Across the Sky
Sofia lay on the blanket she'd spread out in her secret garden. It was one of those pleasantly cool days at the end of summer. The leaves on the trees were starting to show their golden hues. The orange and yellow flowers she recently planted added a splash of bright colors to the scenery.
Days like this—when the princess could sit back and relax—were few. Oh, her schedule for the day wasn't completely empty, but then it never really was. She was going to Corinthia that evening with Amber to see a play Clio was starring in. But that was later. For now Sofia would just relax and enjoy nature.
The sky was full of fluffy white clouds, and Sofia found it quite amusing to pick out various shapes among them. There was a three—tiered wedding cake with a giant strawberry next to it. A unicorn galloped across the eastern sky surrounded by odd bits of fluff and mist. Sofia smiled to herself, remembering when she used to watch the clouds with Clover when she was younger. Those were fun times.
Suddenly, her eyes widened as she noticed two strange things. The first was that the clouds had changed from white to lavender. Now, this wasn t necessarily the strangest thing she'd ever seen. The sky in Elvenmoor was pink, and the Mystic Isles were full of so many fantastic things. However, here in Enchancia clouds were typically white or gray. The second thing she noticed was that some unseen force seemed to be shifting the clouds into shapes that resembled letters. Within seconds, three words were written across the sky.
I love you.
A knowing smile crossed the princess's face. It was Cedric. She just knew it was him. The sorcerer was currently away on an extended trip. She missed him terribly, but he would be back soon. And when he finally did come home, she would ask him how he accomplished such a great feat.
He's just so ah—mazing, she thought with a dreamy sigh.
…
On the other side of the world, Cedric sighed heavily as he plopped back on the cot that served as his temporary bed. That spell to write a message in the clouds had taken a ridiculous amount of energy, but it was definitely worth it to see Sofia's smile. He turned his head toward the crystal ball he'd just used to see what his princess was doing. Seeing her watching the clouds, he had decided to try a spell he'd never had any use for; a spell that could manipulate the clouds in a different location to form any shape the caster wished. The color thing was unexpected, but surely no one could object to lavender clouds. Right?
When he got back to Enchancia, Cedric would have a chat with Roland about these missions abroad. Yes, he'd once wanted to do things like slay dragons and fight ogres. And while he was happy that the king had been sending him on exactly those kinds of missions over the last few years, he just couldn't bear to be so far away from home for so long. He missed his tower. He missed his bed. But most of all, he missed Sofia. His heart longed for her, especially tonight. This was why he'd gotten up out of bed, after a few sleepless hours, and retrieved his crystal ball, casting the spell that would allow him to see her.
Perhaps now, after using so much energy to put a message in the sky on the other side of the world, he could finally fall asleep. Cedric shifted to a more comfortable position and took one last look at the princess's smiling face as his eyes started to close.
Soon, he thought. I'll be home with you soon...
A/N: It's not much, but I hope you liked my story for Magic.
