(This Prologue will start where Halloween (1978) left off) Enjoy!
Haddonfield, Illinois, October 31, 1978.
"The Boogeyman," Laurie Strode croaked out while on the floor with her back against the wall. "It was the Boogeyman."
Dr. Samuel Loomis lowered his gun and looked at the girl. "As a matter of fact—it was."
The doctor went back near the window to look again at the body of the monster he shot six times—but he his eyes widened in shock—Michael Myers's body was nowhere to be seen.
He took a step back. Laurie saw his shocked look and could immediately assumed the worst—the bogeyman was still alive.
The traumatized girl cradled her face in her hands and cried even more.
The calm silence of Halloween night was interrupted with the sirens of police cars and ambulances making their way to the Wallace Residence.
Dozens of citizens were crowding in on the scene. Parents with their children still dressed in their costumes and holding onto to their bags full of candy—were waiting to know what had happened during their time of trick-or-treating.
One ambulance and police cruiser had been at the scene first, paramedics were bandaging Laurie, covering the cuts she had received on her shoulder and her hand. There was still the hurt ankle she had received when she fell on the stairs, but it could wait. In the ambulance with her were Tommy Doyle and Lindsey Wallace, who were hugging each other while having a blanket over their shoulders.
For a while, Lindsey had been crying on Tommy's shoulder when one of the policemen had said they had found her dog dead in her backyard. No doubt that Lester was killed by the boogeyman.
Dr. Loomis was watching them, while having an adamant look on his face.
The police car finally parked and the first to come out was Sheriff Brackett, with a look of great worry on his face. He saw Laurie sitting on the ambulance and dashed to her side.
"Laurie! Oh, Laurie!"
"Sheriff…" Laurie barely looked at her best friend's father in the eyes.
"Oh, thank goodness you are alive! Where's Annie? She with you, right?"
Laurie's face scrunched up red and her eyes became teary. She could not bear to tell the Sheriff of his daughter's fate.
Loomis came up to Brackett's side. "Sheriff…"
Brackett turned to face the doctor. "You tell me what the hell is going on? Where is my daughter?"
Loomis was about to raise his voice, but before he could there was a cry from the crowd which diverted the men's attention to the entrance of the Wallace House.
Parents tried to cover their kid's faces away from the sight of paramedics bringing out three bodies covered in white sheets on stretchers. They stopped when Loomis and Brackett approached.
He walked slowly to one of the bodies. He couldn't believe it. He didn't want to believe it. A paramedic pulled back the sheet to expose the face of one of the victims to the Sheriff—it was Annie—his daughter.
This was it. When his deputy, Graham, had told him that Laurie was attacked—he remembered that Annie was supposed to be babysitting as well just across the street from where Laurie was babysitting at the Doyle's. Why didn't Graham mention Annie also? Upon seeing Laurie, he felt a small bit of hope that Annie was alright also. Until…
Annie was lying dead on stretcher before him. He had last seen his daughter just earlier so bright and happy—now the face before him looked cold and motionless, and what was worse—her eyes were still open. After a moment, the Sheriff moved his hand over her eyelids to close them. He pulled back the sheet to cover her face once more and let paramedics to continue to the ambulance.
A part of him expected him to wail in the air or sob to the ground, but the Sheriff stood there—almost feeling numb.
"I have to go and tell my wife… before somebody else does."
"Yeah, Leigh," Deputy Graham said, while still looking teary-eyed himself. "Go home."
Some of the folks in the crowd who knew Annie Brackett started crying and leaned on each other for comfort. But her father's next reaction was different as he gave a death glare towards Dr. Loomis.
"Damn you."
"Sheriff Brackett, I'm so-."
"YOU LET HIM OUT!" With that an angered and grief-stricken Sheriff Brackett left the scene.
Loomis looked down to the ground in shame. Deputy Meeker looked at him reassuringly and said. "He has to figure this out. We'll find the son of a *itch who did this."
"You don't even know where to start. He could be anywhere."
They looked to see Laurie stepping away from the ambulance with Tommy and Lindsey as the paramedics had to make room for the three bodies to fit in.
"What happened to her?"
"What you need to know about Miss Strode is that she fought for her life against Myers. If I hadn't been there at the moment to shoot him… I can't bear to think otherwise."
"You don't think Myers will come back for her?"
"You will have to assume the worst from Michael Myers. Until he is dead, everyone else living and breathing in Haddonfield tonight—especially Miss Strode—are in grave danger no matter what."
"I called her parents, they are on their way back to Haddonfield, but not until tomorrow morning at best."
"I doubt her home is the safest place to be."
"No, but she is still injured, and she needs to get to the hospital."
"I agree, but that does not make it all the more safe."
The men walked down towards Laurie and the kids; they were also approached by another deputy.
"Hawkins, will you escort Miss Strode to Haddonfield Memorial?" Meeker said.
"Yes, sir. You can count on it." Hawkins answered without doubt.
"What?" Tommy said. "You're taking Laurie away?"
"No, Laurie." Lindsey cried. "Stay here with us!"
"Kids," Meeker said. "I would let her stay with you two until your parents come back, but Laurie requires medical attention."
"I'm alright, Deputy." Laurie said. "I'm okay. I can stay. I don't want to be alone-."
"You won't be alone, Miss Strode." Loomis said. "I will make sure you will get to Haddonfield Memorial safe."
