Back when Callen was a teenager and living with Hetty
Hetty was surprised when Callen offered to show her something.
'Is this supposed to impress me?' She asked when she saw his big surprise: A chess board.
'I want to challenge you to a game of chess. Someone at school has been teaching me how to play, and I want to try out my skills out on you!' Callen replied, excited.
Hetty was very stunned at his offer. Yes, she played chess, but she was a master at it! This almost 16 year old was challenging her to a game?!
'Very bold move. Okay, I'll humor him.' Hetty thought before agreeing to it.
During the game, Hetty looked at Callen's moves, and how he made them.
'Hmm. Likes to make risky moves, tends to take his time when making decisions. Interesting combination.' Hetty mused.
In the end, she beat him, but not as easily as she thought she would.
'You've got skill Mr. Callen, I admire that. With a lot practice, you could become a master player!' Hetty said.
'You think so?' Callen asked.
'I know so! If you want, I could be your teacher.'
'I like that very much!'
'Good. We start work tomorrow morning.' Hetty finished.
After several months of practice, and the occasional throwing of the board in frustration, Callen eventually became a chess master. Though, he never could beat Hetty, and he didn't know why.
