Goku and Vegeta stood face-to-face with the sailor scouts. for over a year, the two teams had worked in tandem to protect Earth from every threat - aliens, meteors, it didn't matter. The important part was how they acquired their strength. In-between battles, they trained together on Kami's Lookout - the same location where they now stood once more. The saiyans taught their feminine counterparts how to harness and conserve their ki through close-quarters combat. The girls learned just as much about amplifying their ranged attacks through concentrated usage, reducing the risk of innocent casualties, Now, as they prepared for their final lesson, they stared on with respect and gratitude. Goku reciprocated their gaze with a smug smirk of his own. Vegeta, on the other hand, proved much harder to read.

"You've come a long way," Goku said with a smirk, "When we first met, you could barely take a punch. Now look at you."

"We had awesome teachers." Lita replied.

"We're both impressed with how far you've come. That's why we called you here. This will be your last lesson."

"Our last?" Mina questioned curiously.

"That's right. We're going to teach you the ultimate combination technique. It'll increase your power thousands of times over."

"What is it?"

"Fusion."

"Fusion?"

"There are two ways to do it, but the general concept is the same. When two people fuse together, their bodies merge into one fighter."

"No way! That's incredible!"

"Sounds too good to be true." Rei pointed out.

"Thought you'd say that," Goku acknowledged, "How 'bout we give you a demonstration?"

"Be my guest."

"All right! Brace yourselves!"

Vegeta stepped next to Goku.

"This is the last time we're fusing this way, Kakarot."

Goku ignored Vegeta's reprehension and continued his speech.

"For this method to work, you have to adjust your power levels until they're about the same. Watch closely."

Goku transformed into a super saiyan. It was just as much a sight to behold as the first time the girls saw it. Vegeta followed suit.

"Vegeta's managed to keep up with me pretty closely over the years, but the power distinctions between the five of you are a bit more clear."

"Let me guess: Serena's the strongest, right?" Rei acknowledged begrudgingly.

"Hey, don't look so down in the dumps. Helping her will benefit you in the long run."

"Huh? What do you mean?"

"You'll see."

Goku and Vegeta began the fusion pose.

"FU-SION HA!"

A bright light encircled the lookout. The girls shielded their eyes. When it finally dissipated, Gogeta stood before them. His aura reached the sky, piercing through the heavens. Serena recoiled in shock.

"OH, MY GOD!"

"Not bad, huh? In this form, our combined powers multiply to a lesser extent, but as we get stronger, so too does it."

"Is there a way to separate back into your normal selves?" Rei asked.

"This method of fusion wears off after half an hour on its own. Using up your energy quickens the process."

"What's the other method?"

"See for yourselves."

Gogeta tossed a pair of spherical earrings to Rei.

"What are these?"

"Potara earrings forged by the Kais. The being formed from those is even stronger."

"Stronger!? You've got to be kidding me!"

"Be warned: if you use those earrings, you'll be permanently joined together. It's a decision not to be taken lightly."

"Together...Forever...!?"

"If you truly wish to gain the most out of such items, continue your training and maintain a friendly rivalry. We learned long ago such circumstances complete the fusion, opening the door for their true power to be unleashed."

"I see...Thank you, Goku...I mean Vegeta..."

"Gogeta will do fine."

"Thank you...Gogeta..."

"I trust you'll use this power wisely. I would prefer not having our students be our final opponents."

The girls nodded in unison. Rei looked down at the earrings again.

"A friendly rivalry...So be it. Should that time ever come, Serena and I will be ready..."
