The current location of the Crystal Gems' camp had drawn to a lull, as many of the gems in attendance returned to their quarters for some much needed, and much deserved rest, save for two, Garnet and Pearl, the latter of whom was looking at a variety of screens with maps, with the former trying her best to stay awake.
"I don't know Garnet, the last attack was too close to our camp, who knows when Yellow Diamond's forces will discover us, forcing us to make a quick getaway, what does your future vision tell you? Anything at all?"
Garnet cracked a sly smile as she answered, "I can see an imminent distraction."
Before Pearl could respond she felt a warmth cover her eyes, "Pearl~ Guess Who!"
"Rose," Pearl said softly with a hint of exasperation, "I'm trying to talk strategy with Garnet, I'm really worried about how the war is going, and I want to make sure a quartz battalion doesn't get the drop on us."
Rose moved her hands from Pearl's eyes to her shoulders and pouted before coming up with an idea, "Pearl, I request your assistance in my tent, I need to do some...moving."
Pearl turned to look at her as Garnet gave her a thumbs up, "um...I suppose that shouldn't belong, I'll be right back Garnet."
Rose giddily danced in place before leading Pearl towards her tent.
Inside Rose's tent Pearl saw not much else besides a few discarded tablets as well as a bed of flowers arranged near the back of the tent, "Now what was it you needed me to move Rose?" Pearl continued to look around as Rose closed the flaps of the tent forcefully as Pearl turned, "Rose?"
Rose jumped towards Pearl, kissing her and knocking the both of them to the flowerbed in the tent, Pearl's cheeks a bright blue, caught completely off guard. Rose's hand preventing Pearl from hitting the ground too hard.
Pearl moved her lips away from Rose's, who erupted into a giggling fit before kissing Pearl's cheeks and blowing a raspberry on the side of Pearl's neck, Pearl failed to stifle a laugh; "Rose!," Pearl tried to speak through her laughter, "I thought we were supposed to be working!."
Rose stopped before looking down and Pearl, stroking her cheek, "Pearl, you've been working nonstop since our last battle," Rose turned over to Pearl, who was lying on her back, twiddling her thumbs. "Don't you ever feel the need to take a break?
"How can I stop when Yellow Diamond could be days away from finding out our camping spot?" Pearl absentmindedly tangled her slender fingers in Rose's curls, "I just want to be prepared."
"Mmmh, I know," Rose leaned her head in, kissing Pearl's cheek and then her lips, "but won't you keep me company, only for a while?"
"I don't know Rose," Pearl nestled closer, "what about the war?"
Rose stroked Pearl's cheek, the other gem slightly nodding off as she leaned into the touch; "The war will still be there in the morning, I promise, the world won't end if you stop working just for one night...if you won't do it for yourself, do it for me? Please?"
Pearl let out a sigh, "Alright, but only for five minutes, there's still a lot that needs doing."
Rose kissed Pearl's gem, lingering for a moment, "I promise, we'll get everything done, but for now, let's rest." The two shared a long kiss before Rose took Pearl's hand and turned themselves over, Pearl holding Rose close as she sunk into her curls. Pearl held Rose's hand tight as the larger gem's warmth and the softness of the flower bed below allowed her to drift off in a peaceful slumber.
The next morning, the light of the sun leaked into the tent through the flaps, Garnet slowly approached Rose's tent, opening it slightly as she called out for her. She was met with Pearl, still sleeping in Rose's lap, snoring softly. Rose looked down on Pearl with admiration as she ran her fingers through the sleeping gem's hair, as well as taking great joy in placing small flowers on Pearl.
Rose, seeing Garnet enter, put a finger to her mouth and shushed, "She needs this, I'll be out once she wakes, and not a second sooner. Oh, and Garnet! Keep the others quiet would you, I don't want her to be disturbed."
Garnet adjusted her glasses and smiled, glad that Pearl was finally getting her rest. Garnet nodded and slowly left the tent, leaving Pearl to her slumber.
