Lucina and the Gentleman Thief
Chapter One: The Mask
"Whew, that was one tough one. You really pulled out all the stops," Chrom said with an encouraging smile, despite the various scratches on his face.
Lucina sat down on the ground with an exhausted grin on her face and said "Thank you, father. I was honestly expecting you to hold back but I'm glad you didn't."
Chrom and Lucina had just gotten through with an intense sparring session, with Lucina barely losing out to her experienced father. Behind them, her mother Robin stood leaning against a tree near the entrance to the Smash Mansion.
"You did great sweetie!" Robin exclaimed with a wide grin on her face as she pushed herself off the tree and walked towards the downed swordswoman. "I was extremely impressed. It's obvious you got stronger during our time in the last tournament." Robin added as she pulled Lucina up from the ground.
"Not strong enough," Lucina said with a dejected sigh.
"Don't be so hard on yourself, Lucy," Chrom told her with a firm tone. "You put up a hell of a fight and nearly beat me at several points during the spar. My experience won in the end. You surely would have beaten me if we were at the same level."
"And trust me, I've seen this guy from his first battle to our last…He is telling the truth," Robin said jokingly. "If you don't believe me, ask Reflet…If he and Kamui can separate from each other for ten minutes."
Lucina giggled at this.
Reflet was her father's best friend as well as her own. They tried going out for a spell at the beginning of the Smash 4 tournament but the awkwardness of dating someone who her father saw as a brother weirded them both out and they remained friends.
Reflet and Kamui, the female version of Corrin, had been together since the very end of the last tournament and the second they saw each other, they became inseparable.
'I just hope they can find a way to breathe with their lips attached to one another constantly,' Lucina joked within her head.
"Alright honey. Your father and I are going to head inside and get him all patched up. We'll see you at dinner?" Robyn asked.
"At dinner mom," Lucina confirmed.
Chrom and Robin smiled and walked back into the smash mansion, leaving Lucina alone in the training courtyard. She picked up the kendo sticks she and her father had trained with, an exact replica of their blades, and packed them up into a black duffle bag but it was then she heard it.
There was the sound of running coming from behind the wall a few feet away from her and it sounded like it was getting closer.
"I hope it's not Waluigi and the gang again," Lucina sighed out.
Waluigi recently formed a team with Shadow, Grey Fox, and Black Knight to try to become full-fledged fighters and Master Hand had told Isaac, Zero, and Alucard to guard the Assist mansion but they were a crafty bunch.
She gripped the kendo stick that replicated her Parallel Falchon and walked towards the wall but then a black blur leaped over the wall and landed into a crouch, allowing her to see the figure.
The figure was a black-haired pale teenage male with dark gray eyes and his outfit consisted of a black ankle-length tailcoat, a high-necked waistcoat with gold accents, black jogger-style pants, brown-black winkle pickers, and a pair of red gloves. His mask is a black and white, birdlike domino mask.
She had never seen him before around here but she immediately took a step back and placed her weapon before her and said "I don't know who you are but this is as far as you go!"
The teen rose to his feet, gave her a cocky grin, spun a knife in his right hand, and said, "I wasn't expecting anyone to be guarding this palace. Especially one as beautiful as you."
Lucina blinked.
She wasn't expecting that at all…
"Do you often compliment your enemies?" Lucina questioned with a faint blush on her face.
"Not often but the mood strikes me," The figure responded with a wink. "Unfortunately, there is something I must take. Business, I'm afraid, so I bid you farewell." The figure pulled out a smoke bomb and threw it into the ground, causing a cloud of black smoke to fill the area.
Lucina coughed as she waved the smoke from her area but she managed to see him leap over her head and run into the mansion.
"Damn it," Lucina said as she gave chase. She skidded into the mansion and saw the blur rush up the stairs, nearly causing Luigi and Daisy to fall down the stairs. Lucina followed him but made sure to jump over the pair, who were trying to steady themselves.
She ran up the stairs to see the thief opening a door only for him to shake his head and move to another door across the hall and frown as well. "Halt!" Lucina shouted, causing the thief to turn around to face her.
He gave a wink before he dashed down the hall, which only made Lucina growl and charge after him. She watched as the thief turn a left corner and followed suit only to see that he had disappeared.
"Where is he?" Lucina asked herself, unaware that the thief was crouching on the head of a stone goomba above her, a grin on his face.
He gave a whistle, causing her to whip around to face him. "Looking for someone?" he asked.
Lucina leaped up and swung her replica weapon at the thief but he flipped back onto the third-floor railing and skidded backward while Lucina grabbed the stone goomba and lifted herself into the air and landed on the third floor as well.
