Hi all! This is my new story 'Family Burdens'. It main rotates around Naruhina married life and the Hyuga clan. Himawari is going to get a good bit of attention as well. Boruto probably not so much, just little bits and pieces of his life will be reflected. I wanted to bring more attention to the Hyuga clan, because they should have gotten a lot more attention in my opinion. Especially Hinata's role in the clan. I didn't like how Hinata's part in Family Day wasn't animated, so I put a little twist to my own version. A lot of Angst, plot twist and Hinata's childhood coming to light in this story, just fair warning! Hope you guys enjoy the chapter! I should be uploading every Thursday, just because I love that day for some reason.

Today was her birthday, she would be turning 32 years old. She would be celebrating with her two amazing children, possibly their dad, her amazing husband, who was the Hokage, and her closest friends. Today was supposed to be a relaxing and family loving day, because it was her day and she got to decide how she wanted it.

Funny how life had a way of playing tricks on her.

Her lovely, beautiful, fierce sister Hanabi. She thought Hanabi wanted the responsibility, she was a Hyuga through and through. She was a bold fighter, she was dominate, she was what her father always wanted…and she was a sneaky evil little sister.

Well evil was pushing it, going too far even. She loved her sister with everything in her body, so she didn't really believe her sister was evil. She was just…very calculating when she wanted to be. It was really clever, and she had to give it to Hanabi, her younger sister hooked her hook line and sinker. With the whole, 'You need to come back to the compound', 'Leave your husband because he is not doing his duties'. She purposely pushed her buttons to have a fight with her, a declaration fight that meant something to both of them.

She had won, she showed that she dimmed her skills all along while they were young, and she could beat Hanabi if she ever wanted to.

This was being a little rusty over the years, while her sister stayed active. So this showed that she could always beat her sister and that she chose not to. This is what Hanabi was looking for and wanted to clarify. This is why Hanabi requested to speak with her in private at the Hyuga compound before her birthday gathering.

This is where she begged her older sister to give her time to live her life before she took over the Hyuga clan. She asked Hinata to become clan head.

Well, that was a bit of a surprise. What really was the surprise was that in three days Hanabi was supposed to be conducting the ceremony, signing the paperwork and taking the position as the Hyuga clan leader. Surely her father would not be pleased.

Another twist to this, her father was right beside her asking if Hinata could do it too.

They were begging her; this was bazaar and unbelievable because Hyuga's would do no such thing. Her father and sister were asking for her to take over not for just a few months, but a few years. She initially was hesitant, not able to flat out ever tell her maiden family no. She knew she was going to say no when she asked what exactly a few years was.

"Around 3 maybe 5 years."

Her eyes widened and Hinata than wanted to say flat out no, she couldn't do that to her children. Children her sister rushed to pointed out was growing too old for their mother. She frowned at this, got angry even. She held in her frustrations when her aging father took her hand, he took her hand gently guiding her to his office to show her something. He showed her signed and sealed documents, among other paperwork. Obviously from what she had read it changed her mind altogether.

She would take the position; she would fix the mess and she would hopefully return to her normal life with her family and hope that they were able to still love her the same after what she was more than likely going to become and have to do.

So, here she was walking home with hamburgers, because Boruto loved hamburgers. A new art set, because Himawari loved her arts. She planned on holding off telling Naruto until they were in bed because a birthday gathering was not the place to do such a thing. She just had to keep it together until she made it home and the party ended.

"Hinata? Hey Hinata!" Everything sounded fuzzy, but she was able to make out her name being called. She came to an abrupt pause when she heard her name being called and she knew who called her, "Oi, hello Sakura." Her husband's close friend gave her a worried look at seeing Hinata look so blank and empty.

"Well, I am on my way to your house for your birthday gathering silly. Sadara should be there already."

Sakura tried to chuckle a little to lighten up Hinata's spirit, but it wasn't working. Something was really wrong with her. "Hey is everything okay? Naruto didn't do anything did he? I know he can be such a dunce when it comes to managing his schedule."

Somewhere in Hinata's mind frame she did see Naruto's lack of time management for his family as a way of being the reason she was in this mess. If he didn't make it so OBVIOUS that he wasn't present to outsiders, then her sister would have never called her out for a dual and pressed her sensitive buttons. She told herself not to think that way, it wasn't Naruto's fault. The problems going on with the Hyuga's was internal and they would have dragged her in it sooner or later. Hanabi wanting to live her life for a few years was not going to change, and her father needing her more calm political skills was not going to change either. They just used Naruto as bait because they knew she would have done anything to defend his name.

Like the dotting lovestruck wife she was.

After a long pause she finally looked at Sakura who was holding her shoulders, "No, Naruto did nothing wrong." Sakura almost didn't believe her it took her so long to answer, "Are you sure? You can tell me."

Hinata almost paused and looked at the bright haired woman in front of her, no, she couldn't tell Sakura everything. Not how emotionally hurt she was. This was the new role she has taken, that she has to grow accustom to, for her children's sake. "I am sure Sakura, please, let us head to my home. I am sure people are waiting and I want to get these surprises back to the kids."

