Mega Man Star Force: The Final Journey
Hey there! Thank you for clicking on this and I hope you have a nice read. However, before I get to the story in itself, I figured I should make a couple notes.
To start off, I'm a 'returning' writer. Well, I've returned quite a while ago, but in a different account. Why am I posting this in a new account rather than just doing it there? Well, the content I'm currently writing doesn't really mesh well with Mega Man. So I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to post there. Figured a fresh account would mean a fresh public more focused on Mega Man. Take that as you will, I'm not sure if this actually makes a difference or not, simply figured it would be best.
Why am I writing this? One word: Nostalgia. I actually started out fanfiction, and as a result, writing in general, with Mega Man Star Force. My favourite Mega Man series. And I'll be honest: my early work was trash. Like, wow, is it bad. And after playing the Mega Man Star Force DX hack, the want to write Star Force, and the will to right some wrongs, this happened. A call back to my beginning, while at the same time finishing this, with one last Star Force fanfic.
As for clarification notes:
I'll be using the English names and terms for the most part. I played the games with them, therefore, it's the ones I know. However, if some sort of Japanese Term is a better fit and not overly important, then I may go with it. An example that come sto mind is the 'Indie Proof'.
New characters will have Japanese names. Now, you may think that contradicts the previous point, but after so many years of writing anime-like stories, I just never really named my characters in English, and got used to using Japanese names in general. I hope this isn't inconvenient.
I'm going to use a few things from the scrapped 'Mega Man Star Force 4' game that never came to light. Not only do I find them interesting ideas, I figured it would be fitting to use them in my last Star Force fic.
And I believe that's everything I had to explain. So, without further ado…
Chapter 01 – Shooting Star:
The night sky full of twinkling distant stars… Quite the view from Vista Point.
For many years, that opinion has never changed from Geo Stelar. Ever since his dad missing, to now a few years after his return, and all the adventures in between. After all, Geo Stelar isn't your ordinary kid from Echo Ridge. Ever since he met his partner, he's been able to 'EM Wave Change'. Geo Stelar and Omega-xis fuse together to become 'Mega Man'. And thanks to that, the world has been saved a couple times now.
The FM-ians and the weapon 'Andromeda'.
The machinations of Dr. Vega and 'Le Mu'.
And the actions of Dealer and the wrath of the 'Crimson Dragon'.
It's been six years since those adventures happened. Geo is now sixteen years old, and in the passing years, nothing as major as those incidents has happened. A few crimes here and there, but nothing to the same degree as those journeys. Of course, he was called in for a few of them, as a pseudo-member of the Satella Police. Ever since the Transcode Project, he's been one of the go-to members to deal with EM Wave related troubles.
"Kid."
"What is it?"
"Yah sure she's gonna show up?"
The teenager let out a sigh before turning to the blue alien with narrow eyes. "Come on, she always shows up."
"But it's been an hour."
"Yeah, but that's not a problem."
"It is to me. I'm getting bored!"
The teenager's eyes threw a friendly glare at the grumpy EM Wave being. "You never change, do you?"
"Heh. I could say the same about you."
"You don't need to amuse me. I'm pretty sure I've changed since I was ten."
Omega-xis hovered closer and poked Geo's cheek with a finger (or maybe claw) of his. "You did get a strong backbone, I'll give you that. Before, you didn't have the guts to deny me something, and now you're the snarky one."
"I'm not that snarky." Geo chuckled. "Though it is fun to speak back at Luna, I'll admit that much."
"Geo!"
"Hm?" Omega-xis turned his head to see who was coming. Geo glanced at his EM Wave partner with a smirk and a confident look.
"See? Told yah."
"Yeah yeah." Omega-xis scoffed, waving a hand before vanishing altogether, stowing away into Geo's personal device.
Geo turned around, seeing the hurried girl same age as him, breathing heavily. Once she was close, she breathed out heavily, hands on her knees as if trying to hold her body up.
"I'm sorry for… taking so long…!"
"It's fine, Sonia, calm down."
"They asked for an encore…"
"I figured." Geo took her arm and helped her straighten up her body, making them look eye to eye.
