on his fork tightens and Chris looks at him nervously.
"Well, I met these nice women at the…" Laura begins.
"Laura, I appreciate it but I am not interested in dating." Robert cuts her off.
"Robert, it has been seven years. You have to move on! You cannot afford to surf for the rest of your life." Laura knows that he actually can afford that because Jessica left him that enormous inheritance. "You need to find someone, have kids, build a family before it is too late."
"Laura, I am happy." Robert lies through his gritted teeth.
"Let's get the dessert ready." Chris wipes his son, Chris's mouth, as he attempts to cut off the conversation.
"I will get it." Robert walks off before he can lose his temper on her. For seven years, they have treaded delicately and managed to keep things harmonious, a stark contrast with their previously disastrous relationship. He doesn't want to lose that now but she has no right to tell him to date.
The truth is, he doesn't know if he can love again. First, there was Allison, who broke his heart repeatedly and that was before she murdered the love of his life, Jessica.
Robert really thought that he and Jessica Adams would have a long and happy life together. And they would have, if she hadn't been killed.
He's never going to have kids.
It's too late to find someone else.
Honestly, he could have reached out to Mary Knoller, the groundskeeper's wife. They had a nice thing going before he was kicked out of the seminary for doing her.
Did he love Mary?
No.
But she was fun.
However, it has been a while now, so it wouldn't be the same. What if she doesn't like him, or he doesn't like her?
Then there is Moira but she is fully out of the picture. She chose the nunhood over him when he professed his love for her.
Was he not enough for her?
Did she not love him back?
Her leaving him had bothered him for months.
He felt like he should have gone after her when she told him that she was happy to have known him. Letting go of her hand was a mistake.
Robert still wasn't over Moira when Jessica asked him out in Season 8 Episode 17. That was part of the reason why he rejected Jessica then. It was too soon.
He regretted blowing it with Jessica and when he left PPTH in Season 8 Episode 20, he figured that it was over.
Luckily, he had another chance with her after Season 8 Episode 22 and he took it. Being with Jessica was the happiest moment of his life and he had truly loved her. Her pregnancy and their subsequent wedding was everything that he could have ever imagined.
Unfortunately, that ended in tragedy, thanks to Allison.
And now he is here, thinking about Moira, the one who got away.
Master Department
"Foreman!" Martha M. Masters answers the phone.
"How did you know that it was me?" Foreman asks.
"I could hear your breathing." Masters is still a genius.
Foreman considers hanging up. She is still weird and this is creepy.
"Anyway, come to PPTH tomorrow. You are going to be the new head of my Diagnostics Department. You will be the new House." Foreman orders her.
"Wait…!" Masters begins to protest but Foreman hangs up.
Foreman wants her to come back and do a job that she could not handle. There was a reason that she quit. There was a reason why House didn't stop her.
She's missed the team for the past ten years because it was the best time of her life. Masters knows that she is extremely qualified for the position but humanly speaking, she doesn't think that she can handle it. She is no natural liar and she lacks the cold hearted conviction.
Still, it would not hurt to go back tomorrow and talk. Maybe she can see Chase again, get something going. She never got to explore her feelings for him, so that should be fun.
But if Foreman wants her to lead, then that means Chase is gone?
"Chase!" Jessica Adams feels her heart jump inside her chest.
Chase gasps for breath before he grabs her arm gently.
A sharp, hot tingle passes through her body and her legs weaken. She peers into his emerald blue eyes, so full of desperation, uncertainty, hope and love.
"What are you doing here? My flight is…" Adams begins to say.
"Don't go on Doctors Without Borders! I want you to stay. I need you to stay." Chase pleads.
She stayed and that was the beginning of their relationship, which eventually led to a wedding and her death at the hands of his ex wife.
More Bonding
"How do you feel?" Moira checks in Naomi.
Naomi smiles weakly. "Better!"
"I am always here." Moira reminds her.
"I am scared." Naomi admits. "My mother was an incredible single mother. She traveled alone as a pregnant woman to the United States. Had me here and raised me on her own. I do not know if I can do nearly as good of a job. That is why I am unsure of whether to keep my twins."
"But you want to." Moira realizes. "You want to raise them."
"They are my children." Naomi cries. "But I cannot give them the lives that they deserve. And if I adopt them out, there is a good chance that they will have a father."
"Naomi, I can help you. I can raise them with you!" Moira covers her mouth at her outburst.
She just offered to leave the nunhood and help raise the children of some girl that she barely knows.
Is this divine intervention or her own divine stupidity. She cannot have a Robert moment with this girl.
"Yes please!" Naomi is desperate for anything and unable to think clearly at this point.
"Oh God!" Moira whispers but as usual, he doesn't answer her.
Perhaps he enjoys trolling her.
Master House
"Hello Foreman." Masters is super early.
"Hi. Come with me." Foreman directs her.
"How have you been?" Masters tries to make conversation but Foreman is still cold as usual. He still doesn't like her one bit.
"Welcome."
Foreman's chair swivels around in the dark office and reveals a suited man.
"Ahhhh!" Masters screams as she nearly slams into the door.
"Yeah, I am alive!" House states. "It was I who suggested that Foreman hire you."
"Why?" Masters asks, while pinching herself.
"Because you were the best and I never should have let you go." A tear rolls through his eye.
Masters pinches harder. There is no way that this emotional train wreck is really him.
"I know that you thought that I gave you the courage to quit but really, I was the coward for letting you go." House breaks into a sob, leaving Masters standing there, dumbfounded.
