Jay sighed as he turned the key into the lock. He watched as the Oak door opened and he stepped into the entrance. The entire 3 bedroom 2 bathroom condo silent. As he expected it would be since he hadn't been here in about 2 days and it was after midnight. Sighing he closed and locked the door as he reached over and turned on lamp that sat on the side table. Once he unlaced his boots he kicked them off of his feet. Lining them up next to his running shoes that hadn't been used in about a week or more. But still lining both pairs of shoes in the most perfect line. Something of course that the army had drilled into him the moment he enlisted.
Rubbing his temples he took the badge off around his neck. Laying it down as he entered the 4 digit code to his gun safe that sat on the side table as well. Once both gun and badge were locked safetly inside it was like he could freely breathe again.
2 days. 48 hours that was how long he had been working on one single case in the intelligence unit. Exhausted was an understatement. The only communication with his wife of a year and a half was a few text messages here and there and that was it. That was when of course he didn't have to be completely radio silent. Finally after arresting the guy just a few short hours ago. Hank Voight had relieved his entire team with the only promise. Keep your phones on.
But now? Now Jay Halstead was home. In his home. A home that he had bought with his wife Elianna. They had just moved in about 6 months ago.
Once Gianna came along they realized quickly that they were running out of space in Ana's Condo. Then soon after that. Jay's lease had finally run out on the condo that he and Hailey were supposed to be living in together. Except they had broken up before they had even had a chance of moving in together. Leaving Jay of course with a hefty sum of rent he was barely affording. It had gotten so bad that he even had to take up security team jobs in his spare time to make sure rent was paid every month.
Until he met Ana and they had just began automatically sleeping over at her place together. All. The. Time. Then of course when Ana got whiff of what was happening with Jay's own condo she was admit on helping him pay it off. According to her what if they wanted to get their own place sometime?
Of course they did. Soon as Gianna turned 6 months old. They found a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom condo on Indiana Ave. Brand new hardwood floors and it came with a rooftop balcony minutes from the stores they had always seemed to need to go to and just minutes away from Downtown Chicago and the lakefront. They had gotten the loan together of course with Jay's income as a Detective and Ana's income as Psychologist in now her own medical practice in Downtown Chicago. For once Jay had even dug into his Veteran background. Something the couple hardly talked about.
Jay's time in the Army.
Ana had told him reaching out for Veteran loans wasn't needed. Jay simply told her it was at least something the Army could do. So with their incomes and Jay's Veteran's status banks began reaching out from jump street.
Now they were here. Home owners. Well at least in 20 years. Right now? They were just a couple with an 11 month and a mortgage.
Shaking his head when he realized how after almost 2 years post Erin and post Hailey how different his life actually was he wouldn't believe you. Good thing he was living this life and could actually see all the changes that was happening around him. Walking into the kitchen he flipped the light on. Jumping slightly when he saw Ana sitting at the island with her laptop. Typing away with one Airpod in her ear without a care in the world. The baby monitor sitting in front of her.
"Jesus Ana!" Jay yelled as he jumped back. Ana gave him a small smile as she took her airpod out. Laying it on the island top. "Sorry!" She giggled. "I didn't expect you back tonight and I finally just got Gianna down for the night hopefully and I had to catch up on some charts before Monday. Far behind." She closed her laptop lid and looked at him with a smile as he began walking over.
"Well hello husband." She muttered as Jay walked towards her from behind. Laying both arms on top of the island. Caging her in almost. Ana smiled as she watched as his arms wrapped around her. Locking her in place. She let a giggle slip as he kissed the back of her head.
"Hello wife." He muttered.
Ana relaxed into him. Closing her eyes she enjoyed the fact his arms were locked around her. To her it was just as good as a weighted blanket and she didn't have to go to the store to get one and she didn't have to pay for it. She had the silver band on her finger. He was her weighted blanket for life.
"Are you hungry? I could make you something quick." Ana whispered. Jay just shook his head no as he kissed the side of her neck lightly. "Nah grabbed food on the way home. Hoped I got here soon enough to put G down apparently no." Ana patted his hand with a smile. "Well I'll just let you get up with her tomorrow."
Jay chuckled. "Sounds like a deal."
