A/N I know you guys were expecting a 3rd installment to my Remember who you are series but honestly I couldn't think on where to go with that. So here's a new story entirely. Its about what happened after the 3rd season of the Lion Guard. Enjoy.
The Life of a King
Ch 1 Doubts
A young lion with a golden coat, amber eyes and a almost fully grown mane awoke with an uneasy feeling. This lion was King Kion and he awoke feeling really confused. Then he looked over and saw his mate, Queen Rani, asleep next to him. Kion smiled and licked the top of Rani's head. Rani stirred and opened her eyes. "Morning Ky," the chestnut brown lioness said with a yawn.
"Morning 'Ani," Kion said softly, giving his mate a nuzzle. Just then they heard two male voices call Kion's name. "Better get out there," Kion said with a sigh although the golden lion made no movement to get up. After a few minutes the males called his name again.
"You'd better go Ky," Rani said with a smile. "It sounds like Sarak and Baliyo are looking for you."
"Fine," Kion grumbled as he stood and stretched. Rani laughed as she too stood and stretched. The couple walked out of the tree and saw two lions standing there. One was an older lion that was muscular, had dark brown fur, chocolate brown eyes and a dark brown mane that swept out to the side. The other was a younger lion that had a slender build, brown fur, blue eyes and a Mohawk type brown mane.
"Hey there you are Kion!" Kion's brother-in-law, Baliyo cried out, running over to the golden King with a smile. "We've been looking for you all morning!"
"Yeah well some lions enjoy sleeping past dawn," Kion muttered with a yawn.
"We have much to do today Kion," Rani's uncle, Sarak informed the King. "Its time we began your lessons on what a King's duties entail."
"Sarak can't it wait until later?" Rani asked. "We were kind of hoping to spend the day together. Just me and Kion. We really haven't had much alone time since we got married two months ago."
"I know my dear but Kion has much to learn," Sarak pointed out. "After all he's a new King and has no real experience in these matters."
"Actually I kind of do," Kion said. "I watched my father everyday when I was a cub. I know what it takes to be a good King."
"Yes I admit you did have one of the best Kings as a role model," Sarak said. "But be that as it may you still had no formal training I assume since you weren't the heir to the throne."
"Well no I didn't," Kion admitted. "But.."
"No buts my boy," Sarak said, firmly. "I've put off your training long enough. I've put it off these last two months because I didn't want to overwhelm you Kion. But I think you've had more than enough time to settle in. Come with me please. Baliyo you should come too. It can't hurt for Kion to have someone else to help him with these matters."
"No problem Sarak," Baliyo said with a smile
"And Rani I do believe there's rounds to make," Sarak said, looking at his niece
"I'm on it Sarak," Rani said with a sigh. She gave her mate a nuzzle and with that the pair went their separate ways. Rani began to make her rounds when she heard a voice call her name. She looked over and saw her and Kion's good friends Bunga and his mate Binga walking towards her. "Hey guys," the Night Pride Queen said with a smile.
"Hey Rani where's Kion?" Bunga asked, looking around for his best friend.
"He went with my uncle and brother," Rani informed the honey badger. "Something about training. Why what's up?"
"We were hoping to do some patrolling," Binga said. "But it seams Kion is going to be busy."
"Yeah he will be," Rani said with a sigh. "And I've got rounds to make. But I'm sure your other friends would like to join you."
"Well Ono and Anga are already out doing their thing," Bunga said. "And Fuli and Azaad are out hunting. And Beshte..." Just then Beshte came onto the scene and when he saw his friends he smiled.
"Hey guys," the hippo said cheerfully.
"Hey Big B," Bunga said with a smile of his own. "How about doing some patrolling with me and Binga?"
"Sure I'd love to," Beshte said with a smile. The group of animals were about to disperse when a female tiger came onto the scene, chasing after three small tiger cubs. The cubs weren't paying attention and ran smack into Beshte's side and fell to the ground. "Are you ok little ones?" Beshte asked, concerned that the cubs may have gotten hurt.
"We're ok," the male cub said, getting to his feet.
"Yeah sorry we ran into you Beshte," one of the female cubs said.
"Its alright Pasha," Beshte said with a smile. "Just be more careful ok?"
"Ok," Pasha said with a giggle.
"I told you children not to run around like that," the cubs' mother, Varya said with irritation
"Sorry Mom," the other female cub said, looking at the ground.
"Its alright Polina," Varya said. "Just please listen to me next time. And that goes for all three of you. Understand?"
"Yes Mom," the three cubs said together.
"Mom can we go with Bunga and Beshte?" the male cub asked. "They were about to go on patrol."
"I don't think we're invited Feliks," Polina said. "And it isn't nice to invite ourselves."
"You guys can come," Beshte said, looking over and Bunga and Binga, who nodded in agreement.
"You guys don't have to take them," Varya said. "They can be quite the pawful."
"They can come," Binga said. "But only if they promise to behave and listen to us."
"We promise," the triplets said together.
"Alright then have fun my darlings," Varya said, nuzzling her children. "Have fun."
"We will!" the triplets cried out as they raced to catch up with Bunga and Beshte, who were already walking ahead of them. None of the animals realized how turned around their lives were soon going to get. A dark figure was watching from the shadows, a scowl on their face.
"I'll teach Kion and his friends a lesson they won't soon forget," the figure growled, flexing their claws. "They will rue the day they ever pissed me off. They will all pay dearly. And pay with blood!" With these thoughts the figure followed Bunga, Binga and Beshte looking forward to enacting their revenge.
TLKTLKTLK
Kion was walking with Sarak and Baliyo listening to Sarak go on and on about what being King of the Tree of Life entails. Kion was doing his best to listen but he couldn't shake the uneasy feeling he had had when he woke up. "Kion?" Sarak called, waving his paw in front of his nephew-in-law's face. "Are you listening to me?" Sarak demanded, sounding annoyed.
"Sorry Sarak," Kion said, shaking his head. "What were you saying?"
"I was saying we must be on our guard at all times," the dark brown lion said, raising an eyebrow at Kion. "But evidently you weren't just now. What's on your mind my boy?"
"It..its probably nothing," Kion said. "I don't want to bother you Sarak."
"My dear boy we're family," Sarak said with a smile. Its no burden. Now tell me what's bothering you."
"I've just been feeling a little off today." Kion confessed. "I woke up feeling really uneasy. Almost like something bad is going to happen."
"Sound scary," Baliyo said softly, his blue eyes wide.
"Like I said its probably nothing," Kion said. "So don't..." Just then they head rustling coming from the bushes. The three males got into fighting positions when suddenly a figure jumped out from the bushes, pinning Kion to the ground. "What do you think you're doing?" the King growled, glaring at his attacker