"Good evening." Geo spoke with a grin.
"R-Right! Good evening, Geo." Sonia gave a smile in return.
"Come on. You'll get to rest on the hill."
"Right."
The Vista Point grassy hill, the spot where Geo would lie down on and stare at the starry sky, Visualizer on or not.
"Did you bring your Visualizer?"
"Right here!" Sonia flashed the pair of pinkish glasses, which had the same properties as his own. After lying down, side by side, the two put their glasses over their eyes and saw the sky with new colours, as all the EM Waves became visible.
It wasn't an unfamiliar sight, not by a long shot. As they've been able to EM Wave Change for about 6 years now, seeing EM Waves, the roads, the beings like Mr. Hertz, it wasn't new. But that stop it from being quite beautiful. Not to mention, it's hard to appreciate something during emergencies, no?
"I never get tired of this view." Sonia let out.
"Well, you only see it once every couple of months."
"The life of an idol is a busy one, you know?" Sonia giggled a little. "Maybe a bit too busy, admittedly…"
"I could tell." Geo chuckled. "But hey, at least you still have enough time to meet up."
"You should be thankful, Geo. I go through a lot of trouble just for these free weekends."
Due to Sonia's busy schedule, only every once in a while would she have a chance to meet up with her friends, namely Geo. They've been doing so for a couple years, their main activity together being star gazing.
"Oh? How much trouble?"
"I'm pretty sure a stapler and a frying pan flew last time I argued with my agent."
"Y-Yikes…" Geo hoped it was just a joke. On top of that, while he understood how a stapler would be involved, how would a frying pan? "It's not that guy, right?"
"Hm? Chrys Golds? No, I haven't so much as seen him in years."
"Good. He was a jerk." Geo thought back to when he first met Sonia. While he was against unnecessary violence, part of him wished he could go back in time to punch the lecherous adult in the face. The man who forced Sonia to sing for his own wants and needs. Mainly money related.
"Let's not think about those things." She recommended with a giggle.
"I would've forgotten about him by now, if not for the fact that we ended up meeting as a result."
Sonia let out another giggle. "I hope that's a positive."
"Was there ever a doubt?"
After some more star gazing, Sonia resumed the conversation. "You just entered high school, right?"
"Yup."
"Is it going well?"
"A bit harder than middle school, but other than that, not really."
"Still in the same class as Luna and the others?"
Geo let out a seemingly annoyed sigh, but his face gave away that he was joking. "I'll never be able to get rid of those satellites." Sonia couldn't help but giggle. "But we actually got a bunch of different classes."
"Hm? How come?"
"Zack is thinking of following computer engineering, so he's more focused on science and mathematics. Bud is deadest on following sports, so he's got a bunch of extra curriculars on top of physical education. And Luna took a bunch of economic classes."
"What about you?"
"Me? The general stuff and astronomy."
"So following your dad's footsteps."
"In a way, yeah. But there are so many fields I can pursue. It's hard to pick just one. All I know if that I want something to do with space. Maybe like Space Exploration."
"Maybe you'll be the first human to go to Jupiter!"
"S-Sonia, that's not a good idea…" He chuckled. "Then again, it's not like it's impossible if I go as Mega Man. I've been to space. And awfully close to a Black Hole."
"Oh yeah, Sirius!" Sonia had nearly forgotten the story. "He was a tough enemy, wasn't he?"
"And a bratty one at that." Geo's eyes narrowed, as if throwing a glare towards the vast depths of space. "He even powered up the Crimson Dragon after his defeat."
"Crazy the amount of things that happen in just one year."
"Yeah… but if it's followed by five years of tranquillity, it's not too bad." Even if part of him found the adventures exciting, if Geo had to choose between another world-threatening adventure or a tranquil world, he would opt for the latter.
As the pair continued talking about miscellaneous events from their youth or the present, their partners slipped away from their housing devices and manifested at a distance, looking over the couple.
"I don't want to come across as a jerk, but I'll admit, my patience has limits."
"Oh, shut it, you mutt." The harp-shaped FM-ian, Lyra, nearly struck the back of Mega's head. "They're so cute together! Root for them, for once."
