A/N: Hey y'all, this is my first fanfiction so expect this to be below-average quality-wise.
Somewhere in the New England region of the United States in the year 2022...
There was a man in his late twenties. He was wearing a military shirt, military pants, aviator sunglasses, a military backpack, a dog tag, a kevlar vest, an advanced combat helmet, and combat boots. He had an M4 rifle on his back, a military combat knife, and an m1911 attached to his survivor belt.
'This isn't going as planned,' Tex thought to himself as small arms bullets were flying above him. He was hiding behind a car, thankfully the car was enough to stop the bullets.
"Just give us all of your supplies and we'll let you leave with a few broken bones!" shouted one of the raiders. He was wearing a worn red t-shirt with some scrap armor on the left side. He had an m9 beretta pistol.
"No can do, fucker."
"Your loss."
Tex went out of cover to shoot a few bullets out of his M4 rifle. He managed to kill one of the raiders. He tried to shoot the rest of them but he almost got shot in the head.
"FUCK!" Thankfully, he was wearing a combat helmet which was extremely effective in stopping even sniper rounds. After a few seconds, the raiders stopped to reload. Tex went out of cover to shoot one of the raiders who was holding an M9 Beretta pistol. He rushed at the other one who was still reloading, took out his combat knife from his survivor belt, and buried his combat knife in the raider's forehead.
He took out the combat knife from the raider's forehead. "Thank god I decided to wear my combat helmet for this, I almost got shot in the head for the sixth time this month!" He started taking some of the weapons the raiders had. A .357 magnum revolver, an AR-15, and a Glock 17. He also found a couple of days worth of food and water, a couple of 5.56 bullets, and enough 9mm bullets to take on a small squad.
"Time to return to maz before those undead bastards show up. I wish he will actually pay me well this time."
Tex went to place his new weapons and supplies in the trunk of his humvee. The humvee was a standard military vehicle, it had an M249 machinegun on the top, some quantum solar panels on the backside, and an electric motor in addition to the standard diesel engine.
"Next destination: The Refugee Center"
30 minutes later...
"Finally, I was afraid I was gonna run out of diesel before arriving," Tex said as he parked his humvee vehicle near the building. He started unloading his new weapons from the humvee then he went inside the refugee center.
Nowadays, the refugee center is the closest thing to a safe zone. There are enough guards here to protect the place against raiders, the main problem the residents had here was the food supply. Most residents couldn't pay for the food and they aren't willing to scavenge food from cities thanks to the occasional zombie horde.
"Hey, Maz!" Tex shouted while he was walking towards a bald, middle-aged man. He was standing inside what looked like a big vendor stand.
"You're back, I thought those raiders got you." He gave Tex a chuckle
Maz was always the kind of guy to make bad jokes at the wrong time but he's the only trader around here., plus he gives Tex most of his missions and information.
"You never said one of the bastards had a rifle, I'm lucky those idiots couldn't hit the broad side of a barn," Tex raised his voice a little.
"Alright I admit, it was my fault this time. But hey! At least you came back alive." Maz smirked.
"Yeah yeah, 'It's a good day to be alive and all that crap," Tex said sarcastically. "Now let's talk about my pay-" He stopped talking when he realized that he forgot to bring evidence, again...
"Did you forget to bring their fingers again? This is the third time, Tex." Maz was annoyed.
"Well I do have this for evidence," Tex said while bringing out the raiders' guns from his bag, he started placing them on the table. "It ain't much but it should count as evidence, right?"
Maz sighed "Alright, Tex. But I'll let it pass just this ti-" He was interrupted by Tex.
"What's that?" He was pointing his finger towards a weird electronic device, it looked like it came from a sci-fi movie, it was roughly the size of a fist. It had a small light bulb on the top of the device that wasn't working for some reason.
"Oh, that? I honestly have no clue" He shrugged "A scavenger convinced me to buy it from him, he said he got it from a lab and that it was a prototype. We were short on electronics so I decided to accept his offer. I can't disassemble the damn thing, it's too complicated even for me. Nobody wants to buy it either."
Tex didn't know what that was either, it was definitely created by the U.S government since it was found inside in a lab.
"How much do you want for it?" Maz was rather surprised by the question.
"Are you sure about this?" Tex nodded "In that case, all of the money that you were gonna get from the raider bounty and these guns," he pointed at the raiders' weapons.