"See you soon, Robert." Mary Knoller makes her empty promise.
Robert Chase pecks her with one last kiss.
Robert Chase rubs his eyes. He hasn't had a dream about Mary in a long time. Why now?
"My mother." Naomi starts to tell Moira. "She was the wife of a groundskeeper at an England seminary. Mary Knoller was her name. She shacked up with a young seminarian. They were both kicked out but weeks later, she was pregnant with me."
The scars on my as, you might have noticed.
Moira's brown eyes widen and she takes another good long look at Naomi's blonde locks and emerald blue eyes.
No wonder!
Naomi goes on sadly. "I will probably never meet my father. She told me that his name was Robert Chase but I haven't had any luck finding…"
"Naomi Knoller, I know your father! He was the doctor that I slept with!" Moira shouts.
Naomi's emerald blue eyes burst into waves as she hears the good news.
Water
"Ready?" Moira Parker squeezes Naomi Knoller's hand.
"Ready." Naomi agrees and together, they board the plane.
Foreman sighs as he walks through the halls of his hospital. He gave Moira and Naomi the right directions and soon, Chase will have a family. Foreman's happy for him.
The dean drifts by the Diagnostics Department where Masters MD has taken her mantle. She's flipping through the files, deciding which fellows to hire and which cases to take.
"Hello there!" Gregory House smiles at his old friend.
"Hhh...house!" Robert Chase stammers as tears fill his eyes. "How?"
House responds with a deep hug. "I faked it so that I could be with Wilson for his last five months."
Chase touches firmly to make sure that it is real. "I...I missed you. When I thought that you were dead...I..."
"I know, I never should have let you go." House sobs.
The grilling Australia weather is exhausting and pregnant Naomi Knoller almost collapses in the heat.
"Naomi!" Moira catches her and then notices the puddle beneath her.
"My water!" Naomi screams.
Moira looks around desperately and that is when a car swivels their way.
"Get in!" Laura yells and Chris rushes to help them.
"Thank you. Hospital please!" Moira shouts and they drive off.
Diagnostic
"How was the first day?" Foreman checks on Masters.
Masters nods. "The cases went smoothly."
"I can tell. You solved four in one day." Foreman is impressed.
"Yeah. I will start with the master classes tomorrow." Masters leaves the office, with an immense smile on her face, feeling a sense of purpose and achievement.
"So, next time you are ever in the US, Dominika and I would love to have you." House gives Chase a hug.
"Will be sure to see you!" Chase swallows a few tears. "So glad that you are alive."
"They are beautiful!" Naomi cries as she hold her daughter and her son in her arms.
Moira smiles down at the cute crying babies.
"They look amazing!" Laura muses.
"Thank you for bringing us here." Naomi thanks them.
"Not a problem." Chris answers. "Americans?"
"Yes." Moira is short in her response.
Naomi, who is still coming down from the drugs, slurs. "My mother was English. We came here to find my father, Robert Chase."
"Robert Chase!" Laura exclaims. "He is my brother!"
"What?" Moira yelps.
Family
"Laura, I came as soon as I could. Are you…?" Robert catches his breath.
"Robert, there is someone here for you to see." Laura begins.
Laura grabs one of his hairs and sneaks it into her bag, along with Naomi's hair sample. She has to be sure.
As Laura walks off, Moira approaches Robert carefully. He's even more handsome and breathtaking than the last time that she saw him. She needs to catch her breath.
"Robert!" Moira's eyes water up with tears.
"Moira!" Robert almost falls back. "How?"
"I left the nunhood." Moira answers calmly.
She takes his hand and squeezes it tight, never wanting to let go again.
A shiver enters both of their spines as their energies meet and bond. They know that they are both where they are meant to be.
He starts crying and she wipes his tears away with her hand.
She gets on her tiptoes and bites on his bottom lip. He gives her passage and plunges her tongue up into his throat as he devours her. They press their bodies up against each other and he lifts her up.
Moira lays her hand on his broad chest and relishes the familiar feel before pushing out of the kiss.
"Robert!" Moira breathes in his strong cologne. "There is someone you should meet."
"Who is it?" Robert wonders as he continues squeezing her hand.
"My niece." Laura returns with the positive DNA test. "Your daughter."
"What?" Robert's eyes widen and he falls back and Moira catches him.
"Mary Knoller, she had your baby years ago. That baby, Naomi, showed up to my monestary a few days ago and we got to talking. Laura found us and drove us to the hospital." Moira explains quickly.
"Is she sick?" Robert's heart drops. He had a daughter this whole time and he never knew. And now she is sick. What kind of father is he?
Moira shakes her head.
"Meet your kid and your new grandkids." Laura gestures with a smile.
Robert walks in carefully.
"Hi Dad!" Naomi smiles weakly. "It's nice to meet you."
At the sight of the girl and the two kids in her arms, Robert Chase breaks down crying.
"I am sorry!" He pleads as the tears wet the floor.
Naomi smiles kindly. After putting the babies in their crib, she leans foward and places her hands on her father.
"It's okay. We can start now." Naomi pulls Robert into a tight hug.
Finally, the violent images of a bloody, stabbed Jessica Adams and the ghastly sight of the murderous Allison Cameron leave Robert Chase's mind. He is left with a sense of peace, closure, happiness.
He is going to have a family now! Robert, Moira, Naomi and the two grandkids are going to be a family!
