For the first time in his own life, he was imprisoned. Nobody even thought he could be put in a cage of four walls, sitting in the middle on a small chair, and clasping both of his cuffed hands on the table in front of him. The shackles they put on him were something he hadn't seen before; there was a blue glowing plasma, binding the two metal square bracelets, not to mention also, it was quite heavy. This peculiar cuffs was the second light source, the first one, being the single bulb, hanging far from the ceiling. Speaking of the ceiling, however, the room he was in was as big as he had imagined. The height was comparable to a five-story building, and the area was large enough to accommodate at least a hundred people but he was alone. So alone, in fact, he had wished he went for his "traditional" tech: using animals as batteries, conventional weapons or even so, not seeking such advanced technology that alerted the higher powers. He was referring to the Autobots, specifically the gigantic blue-white-red mech that he introduced himself as "The Duly Appointed Enforcer of the Tyrest Accord" or in short, Ultra Magnus. That mech just came out of nowhere with his own squad of colossal metal giants, while he was infecting the town with his own "Metal Virus", alongside also, newly-made bots that he utilized to increase destruction but only to be blown up to bits by robots that landed on their soil from outer space, easily. He could just rub his own face from top to bottom, and let out a forceful sigh, and shake his head once he looked down. What a lousy day for the obtuse red-donned scientist with blue round glasses, a golden brown mustache on his face, and a long nose, named Dr. Eggman.
He looked up from his sulking when he heard the sliding door in front of him open. The new-comer had horns on his head, two doors hanging on his back as wings, and somewhat a bit shorter than Ultra Magnus. This mysterious figure then emerged from its shadow, as he stepped out from its silhouette form. Now, Eggman could tell he wore black paint on his hood, sticking out on his chest, and a word "police" on both of his doorwings. There was also a colour of red, painted on its horns also. Eggman wasn't too familiar with him, other than Magnus of course. The new-comer just stood there, looking down on the tiny human that was sitting on his little chair. The term "human" was loosely said as they never had witnessed a planet full of sentient anthropomorphic animals - some had powers, others hadn't - only to have Eggman as the one of the ninety-nine percent of the population to be different from the rest. Maybe, the planet they were on was originally populated by Homo Sapiens? Maybe, the mysterious mech could ask where he came from. Or he could just calculate how he can repopulate the planet, the same as his species. Although that wasn't the reason why he was there, he wanted Eggman to react from his inactivity.
Fortunately, he did, he knitted his eyebrows when it felt like a minute had passed, and his ears filled with the sound of his breath and a groan of annoyance. To make it worse, the mech grinned at him, causing his groans to become louder, and his head becoming hot. When enough was enough, the evil scientist smacked his shackled hands on the white round table, giving off a loud sound, and shouted, "Are you trying to annoy me? Mute-bot? Because I have to let you know, I am not the kind of person that you should be messing with!"
"Yet, statistically speaking, your chance of failure is about eighty-five percent, judging by your erratic behavior, lack of strategy, and the failure to comprehend what's a good and bad risk." He smiled. Eggman growled at his "smart-ass" comment. Finally, the mech knelt down; one hand on the ground, and the other on his raised thigh. He first asked generic questions: "How are you?", "Heard any news, lately?", or whatever it was to start up a conversation; Eggman's reply was silence, angry silence. For a minute of speechless communication, he spoke, "You really want to know why we put you in our custody?"
Eggman, once more, was irritated, "Yeah, yeah. Because, I used 'some' of your tech to invent the Metal Virus, and upgrade my bots. It's over and over again you bolted-nutjobs keep telling me about!" He shouted at the end of his sentence that he stood a bit from his chair, only to sit himself down harshly, and dropped his head down to let out a sigh. He didn't know this new guy was such a pain in his head. The scientist continued, and stared at him again, "Who the heck even are you? I thought the 'Duly Appointed-whatever' would come here."