"W-What the fuck, Maz? You don't even know what that device does and you can't even disassemble it!" Shouted Tex "C'mon, man. Can you at least give me a couple of .45 ACP boxes?"
Maz sighed "Fine, but I'm only doing this because I can't sell the damn thing or disassemble it. The raiders' guns and the bounty's reward for whatever this thing is and 3 .45 ACP boxes, each containing 40 rounds."
"You got yourself a deal." Tex gave Maz a handshake.
Tex takes the weird device and 120 .45 ACP rounds in exchange for the weapons that he got from the raiders and the bounty's reward.
"You come up with any ideas to fix the food situation?" Asked Tex. He was curious because of how hard it is to get food nowadays without going to cities, which were death traps if you weren't prepared.
"Yeah, We're gonna start farming. Luckily some of the residents here know a thing or two about farming so we won't have to deal with that. Though until the food starts growing we're gonna have to eat canned food scavengers bring from the cities." Maz gave a smile.
"Good, now I know that y'all won't starve to death while I'm out there. See you later, Maz." Tex waved.
"Don't die out there, Tex."
"Don't worry, It'll take more than a few raiders and dead bastards to kill me," He said while walking away. He went through the exit doors of the building.
Tex was loading the new weird device and the .45 ACP boxes in the humvee's trunk. When he finished unloading his new gear he went inside the humvee and started the engine.
'Time to head back home, it has been a long day,' He thought to himself while driving the humvee on the old road.
After around 15 minutes of driving, Tex reached a building. It was roughly the size of two houses. There was a small sign on the roof with the words "EVAC SHELTER B-25C". The building looked quite old and the windows were mostly shattered, there was a small town a couple of miles ahead. Tex decided to park his humvee nearby before heading inside the old evac building.
'Home sweet home,' The building was surprisingly better-looking inside compared to the outside, there were several lockers on the edges of the building and benches in the middle. There was a sleeping bag and a few cans of meat, soup, and vegetables next to the benches. There was also a ladder that was high enough to reach the roof.
Before Tex could do anything, he suddenly heard multiple vehicle engines, they were getting closer by the second, after around 15 seconds the car engines stopped.
'I don't think they came to visit,' Tex thought sarcastically. 'It doesn't get better, It never gets better...' He equipped his M1911 pistol.
"Alright you idiots, this humvee definitely belongs to the idiot that killed our recruits. If you find him, put a bullet in his head!" An unknown voice shouted.
'Shit, that's definitely the leader of those raiders. How the fuck did they find me?' It doesn't matter how they found him now, this will get dirty real fast.
Tex started crouching towards the main entrance, he aimed his M1911 pistol at the entrance in hopes of killing one of the raiders before they could even get a chance. After waiting for a few seconds the door was kicked by one of the raiders who was holding an SMG. As soon as he entered he was shot in the head. His friend started shooting through the window, missing every shot. Tex started firing back at the raider. He fired 3 times, he missed 2 shots but the last one hit his torso. The raider screamed in agony. While he was trying to stop the bleeding, Tex went out of cover to shoot him through the broken window one last time which killed the raider. He took out the M1911's magazine to check how many bullets he had. 'Two rounds' He said as he placed the magazine back in his pistol.
He decided to take the SMG that the raider had. He took out the magazine to check how many bullets it had, 'Roughly half a magazine left.' He slipped the magazine back inside the SMG, He also took the M9 Beretta from the raider's holster. He unloaded the gun to check how many bullets the magazine had. 'around 9 bullets.' He reloaded his pistol and decided to go on the roof to have a better advantage point.
He climbed the ladder and reached the roof. As soon as he went on the roof he was met with bullets going over his head. 'FUCK, AGAIN?' Luckily the roof was high enough to the point where the raiders won't be able to hit him as long as he was crouching. He started slowly making his way towards the edge of the evac shelter. The raiders kept on firing at him for a few more seconds till they stopped to reload. Tex went out of cover and started shooting at the raiders, most of them were hiding behind vehicles. He managed to kill two raiders but then he ran out of bullets for the SMG he got from a dead raider.
He threw the SMG away then he hid behind cover. He switched to his M9 Beretta, went out of cover, and shot a raider in the head. The raiders decided to retreat because of the casualties. 'This is my time to escape.' Tex used the ladder to go inside the building. He took the essentials from the lockers, food, water, and more ammo. As soon as he finished taking items from lockers a raider came through the back door.
