Rose Hunter recognized everyone has some issues with their mother. However, she felt her difficulties with her mom were more extreme than most girls.
Her mother, Iris Hunter? On the surface, she looked like the perfect picture of a devoted mother. However? Looks can be incredibly deceiving. The truth was Iris Hunter was far from being a perfect mom. We can acknowledge no one is perfect. However, Rose's mother? The issues she had with her were enough to drive any sensible person irate.
One of her mother's most identifiable characteristics remained the fact she procrastinated with everything. Whenever crucial paperwork or a special event came up, her mother always waited till the last minute to do anything.
She was even waiting to fill the gas tank. Whenever it reached the red, she still insisted she didn't need to fill up. Not to mention her negligence stretched over to how their apartment was kept. Seeing how Iris desired to snooze, smoke, and guzzle soda while watching "Downton Abbey" for the twenty millionth time. Furthermore, no one else in the house lifts a finger to help!
That left it up to Rose to clean the entire apartment plus the backseat of her mother's vehicle. Because if she didn't do it? Then the landlord would evict them for not keeping their home tidy enough.
Rose also had to take a cart outside twice a week to dump the garbage since her mother overfed their kitty and didn't bother to clean either of the litter boxes daily. Which again caused their bathroom to look like a toxic waste dump! It smelled as bad as one too! Really! One cat shouldn't need to use two littler boxes. It shouldn't eat like a pig and shit like an elephant!
Then there was also the fact her mother continually got her to appointments late. Doctor, dentist, or therapy her mother continuously got her there late. Instead of leaving half an hour before the appointment so that they could deal with the traffic issues? Her mother always left ten minutes late, so she wasn't there at her appointments fifteen minutes beforehand like every office tells you to be.
Except that wasn't the most unfortunate of her difficulties with her mother. Her mother also stole or bullied her for money to pay for her smoking habit. Even when Rose firmly said no, her mother kept bullying her until she got what she wanted.
Plus, her mother never took any severe weather warning seriously. No matter how many times there has been a tornado or flood warning? She never took cover or took the issues seriously. Like she didn't care at all, they could be in genuine peril!
Worse still? She favored her daughter Lily over Rose. No matter how childish or insulting Lily was, she never got penalized for it. When Lily slammed the car door, she didn't get screamed at. However, Rose did when she hadn't slammed the car door. Whenever her twin sister threw a tantrum in public, her mother never reprimanded her.
Hell, one time, Lily threw a tantrum because a person blocked her online. She demanded Rose tell her why because the person who blocked her was Rose's online friend. Rose stated truthfully it wasn't any of her business, which it honestly wasn't. However, her sister continued to throw a tantrum, and her mother started to demand she answer the question.
It didn't matter whether her sister was acting like a toddler or, again, it wasn't Rose's place. It didn't matter that both were abusive, which is unquestionably why someone would block them.
When Rose called them both out on their behavior, she got for that being slapped across the face! She'd gotten out of the car and started walking home and having enough of both her mother and sister's abuse. Even when she called the police on her mother? The first thing out of her mother's mouth after the police told her she committed assault? "How else was I supposed to get her to shut up?"
Unbelievable! Even when the police told her they could arrest her for the assault, that's her answer? Nothing, not even the prospect of being arrested, would get her mother to change.
It caused Rose to be continually outraged for the gross mistreatment she received from her family how they'd never acknowledge their abusive and disrespectful behavior. So what's a girl to do? When she's wholly powerless, and there is never going to be resolved? I hope you can figure it out because Rose indeed couldn't!
Seek Perspective, Not Perfection
