my first ever story I haven't written since high school and I had a recent rp that made me think I should continue this as a story cause it's be awesome)
Chapter 1: A strange visitor
My name is Laci Nesmith and this is my story. Where does my story start but in my small recluse town of Marden. It's one of those hard to find places unless you actually know where to look. We're so out of the way our neighbor town is basically abandoned, due to a mysterious fire that burned the place down ages ago. People been afraid to go there since.
Anyway I'm 25 years old and it's always been me and my Dad. But due to his passing in an accident thanks to a mountain slide, I've been on my own since. I've been working at the local diner since his passing.
Marden is a homey place especially to visitors. Which isn't very often again cause of how far out we are and we're at the bottom of Hoshi mountain. If I had to say how far off we are.
The closest biggest city or town would be Magnolia which is a week or a week and a half walks north of here. Since no trains run this far south most people don't bother. The second closest town which is Yawen is like 4 days away.
"Damnit I almost over slept!" I throw myself out of my bed and get my waitress uniform on which was a lime green color, very disgusting kind of color if you ask me. I grab my bag get my shoes on and walk out the door. It's still morning and pretty early as I half jog to the restaurant known as Joy's old time eats.
Despite the name it was really good food. The kind most people's grandma made them when they were little. Marden the way it looked was something out of a western. Not much green grew within the town itself while we were surrounded by lush green around the town itself. It was always strange but I never thought about it. I pant finally reaching the front of the restaurant. It was so old timey there was a large deck around the front of it for shade.
"Heyyo kiddo, how you doing?" I hear the voice of an older lady speaking to me. After panting I look up at the older woman with my brown eyes as I pull my thick brown hair into pigtails to keep myself cool during my shift* "Hi Gretchen. The others here already?" Gretchen was in her mid 30s with dirty blonde hair grey eyes and was about 4 inches taller than me.
"Everybody's just now getting in except the twins. They're already in the back getting things heated up." She was smoking a cigarette and was about at the end of it. I walked passed her entering the restaurant. A bell chimed above my head letting others know I arrived as I look around at the very nice looking lay out of the restaurant.
There were only 3 isles for people to sit in that reached to the back of the place by the kitchen. The kitchen was the biggest thing in here, usually housing 4 cooks if we were ever in a big rush. Which we once were when harvest didn't come well and Agnes made her famous gumbo.
Joy and Agnes were by the front waiting for customers to come. I greeted them grabbing my apron from behind the counter they were standing by. "Good morning ladies. How are you two?" They both smiles at me as I tied my apron to my waist with my note pad and pen in the left pocket of said apron. Agnes spoke first.
"Doing just fine girly. How'd you sleep?" Agnes was closer to my age but she was still older than me, being about 23, slightly shorter than me by 5 inches and had short red hair. Her honey brown eyes stared at me through her thin framed blue glasses.
"This is gonna be a good day I can feel it." Joy, who's the owner was only in her 40's. She was spunky with black hair tied behind her in a braid with hints of grey on her head and in her roots with nice oranges eyes. She never told me if she wore contacts or if that was her eye color.
"Let's get started." I say that as I walk to the back where my tables were as customers started coming in.
I occasionally checked on Derek and Davis who were 25 year old twins who are amazing cooks. They told me they took up cooking after their mom and grandma and been cooking since they were 13. Pretty impressive if I say so.
30 minutes in and about 5 people were already served. Since I didn't have any at my tables I assisted the twins in the kitchen with some of my own cooking skills. Dad taught me everything since he was an only parent.
"Laci! You got a customer!" Soon after helping in the kitchen, Joy yells out from the front. After taking off my hair net and washing my hands, I came out to greet my customer as he and his pet took a seat in a booth.
I take a deep breath smile and look down at the two. "How can I help you two today?" They both had their faces hidden in the menus. I could tell the pet was a blue cat or animal judging by the long tail. The person who I assumed was a dude wore a one sleeve top that was zipped up and white baggy pants with sandals. I couldn't see him from the chest up.