Tex aimed his M9 Beretta at the raider and tried to pull the trigger but the raider hit him in the face with his rifle which made him drop his pistol. He kicked the raider in the guts and tried to get his dropped M9 Beretta but the raider knocked him on the floor. The raider tried to reach for his rifle but before he could fire the trigger, Tex kicked his legs which caused him to fall on the floor. As soon as the raider was knocked down Tex tried reaching for his combat knife but the raider kicked Tex's torso with his legs, luckily Tex had activated his Offensive Defense System a while ago which caused the raider to get shocked, this gave Tex enough time to take out his combat knife and slice the raider's throat. He quickly grabbed the raider's rifle and went out through the front doors.
The gunfire attracted enough zombies to keep the raiders busy while Tex was making a run for it to his humvee. He had to shoot some raiders while running with his rifle. It ran out of bullets so he threw it. He entered the humvee and started up the engine. When the humvee's engine came back to life Tex started driving as fast as he could. He could hear raiders screaming behind him but he simply ignored it.
A raider saw Tex's humvee escaping the scene, he started shooting his AK rifle at the humvee which managed to hit the trunk multiple times, luckily only one bullet went through. The weird device was hit in the center with one 7.62 round which made the device's small light bulb start flashing blue and white repeatedly.
"I knew this wasn't gonna end we-" He stopped talking when a green portal appeared in front of him. He tried stopping the vehicle but it was too late, his humvee was already sucked into the portal.
Emerald Forest
'This is definitely the third-worst day of my life.' apparently getting attacked by raiders and almost getting shot in the head seven times in one month wasn't enough. Now Tex gets teleported to a forest. Not to mention that he almost collapsed his humvee with a tree.
'Speaking of trees...' Tex thought to himself, it looks like he's in the middle of a forest. He went out of his humvee then he noticed something...weird, though using weird is an understatement. 'Is it me or I'm shorter?'
"Why am I sho-" His voice sounds younger, it sounded like a teenager, probably 17 years old.
"WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO MY VOICE?" he shouted, Tex legit didn't know if this had anything to do with this weird place or the stupid fucking device, 'no wonder it was a prototype'.
"WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO THE MOON?" he shouted, again. The moon had definitely seen better days, it looked like it was bombed to hell, that's the only logical explanation right now at least.
'Well, questioning whatever the fuck's going on won't help' He went to the trunk of the vehicle, when he opened it he found the weird device but it was red, like lava red. Tex tried picking it up but it was extremely hot.
"shitshitshit!" he repeated himself while moving his finger fast in the air in an attempt to cool it. He only touched the device for a brief second but the thing was still painful. "Looks like I'll be stuck here for a while." Tex didn't like this, not one bit. He started unloading his trusty M1911, then he loaded spare .45 ACP bullets into the pistol's magazine. He checked his vehicle's trunk to make sure that nothing else was damaged.
Luckily enough, nothing else was damaged. Inside the trunk was a small, crushed bullet. Looked like it was 7.62. He picked it up then started examining it. 'The device definitely had something to do with the portal that appeared. Judging by how bad the bullet looks. I'm gonna guess that it hit the device.'
After examining the 7.62 bullet, Tex went to the nearest tree and leaned against it. He took off his army helmet and decided to smoke an electronic cigarette. 'I really wish I had a strong drink for this.' He thought to himself. Tex's stuck inside a world a shattered moon, as a teenager, in the middle of a forest, and the only device that can bring him back will take at least a few weeks to fix. 'This whole situation is getting more and more fucked by the minute.'
While Tex was rethinking his life decisions and realizing how fucked he is, he came up with an idea. He ran to the humvee's trunk and took out military long-range radio. Thankfully the radio wasn't hit despite how close it was to the weird device, he switched the frequency to 250.4 MHz, placed his army helmet on the top of the humvee, and started talking on the radio.
"Hello? This is Staff Sergeant Tex Lenn from the US Army. Does anyone hear this?" He repeated that for the next minute or so. He got no responses so he switched to another frequency. He switched to the 125.1 frequency and started talking on the radio again. "This is Staff Sergeant Tex Lenn from the US army. Can anyone hear this?" Spoiler alert: Nobody answered. He repeated that four more times until he got tired of trying and turned off the radio. 'I'm either too far away from any city or I'm just unlucky as hell.'
