She stood on the coast of Barry Island Beach, watching the Diamardian ship fly off into the beautiful sunset. Jack was stood next to her, arms folded, clearly smiling, happy about the fact that these Diamardians didn't want to invade the earth, but instead, just needed to park on top of the Rift for a few hours to refuel their ship. Behind her, stood Owen, Tosh, and Ianto, who all had a variety of feelings on the subject.
"Isn't life so much easier when you're not being invaded?" Tosh exclaimed, taking her high heels off to walk on the sand without falling over.
"Nah, it's less fun that way." Owen said with clear cynisism. Ianto suddenly chimed in.
"You're just saying that because they could pump all of their munitions into you, and you wouldn't feel a thing."
"Yeah, thanks for reminding me Ianto." Owen sighed. He crossed his arms and turned away, trying to hide his inner conflict and shame. Ianto noticed this and went over to him.
"Owen, I didn't mean to upset you. I'm sorry."
Owen looked at him. "It's fine, don't worry about it."
"You guys. Don't you think that this was a good thing we did? All they wanted was help. Permission to use something they probably understand more than us, and we helped them. Isn't that nice?" Gwen finally said, smiling.
"This is what I meant when I said Torchwood should do more to help. We don't just stop aliens that are threats, we also observe the good ones. Try and communicate with them. They are out there. I should know, because I've met one of the best."
"Oh here he goes again, talking about that mysterious Doctor." Owen said. "If you love him so much, why don't you just fuck him?"
"I would if he'd let me!" Jack said, laughing.
"Oi!" Ianto said. "I'm still here you know?"
Gwen laughed, and lay down on the sand, resting her head on top of her hands. The others did the same. It was great that they could have these peaceful moments, and still kick ass when the need arises.
Gwen suddenly woke up to the sound of Rhys shaking her and shouting. It was all a dream. A fleeting memory of better days passing through her head as she slumbered. Gwen shot completely out of bed when she saw how worried and shaken Rhys looked, though.
"What do you mean the Prime Minister just got murdered?" Gwen asked, slightly dazed from the fatigue of an early awakening."
"It was on TV! She was murdered by... I-I don't even bloody know what it was! It was some kind of robot!"
Gwen fumbled for the remote behind the sofa. Her daughter Anwen, and her son Marth, came out of their room clutching their blankets and stuffed animals.
"Anwen, Marth, go back to bed. I'll be with you in a bit."
"Is it aliens again?" Anwen asked.
"Come on sweetheart. Mam says to stay in your room." Rhys said. He lifted Anwen up and took her back into her bedroom, Marth followed.
Gwen found the remote and rewound to the point where the Prime Minister, Jo Patterson, was going through her speech. But what the woman was interrupted by shocked Gwen to her core.
"No. Fucking. Way." Gwen said. "It can't be... Daleks? Daleks?!"
Gwen watched Jo Patterson's refusal to surrender, and heard that familiar, harsh, robotic voice say "Exterminate!" as the newly elected Prime Minister was shot dead.
Gwen examined the Daleks on TV. These ones looked very different from the ones that had stole the Earth back in 2009. Those 2009 Daleks were bronze, whereas these ones had black metal plating, covering neon red innards. Rhys finally came back into the living room, and watched the replay of those dreadful creatures killing the Prime Minister.
"How can the Daleks be back?" Gwen whispered.
"What are they called?" Rhys said. His eyes widened. "Do you know them, Gwen?!"
"Remember when our Earth was stolen along with all those other planets back in 2009. These are the same creatures that stole the Earth. They look a little different, but there's no mistaking them."
"What do we do?" Rhys asked.
"I honestly don't think there's anything we can do. If I know Daleks, they'll be all over bloody London by now, and a ton of them will be on their way here. It's going to be a bloodbath. A bloodbath without blood."
"Well we have to do something!" Rhys said. "The Gwen that I know wouldn't give up that easily."
Gwen smiled at this and kissed Rhys on the lips. She then ran out of her flat and up the flight of stairs. Rhys followed and stopped at the stairs.
"Where are you going? Down is that way!" Rhys yelled.
"I'm going to the roof of the complex! I'll have a better view up there!" Gwen yelled. "Take care of Anwen and Marth! Don't let them out of your sight! I'm going to try my best to stop this!'
Gwen continued up the stairs, her heart pounding like it used to back in her Torchwood days.
