This is an AU where Donatello will be a female turtle named Donna. She'll have the same personality and characterizations with a caring and mother hen quality. And all the turtles will be 16, just like the OC.

A Chance Meeting

2002

Geez…. New York is so dirty and grimy for the most part. I can't really imagine why anyone would want to live here. I've been living in New York for a few months because I was sent by my master who is named the Ancient One. He found me as a baby on a random trip in America and took me to his home in Japan and taught me the ways of Ninjutsu and honour. And if you want to know how I look, I have short brown hair with flecks of blonde and teal eyes. And about my parents, well the only thing I know about them are from a letter the Ancient One found with me and of a ring that I wear around my neck as a necklace.

Just as I turned 16, he believed I was ready for my next stage in being taught. He told me to go to New York to find someone he knew personally called Splinter who was raised by one of his former students, Hamato Yoshi.

The past few months, I haven't been able to find Splinter and I've been looking in nearly every nook and cranny to find him. So far, the only place I haven't checked are the sewers. I was just sitting in a trash strewn alley to take a little break before I go back to my rented apartment.

Then I hear a vehicle coming in my direction and so I hide behind some trash bags and cans so that no one can see me. Just as I hid myself, the vehicle in question drove into the alley and parked itself by the door to the building. Once parked, some guys who are so poorly dressed and have poorly done hair exited out of the truck. I noticed that their clothes have what looks like a purple dragon on them. They must be part of a gang.

"Hey Two Ton, watch the truck. We don't want anyone stealing our stolen money." The guy with the long, turquoise hair told the big, bulky guy with the bat with nails on it. Okay, now I just got angry because they stole money from whoever, knowing gangs, it's more than likely an innocent man or woman running a business.

I was just about to deal with the big lard but then I heard what sounds like 3 pairs of feet landing on the structure above me. Then I saw a figure land in front of the trash in the shadows so I can't get a good look at who it is and whoever it is, they're sneaking up on Two Ton. Then the figure taps him on the shoulder to get his attention, uh…..what?

"Hey. This is a no parking zone. Here's your ticket and here's your fine." The figure remarked. The voice sounded like someone in their teens. Anyway, this figure leaped forward and kicked Two Ton with enough force that he was thrown right at the truck and was knocked out.

Then what I saw next surprised me. Another figure leaped down and it was a humanoid turtle with knee and elbow pads and wraps and a belt, carrying 2 katana blades wearing a blue eye mask. The figure who knocked out Two Ton was another humanoid turtle but he had an orange eye mask and nunchucks for weapons. Then a third one leaped down and he had a bo staff and a purple eye mask. Upon looking closely, I can see that this one is a girl.

"Nice work, Mikey." The one in blue said to the turtle in orange.

"Heh. It's a ninja thing." Mikey casually said. So they are ninjas. But why would they be out here, wouldn't people freak out?

I saw the turtle in purple turn her head as though she is sensing something. I became wide eyed because she must be sensing that I'm watching them.

"Guys. We're being watched." She said. And I was lost for a second in how her voice was intoxicating. She gestures her head in my direction and the other two look right towards me. Since they know I'm there I can't delay the outcome so I stand up with my hands up and walk out so that they could see me.

"Don't worry. I'm not here to fight you." I said to hopefully ease the tension since they're hands are near their weapons.

"Then why were you hiding back there?" Blue said.

"I was already here before those gang members parked here so I hid." I explained truthfully. Purple looked at me as though she examined my face to see if there were any hints that I was lying.

"You're telling the truth." She stated. This made everyone, including myself relaxed.

"Thanks." I said.

"So, you don't find us weird or scary in any way?" Blue asked me with curiosity.

"Not really. Being a ninja, I've seen some interesting things over the years." I reasoned and they looked surprised.

"You're a ninja too?" Mikey asked.

"Yeah. And I was sent by my old master to find someone named Splinter to carry on as my new master." I explained and they looked at each other with stunned looks on their faces.

