Chapter 1: Decision
A beautiful Sunday noon in New York City, Jamie Reagan is on his way to announce his big decision of joining the Marine Corps. As he stood on the front porch of his family's home, he knocked on the door and his grandpa opened the door.
"Hey, pops." Jamie greeted his grandpa Henry, obviously nervous.
"Hey, Jamie. Come on in." Henry said with a smile, signaling him to come in.
"Where's the others?" Jamie asked looking around.
"They're at the dinner table, Danny is coming in a bit with Linda and Jack but Erin is here along with your Dad." Henry said as they both went into the dining room and he was greeted by the rest of the family. After some time went by, Danny and Linda along with their 6 year old son named Jack arrived at the house.
"So, I got an announcement to make." Jamie said while everyone sat down around the table.
"Go for it, son." Frank said being obviously curious of what he was gonna say.
"I am joining the Marine Corps and I am leaving for Recruit Training in 4 days" Jamie said and then he let out a big exhale and everyone around the room looked surprised.
"Wow." Frank said to break the silence of the room.
"So you gonna become a Marine?" Danny asked.
"Mhm." Jamie responded.
"Jamie, you just graduated Law School. Why not go for your law career?" Erin asked, worried for her little brother following their father's and grandfather's footsteps.
"I want to serve because we are at war and we need troops so I decided to sign up for the Marines." Jamie answered, looking at Danny who was silent.
"If that's what you want, then I will support you." Frank answered.
"I second that." Pops said with a smile.
"Jamie, have you really thought this through?" Erin asked trying to persuade him.
"Yes, I have and it's a done deal." Jamie responded.
"Danny?" Frank asked looking at his oldest son.
"Yeah?" Danny answered at a loss.
"Anything to say?" Frank asked.
"Well, Jamie I hope you can survive the Corps and know that I support you Harvard." Danny responded.
"Thanks, Danny." Jamie responded with a smile.
"Let's say grace." Pops said.
After 4 days, Jamie got on a plane and went down to South Carolina. From there he went on the bus to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC.
On the bus, he searched for an open seat and found one in the back.
"Hey, can I sit here?" Jamie asked the person next to the open seat.
"Go ahead man." The young man said and Jamie sat down.
"I am Jamie, Jamie Reagan." Jamie introduced himself.
"I am Nick Collins, people call me Speedy." Nick answered and they both shook hands.
As they pulled up to the yellow footprints, they witnessed the Marine Drill Instructors waiting for them. When the bus came to a complete stop and the doors opened, and the yelling started.
"GET OFF THE DAMN BUS RIGHT NOW." The Drill Instructor yelled and everyone got out the bus very quickly.
"GET ON THE YELLOW FOOTPRINTS RIGHT NOW, MOVE." Another Drill Isntructor yelled and everyone got into formation.
"YOU'RE NOW ABOARD MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT PARRIS ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA. YOU WILL RESPOND WITH YES, SIR OR NO, SIR WHEN WE ASK YOU A QUESTION, IF WE GIVE YOU AN ORDER YOU WILL RESPOND WITH AYE, SIR." The Drill Instructor said, yelling.
"AM I CLEAR?" The Drill Instructor yelled again.
"YES, SIR." Everyone yelled.
"FORM TWO LINES ON THE SILVER PORTALS INFRONT OF YOU, SCREAM AYE, SIR." Another Drill Instructor yelled.
"AYE, SIR." The recruits yelled.
"THESE PORTALS INFRONT OF YOU SIGNIFY YOUR TRANSFORMATION FROM A CIVILIAN TO A UNITED STATES MARINE RECRUIT, YOU WILL PASS THESE PORTALS ONCE AND NEVER AGAIN, AM I UNDERSTOOD?" The Drill Instructor asked, constantly yelling.
"YES, SIR." The recruits yelled and the portals opened and they starting going inside. In his mind, Jamie was nervous and also excited of what's gonna happen in Recruit Training so he hopes for the best as he starts his career in the United States Marine Corps.