"Hey, I'm not rooting against them. But I know Geo. And while he certainly isn't the shy kid he was when we first met…" Omega-xis glanced over to his partner with a slight sense of concern.
Geo's hand tried to inch closer to Sonia's.
"Come on… it's just a few centimetres away!" Geo tried to take Sonia's hand, but to no avail. His hand simply shook, unwilling to move. "Not again…" He let out a silent sigh and gave up.
A situation like this was essentially perfect to convey his feelings for Sonia, but whenever the moment were to come, he would shy away.
Did Sonia like him? Well, they were certainly really great friends. On top of that, they were important to each other. After all, they were each other's First Brother. And not counting the interruption caused by a certain purple snake, they also went on their first date ever with each other. Even if it wasn't the best of dates, it was rather important to both of them. And as of late, Geo's feelings for Sonia have changed slightly. Not in a bad way, far from it. But in a way that required him to confess that he wanted to be more than friends.
And be it embarrassment or shyness, something always held him back.
While somewhat frustrating, granted, he still enjoyed these moments with Sonia for what they were: spending time with one of his friends, one he didn't get to see much due to her musical career.
"Hey, see those stars?"
"Hm? Those three lined up?"
"Yeah. You know what those are, right?"
"Orion's belt, right? I'm sure you've told me that before."
"But you know what's cool?"
"What?"
"In the constellation of Orion, all of its stars are blue, except for one. There's a single red star on the 'shoulder' of it. That's Betelgeuse."
"Betelgeuse? That's a funny name."
"Kinda, yeah. But you know what's kinda cool?"
"Tell me."
"In African Mythology, the Betelgeuse star represents a lion that's keeping its eyes on three zebras."
"Wait, three zebras? As in, Orion's belt?"
"Yup!" Geo's lips curled up. "It's kinda cool how different parts of the world see the stars in the sky, you know?"
"It really is." Sonia sat up and looked down to her enthusiastic friend. "What more can you tell me about the Orion constellation?"
"Let's see… Ah! Betelgeuse is the second brightest star in the constellation. As for the African myth, the deity 'Aldebaran' failed to kill the zebras with his arrow, which is Orion's sword in the European perspective. He tried to retrieve it, but couldn't."
"Wait, why not?"
"Because the lion was keeping an eye on the zebras."
Sonia let out another giggle. "I should've expected that."
"Aldebaran was forced to sit there to this day, cold from the nights and suffering from thirst and hunger."
"Awww. Poor him."
"You never know. Maybe he was one of those Gods that was too much of a jerk for his own good. Didn't really look into him."
"Maybe."
Geo glanced over to Sonia, sitting up himself. "Am I boring you?"
The pop idol's face immediately showed confusion. "Hm? What? No, of course not. Why do you ask?"
"How to put it…" He became a little embarrassed. "I know I can get sorta annoying when it comes to stars and space."
"Hey, that's not bad. You're just passionate about something. Even if I'm not as interested in them as you, it's kinda nice to just listen to you talking about it."
"E-Eh? R-Really now?" Geo's face turned a bit red. "I wasn't expecting that."
"I bet you weren't expecting that I too know some stuff about stars!"
"Oh? Like what?"
"Hmm… okay, it's not s impressive as I was making it sound." Her shoulders even slumped. "Everyone knows about the Summer Triangle because of the Tanabata."
"Oh. … Well, why don't you tell me about it."
Sonia's eyes narrowed. "Is it really the same thing if you already know about it?"
"W-Well, let's say I forgot about it. There's only so many things I can remember, you know?"
"Hmmm." Sonia seemed unconvinced but decided to do it anyway. "The Summer Triangle is a trio of stars: Deneb from the Cygnus Constellation, Vega from the Lyra Constellation, and Altair from the Aquilla Constellation. And they're the source for the legend of Orihime and Hikoboshi, Vega and Altair respectively, star crossed deity lovers that can only meet once a year, as a bridge of magpies, Deneb, allows them to reach for each other." Sonia glanced back at Geo. "I didn't say the whole thing since you already know about it."
"Heh, fair."
