Author's Note :

This is definitely AU. Both Mello and Matt are rebellious orphans who often hang out with naughty kids outside. For the age, I will make Mello 17, Matt 16 and Nathan 15 here. The rest of the kids in the group are either 16 or 17. For the rating, I will say M (Mature), just to be safe.

"So this is the place, huh?" Mello asked Matt whose eyes were glued to the game device since they were walking from the orphanage to an old abandoned mall in their town.

The redhead finally turned off his PSP and looked up to see the tall building before he checked his phone to see the picture his other friend sent to him.

"Yeah. This matched with what Brad sent to me. Ohh I got a message too! The other boys have already arrived, Mel."

"Then let's get moving." The blond proceeded to walk to the front entrance but the doors were locked. "Damn it! The doors are locked. Ask Brad which way we should go."

"I'm on it, Mel. Wait a second." The redhead typed rapidly and drummed his fingers on his phone, waiting for a reply.

"Make it quick." Mello sighed then pulled out a chocolate bar from his jacket pocket, unwrapping it then taking a bite.

"I got their location. This way." Matt started walking to the back of the mall as Mello followed him. As they walked to the darker alley, the blond couldn't help but feel a cold shiver run down his spine. Then he looked at Matt in front of him who was focused on following the route on his phone, the redhead didn't seem affected by the eerie atmosphere surrounding them.

Mello shook his head and put on a tough face. This time he needed to win the bet. This "so called haunted" building shouldn't scare him at all. The blond didn't believe in ghosts anyway.

Finally they arrived in a rooftop parking lot, a group of five kids were already waiting for Matt and Mello.

'Five kids? Which means now there are only seven kids. Aren't we supposed to go in pairs?' The blond thought to himself.

"Hey took you guys' asses so long to come here." The tall brunette boy named Brad greeted both of them.

"Yeah. Your fault for not sending us a fucking specific location." Mello retorted sharply, rolling his eyes. This Brad kid just laughed then wrapped his arm around the blond's shoulder.

"Aww come on. Chill down a bit, Mello. I was just joking." Mello pushed Brad's arm away, then biting his chocolate again.

"Duh. So there are only seven kids? You said that we should go in pair?" The blond raised his eyebrow at him.

"No. It's supposed to be eight boys. My new friend said that he's still on his way." Brad checked his phone.

"So are we all going to wait for him?" Matt asked now while other boys groaned in annoyance.

"Really, again?" A short boy with black hair complained.

"No, don't worry, guys! Since Mello is here. We all can start now." Brad smirked at the blond.

"What do you mean? Wait, are you telling me to wait for that kid?!" Mello argued.

"Well you lost the previous bet, Mello. So yes, you need to wait for your partner. That's the rule, you know that." The tall brunette boy just shrugged his shoulders. Mello didn't say anymore even if he was very annoyed. "Come on, boys. Let's go inside. Ohh Matt, you go with me."

The redhead didn't seem to mind going with whoever but just worried about his blond friend. He looked at Mello with slightly concerned eyes.

"Mello?"

"Just go with him, Matt. I'm fine!" Mello leaned on the wall, still eating his chocolate.

"Alright, dude. Just text me if you get scared later." The redhead chuckled, teasing him.

"Like hell I will!" Then Mello remembered something. "Hey Brad, what the fuck is that kid's name?"

"His name's Nathan." Then all kids started going inside of the mall by the elevator.

It had been half an hour and Mello still waited in the parking lot. All alone. There was nothing keeping him company except the dark surroundings of the spacious parking lot and the sound of crickets echoing in this full moon night.

He started wondering if that kid whose name Nathan was somewhat lost like Mello and Matt were earlier. Brad was an ass. The blond swore he would get back at him after this challenge.

The blond tapped his foot on the ground, he was getting impatient every second. Then he decided to check around for a bit. He found something like the map of the building on the broken bulletin board. Some words and pictures seemed to fade, barely could be read.

"Damn. This place is big." Mello said to himself.

