This is something I just made for fun. The premise is kinda cliche but it'll get better.
I tapped my foot to the beat playing from my headphones.
It was good and with vocals, it would sound even better... but there was still something missing. I rested my chin on my hand, trying out different sounds on the track hoping something would fit in.
Somebody tapped me on the shoulder and I jumped at least a foot high, breaking out of my reverie. I swivelled my chair around.
Ben, or to be more precise, Prince Benjamin Mercier of Auradon stood before me looking very pleased with himself over scaring me.
I paused the track on my laptop and slid my headphones off before giving him an annoyed look.
"Really Ben? Have you forgotten how to knock?" I said crossing my arms, "What would Belle say?"
"Hey!" Ben said still grinning. He plopped down on my bed facing me, "I did knock. Not just once, but five times- you wouldn't listen, so I let myself in."
He was wearing his signature blue suit, his brown hair combed neatly matched with his brown eyes.
I, on the other hand, was wearing a blue sleeveless top along with black shorts, my brown hair pulled up into a messy bun, loose tendrils lining my face.
"Well it's your fault," I said not willing to back down, "You know I work on my music right now! Even Jordan and Killa leave the room at this time."
"But I NEEDED to tell you something," Ben looked at me, pouting.
I sighed. I looked over my shoulder at my laptop longingly. How I wished to kick Ben out of my dorm and return to my music, my hand sliding over the laptop's touchpad and my headphones over my ears, blocking out the whole world- well, at least for the next hour or two.
But then I looked back at Ben who was still pouting. Ben has been my best friend since primary school. He was my brother in all but blood. We knew each other like the back of our own hands.
Which is why I knew that he wouldn't interrupt me right now unless it was important.
"What is it?"
Ben grinned, dropping his pouty child act in an instant. Not that I expected anything else. "You know how we had planned to bring in villain kids-"
"You planned," I pointed at him, "I just listened." Then I shook my head slightly, "Wait- Don't tell me... You talked-"
"No, no," Ben interrupted me before I got ahead of myself, "I'm going to talk to my parents today when I go back home for the fitting."
I mentally facepalmed. That made sense! Of course, that is when he would talk to his parents.
All the students were going home today for the dress fittings for the upcoming coronation where Ben would be declared King. I would be leaving in the afternoon. Ben, on the other hand, was leaving in less than half an hour, explaining why he needed to talk to me right now.
"Congratulations!" I exclaimed putting a hand on Ben's shoulder excitedly, "You've been planning this for so long. It's finally happening!"
"Yeah," he said, "Just hope that it goes as planned." He said it jokingly but it was clear from the nervousness in his eyes that he really was scared.
"Hey," I said, "You will convince them. Don't worry."
"I'm not worried," he said. I raised an eyebrow, giving him an are-you-seriously-lying-to-me look. "Ok- ok fine. I am a little worried. I just... really want this to work. This will be the first decision as King of Auradon. And it's not a small decision either. People will jump over themselves- trying to find faults in the program."
I pushed myself off my seat and sat down next to him. "I know how you feel," I said. I looked out the window towards the school garden. Students roamed the area, laughing and chattering, excited to meet their parents and try on new dresses.
"I'm supposed to become the future royal advisor," I said, "People are counting on me to help you out, to stop you from making a wrong decision. If something goes wrong then they'll blame me as much- if not more than- they blame you." I turned my head to look at Ben who also had his eyes fixed on the window."But I'm not scared," I said, "Cause I know you'll succeed."
"How can you be so sure?" he said. For the first time in his life, he sounded so unsure of himself.
"Because I know you," I said, "You won't give up until you convince them."
Ben turned away from the window and fell back landing amongst the cluster of pillows, "But what if they are disappointed? What if the people are disappointed?"
"You can't please everyone. There will always be someone who's disappointed, but if what you're doing is right, they'll come around."
"And if I'm wrong?"
I chuckled, "Then you'll learn, like the true beastly king you are." I ruffled his hair.
Ben yelped and jumped off the bed and away from my reach. "Not the hair," he whined. He flattened his hair with his hand before sticking his tongue out at me and I, oh-so-graciously, returned the gesture.
"Stop being a baby," I stood up and walked towards my laptop, plopping down on the swivel chair in front of it, "Now! Tell me. Do you think I should add some more kick drums to the track?" I ejected the headphones from my laptop and played a part of the track to Ben.
Once it was finished I turned around to face him. "Um..." he looked around as if a fairy would pop up from behind my bed and tell him what to say, "Sure?"
I raised an eyebrow. "You know you can just say 'I don't know' right?"
He raised his hands in surrender, "You should have guessed, I know nothing about this stuff!" He gestured towards my laptop.
I laughed, "Yeah you're right."
Ben turned towards the clock hanging from the door and groaned. He stood up reluctantly, "I should leave."
"Yeah," I said, I stood up and hugged him, "Bye Ben."
"Bye Al," he whispered back. He pulled away then and giving me a smile, walked out of the room.
I sat on my chair, connecting the headphones back on and playing the track.