He snickered softly, "He's gone. He's got another person to catch, and I am 'honored' to be in his position." The mech bent down further to get near to Eggman, in which he cowered a bit, and continued, "As your 'officer in charge' ." He smiled, and for a second of inspection, he went back to his original position while keeping his eyes on him. The persecuted scientist frowned at him, in which the mech added one more time, "That 'Metal Virus' of yours ,actually, is ninety-eight point forty-four percent less lethal than the one that was applied to Gorlam Prime. That, my friend, eradicated most of the organics there."
"What are you even trying to do? Are you here to humiliate me? To torture me by reminding my failures? If that's the case, then you'll be the second guy in my list, 'The Most Annoying Person I Have Ever Met', replacing Ultra Magnus." Eggman said with loathe in his tone. The mech was curious about finding out the first one so he asked, and the doctor replied, vexedly, that it was Sonic, the fastest blue-hedgehog on the planet. Then, another inquiry came from him – pretending he hadn't known or met Sonic – about why the certain hedgehog was put at the top of his list. It was because, in Eggman's words, he kept destroying his plans, and due to his high speed running and cunning moves, he was able to dismantle anything that the doctor would throw on him. Just by telling his hatred of Sonic, made him sigh in defeat.
The mech, however, laughed at him, forcing the doctor to scowl under his breath at the infuriating figure. He asked why he was chuckling, and he replied once he shook off his giggling, "You couldn't beat him?" He grinned, and then he bent forward to look up close to Eggman; this time, the doctor stared directly at him without any fear. He said, "What if I told you, I actually 'can' beat him?" This made Eggman's eyes widened, and he leaned forward to listen to him. The mech continued, "All I did is get his speed, the distance from my position to him, the speed of my bullet, and the time for the projectile of my gun to reach him. Then, I calculate them for the approximate distance of where I should land a shot. I also took note that he makes hard turns, and he has superb reflexes. Once I knew my distance, there I took the shot." He grinned. Eggman knew he was just bluffing, his method was the same as his, when creating the code for the robots he'd deploy on the field. He was about to mock in retaliation but he was interrupted, "In which I got him. But of course, I'd not kill anyone to just banter so I put in a little 'error' in my targeting system."
"How? Wait-a-minute!" He pushed himself further to the back of his own seat, "You-you're the one who's called 'Prowl'? That meddling he-hedgehog challenged you?"
"No. It was a bet that Whirl made when he said to him that I could calculate the target's speed, and distance, quicker than a second. The bet was simple, I miss, I lose. When he started running, I had trouble calculating because of how fast he was but there was one mistake he made. Sonic's top speed is a constant seven-hundred-seventy-seven point fifty-four miles per hour, and he pushed himself about an additional fifty-five. Since his speed doesn't change or at least I know it was above seven hundred, I used it to my advantage and fired upon him. Then, I won the bet." He grinned at his own expertise. This shocked Eggman, not because he heard Prowl bragging about his competence but the fact someone other than himself was able to "take down" Sonic without any effort given. All of his evil schemes of getting rid of that blue hedgehog for about the entirety of his life, only to be bested by a mech who did not devote himself to grudges and frustration in beating the enemy. On seeing Eggman's reaction - his shivering, and holding both of his hands on his face, and dropping his head on the table - Prowl grinned; he got him where he wanted.
Then, Eggman whimpered. But not the whimper that he was doing, when he actually got defeated; he was smiling once he had burrowed his face. Definitely, this 'Prowl' guy was bluffing as he thought but at least he could be a good bot. Nobody could beat Sonic, even the best of the bests of his own robots could. Maybe, making a deal with the mech would grant him escape, and Prowl would help the doctor with his "dubious" claim of expertise, in order to defeat Sonic and his friends – he wasn't much of a good guy after all. But since he was an "officer in charge", he had to be genuine at first so once he lifted his head, he wore a sad expression and said in a remorseful tone, "Okay, okay. You win, Prowl. You 'can' beat Sonic. But why 'd you tell me? Is it because you want to torture me with words? Oh! This is police brutality! " And he covered his eyes, and cried. Prowl was not moved by his emotion so when the doctor took a glance at him, he had to further up his game. So while weeping loudly, he continued through his play of sadness, "And-and, please! Could I get a lawyer for this? I'll prove to you that I am 'definitely' innocent! I did not 'kill' anyone! I was just trying to make the world better!" He cried for a minute, uninterrupted. However, when he felt the room to be too silent, he looked up, and saw Prowl still unmoved.