"It is, isn't it?" The sudden voice from behind him made the blond turn around quickly just to find a strange looking boy with pale skin and white hair, dressed in white. All white!

"Arrggggghhhhhhhh!" Mello screamed loudly, falling on his bum. He was extremely scared by the sight in front of him, but the person just stood in front of him, blinking.

"I apologise. I did not mean to scare you." The white haired boy extended his hand to help the blond to get up, but the blond preferred to get up by himself. Still eyeing the short boy suspiciously, but maybe he was just overreacting. Then Mello remembered he was supposed to wait for someone.

"Are you Nathan?"

"Yes, I am. And you must be Mello, correct?" The white haired boy twirled his hair.

"Yeah." The blond sighed in relief.

Both walked towards the elevator in silence. Mello had never met this boy before but Brad said earlier that this Nathan was his new friend. More like a new creepy friend. How in the world did Brad start befriending someone like this?

"I am sorry for making Mello wait so long."

"Yeah. Thanks to you. Now we are very left behind in this creepy place." The blond rolled his eyes, replied sarcastically, pressing the elevator button.

"Hmm. Are you scared, Mello?" The blond suddenly stiffened from the question.

"What? No, I'm not. I just don't like if I lose this challenge because we're the last one who get out of this place." The elevator doors opened, both Mello and Nathan went inside.

"Do not worry. You will not lose, Mello." The elevator started moving.

"How'd you know?" Then the lamps in the elevator flickered on and off until it completely went off. "What the fuck?"

Mello turned on his flashlight, checking if Nathan was still beside him. Thank God. This freak was still here, which meant he was not a ghost.

"It seems the power goes out. We should open these doors, Mello." Then both of them started to open the heavy elevator doors side by side.

"Oh shit. We haven't reached the floor yet." Mello peeked through the crack.

"I think Mello should go first. He is taller than me and can climb up faster."

"Then how about you, kiddo?" The blond put his hands on his waist. As much as this white haired boy creeped him out, he didn't like the thought of leaving him helpless.

"I suppose you can find something to help me climb up outside?" His intense grey eyes bore into blond's blue ones.

"Fine." Mello started climbing up. It was difficult but he managed to get out. Then he looked around, spotting a rope. The blond took it then quickly made his way to the elevator. "Here, grab onto this."

"Okay." Nathan grabbed onto the rope, then Mello pulled it up until he saw the pale hand. He took the boy's hand, almost letting it go because of how cold it felt against his own warm hand but he kept holding it until the white haired boy get out of the elevator.

"Are you sick? Your hand is freaking cold like ice." The blond remarked.

"No. I forgot to bring my jacket and tonight is a very cold night." Actually the blond wanted to disagree but he didn't want to think much about it especially when he was inside of this big abandoned mall with this creepy boy beside him.

"Whatever. Anyway you still haven't answered my question yet." The two boys started wandering around.

"Ahh about you not going to lose? Well rumour has it that whoever comes here will never come out again." The white haired boy said so casually even it caught the blond off guards a bit.

"Haha very funny. If you knew about the rumour then why did you come here?"

"Because I want to find out if it is true or not," the blond's mouth gaped in disbelief ", but it is likely false. Do not worry. Mello and I will get out of here safely."

"I'm not worried! I just want to get out here quicker than that bastard Brad. I'm going to text Matt now." Both stopped in front of a closed shop that used to be a toy store.

Mello had texted Matt several times but the redhead still didn't answer. So the blond decided to call him. Finally, he answered.

"Mello! Damn dude, we've been trying to call you! Where are you?"

"What the fuck, Matt! I'm the one who's been texting you but you didn't answer to any of my texts! I'm inside of the mall on the 8th floor."

"Oh no! You gotta get out of there right now because-" the voice became unclear.

"Shit! No!" Mello cursed to himself, hoping the call could catch up again but the line went dead.

Then he finally noticed that the white haired boy was missing.

"Nathan?"