"Hmm... can we get the biggest thing on the menu for breakfast?" The cat asked. "I don't see why not. Is that what your friend wants to?" I looked at the person puzzled since I figured he would respond.
Then it hit me. The... Cat... talked... it took every ounce of raw strength in my body not to faint. Especially when the cat put the menu down to reveal blue fur big eyes and a big smile on his face.
"Uh...did you just talk?" My eyes could've been bulging out of my head right now and he still would've been the oddest thing out of the two of us at the moment.
"Aye!" And with that I had to sit before I lost my mind. His partner finally put down the menu and spoke up. "I'll have the same as him except knowing him he'll have it with fish rather than bacon or anything." He blinked at me noticing my uneasiness and said. "You look sick... this place didn't give you food poisoning did it??" I nearly died when he said those two words. Derek obviously heard him first and yelled from the kitchen.
"You a health inspector or something!?" I rush to the window. "Derek! Derek, he's just a customer he didn't mean that. I'll take care of it." I was sweating bullets. Derek and Davis prided themselves on their cooking and anyone who dare say food poisoning or anything bad about their cooking they'd be pissed.
"I'll leave it to you Laci..." He grumbled going back to cooking as I rush back to their table slamming my hand on the table. "First of all I'm not sick. Second I was freaking out cause your CAT talked!" I hissed the last part through my teeth completely in shock to even hear those two works pass my teeth.
"Ooh! That's normal. Sorry if he scared you." I finally got a better look at the guy. He had onyx eyes and lush pink hair that was pretty shaggy it apparently was down to his shoulder and it didn't seem to be a natural look. He looked like a homeless guy.
"I'll get your order put in right now." I sigh and let the talking cat thing go as I take their order to Derek. As I walk back I could see the two looking at each other then looking at me.
"There a problem you two?" I had my hands on my hips looking at the two. They looked at each other again then up at me once more. "Nothing," the pink haired male started. "You look like someone we know."
I blinked and laughed. Not many people said that to me before. I decided to sit at the booth with them since after they're arrival the customer intake slowed. "So you two must be visitors. Welcome to Marden." I brush the top of my dress trying to keep it flat over my huge bust which showed too much in the outfit.
I asked them what they wanted to drink and fetched one a glass of milk and a mug of beer which we don't normal sell in the morning. I give them their drinks as I sit back down and chat up with them while their meals were being made. "So Magnolia. Sounds like a beautiful place. You guys traveling?" The cat who I learned was name Happy and Natsu is the name of his partner.
I look them over noticing a mark on his shoulder. "We've been on the road for a while now.. about... 3 months?" I nod. The pink haired male scratched his head his hair pretty thick mangled and I could kinda tell they had a weird woodsy smell. They must've had trouble bathing the last 4 days assuming they passed through Yawen.
"So what's that mark on your arm?" I pointed to his arm. He looked at me funny. "You guys down here don't know about wizards?" I blink and smiled. "We do but wizards don't come down here. There are mages here in Marden. But there's not many of us who actually have strong enough skills to even leave this place to make it to a guild."
The only person I think could've and would've been a great wizard was my father Jackson Nesmith. He had metal magic. Sadly being 19 I haven't been so lucky to develop any magic. Dad always told me magic is in your blood sweat and tears and that one day it would appear. Turns out he might've been wrong.
"You have any magic?" Happy looks at me as I heard Derek yelling out. "Foods up Laci." "Thanks Derek come out here and see these guys. They're wizards from Magnolia."
Derek looked dumbstruck as he stepped out of the kitchen and nearly screamed. "Great gods of Fiore!"
I rushed to put the order on the table covering my ears slightly with my shoulders. "Why are you yelling!?"
Derek grabbed me pulled me back by him and looked me dead in the eyes. "Laci, you've been talking this whole time to a famous wizard! That's the Salamander of Fairy Tail! Natsu Dragneel!"
My brain was slow to process. So all I could utter was one word as I looked back at the two now stuffing their faces with the plates of breakfast food. "What...?"