"Splinter is our father and master. We got separated from him and are trying to meet up with him." Blue said. Well, that makes things a bit easier.

"Can I join you in meeting with him?" I asked them.

"Yes. Since he's supposed to be your new master, we'll bring you with us." Blue said.

"Thanks. My name is Patrick. What are your names?" I introduced myself and asked them since we can know each other better.

"I'm Leonardo. The one in orange is Michelangelo, and the one in purple is our sister, Donna. And we have another brother stuck in the truck named Raphael." Now Leonardo said gesturing to himself and his brothers. Mikey waved and Donna nodded her head

"Named after Renaissance artists, mostly. Not bad." I said as I moved my head around in acceptance.

"You're educated?" Donna asked me. Again, I found myself lost in her voice for a second.

"Yeah. But shouldn't we focus on your brother in the truck?" I explained to get them on the task at hand.

They all nodded and we walked to the truck and in the window there was Raph who had a red eye mask and he was banging on the glass and yelling something that isn't clear thanks to the glass.

"Man…. whatever happened to good old fashioned padlocks?" Mikey said which made me look at the locking mechanism which is very advanced for today.

"Heh. Where's the fun in that? This one's all mine." Donna proclaimed as she pulled out tools from her bag. Damn, her confidence is appealing.

As he is tinkering with the lock, Raph yells and bangs on the windows, clearly fed up of being trapped.

"What's that Raphael? You're gonna have to speak up dude. I can't hear you." Mikey decided to joke is unnecessary because of the task at hand. This annoys Raph that he elbows the window.

"I heard that." Mikey further joked.i shook my head at his jokey attitude.

"I'm trying to work here." Donna said to Mikey with goggles on.

"Yeah, Mikey…. You don't want to be punched do you?" I asked knowing that will happen if he keeps going. He took the message and stopped.

After a few minutes, Donna cracked the lock open.

"Hey, Raph. Welcome back bro." Mikey said right before he got fully tackled by Raph and rolled on the ground and such as he got a bit beat up.

"Are they always like this?" I asked Donna and Leo and they both nodded casually. Jeez, hothead brother and immature brother: explosive mix.

"Such a hothead." Leo said and then he turned his head and then he pulled out one of his katanas which made me and Donna turn around to see that the gang are back and with some more members. Donna places his bo staff at the ready and I pull out my metal tonfas which are wrapped in leather.

"Raph, we don't have time for this." Leo stated to Raph as we back up from the truck.

"And why is that?" Raph asked as he stopped beating up Mikey.

"Because we're not alone." Mikey answered him and they pulled their weapons out and stood by our sides.

"Look at the freaks and geek. What's with the dweeby costumes?" Two Ton mocked. How did he get up that quick?

"This ain't Halloween." A random thug said. Then the one with long, turquoise hair steps up with a staff and spins to try and look intimidating. What a moron.

"You're going down, losers. Nobody messes with the Purple Dragons, especially wearing stupid turtle costumes and a wannabe tough kid." Turquoise proclaimed and that set us all off.

"Time to put you down, mutts." I warned and we all leaped at the Purple Dragons and we demolished them in a way that would be embarrassing to anyone. Turquoise was the only one left standing and he looked so scared he would piss his pants.

"Run, little children." I mocked and they all ran for their lives and screamed.

"Give me some green." Mikey quipped and high threed with Raph. I say high threed because the turtles have only three fingers on their hands.

"Well, that was easier than expected." Donna said as she leaned on her staff. This made me curious.

"You guys have never fought against anyone before?" I asked them all.

"Yeah. Master Splinter forbade us from heading up to the surface for all our lives." Leo explained. I nodded in understanding since Splinter was just being a good parent wanting to keep his sons safe.

"Yeah well, I hope more of those guys show up. I'm just getting warmed up." Raph eagerly said. What a fight junkie. Just as I was about to say something, I saw shadows come over Mikey which made me look up and I saw figures on the roofs of the buildings surrounding us.