Hinata walked past Sakura as if Sakura was wasting time, not a smile dotting her face, not a blush in sight. Sakura frowned at this, but aimed to follow her friend, she wasn't acting like her usual self.

When they made it to The Uzumaki resident, Hinata opened the door for Sakura to come in first and soon followed after. Her house was warm, bright and in tip top shape, how she liked it. Hinata hated to admit it, but she was a little of a dictator on how she liked her home. Things had to be put a certain place and a certain way, and the home had to be kept clean and smelling nice.

Hinata looked around as Boruto, Shikadai, Inojin, Sarada, Mitsuki and Chōchō played video games, all somehow playing in a three-man team. She watched as her daughter cheered on her brother. She walked past the adults with a slight head nod and surprised all the early teens with hamburgers.

Boruto paused and looked at his mother in absolute shock, knowing that she was not a fan of him eating unhealthy food. She smiled lovingly down at her son and ruffled his hair, something she hasn't done since he was very small. Of course he would pick up on the energy, he was that kind of kid, but his mother just waved it off. She then turned around and gave Himawari her special gift and her daughter squealed in delight at first, but then gave her mother a concerned look. Hinata in return kissed her daughter on the top of her head and gave her a look that told her not to worry. She urged them to play the game again and before her son turned around to resume she saw a look in his face that told her he would be checking up on her later.

When she returned back to the group of adults she was a little surprised to see a lot of people had arrived, she almost did not want so many people present. In her eyes it wasn't a day of celebration anymore. Sakura was beside her silent husband, Naruto, who was standing beside her husband, Sasuke. The female Uchiha leaned over to whisper heatedly to her husband who now had a worried look on his face, Hinata had to stop the frown that was itching to consume her face, he was not supposed to know about this yet. Her friend was ruining her plan.

"Sakura."

She said her name in a very foreign voice, well foreign for her. It was a voice with authority, demand and dominance. It was a high-class voice, it was a Hyuga's voice and that shocked a lot of the adults there for they could never imagine Hinata ever sounding like that. Hinata ignored the stunned faces, even that of her husband and quickly placed a small smile that was once a blank face. She noted how her son paused for a moment before realizing this was not his place and turned back around to continue his game.

"Please, come help me start the barbeque outside." Sakura still a little caught off guard gave a small nod of her head and headed for the back door to go outside with Hinata. Sasuke raised an eyebrow and looked at Naruto, who was still concerned and ready to follow the two females outside. "I wouldn't do that if I was you." Naruto frowned towards his friend with a questioning look.

"She obviously doesn't want you to know what is going on just yet. It's called, privacy."

Naruto thought about his words for a second before hearing a grunt from his trusted advisor, "I actually agree, something is up with Hinata, but she obviously does not want to talk about it at her birthday gathering."

Naruto bit the inside of his cheek as he attempted to watch his wife out the back window.

Hinata started the barbeque up and was silent towards Sakura at first, "Hinata, look, I didn't mean any harm I just wanted Naruto to be able to help you. Clearly you're upset and we just want to help you."

Hinata continued to remain silent as she pulled the meat she had gathered from inside and started to cook it. Happy with the way she seasoned the meat the night before. Finally after a few minutes when she was sure her meat was cooking properly she turned around, "I was hoping to not have to tell Naruto or anyone at the moment Sakura, but now I see Naruto has his sights focused on if something is bother me. We all know how he gets when he sets his mind on something."

She said this with no smile on her face and stared at the ground at Sakura's feet. She than raised her eyes to look right at Sakura, "I will be becoming the Hyuga clan head."

It was silent for a while, a long dead pause between the two women, "Excuse me?" Sakura was stuck for words for a moment, "How? I thought your sister was next in line."

"Yes, well Hanabi has made an emergency request to go on hiatus for a little while. So she could live outside of the clan life for a few years. She is entitled to live her life, she has been the one helping my aging father with the clan, while I have been off being Mrs. Uzumaki."

"A mother and wife, you were being a mother and a wife. You were living your life Hinata, you've always deserved it. I feel like they're trying to reel you back into that lifestyle that caused you so much stress and anxiety."

"Well I am adult now Sakura, I can endure such things now. I should be able to, if not what kind of growth have I accomplished."

"How long are they asking you to do this? When will Hanabi feel up to leading the clan?"

"Probably by the time Boruto is 18."

"WHAT?! Hinata that is-"

"My family's business, I'm sorry Sakura. This has nothing to do with you, Sasuke or anyone else that isn't in my family."

The pink haired bombshell puffed her cheeks in annoyance, "Speaking like one of them already huh?" Hinata arched her brow at the slight elevation of chakra from Sakura and said nothing more and turned around to finish the meats so she could take them inside.

Sakura, in anger that she didn't want to direct to her quiet friend, stormed off and left her friend and made her way back into the house, her anger evident on her face and having a much harder time then Hinata in masking it. Her husband and the others clearly picking up on the change of behavior.

