Disclaimer:

I do not own Nightmare, he belongs to Namco. This story is like my other stories of having me interact with the series's world, as my persona. Some events are based on real events, but are drastically changed for story purposes.

This is the story how the azure knight learned to be a knight and try to change his ways, ever since he met his princess. I hope you enjoy!

EPILOGUE:

The Knight of Mare

There was a little girl, who was named Marisa. She was at a young age of 8 when she encountered the "Knight" in azure armor. On that fated day, it was beginning.

Marisa was dragging herself from danger, running into the deep forest of the cursed. She could hear her attackers close in pursuit.

Her clothes were tattered by her avoiding her attackers bully like abuse, even branches caught her scarf, which trapped her for a moment.

She struggled to pull herself free and then fell into some bushes and was catching her breath from the terror she felt.

The attackers were that 4 boys, who were all of different age.

"Come on out, little mouse!" Called out the main leader.

"Yeah! We still have to play some more!" Said the middle aged boy.

"Your a quiet freak!"

"We got your little toy you little mouse!

Marisa could hear the insults echo from where she was hiding.

She then huddled more backwards from their footsteps, causing a branch to snap.

Before she could move to shut out her attacker's footsteps, she then heard distant footsteps. They sounded heavy and sounded like metal.

Suddenly out from the mist. A Knight was approaching.

Nothing could be seen from the shape, but a pair of red eyes that beamed through the mist.

Marisa watched the knight walking forward. She watched with awe and heard cries of her attackers and hearing them run for their lives. Dropping what Marisa had possessed, a pair of glasses and a stuffed animal made to be that of a reptile. She crawled out to see the azure knight in full, once the moon came out to clear the mist.

The knight came to a halt to get his surroundings. When he saw that 4 young souls had left. He glared, not paying attention to Marisa, at first. But he then turned himself around to see the little girl next to his feet, grabbing her glasses and stuffed animal.

Marisa lifted her head up slowly to see the knight who stood before her. He was tall like the trees of this forest to her. She didn't seem to be afraid of the knight. But she tried to keep herself from provoking him. By making no movements.

He was like a wild horse, who stood in the path of a human and observed.

Nightmare he was known in legend and those who encountered him, never lived to see the day.

However, instead of attacking. He stared down at the little girl in her tattered clothing, bruises and was rather calm to see him. Curious to why she was there in that state. He didn't seem to care of her things she picked up. But he then ignored his questions and just remained silent.

"T-thank you." She said, stuttering.

"..." Nightmare then huffed and growled softly to her thanking him.

"I was running from those people, but you scared them! So I want to thank you knight!" Marisa continued, looking up at him with a small smile.

Nightmare then turned his direction to leave her alone, not a simple "your welcome" to her praising.

Marisa got up, and saw something was off about the knight who saved her. He was injured! He must of been through several battles, but one wound was noticed on his right hand, but it was covered by his tattered cape. So Marisa didn't notice his trunk like monstrous arm, but saw blood dripping.

Nightmare walked for a moment and finally came to a halt to see Marisa was following him.

Before Nightmare could say something mean to tell her to leave him be. He then heard the voice of his father, speaking to him. The voice was telling him that he could maybe have some use for her. To be the next vessel for the sword, when the time was right.

Nightmare listened to those words and just knelt down to have a closer look at her. He saw that her soul was rich in its fullest, to what a soul could have of strength. He thought it would be a good fit for him and the sword.

Marisa approached him and stood her distance. She looked at him shyly.

"I...I have no where else to go. And I want to be far away from those mean people as possible."

"And..." she walked a little close, pulling out her tattered scarf. "You're hurt."

Nightmare allowed her to get closer, as she went. When she got close to where she saw the blood dripping. The cape slid to the side to reveal his right hand, that was deformed.

Marisa's eyes widen a bit, to see his right arm deformed with three claws and energy flowing in it.

Nightmare looked at her. "Yes...I'm not a normal knight, little girl."

Marisa looked up at him and cleared her throat. "O-oh. I didn't introduce myself."

"My name is, Marisa."

Nightmare's eyes lightly glowed. "Marisa..." he repeated her name.

"The azure knight, Nightmare stands before you, now."

Marisa looked at him with awe. "The Night of mare!"

Nightmare tilted his head, he tried to not react to such a nickname.

"Oh. I'm sorry, I heard that name from the town I left from. But I think that man was drinking too much. Nightmare." She then said to correct herself.

Nightmare bowed his head to her correcting herself.

Marisa then saw his right hand again and approached it, holding her scarf out to wrap around what she saw was injured.

Nightmare then sighed lightly, but it was muted within his helmet.

He sensed her kindness and care once she helped him.

Marisa then touched his claw to feel its texture and felt its warmth like a human hand. She wasn't at all afraid of his trunk like arm. "It's so...warm." She softly said, her hand running through its shape.

Nightmare never let anyone get this close to him, let alone Marisa, who is a child to be able to touch his hand.

He was only doing this for now and for when she was older, he would offer her soul to the sword.

So, he didn't know weather to be annoyed by this curiosity or disgusted.

But he ignored it for now.

Marisa then sat down next to his right hand and wrap part of his cape around her to feel more safe and to hide herself from sight of anyone. Even though, it was the two alone in the forest, with no one to intrude. But she just sat there, and watched his arm that was injured. "Thanks for giving me a chance..." she said.

Nightmare looked down at her and then got up slowly, and then offered his left hand to her. She took his hand and felt herself be carried in his arm, while she wrapped her arms around his neck to hold on.

Nightmare and Marisa left the forest to head back to his quarters.

Something was watching from a far. The figure watched them leave and disappeared into the forest. His eyes widened with such curiosity to see she had gone with the azure knight. But he will wait for her to grow.
