Hey guys, I would like to apologize for my lack of work on Re:Starting Life 400 years ago from Zero. Something in my personal life happened and it really shook me... so I just needed to take some time to myself to mentally and emotionally recover.
Anyways, I should get back on Chapter 7 soon... just need to get off my lazy ass and write it... Also, this one-shot has no relation to Re:Start or Journey of Pride (Which I am still planning to do, just gonna get to a stopping point on Re:Start) and is its own story where Subaru and Satella swapped positions, with Subaru being the dreaded Warlock of Envy and destroyed the world instead of Satella. I would also like to sincerely thank Rush Alias and Felt Emerada Lugunica for their help, we've discussed this little swap-up in great detail, and we may one day see a full blown story with Satella as the protagonist.
Disclaimer: I do not own Re:Zero or its Characters.
Darkness. That was what Subaru had been living in for 400 years... 400 years of loneliness. 400 years of Darkness. 400 years without his love.
The only company he had nowadays were the Witches. He was able to visit them occasionally. During the first visit, they were pretty angry with him for pulling such a stunt. Destroying half the World because he was thinking with his rage. Then again, they knew he was hurting. He was beyond furious at the Witch of Vainglory. His Wrath completely took over.
Subaru was able to view the World. It was like watching a TV, and he could view any place in the World he wished, like changing the channel. He could view the World outside of his seal, but interacting was out of the question. It was the a literal "Look but don't touch" situation. So he used it to search for his beloved, and for 400 years... nothing. He found nothing. One time, a hundred years ago, he found a female Half-Elf who looked like a younger version of his beloved, and he believed her to be Reincarnated, but he was proven false. The girl did not possess the same soul.
Even the Warlock of Envy had his limits. He knew he would give up one day, he couldn't go on forever, but he would try to hold out for as long as possible. For Satella.
It was ironic when the Warlock thought about it. There was once a time when he would've done anything to become this powerful. To become so strong that it took Flugel, Reid, and Volcanica combined to beat him, and even then they still couldn't kill him. He gained Power unrivaled and Immortality everlasting.
And he hated every second of it.
The Warlock shook his head to be rid of the thoughts. Besides, It was that time of the month again. The Warlock of Envy stood up from the couch in the replica of his home, inside his Shadow Garden. Subara wanted to see if he could manipulate his world however he wanted to make something more... comfortable for him. His home in Japan and his parents were very dear to his heart, so he made an exact copy of his old home from his memories.
Subaru had long since abandoned his tracksuit. The outfit he now wore was akin to a traveler, or even a Nomad. The Warlock wore an orange scarf that matched the color featured on his track suit, black trousers, black boots with orange highlights, a black shirt that matched the shade of his trousers, a cloak of pure Shadows.
The Witches invited him to their monthly tea party in order to help him deal with his loneliness. The Witches were like a second family to Subaru, and without them, he would've gone insane long ago. Typhon and Daphne saw him as their Awesome big Brother who could take on the World if he wanted. Heh, well that wasn't inaccurate. Subaru barely interacted with Sehkmet, she was the Witch he was most distant from, and they only talked when he was playing with Typhon.
Carmilla was very nervous around him to due to his power, but possessed no lustful desires towards him despite her being the Witch of Lust and him being the only male to be able to interact with her since she gained her Authority. Minerva was very angry with him at first, for causing the Great Cataclysm and hurting and killing so many people, but she eventually let go of it. Subaru was in pain, his Beloved Wife was taken away from him, and in his Wrath, he tore the world apart to flush out Pandora and either force her to give Satella back or make her pay in blood. LOTS of blood.
And yet, this earned him the World's hatred. He didn't care though. Why should he? He was taken from the parents he dearly loved against his will, and he was beaten down time and time again. He no longer had a reason to care for this world that hated him anymore. Heh. It was honestly a miracle he hadn't died yet.
Lastly was Echidna... where should he even begin?... She was obsessed with Subaru. He was the only person to ever truly catch her eye, and the fact that he possessed knowledge of another world that she did not made him more appealing to her. Echidna tried many times to seduce him, to make him love her, to claim her ultimate prize, but he rejected her every time. He had no attraction to her, for she wasn't his Beloved. He admitted Echidna was beautiful, but she was far too manipulative. She only helped those if they had something to offer her in return, and the fact that she left Beatrice alone in the Library for 400 years on a mission she couldn't complete made his blood boil. Echidna was nowhere near as bad as Pandora, but she was far from being on his good side.
The Warlock walked to the front door of his house and opened it. He was welcomed not to the darkness of his Shadow Garden, but to a beautiful, tranquil field. He looked onto a hill with a table, umbrella, and 7 chairs. The Witches were already there, and took notice of the Warlock's arrival. He walked through the doorway and made his way to the group. Typhon jumped up from her seat and ran over to him, he kneeled down right in time as the Witch of Pride crashed into him for a hug, the which he gladly returned.
A small, yet sad smile appeared on Subaru's face. He didn't know if he would ever see his Beloved again, but he would hold onto the hope maybe, just maybe, they could go back to how things used to be.
To regain a life lost to them.
