The Great Epiphany exposed the onmi-verse to everyone.
One day, with absolutely no warning, three marvelous things happened that signaled the beginning of a new age. The first was the sudden and instinctual understanding of their being more than what one knew, with no further details to go on provided. At least, until the second signal, the unexplained appearance of the Shards of the Not, crystals with unique powers that came from globs of light that fell from the skies, all skies, everywhere. Those two events lead to the third, the true epiphany of the Great Epiphany.
There were Realms outside of yours. Everything anyone in the onmi-verse ever knew, even an entire multi-verse, was merely a single Realm out of probable trillions. Universes and multi-verses were like marbles on a table. Each was unique and detailed in their own right, and yet only a small piece of a larger whole.
At first, the most shocking part of the Great Epiphany was the understanding that these others Realms were not all together unfamiliar. They were usually previously known. But not as reality, per say. They were usually known as fiction, or what had been thought as fiction before the Great Epiphany. But as it turned out, every book, movie, TV show, video game, or other example of fiction was a reality somewhere out their in existence.
The hefty philosophical implications of this were often put aside amongst practical concerns. The newly revealed omni-verse had already become a warzone the likes of which none had ever seen. Two factions arose from the infinite possibilities to battle. The first to form was the Organization, a cabal of unrivaled scale and ruthless ambition made up of by the lion's share of all the evildoers of Existence, from all Realms, who would tolerate this alliance of convenience only until all their traditional enemies were obliterated. Those traditional enemies, the noble and extraordinary defenders of the innocent and righteous, united into the Society, dedicated to opposing the Organization and improving the onmi-verse for every single living thing in its truly infinite Realms.
Due to a heroic sacrifice early in the Great Epiphany, the Society gained a stronghold and base of operations in the Shield, a barrier surrounding twelve Realms that is impossible to enter without the direct permission of a one of a dozen beings known as a Shield Bearer.
The omni-verse was a stage on which the ultimate drama would play out, good verses evil. Both sides were aiming to not just destroy the other but also claim new lands, new Realms, for their own. Whether it was by legitimate alliance or conquest, the desired end result for both was the same, more allies and resources for them to use against the other.
Nine months have passed since the Great Epiphany and the battle is still going strong.
The latest struggle in this war for the omni-verse would take place in Realm 82…a Realm home to many monstrous things, including a location named the City of Devils…
Hello everyone! To those of you who are used to my work, it might seem odd I don't have any author's notes at the start of this. Or that this is even a thing that exists, now that I think about it. Lol
Pretty much none of you who have read my prior content know this but this story has been a LONG time in the making! My main writing partner and me have been working on this particular story for over a year now. This story is important to us both for its own sake and because it's the starting off point for what we hope is a popular and good shared fan-fiction universe. Years ago, there was a similar idea called Ultima but it has since ceased to be. This is a spiritual successor to that concept. Think of it like a fan-fic MCU, with stories that can be enjoyed in isolation while also being part of a shared whole that draws on prior entries and will have connections to future ones.
Think of this prologue as the Star Wars style opening title crawl that broadly explains the largest concepts at play just enough so you grasp them from the get-go as the details are fully filled in over the course of the actual story.
While I wrote this story, it wouldn't be possible without one of my closest friends. Crossover4. I won't load this opening author's notes with a history lesson but I will say this, Ultima as a whole is his baby. He was one of the main parties involved in the previous version of Ultima and has been chopping at the bit to get another version up and running. This wouldn't be happening without him NOT shutting up about it for literally years until he convinced me to be invested! Lol. But seriously, though it annoyed me at first, I grew invested. Thanks for being annoying! Lol
For many reasons, we are very nervous! Lol. I normally don't like to front load my shameless begging but I would forever grateful if you could give this story a chance. I've recently discovered that uber-crossovers like this apparently aren't that popular or well received, at least by those who I have asked in private before this. I hope to be proven wrong. Lol.
I'll say this again in the closing author's notes of the first chapter but there's something I want to stress. I'm going to do something I've never done before. You see, unlike normal, this ENTIRE story is already completely written up! Aside from needing the author's notes, I could have uploaded the whole thing right now! But I know that doing so hurts reviews because for some reason people hardly review stories uploaded in giant chunks like that. And reviews are something I DESPERATELY want for this! So, I have another idea. The second chapter of this story will be uploaded in two weeks...unless the chapter after this one, the true beginning of the story, gets at least ten reviews. If it does, chapter two will be uploaded whenever I am first able to do so! And that same condition will remain in place for this entire story. So if you really like what you are reading, it's entirely in your power to ensure you get your next hit sooner. Also, don't feel the need to review this prologue. As much as I love reviews, I know there isn't much to discuss. Lol