Sonia looked back up towards the sky. "It's funny."
"What?"
"I actually learned about that story from my Mama."
Geo suddenly froze for a moment, a feeling of sadness creeping over his body. "I see…"
"Bit of a mood killer, huh?"
"What? No, no, I mean… you're free to say that. I'm just not sure how to react."
"Hm. I got it. You don't need to react."
"Huh?, what do you mean?"
Sonia's eyes shut and she began to hum.
"Oh." Geo's body relaxed a little as the singer let out a comforting melody. It wasn't anything amazing, but it didn't need to be. It was simply a nice melody for the two to enjoy.
Her body rocked gently from side to side, arms hugging her knees, as Geo simply looked at her and the night sky, glancing between the two.
"Heh… guess I fell for her hard."
"Yeah, was about to say that." Geo admitted, following suit, standing up and placing his goggles back on his forehead. "What even is the time?" He wondered, prompting Sonia to check it.
"Two in the morning."
"Wow."
"I did get here pretty late." Sonia pointed out, as if to explain how it was that late already.
"Still."
"Well, time to catch a bus!"
"What do you mean, there's no more buses?!"
Geo looked closer at the schedule. "Yeah, looks like the last bus was fifteen minutes ago."
Sonia slumped over, seemingly defeated. "I'm not really in the mood to EM Wave Change… And walking definitely isn't an option."
Geo scratched the back of his head, wondering how to solve the situation. The easiest solution was also the hardest one to suggest. "You could…"
"Hm?"
"Sleep over at my place. Pretty sure I have a spare mattress. Or you can take the bed and I sleep in the living room."
Sonia's eyes narrowed. "I'm not fond of the second option. I don't want to be a bother, you hear?"
"Oh, come on, sleeping on the couch is nothing. Besides, I'm just saying what popped into my head. After looking into my closet, I'm pretty sure we can work something out. So? What do you say?"
"…" Sonia kept her eyes narrow before cracking a smirk, making them soften and show some cheer. "I'm in. But you better not sleep uncomfortably because of me, got it?"
"Wouldn't dream of it."
The two teens made their way to Geo's house, in order to finally rest.
"I actually hope not to sleep on the couch. That thing is a death trap…"
Same time, undisclosed location…
"Heh! Score!" A teen with ruffled up black hair and piercing yellow eyes tapped away at the keys of a laptop. "These are too easy. Practically unprotected networks are basically free candy. Now, lets see what we have here…" He eyes read the lines of text on the screen with unmatchable speed. "Hm? 'Automaton'? The heck? Do they have anything useful? … No… that's odd. This seems quite big for it to be 'nothing'. Hmm… back burner it is. I don't really have the time to waste on this. Let's see…"
But unknown to him, the people he had just hacked were planning for such.
"Alright, we spotted him. Now we can track him wherever he goes."
"How ironic for a hacker to be hacked in turn without his notice."
"That's where cockiness leads you."
"This coming from the cocky one?"
"I'm cocky for a reason."
A deeper voice than the two that dialogued with each other intervened. "Attention. Pawn, Bishop."
"Yes?"
"These are our most concerning targets." Two images appeared on screens, placed behind the owner of the deeper voice.
'Target 01 – Mega Man'
'Target 02 – Rogue'
"You want us to go after the top dogs already?"
"At the very least, gauge them if you can't defeat them. These two are more troublesome than you'd imagine."
The cocky voice snickered. "Gotcha. I'll take on the Mega guy."
"Are you sure, Pawn?"
"Course, Bishop."
"I figured you would prefer facing Rogue. He has quite the raw power."
"Yeah, but the dude's a loner. If I face Mega, his friends may come in for the rescue. The more, the merrier."
"Cocky with a reason, huh?"
"You know it. Imma beat them all up."
The deeper voice let out a sound of satisfaction. "I'll admit, I like your bravado, Pawn. But don't disregard my warning."
"I know, I know. Don't worry, I won't disappoint, King."
And with that, the first chapter is done. I hope you lot enjoyed. Leave and review or send a PM if you'd like to let me know your thoughts. And I hope you look forward for more.
