IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
This is a reboot of my current MLP series. What caused this? Well, I was looking through my old work and noticed things I wish I did or didn't do, as well as new ideas that I've had that would work better if I just updated older chapters. Don't worry, I'll leave the old stories up for those who want to read it, but this is going to be the official story from now on.
This reboot will have a few key changes;
1: Changes to chapters, which will bring in some new ideas I've had since starting this. Most will be major early on but will slowly start becoming minor as the story moves on.
2: New chapters and some old ones removed. Will mostly involve episodes I feel do have some value to the overall story that I didn't include the first time because I was either too lazy at the time or didn't like the episode in question.
3: A redoing of the order of existing chapters. Example: a couple of season 2 adventures will be appearing earlier than they did previously which brings me to...
4: This is all going to be one massive story, instead of multiple smaller stories.
Next chapter will be released sometime later today so with all that out of the way, let's get to it.
Prologue
Orpheus's POV
It was summer in Washington DC and one lone boy walked towards somewhere with his head hung low. "Orpheus Boran," a voice called out behind the boy, filled with malice, "Look at you. Heading off to the hospital, I suppose your weak little mommy would love to see you trapped in there."
A pale teenager with raven blue hair with lightning blue eyes named Orpheus, turned around to see a group of 6-7 boys with one standing in front. A dreaded feeling swept through him, already guessing what was about to happen. "What do you want, Jerome? I don't have time for this," Orpheus asked. "Great, now I have to deal with these crap bags again," he thought to himself.
"Oh, I think you do," Jerome said. "After all it's not like your mommy's dying. Oh, wait, she is." Orpheus could feel his anger rise as the rest of Jerome's gang laughed at this. Those soulless bastards.
"SHUT UP!" he screamed. The gang slightly flinched at his outburst, but Orpheus controlled himself. They just wanted a reaction and he wasn't going to give them any more than he already had. "You know nothing about what's going on," he continued coldly before turning to continue towards the hospital. He then stopped when two more boys, also a part of Jerome's gang, got between him and the path to the hospital. "So, you think you're going to stop me?" Orpheus asked, already knowing how this would play out.
Jerome walked up behind him as Orpheus turned to look, his bully having a cocky smile. His mistake. "Yeah, we will." The two in front of Orpheus tried to grab him but he spirited through the gap between the two and ran out of there. While he ran, he could hear Jerome getting pissed at his group. "Damn it guys, you were supposed to grab him before he runs, not after!" he scolded. Orpheus couldn't help but smile slightly, because once he started running, no one could catch up. Though that was also his biggest problem according to his friends. He was too quick to run away from his problems.
After running a few minutes he slowed down to find himself right at the hospital. As he walked the receptionist spotted him. His mother had been in here for several weeks dealing with heart cancer, and the doctors have been having trouble combating it. They think it has to do with the amount of stress she had to deal with on her last diplomatic visit, as she was a well-known negotiator but her last trip had been especially challenging and she had been gone for 2 weeks longer than expected. "Room 315, Orpheus," the receptionist tells him. They both knew she didn't need to tell him, as his visits were daily, but it was standard procedure.
After climbing up 3 flights of stairs he makes his way to room 315, and the door opens as he approaches and the doctor that's in charge of his mother's treatment steps out. "How is she?" Orpheus asked him.
"Not good," the doctor answered, "I don't know if she'll even make it until tomorrow morning."
After what felt like an hour Orpheus finally asked "Can I see her?"
"Yes, she asked for you just before you showed up. I'll let you two have some time alone," he says and turns to leave. Orpheus then opens the door to see his mother wired up to multiple devices.
"Orpheus, there you are. You know you don't have to visit me every day," mom's voice said weakly.
"The house gets lonely without you," Orpheus didn't have any siblings, and his father died when he was young. He may be used to his mother leaving on long trips, but they always made the most of it when she was home. Orpheus pulled up a chair and sits down next to his mother's bed.
"Orpheus, I fear that… my time is… running out," mom struggled to say.
"Don't talk mom, save your strength" Orpheus told her gently.
"I need to say this Orpheus… but I don't have the time to do so. Listen carefully," she started before coughing heavily. "Remember your favorite story when you were a kid? The Tale of the Two Sisters?" she asked. Orpheus nodded, trying to keep the tears from his eyes. "I need you to pull it out of the shelf... you will open a hidden compartment. There will be a small chest which will explain everything I've never found the time to tell you."
"What are you talking about mom?" Orpheus asked.