His one brow was raised, "Done playing? Ultra Magnus said, you're a bad actor."
Darn it. He knew his ruse. So he sat properly on his chair, and wiped the fake tears on his eyes. Probably, a bit of a casual conversation could bring him to his level so the doctor asked after a minute of awkward silence had passed, "Ahem. So...this 'Metal Virus' of mine eradicated on what planet? Gore-lam Rhyme?"
"Not 'Metal Virus' and the planet is definitely pronounced as 'Gorlam Prime'. The virus you're talking about came from Jhiaxus, a mad scientist like you, except he has a goal; expanding our race by using that planet as his staging ground for converting organic bodies to mechanical beings like us. Well, it went bad as most of them couldn't handle the change. As for you, " Prowl took out a data pad that had a picture of the schematic of his virus from his sub-space, and put it down on the table for Eggman to see, he continued, "You have the means of 'taming' the virus but as the infection rate exceeds the threshold of control, you can't force them to follow you. What was also embarrassing, you made them mindless; 'Zom-bots' as the natives called it." He grinned once he said something that could "might" trigger him.
"And then, you guys have the antidote. How lucky." Eggman jeered. Hearing it as a compliment, Prowl nodded, and they were silent. One thing was bothering, however, he was compared to a scientist named Jhiaxus, so the doctor spoke once more, "And you know I have a goal Prowl! I will eradicate Sonic and his friends, and take over the world! I will have a robotic empire built on my image! And -"
"If that's what you've been doing, I suggest you stop it." Prowl calmly interrupted him. Eggman was taken aback. His gradual angry manner was enough for the mech to know that he had pulled him to the conversation that he wanted. As offended as he was, Eggman asked him what his goal was, in retaliation with his boastful tone. He snickered softly, and said, "That's why I came here to talk to you. Let's make a deal, you and me."
Eggman did not expect him to make a deal first. Knowing that it would be his means of escape and then backstab him, he knew it was worth it. So, he laughed evilly, and spoke, "You could have just told me earlier!" He chortled, and continued, "Alright! Here's my condition: I do what you want me to do, and I leave this joint. Then, you'll help me beat Sonic the Hedgehog! Deal?"
"No." Prowl glared at him, "You'll 'rule' the planet, and I won't be partaking in your game."
The doctor, however, hummed low and put his finger on his chin, "Too impossible. Nobody will bow down to me. In fact, you're just trying to 'woo' me into this agreement. And, you're just bluffing about you and Sonic, because you actually can't beat him!"
"You want to see it for yourself? Swipe the data pad down in front of you." Eggman was reluctant at first but then, he did what Prowl said. After swiping downward, he saw a crowd of people, surrounding Sonic, as he was preparing to run. He reckoned that he was looking at surveillance footage, judging by the height of the shot. On the top of a building, at a certain distance away from the blue-hedgehog , Prowl was standing beside a blue one-eyed mech that he guessed to be Whirl. Crowds were cheering for Sonic, and Whirl was rubbing his "claws" together, and whispered something to the police mech, in which he grinned in reply. Then, the camera switched, and saw the yellow two-tailed fox, Tails, standing in front of Sonic with his one hand raised up. Speculating at Tail's mouth movement, he was counting down to zero, and once he formed the word "one", Sonic dashed through instantly, creating a gust of wind. He ran as fast as he could, leaving a trail of blue lines. The camera then switched to where Eggman could see the incoming hedgehog. And when Sonic is in Prowl's line of sight, he holstered his black blaster, and aimed...not at his target but farther away. The mech fired his shot, and it landed...to Sonic's feet, sending him flying through the air, and hit buildings around him, then rolling off on the ground, injured. The cheering ceased, and everybody went for him. Eggman, however, was surprised and mentally angry; it was true after all. The camera switched to the two mechs, Prowl gave an open hand to the one-eyed bot, and he resentfully gave the winner a gold-like currency. Then, it ended with a static. "Believe me now?" Prowl gave him a smirk.