The minute Lucina landed on the floor, she dashed forward and swung her weapon at the mysterious youth but he swayed from left to right to avoid it before blocking the second strike with his dagger.
He shot her a confident smirk before he pushed the blade away and kicked Lucina in the chest which sent her staggering over the banister and down to the second floor.
Lucina groaned in annoyance and narrowed her eyes as the thief leaned over the banister and said "Sorry about that! I'll make it up to you later." He gave her another wink and a wave before his figure darted back.
Lucina rolled backward onto her feet, leaped up to the stone goomba then leaped over the banister to the second floor and looked around.
"Where did that scoundrel go?" Lucina asked herself. Her question was quickly answered by the shriek of Peach and Zelda coming from down the hall.
Lucina quickly ran down the hall of the third floor until she reached the shower room, just as a wet Peach and Zelda walked out with towels over their bare bodies. Lucina lowered her head as a blush appeared on her face. "Princesses, did you two see a masked individual come past?" Lucina asked.
"Yes. That person busted into the shower room," Zelda said with a scowl. "How he got past Samus nearly killing him I will never know."
"At least he apologized," Peach offered with a kind smile. "I saw him heading to the fifth floor."
"Thank you both," Lucina said with a brief bow but Peach waved it off.
"We're all princesses here, no need for the bow," Zelda said with a grin. "Go get him, Lucy."
Lucina nodded and quickly ran past the pair to the fourth floor then quickly to the fifth floor only to see the thief avoiding the quick kicks of a towel-clad Samus.
Lucina could not help but admire how quick the thief was in avoiding each strike from the equally as fast Samus. He rolled beneath a roundhouse kick from Samus and got to his feet and leaned backward to avoid a sidekick to his stomach and then darted down the hall.
Lucina ran past Samus and said, "He's mine." She didn't stick around to hear Samus' response but she was right on the tail of this thief and he was hers to take down, no one else.
Reaching the next floor, Lucina barely saw the black blur of the thief dart into another room, but it was then she realized what room he had run into.
It was her room.
She skidded to a stop at her bedroom door and saw the thief standing in front of her opened bay windows with an item in his hand that she instantly recognized as her butterfly mask.
"Y-You put that down!" Lucina commanded with a faint stammer as she held her weapon up.
The thief turned around but instead of putting up a fight like she thought he would, he instead held up his hands and said with a smile "You got me."
Lucina narrowed her eyes as she approached the thief, fearing that he had another trick up his sleeve but when she realized she had gotten close to him, she held her weapon to his neck and said "No funny tricks thief."
"None at all," He replied.
Lucina reached up to get her mask but found her eyes staring into his mischievous storm gray ones.
It was odd but she felt herself being drawn into them.
She suddenly realized that in her reaching up for her mask that he held, that their bodies were pressing against one another. She began to feel hot beneath her clothing as she focused on getting her mask from his grasp.
She felt her fingertips touch the mask then managed to get a nice hold and pulled it from his grasp and quickly leaned away, keeping the weapon at his neck. "Why did you try to steal my mask?" Lucina questioned as she kept her eyes on him.
"Who said I was after your mask?" The thief questioned, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes.
Lucina blinked in confusion as the thief gave her a wink before he leaped backward through her window, which caused her to rush forward and after him but when she looked outside, there was no trace of him.
She frowned and muttered, "How strange…" She turned away from the window but as she turned to place her mask back on the pedestal that rested beside her bed, a single red rose sat on it.
She picked up the rose and observed it for a moment, a small blush appearing on her face as she looked back at the open window and murmured "Was this his goal?"
Just then, Ike and Sheik skidded to a stop in front of Lucina's door. "We heard you were chasing somebody and came to help," Ike said as he looked around.
Lucina turned her head and said "Ah! Everything is fine. It was just a thief after my mask."
"A thief?" Sheik questioned. "I see…Has everything been taken care of then?"
"Yes…He managed to get away sadly, but I doubt it'll be the last time we see him," Lucina replied.
"Alright...Well, Sheik and I are going to this coffee shop that just opened up with Snake and Bayonetta. You wanna go?" Ike asked.
Lucina smiled and answered him with a nod.
"You better hurry, Snake and Bayonetta are already at the front door," Sheik said before the pair left, leaving Lucina alone in her room. Lucina nodded and looked back at the rose that was in her hand and smiled softly.
"What a silly thief," she whispered but when she left the room, the rose from the mysterious thief rested beside the mask on the pedestal.