"Well, you just got your wish granted Raphie boy." Mikey said more than likely to try and diffuse the tension. The others looked up and they saw the ninjas as well.

"Are those guys, ninjas?" Leo asked in confusion. Then all of the ninjas leaped from the rooftops and surrounded us, clearly wanting a fight.

"Well, they're certainly ninja-esque." Mikey said. I just sharply looked at the ninjas, tightening my grip on my tonfas.

"Be ready for anything." Leo told all of us as he positioned himself with his katana.

"I'm so gonna enjoy this." Raph remarked, seemingly excited to get a challenge. And then we all leaped in different directions.

I leaped away from them and I had to face 3 ninjas, who wielded katanas or Kamas. I swiftly took one of them down with a spin kick to the legs and hit them in the chest with one of my tonfas. The other 2 circled me and the one with the Kamas swung at me but I managed to block it and I kicked him away but this left an opening for the other one as he swiped my leg. However, my master taught me that if you're ever in a situation like this one, try to use the momentum from the attack to get back at them.

And so, I used my momentum and swung my tonfa at his leg with so much force that I heard bones cracking and he yelled in pain.

I got back up and looked to see how the others are doing. I saw that Leo is up on higher ground and is holding up against multiple ninjas. Raph is breezing through it all. Mikey is fighting against ninjas with tonfas and Donna just got kicked and hit the truck. My instincts kicked in and I instantly took down the ninja that kicked her and I ran to her and pulled her up on her feet.

"Are you okay?" I asked her concerned. Wait, I'm now very concerned for her. I only just met her and her. Even she looked surprised.

"Yeah I'm okay." She answered. In the corner of my eyes, I noticed some ninjas about to throw shurikens. I opened the truck door and got in with Donna and closed it which stopped the shurikens.

"We need to get out of here." I told her.

"Yeah. Let's get this thing going." She agreed and referred to the truck. I helped her get into the wiring and we both combed through the wires to find the right ones to start the truck.

"How many of these goons do we have to wap, before they take a hint?" Raph asked more than likely Leo and Mikey.

"Really, they just keep coming?" Mikey added. They're right, these goons are resilient.

"Time to switch to plan B. Donna, Patrick?" Leo said.

"We're almost there." I told him right as we found the wires. We then connected them and sparks were lit and the engine roared to life. We looked at each other and smirked in accomplishment. I then got onto the passenger seat as Donna sat on the driver seat.

"This is leaving anywhere but here." Donna announced. Then the others got into the back of the truck as Donna started driving. It's clear she doesn't know how to drive because she'd swerve and hit cars, objects and such.

"Nice driving, Don. For a turtle with no license." Mikey stated as he, Leo and Raph are thrown about.

"Hey, you want pretty or do you want effective?" Donna asked in a tone that said 'shut up'.

"I gotta tell ya, this has been one mondo-bizarro day. First all those metal robot things underground, meeting someone who is looking for our master. And what's up with those ninjas? Ninjas in New York City, besides us? That's just not right." Mikey explained. Metal robots? I looked at Donna curious about the robots, she then looked at me and knowing why I'm looking at her, she just shrugged.

"Tell you later." Donna simply said as she made a turn which threw Mikey to the floor.

"Talk about not right. Check this out." Raph said and I turned my head around to see him grabbing one of the bags and poured out its contents to reveal the money those Dragon goons stole. Mikey got a bit ecstatic and grabbed some in his hands and pumped them into the air.

"Show me the money, baby. Whoo hoo!" Mikey proclaimed gleefully. I shook my head in annoyance at how greedy the guy can be. Leo clearly felt the same since he got up with a stern look and grabbed one of Mikey's hands.

"This isn't finders keepers, Mikey." He explained to him as he pulled the money out of his hand. Mikey then pouted.

"Yeah. By keeping that money, you're no better than those Purple Dragons." I added my thoughts to him and he looked at me as though he realised it and nodded in agreement. Leo smirked at what I said and I noticed that Donna did as well.