"FUCK!" he shouted at the top of his lungs, Tex took off his backpack and threw it at the humvee in rage. 'Relax, Tex. You got into worse situations and still got out alive, this is nothing.' He thought to himself before taking a deep breath in an attempt to calm himself down. After that Tex decided to scout the area, it wasn't really the best idea he could come up with but it's better than nothing. He went to his humvee's trunk to get some gear just in case.
The first thing Tex took out was his kevlar armored, full-length military duster, it was covered with pouches and pockets. It had the United States flag on the left side and the word "U.S Army" on the right side. It was designed to protect the user from harm while still being able to withstand a lot of abuse. The military duster had a PDA device, it could be used to keep track of the user's health, limb stats, items, hunger, thirst, and stamina. There was a map functionality but it took a few hours to map out the surrounding areas, no point in using it now. The PDA could also be used to control the user's bionics, ranging from turning them on or off to controlling how much power they generate. Last time he checked, most of the important ones were turned on.
After putting on his military duster, Tex decided to take his lovely A7 Laser Rifle and place it on his back. He placed his M4 rifle inside the trunk, no point in carrying two rifles, especially since one had limited ammo. The laser rifle wasn't mass-produced, mostly because the cataclysm happened while they were still testing the rifle. This thing is one of the most beautiful abominations you can find nowadays inside a lab. It used to require electricity for power but thanks to Tex's Metabolic Interchange CBM and Internal Unified Power System CBM it now uses its stored calories as power.
He took out his M1911 pistol from the survivor belt and placed it in the trunk. Then he took the V29 Laser Pistol and placed it inside his survivor belt. It was pretty much a smaller, less effective, but still powerful version of the A7 Laser rifle. After all, it's always a good idea to bring backup.
The last thing Tex took from his Humvee was two mark II m67 grenades. He started examining the grenade, it was pretty similar to the standard grenade but it was much more effective during combat compared to the standard version. After he finished examining the grenade he placed it in one of the duster's pouches.
Tex took off his aviator sunglasses and placed them on the top of the humvee. He equipped his A7 Laser Rifle from his back then he took his army helmet from the humvee and placed it on his head.
'Well, you know what they say. "We're burning daylight."' And with that, Tex took off to try and find something useful in the forest, or at least someone. He started walking for a few minutes. There was nothing around except trees and bushes, not even rabbits, deers, or anything you'd normally expect to find inside a forest. It was also fairly quiet, like the you're-gonna-get-ambushed quiet.
Thankfully, nothing bad happened while Tex was walking in the forest, nothing good happened either. And when things couldn't get any more interesting Tex found a cave, it wasn't too big but it wasn't too small either. Tex tried going inside the cave but it was too dark. He saw a small, yellow glow in the middle of the cave so he decided to activate his army helmet's flashlight to be able to see the glowing thing, oh boy was that a huge mistake.
He saw a HUGE, black-and-white scorpion with roughly 10 eyes. The scorpion was even bigger than a truck, WAY bigger. It had two massive claws with red markings, It had a glowing golden stinger on its tail, which explains something at least. There was some grass on its claws and torso so it had definitely been here for quite a while. It moved very fast despite its huge size. It was rapidly making its way towards Tex.
Tex was wide-eyed, whatever this thing is it's definitely not looking for friends.
"Oh boy, you are one ugly motherfu-" Before he could even finish his sentence, the huge scorpion punched him with its massive claws which sent Tex flying towards a nearby tree. The impact was as painful as you'd expect. Tex could've sworn that he heard his bones crunching. He tried standing up but even that took some effort, that scorpion surely fucked him up real good, it's a good thing that he didn't take his sunglasses.
When he stood up, the first thing he saw was the scorpion making its way towards him with its claws in the air, preparing itself for an attack. Tex took the laser rifle from his back and aimed it at the scorpion.
"This is going to be a terrible night," Was the last thing he said before pulling the trigger.
A/N: There we go! The first chapter is done! Didn't take that long to create, to be honest. Reviews, creative criticism, and feedback are welcome. Leave a question and I'll try to answer it in the next chapter (I'll also reply to your reviews)
I'll try to update this fanfic once every week or two at most.