Eggman couldn't believe it. He threw the data-pad out from the table, and stomped it with his shackled hands, then shouted while he pointed at him with his one finger, "You can't beat him! Only me! Me! The world's evillest, most cunning and smartest doctor in the whole Mobius can eradicate that darn hedgehog!" He huffed, and continued, "And, are you sure this is edited? Because, I can tell fakery from a mile away!"
"That's too ironic, coming from a 'bogus' scientist." He mocked him, making Eggman frustrated and wanted to step on the round table but then Prowl took out his blaster - the same colour and model from the video - and pointed at him. This gun was so huge for the evil doctor that he could see through the barrel clearly ,and the blue light at the end of the tunnel. He was frozen but not scared as they exchanged harsh looks at each other. Prowl said, "If you want to beat him by yourself so badly, help me then, and I will fulfill your wish."
He groaned, "What if I don't deal with you then?"
"You don't remember? You'll be locked away in a prison complex, far from this planet. And your inmates won't be the same species as yours; you'll meet a Nebulon, a Cybertronian or whoever it will be, but I have to tell you, it won't be a happy sentence. Then, when it will be your turn to be judged, there is a hundred percent probability that you'll be given death. Would you accept that as your legacy? Dr. Robotnik? I'm giving you a chance to be free." Prowl said as he stared at the doctor. Eggman turned his head slowly to his left, avoiding eye contact with him and the barrel. It wasn't worth it to decline then. He explained that he would be receiving that death sentence, because he had used a sample from the Jhiaxus-made virus, and the fact he also utilized Cybertronian sparks for alternative energy for his robots; the greatest violation to creation.
He had no choice so when he stepped down from the table and sat on his seat, Prowl lowered his blaster to continue their talk; the doctor softly groaned, "What do you want me to do then? You want a weapon? I can make you one. A spy or whatever, I don't know, just tell me what you want."
Prowl bowed lower so that he would be near to his face and spoke, "As I mentioned, you used sparks as your alternative energy; I cannot allow newborn casualty for that matter. But when I found your old schematics on how you create energy for your robots, you used animals to power them up. So -"
"W-w-wait. You want me to go back to my old source of energy? That's it? All you have to do is get an animal and then put it in a bot." Eggman articulated.
"I meant," he said sternly, "You create mechs my size, and you'll use 'anthropomorphic animals' as a replacement for sparks. And definitely I won't participate in your demented quest of hunting down Sonic but I would provide you with our tech."
Hearing his terms, however, made Eggman doubtful, "Anthropomorphic...animals? Oh! You mean, apes, monkeys...that's easy. Is that it?" Prowl did not reply to his inquiry but because of his silence, Eggman's eyes slowly opened at the revelation, "No! I won't do that! That's 'way' too far for me! I might have attempted to destroy the world with the Ark Station, and we stopped it, but I would not - absolutely never - do such a thing!"
"For Primus sake!" Prowl yelled, "You had no second thoughts when you're infecting the world with 'your' virus. But when it comes to this, you don't want to be a part of it!? Do you even want to get Sonic? That's your goal right? Your 'only' objective?"
Eggman's reply was lowering his head slowly in silence. When Prowl felt the quietness around him, he stood up and told him that he would give him a minute to think about his decision, and turned his back at him to leave. Eggman, however, forgot something that he wanted to know from him, "Prowl!" Eggman stood up, in which the said mech stopped and looked behind him, he spoke with regret, "The answer that you're gonna give is the answer to my earlier question, 'What's your goal, then?'"
"My goal? Simple," he faced the sliding door, and stepped towards it, "I have a war to win."
The door closed. Eggman was, once again, alone with his thoughts. Not about the decision he was going to make but other things; memories of the past, and predictions of the future. Countless paths he had not walked on, yet fell to a road that he regretted to explore. For the first time in his life, he was both imprisoned and divided. Nobody thought he would work against his own principles. Nobody thought he would be regarded as nothing but a dead legend for the future generations.
In the end, he had decided; he'll win Prowl's war.
Note: About Sonic's speed, that's (I think) close to the one mentioned by a pilot in the episode one of Sonic X. lol XD