Then I faced forwards and noticed a police car.

"Let's drop it off to that police car." I suggested and they agreed since they gave me the bags. Donna parked right next to the police car and I rolled the window down.

"Hey officers! Take care of this stolen money!" I shouted to make sure they heard me and I threw the bags onto their car. Then Donna drove off and we reached a fenced off tunnel into the sewers and she ran through it. We then went down the tunnel until we reached what must be the drainage junction. We stopped and there were a lot of destroyed robots and there was a humanoid rat meditating. This must be Master Splinter. Then the siblings got out of the truck and ran to him clearly happy to see that he's okay. I stayed in the truck until they called me to.

After a few moments, Leo turned his to me and I took that as a signal and so I exited the truck and walked towards them. Splinter looked at his children with a stern look, thinking they did something to make me encounter them.

"There's no need to tell them off, Master Splinter. They actually helped me by making my search for you quicker." I explained to him and he looked surprised.

"You were looking for me?" He asked me in a voice of warmth, wisdom and care.

"Yes. My old master told me to find you so that you can be my new master. I'll explain later." I told him and he nodded in agreement.

"Yes, you are right. Let's go home." Splinter said before he walked towards the hole in the ground. Me and the siblings were confused by what he meant.

"Home. We ain't got no home. Those robo-menaces trashed our lair. Remember, sensei?" Raph reminded him as he tapped on one of the destroyed bots.

"Do not worry. I believe I have found the solution to our current housing problem. Follow me, my children." Splinter said before he leaped into the hole. Knowing that he's a master and he jumped like it's nothing, must be fine. So I ran and jumped into the hole and I slid down what I can describe a water slide without the water. It was so cool. I then reached the bottom to see I'm in a tunnel and saw Splinter standing there waiting.

"Patrick?! Are you alright?!" Donna asked, seemingly worried for my well being. I chuckled at how caring she seems to be.

"I'm fine! This thing is a wicked slide!" I humoured them and I walked to Splinter to see him smirk and we stood there waiting for them.

"Who is your old master, Patrick?" Splinter kindly asked. I faced him to properly answer him.

"The Ancient One." I told him. He looked surprised at that reveal but he accepted it.

"I believe you'll be a great addition, Patrick." Splinter said to me in a tone of acceptance and eagerness of me being his student.

"Thank you, sensei." I thanked him as I bowed to him and he bowed back. Then as we waited, the siblings' yells were coming closer. Then they all came into view and crashed into each other and piled on top of one another.

"Wicked slide!" Mikey excitedly shot out of his mouth. I smirked and walked to them and offered my hand to Donna to get up. She smiled and grabbed my hand and got up.

"Thank you." She said in the most lovely tone.

"No problem. Just trying to be a gentleman" I replied. We all then walked to the opening and Mikey stupidly thought that this tunnel was the new home. It ended with Donna hitting him on the head with her staff.

We kept walking to the opening and in front of us was easily the coolest place I've seen so far in New York. It was a huge hall that was 2 storeys tall with various rooms. And there were pillars and an area that would be perfect for a pool and a bridge.

"This is beyond awesome." Mikey said in awe.

"I could give this place a real tune up." Donna muttered in eagerness and excitement. I smiled at her tendencies, they're pretty adorable. Whoa…. Adorable?

We all walked into the huge hall and looked around. I was in so much awe that I blocked out Mikey proclaiming various rooms as his.

"So you see my children, change is good." Splinter said and I ultimately agreed since nothing stays the same.

"We couldn't agree more, Master Splinter." Leo said as we all gathered around him.

"Good. Now let's see you kids clean up for a change. This chamber is filthy." Splinter than told his children and they all groaned like little children who are spoiled.

"Oh, quit complaining about you four. This can teach you something." I said to them and they pouted at me while Splinter smirked at what I told them.

Little would I know that this would be the start of a life full of love, hardships, bravery and intergalactic and fantastical adventures.
