"Nick, do you think about the future?" Andy asked her boyfriend. They had been living together for about a year since Nick had moved into Andy's flat and it had been the best year of Andy's life. Nick made her so happy, he was always open and honest about his feelings and she loved him so much. It was one of those rare evenings when they were both at home.
Nick chuckled and asked, "Is this a trick question?" He looked at Andy and smirked, but she glared at him, wanting him to be serious, so he kissed her temple and he replied, "Yes, I do. I think about marrying you because you're the most amazing woman I've ever known and having kids with you because you'd be an amazing mother."
Smiling, Andy whispered, "That was the right answer." She kissed him and their conversation was soon forgotten. Before Andy had been with Nick, she had never seriously thought about marriage, mostly because her own mother had left. She had thought about it a little when she'd been with Sam. She had loved him, but he hadn't been able to express himself and he had broken her heart. Nick's love for her and his desire to have a family because he lost his parents when he was so young felt perfect to Andy.
At 15-Division, Nick sought out the help of his friend, Chloe Price, to help him to find a engagement ring for Andy and he told her to keep it confidential, even from Dove, although he knew that he was virtually impossible. He also asked Tracey, considering she was Andy's best friend and she was ecstatic with excitement of the prospect and started to give him ideas straight away, but Nick assured her he already had a plan.
The next time Tracey saw Andy, she couldn't help herself and she asked, with a sly grin on her face, "So, how are things with you and Nick?"
Not thinking about her friend's question as she changed into her uniform, Andy nodded and smiled as she replied, "Oh, Trace! Things are so great, you have no idea. When I'm with him- it just fits together. It feels so right when I'm with him."
Tracey bit her lip and said nothing and she was saved by the arrival of Marlo, Sam's ex-girlfriend, into the locker room. Marlow had very recently given birth to her and Sam's baby girl, Mya, and she and Andy maintained a friendship of sorts. Tracey saw how her best friend's body language changed slightly when Marlow was there, but Andy was nice and polite, asking about the baby and Marlow was more than happy to talk about her baby girl. She and Sam shared custody, because they had broken up after Sam had been shot, which had surprised everyone because they had assumed, after Marlow told Sam she was pregnant, that Sam would have married her, but that had not been in the case.
As soon as Marlo was gone, Tracey fixed Andy with a serious gaze and asked, "Do you ever think about it? I mean, what might have happened if Sam hadn't broke up with you after Jerry died?"
Andy just looked at her and replied, "I never think about that. He broke my heart and if he hadn't broken up with me, I wouldn't be with Nick." Tracey knew that Andy and Sam had been great together, that they'd loved each other, but Andy was also very happy with Nick. She had seen the way that Sam watched Andy and Nick together and she knew that he still loved Andy.
With the help of Tracey and Chloe, Nick had found a ring and come up with a plan about where he was going to propose to Andy; at the docks near the house where they had been stationed undercover for 6 months, the place where they had become really good friends and when he had started to fall in love with her, though he hadn't known that at the time. He'd even gone to see Andy's dad, who had been more than thrilled. He liked Nick far better than Sam and so did Andy's mother, Clare, who, like her ex-husband, had not forgiven Sam for breaking their daughter's heart.
Of course, Chloe had mentioned Nick's proposal to Dove, so Dove told Chris about it, when they were in the locker room. Chris and Nick hadn't had the best start, but their friendship was okay now, especially now that Gail was with Hollie. When Sam walked into the room and he heard Dove telling Chris about Nick's plan to propose to Andy, he suddenly felt very sick and he interrupted the conversation. "Did I hear that right? Is Collins gonna propose to McNally?"
Dove and Chris were now feeling so arkward, but there was no point in denying it, considering the Detective had already heard the conversation. The look in Sam's eyes was heartbreaking and he stayed still for several minutes before storming out and running to Oliver's office and barged into, without even knocking. "Have you heard about this? Collins is gonna propose to McNally! Did you know."
Oliver had only ever seen his best friend like this when it concerned Officer McNally, so he sighed and replied, "No. I haven't. Where did you hear that?"
Sam started passing the length of Oliver's office and rubbing his hands against his face. "Epstein and Diaz. Oliver, how did this happen? I was an idiot, but then I told her I loved her when she was holding that bomb. I told her I'd do anything to be with her and I waited at the Penny. But she never show up and then she got together with Collins." He rubbed his hands against his eyes as he sighed, "I miss her so much. I think about her every day. How did this happen?"
Leaving his desk, Oliver made his friend stop walking and said, "Look, buddy. I know this is hard. I know you love McNally. But she's with Collins and that isn't anything you can do. You need to move on."
"Nah. I'm not gonna do that! I let her go before, I'm not going to do that again!"
Laughing, Oliver looked at his friend and exclaimed, "Sammy, you cannot be serious! It's too late."
Sam shook his head and replied, "No, it isn't. I love her and I know she still loves me. She always will. I'm not going to lose her again." Before Oliver could say anything else, he left the room and Oliver swore and rolled his eyes. This was classic Sam! Andy had loved him, but now she was with Nick. Oliver was slightly worried that Andy might choose Sam over Nick, which he knew would crush the younger man, not because she didn't love Nick, but because her love for Sam had been so passionate.
