Chapter 1, The Hyrulean civil war.
For many years all of the races of the great kingdom of Hyrule lived in peace.
The centre piece of Hyrule was the Triforce, a mystical artifact that was created by the gods and held their power, the Triforce was so powerful that any who wielded its full might would have any wish granted, though few knew of this fact.
The Triforce had three pieces, power, wisdom and courage, though these three pieces was made to stay together it was said that if someone with an imbalanced heart was to try to claim the Triforce then it would divide into its three separate pieces and the imbalanced heart would only claim the piece that it most desired.
Holding just one piece of the Triforce would enhance its wielders natural abilities, be they physical or magical, however each piece of the Triforce also granted its wielder many unique abilities.
The Triforce of power granted its wielder the roar power of a god, they would become immortal, immune to both ageing and disease and almost impervious to injury, the wielder's strength would become greater than that of any mortal and they would gain great magical abilities that even the greatest of sorceress could not match.
The Triforce of wisdom granted its wielder greater wisdom than any other, they would be able to see and sense things that others could not, even things that had not yet happened, the wielder would always make the correct division in any situation.
The Triforce of courage granted its wielder protection from many magical and spiritual threats, not even the Triforce of power would be able to pierce this defence, the wielder would have nothing to fear from the darkness.
Then one fateful day a tribe who knew of the Triforce's true power attempted to steal it using their dark magic, the actions of this tribe revealed the Triforce's true nature to the other races of Hyrule.
What ensues was a civil war where all of the races tried to claim the Triforce for themselves, some out of greed and others out of a desire to protect themselves from the other races.
The war was brutal and bloody, it lasted several years and many lives was lost, including the Hylian queen who was assassinated by the dark tribe mere days after giving birth to her only child.
For a time it seemed that the dark tribe would emerge victorious in the war, but then the gods themselves intervened and sealed the tribe's dark magic away, without their magic the tribe was defenceless to the coming attack from the other races, and so they fled from Hyrule and was never seen again.
Even without the dark tribe the war for the Triforce continued.
Eventually the King of Hyrule sealed the Triforce away telling very few where it was hidden, with the Triforce gone the King was able to unite the remaining races under the rule of the royal family and at last Hyrule knew peace once again.
