Author note: I do not own The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild or Yakitate! Japan.
Warning: This takes place post BOTW and contains spoilers for the game! Also contains some spoilers for Yakitate! Japan. This is a bit canon-divergent because Additionally, this takes place after my two-shot "Crushes" from the series "Trials Of The Wild," so I highly recommend reading at least that one before this one at least!
And yes, this has the crossover ship of Shachioko/Urbosa. Kind-of. You'll see as you read it! I hope all of you enjoy reading it.

Summary: Everyone tries to set up Shachioko and Urbosa together. It…has some mixed results.
"Urbosa has a crush on Shachioko and vice versa."
"Wait, what!?"
Kawachi stared at Azuma, who nodded. Both of them currently sat on the roof of the castle (after climbing up there) for time to just chat with each other.
"I overheard the other guys talking earlier." Azuma admitted. He adjusted his pink hairband as he looked towards Kawachi, and then towards the entire landscape of Hyrule ahead of them. In the distance, he could see all the various towers Link once climbed (Azuma himself hadn't tried that yet, but apparently the view from those towers was really nice). "I'm pretty sure about it."
"Do either of them realize it, though?" Kawachi tried to think. He could definitely see Shachioko crushing on Urbosa. After all, he had asked her to dance with him during that one night, during the ball.
"Realize that the other also has a crush back on them? Probably not."
"Then how do we get them together?"
Azuma's brows furrowed. "Do they want to get together?"
"I mean, if I were in their shoes," Kawachi leaned back until he was lying down entirely on the roof, "I would definitely want to see how it goes. Maybe we have to play matchmaker."
Kawachi smiled. "I have an idea…"
The idea was to, apparently, force Urbosa and Shachioko to go chat with each other. Mainly through peer pressure.
Shachioko noticed everyone staring at him and Urbosa during dinner, and eventually after a few verbal pokes and jabs, they eventually both decided to retreat to the rooftops of Hyrule Castle together.
Maybe it wasn't the best place to go, but it wasn't like the entire group could climb up the castle after them, right?
"That was weird," Shachioko muttered, a sheepish laugh leaving him. "With everyone trying to ask all those questions, you know?"
Urbosa sighed as she sat beside him. Her gaze flickered towards the night sky, and then towards Shachioko himself.
"I don't want to dance around the subject any longer if we don't have to."
He stared back at her. "What subject?"
"We Gerudo are direct. Comes with the desert." A sigh left her at that. "Spencer, I know you have a crush on me. You're not the only voe that's tried straight-up telling me. I've had voe try to sneak into the town to do so and so on."
"I figured, I just…" Shachioko swallowed, averting his gaze from hers. "I just…wondered if I had a chance with you, you know?"
He saw her frown, stare back at him lightly. "A chance with me? What makes you think you'd have absolutely no chance whatsoever?"
"I know I'm not super-strong." He took a deep breath and looked up into her eyes. "I'm not some Champion like Link is. Nor am I an awesome swordsman like Suwabara. And I don't have the genius that someone like Azuma has, either. And you could probably beat me in any battle, too. But…I've got a lot of love to give. And I'm a fighter in my own way. And I want you to be happy, too."
Would she say yes? Did he give the lamest, sappiest love confession to ever exist? Probably? Who knows?
"I…want to try this. Being in a relationship. I'm not the most experienced at this kind of thing, but…I really mean it when I say that I really like you." He emphasized.
Was she going to shoot him down? Reject him? Let him bite the dust (figuratively)? He didn't know.
Urbosa wasn't sure what to think.
Or maybe she did. It was endearing that Shachioko mustered up the courage to speak with her privately like this. He was genuine, that she could tell. And kind and considerate, too. But..
"I'm not ready for this."
Shachioko swallowed again, winced.
"Not yet." Urbosa breathed. She knew it wasn't the answer he hoped for, but she knew this was the right answer. The honest answer. "I still feel like there's more I need to get to know about you first before I consider courting you. And I know you want to 'prove' yourself to me, but proving yourself doesn't mean anything if we're not a compatible pair. And I'm grateful for your praise of my skills and other traits, but," Her eyes locked with his, "I'm not perfect either. And I'd like to not be seen as such. I might not be ready to commit yet, but…I promise I won't leave you hanging. I'll give you an answer, just…not yet. Does that make sense?"
Romantic relationships were not her forte. Relationships as intimate as that were not her forte. She was certainly aware of others bonding. But managing her own personal romantic things was…well, this was a bit fast for her.
"Well, uh," Shachioko chuckled sheepishly, his gaze dropping from hers as he scratched the back of his head, "I guess that does. We could…I don't know, if you want to explore Hyrule together or chat anymore…"
"I would be happy to." She offered him a reassuring smile as best as she could. "I might not be ready for a relationship yet, but I don't want to call it off entirely yet."
"So…" He paused, frowning lightly, brows furrowing with confusion, "we're beta-testing this?"
She frowned. "Beta-testing?"
"Like, trying it out?" He supplied, offering her a sheepish grin. "To see if we have chemistry and, er, compatibility?"
"If that's okay with you, that is."
"I WOULD LOVE THAT!" She was a little startled by his outburst, but even more so at his eyes lighting up with joy. "Ohmygod THANK YOU!"
Was this going to end well? Urbosa had no clue, but she couldn't help but chuckle a bit at the whole thing. It was weird, this bond she had with Shachioko, but it was nice.
Maybe it would be even nicer once they "beta-tested" this relationship.
"So….how did it go?"
Shachioko ran into Kawachi the next morning, but he simply shrugged.
"well, uh…let's just say it didn't go well." Shachioko confessed. It wasn't exactly a lie to say so. He and Urbosa promised to each other, at the end of their conversation the other night, that they would keep it private and pretend they weren't exactly pursuing each other. "We're just gonna stay friends."
"Really?" A groan left Kawachi as he shook his head. "Sorry to hear that. I'm sure things will work out between you two, though."
"Yeah, I guess so…" Shachioko scratched the back of his head. From the corner of his eye, he noticed Urbosa talking with Mipha in low voices, and she glanced towards him briefly, offering him a small grin. He smiled back, before looking towards Kawachi again. "We'll figure it out. But at least it's not like she's gonna kill me or anything over it, so I consider that a win."
The fact that Urbosa was willing to try out 'beta-testing' this relationship was win as is. Even if it didn't lead to anything, at the very least he'd get to know her, right?
This was something he could try. He just hoped it would end well, no matter what happened.