"The truth I hide because I felt you weren't ready for. But, always remember that I love you and… your… sisters…" she muttered out before death claimed her. Orpheus was racked with grief and held mom's hand, hoping for her to respond, but he knew she was gone.
Numb with grief he barely heard the nurse tell him that he had to leave. He left the hospital for the last time and numbly walked home. On his way back, he was stopped by his friend David. "Orpheus? You alright?" he asked. David had dark skin and black hair that he kept pretty flat and bright brown eyes.
"I'm just tired. One of those days," Orpheus lied.
"If you say so. If you ever want to talk, you know me, Trenton and Ben will listen," David told him.
"I know. I just want to be alone," Orpheus told him. David nodded in understanding before he headed away. Orpheus continued home as well and when he arrived at his house, pulled out the key in his pocket and headed inside. "WHY IS LIFE SO UNFAIR!" Orpheus screamed with rage and grief while punching the wall. He recoiled from the pain but it faded quickly. He thought over his current situation and realized he was pretty much screwed. He'd probably get thrown into the orphanage once news got out that his mother was dead, and he had no intention of ending up there. There were a few family friends, but they were mainly with his mother, and his friends' parents weren't fond of him, thinking he was some kind of weirdo. Then again, most people did due to the strange things that happened when he was younger.
"Damn. What am I going to do now?" he asked himself. He then remembered his mother's final words. "Worth a shot," he muttered to himself. He walked upstairs to the storage room where his old things as a kid were. His mother had been persistent in keeping his childhood things much to his annoyance. He eventually found the book he was looking for and saw there was a button behind where the book was placed. He pressed it, and a small compartment opened up.
He pulled out the box that was inside it and opened it up. Inside, he found a few things. The first was a golden crystal that was radiating some kind of power. It felt familiar, but odd at the same time. The next was a few pieces of paper in his mother's handwriting. Figuring this was something important, he read it.
Orpheus
If you are reading this then it likely means I am no longer with you. This also means I most likely didn't tell you about your past before it happened. You see the land that is mentioned in The Tale of the Two Sisters, Equestria, is real. And the two sisters are your own, Celestia and Luna. No doubt you're wondering why we are here and not with them, so I'll explain.
When you were born, a king from a former ally of Equestria saw you as a threat to his regime and sought to kill or control you and took you one night. Me and your father raced after him and we managed to get you back. However, he wasn't backing down and your father opened a portal to this world to protect us. I don't know what happened after that, but I know he didn't survive. I tried to get us home, but my magic wasn't strong enough. So, I created the crystal that you found in the box using what remained of my power. It will probably kill me, but that's a sacrifice I gladly make for you.
Should you choose to return, I suggest you do so at your own risk. Also, Orpheus Boran is not your real name, it's Night Storm. Should you choose to use it when you return to Equestria is up to you, but I hope so. Although I may never see my homeland again, I hope you take the chance to do so. Simply focus on Equestria, and the crystal will bring you there.
And should you meet your sisters again, please, let them know what happened to me, and that I've always loved them. I know that when I go, I'll always be with you three. No matter what.
Love, your mother, Bright Star
As Orpheus finished reading, he felt tears streaming down his cheeks and fall onto the paper. He found all this hard to believe, like something out of a fairy tale. But why would mom lie? She never lied to him in the past and she had nothing to gain by doing so. He thought it over, and he guessed it made sense. A few days before mom left for her last diplomatic venture, she had spent a lot of time in her room working on something, looking pretty weak when she came out. Which means she made this crystal recently.
He looked at the crystal and weighed his options. This was a once and a lifetime opportunity, and mom had sacrificed herself for this chance. How could he not use it? But on the other hand, he had no idea what he was getting himself into, and he'd be leaving behind everything he ever knew and could potentially be risking his life by returning. He had two, though one sister when he thought about it, since one of them was in the moon, however that worked. She could protect him if whoever forced him to Earth was still alive. There was still David, Trenton, and Ben, but his relationship with them had been strained for a while and he wondered if it was worth it in the end.
Orpheus took another look at the crystal and came to his decision. He tucked his mother's final words into his pocket and picked up the crystal. He closed it in his hand and focused on Equestria. The crystal glowed a bright yellow as light filled the room. Orpheus felt odd as the whole thing happened, but he powered through it and uttered one last sentence before the light took him. "Equestria, I'm coming home." Orpheus Boran was leaving Earth, and Night Storm was returning to Equestria.
