Jay was woken up by the rising light streaming in from beneath the blind. He stirred and tried to keep his eyes clamped shut. He didn't need to be awake, not this early, Intelligence had a late start this morning. But being awake at the crack of dawn was a nasty habit he was trying to break - on the days he didn't need to be at work at least.
He rolled over so he was facing away from the window and reached his hand out, expecting to have it rest around Hailey's waist to bring her in closer but instead his hand falls to land on the still slightly warm mattress. His eyes open quickly and he sits up, looking around the room. That's when he notices the bedroom door leading straight out into the living room open ajar.
Despite the fact all he wanted to do was go back to sleep, the curiosity got the better of him. He removed himself from under the warmth of the sheet and he trudged toward the door. Peeking through the crack, he sees Hailey with her back turned, reaching into one of the overhead cabinets. He smiles because even though he can't see, he knows she's standing on her toes.
Jay pulled the door open and walked out, the sound of his footsteps being enough to make Hailey turn around to see what the noise was. She grins the moment her bright eyes meet his.
"What are you doing up?" Jay asks as he continues to make his way into the kitchenette of her apartment.
She shrugs, quickly turning back over her shoulder to grab two mugs, then shuts the cabinet and steps to the small island. "Couldn't sleep, thought I'd surprise you with coffee." She replies, inserting the cup into the machine.
Jay rounds the corner and instantly spots the shirt she was wearing to cover up the fact she was still only in her underwear. The shirt was a unbuttoned plain button-down, something he was used to seeing her in, but this one seemed to come down to to her thighs, and the sleeves were a little too long. He furrows his eyebrows at her. "Is that my shirt?"
Hailey doesn't even try and come up with a lie to cover it up, instead she just proudly grins and nods her head. "It's my shirt now."
He tries to hide the smile growing on his face because he had never seen her wear one of his shirts before. They had only been dating a few weeks but had never had a slow morning before, usually it was a quick change and out the door for a new case. It hugged her small frame, and he felt his heart flutter.
"But that's my shirt." He goes on.
Hailey looks up from the coffee machine and over her shoulder at him, hooking an eyebrow up. "You mean our shirt?"
This time Jay can't hide the grin as his heart does a second jump, and he takes the two steps it was to her and presses his chest to her back, instantly wrapping his arms around her waist like he'd prefer to have done in bed. He leans down and kisses her cheek, smiling when she turns her head to the side with him. "Good morning." He mumbles into her skin.
"You too." Hailey responds.
Jay moves his lips down Hailey's neck and the smile becomes a playful smirk as he hears a soft moan hum from her lips when he kisses underneath her ear. He pulls away an inch, staying close enough that she'd be able to feel his breath tickle at her ear. "It looks way better on you anyway." He whispers, his voice hoarse.
He continues to own the smirk when he watches the profile of her face switch, to which Hailey abandoned the mug on the side and spins on her heels so she was facing him, before pushing her lips against his fervidly, and the idea of coffee and the shirt were simultaneously dropped as Jay lowers his hands to pick her up into his arms to carry her back off into the bedroom.