"Did…did Hinata like upset you?" Ino looked shocked to see that Hinata could get in an argument with anyone. Sakura sat on a bar stool near the kitchen counter and away from their teens, not trusting how nosey and sneaking they were she sent all the children to the backyard with Hinata to give the adults privacy.

Naruto looked out the window again and looked at Hinata, she looked to not even be bothered by anything going on. Smiling at Himawari as she was the first outside and asked her mother if she needed any help.

After a while of watching Hinata, Naruto finally had to question his long-time friend, "What happened Sakura. It's Hinata's birthday, she shouldn't be upset on her day. What did she tell you." Sakura still moody after practically being told off sent Naruto a heated look.

"Ask your wife." She looked over at the door when she saw Hinata coming in with the meats and walked into the kitchen to pull the side dishes she premade out the oven where they were being kept warm. "Surely Hinata has news to tell you Naruto."

Hinata kept her backs to the adults in front of her so they did not see her thin her lips out at Sakura putting her out on the spot, she guessed that was her way at getting back at her.

"Hinata?" Naruto had that concerned voice that usually made her want to give him a big teddy bear hug, but at the moment flashbacks of her dual with Hanabi kept flashing in her head, along with the sharp words her sister said about her husband.

When Hinata turned around she had her signature small smile on her face and walked to the table with sides. "Yes, I do have news." While she wore a smile it did not match the monotone voice she had. Naruto still looked worried at her and she continued to stare through him.

"I will be named the head of the Hyuga clan…in a few days."

The room grew quiet and Naruto was tempted to tell everyone to leave, "A few days, uh why so soon." Shikamaru placed his hand on his good friend shoulder to bring Naruto out of his shock.

"Yes, well Hanabi had requested an emergency meeting between me and my father. She wants to venture off before having the responsibility of the clan and my father felt like that was the best choice. So, I will be taking her place and handling some…internal issues until she gets back."

"Internal…issues? How long?" Naruto's voice was horsed when he spoke and he wanted her to tell him she was just kidding, "How long will Hanabi be taking her leave? I- I didn't hear anything about this."

"Naruto. Not everything within a clan has to be passed by the Hokage." Her own eyes widened at how blunt and rude that sounded and she had to steal herself from retracting what she said, she did rub her face and run her hand through her hair, "So probably about five years or more."

"WHAT?!" Naruto belted out and Sakura was off to the side eating a piece of beef mumbling, 'That's what I said.'

"Nothing will change, Himawari will still be with me for the most part. It will be good for her to learn more than just my clan techniques. She can learn more about my family now. Boruto is with his team now, hardly home. Anyways, this is my birthday, I wish to not talk about this anymore right now. Boruto and his friends will continue to play, and we will all be merry. I will bring them back inside; it is cold out."

Naruto watched as she dismissed the conversation and went to get their children, probably to eat, celebrate and blow out the candles, to be the perfect distraction.

"So, what did she say to you Sakura that got you all upset." Sakura looked at Ino grumpily before paraphrasing what Hinata said, "She basically told me what she told us just now, she than told me to mind my business and this wasn't an Uchiha matter." Ino almost chocked on her iced lemon water at hearing this, "Get the fuck out of here. HINATA? She said that? Wow, Naruto, I never knew Hinata could be such a fire cracker."

Naruto frowned at this, "Everything is always a little different when it comes to Hinata's family. Just never this bad."

Just like Naruto thought, Hinata had avoided the adults like the plague and spent most of her time with the young adults. She even avoided him. As their guest left and the children long forgot about the earlier tension, everyone was cleaned up and in their beds. Naruto offered to help clean up and Hinata smiled her usual small smile and encouraged him to go upstairs and relax.

He bet she was hoping that he would just shower and go to sleep, it wouldn't be something uncommon, his job resulted in him almost always being tired. Tonight though, was his wife's birthday he wanted to stay up with her to spend time together, and besides she had some questions to answer.

He heard Hinata's light footsteps up the stairs, he looked at the clock and took note that she took two and a half hours to clean up downstairs. She never took that long and he concluded that she was trying to avoid him. She paused at their bedroom door, probably sensing that he was still awake, and he would have caught on if she turned back around. So she walked into the bedroom and right into the bathroom to take a shower.

He of course was not liking this Hinata, this wasn't them. They didn't argue, give each other the silent treatment and hold family matters secret from one another. She could try to avoid him all she wanted, but she was going to talk it out with him.

He wasn't a patient man, but he doubted any man would be patient if their wife spent one hour in the shower when she actually took 20-minute showers typically.

There was no amount of shaving or lotion application that took this damn long.

He laid in the bed and looked sleep when she opened the bathroom door, she was fresh from her VERY long shower and slipped her pajamas on in the darkness of their bedroom. She went to lay in their bed beside Naruto's sleeping figure and thought herself to have gotten a silent victory.

"Are you done avoiding me?"

First two chapters in my opinion are the foundation layers, then it gets interesting and I might add a little spice here and there. (Just because I can't help myself) Not sure yet. Well, let me know what you guys think so far! I'm excited for this story!