Laurie looked at the doctor. After tonight she barely had faith the police would be enough to protect her. But after seeing Dr. Loomis shoot Myers six times, she knew he was some she could count on.
"Okay. I'll go." She nodded.
"Don't go, Laurie!" Tommy pleaded.
"It's okay, Tommy. I just need to go to the hospital so I can heal. I'll be back."
"You promise?"
Laurie smiled for the first time in a long while. "I promise."
The children hugged Laurie one last time, before she walked away with Loomis and Hawkins towards the police car. Once they got in the car with Hawkins driving with Loomis on the other side and Laurie in the backseat. Meeker and the kids waved at them.
Hawkins hit the gas, and the three of them left the Wallace Residence towards Haddonfield Memorial.
"I'm sorry about what Brackett said to you." Hawkins said to Loomis while driving. "He's angry. He doesn't know who to blame."
"It's my fault." Laurie croaked. That caught Hawkins and Loomis's attention.
"I let Annie go back to the house. I could have made her stay, but I let her go. All because of her promising to sort it out with a boy. So stupid…"
"Laurie," Loomis said. "Michael Myers is the one to blame. You could not have foreseen what would have happened. Hell, if I would have had my way many years ago, I would have put him-."
"THERE!" Laurie cried out as she pointed down the road.
Loomis and Hawkins brought their attention back on the road. With the headlights, they could see a tall figure in black, staggering from the street towards the sidewalk. The figure seemed to be clutching his chest. The lights gleamed on his face and brightened the white features of his mask.
It was Michael Myers—the Boogeyman.
Hawkins felt stupefied at the sight of the murderer. "Oh my g-."
"Run him over!" Loomis yelled. There was no time to lose.
"What?!"
"HIT HIM WITH THE CAR, DAMN IT!" Loomis yelled even harder.
Hawkins understood. He held the steering wheel tight and stepped on the gas at full speed.
Michael tilted his head on his left and noticed the police car driving full speed towards him. He was almost like a deer reacting to headlights but then…
CRASH!
Michael's contact with the speeding car sent him off rolling against the street until he lay motionless on the ground.
Hawkins stopped the car from running, and he, Loomis, and Laurie paused at the sight of Myers on the ground.
"I did it." Hawkins breathed out. "It's done. He's dead."
"No! He isn't!" Loomis said as he took out his already loaded revolver.
"What are you doing?! He's already dead!"
"I shot him six times! Six times in where the heart should be! For all I know he doesn't have one!"
Loomis got out of the car and walked towards Myers.
Hawkins quickly got out the car and ran towards the doctor.
"Wait for Meeker and the others-!"
"NO! I am going to finish this!"
Laurie knew Loomis was right. The man in the mask was beyond dangerous and it was best that he died before he hurt anyone else. Hawkins on the other hand didn't know what the murderer was capable of. From the back seat, she noticed at the end of the street more lights coming in. Cars—no—more like white vans moving onto to their spot. Laurie started to get out of the car.
Loomis aimed his gun at Michael's head and put his finger on the trigger—but Hawkins grabbed hold of Loomis and turned him the other way, where the doctor fired the gun at empty air.
"NO! Let go of me! I have to do this!"
While Loomis and Hawkins struggled, the vans stopped before the scene. The van had initials in black: HNL. Out came men in suits approaching Myers on the ground.
Some of them came over to Hawkins aid in subduing Loomis. "Don't worry Dr. Loomis, we'll take it from here."
"No! No! You don't understand! He needs to die! It needs to die!" Loomis yelled as his gun was taken from him.
One of the men in suits, his brown hair was in the middle of turning white, he inspected over Michael's unconscious form. He took out an injection needled and injected it in Michael's neck. Satisfied, he motioned his men to pick Michael Myers up.
The man went to face Loomis who was still struggling with Hawkins. Loomis stopped struggling when he saw the man's face.
"Brenner?"
"Hello, Sam." Martin Brenner gave a faint smile to the doctor.
"What the hell are you doing?!"
"Doing? I am here to uphold the law. Four people have died today, and I am here to make sure it stops."
"No." Martin turned to see Laurie walking despite her ankle. "No!" The woman started to dart to where the men were carrying Myers, but Brenner grabbed her by the arms. "NO! NO! HE CAN'T! NO!"
"Ma'am," Brenner tried to calm the struggling woman. "You are in shock." Laurie tried to squirm. "You don't need to worry anymore. He will stand trial. No one else will get hurt. It's over."
"IT'S NOT OVER UNTIL HE'S DEAD! UNTIL HE'S DEAD! UNTIL HE BURNS IN HELL!" Laurie's screaming was starting to annoy Brenner. He looked at his men.
"Subdue her," He looked back at Hawkins who was still struggling with Loomis alone. "Subdue them both." With that, Martin let go of Laurie and two men grabbed her to hold her in place. Two more men came over to Officer Hawkins's aid to hold Sam Loomis in place and took away his revolver.
With the two people secure from doing any interference, Martin Brenner walked to the front of the van where the unconscious Michael Myers was to be taken away in.
"YOU FOOLS!" Loomis cried. "YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE HANDLING!"
Loomis's anguish was shared by Laurie, who still cried out while being held in place by two men. "NO! LET HIM BURN! LET HIM BURN!"
