Getting off the Isle of the Lost
Hadley's POV
I'd woken up early which was rare for pretty much anyone on the Isle which meant that everything was unusually quiet...the Slop Shop was shut and the markets weren't operating yet which allowed me to sneak silently and swiftly through the cramped alleyways and along the rooves of the buildings which cluttered the Isle of the Lost.
I checked over my shoulder one last time making sure I wasn't being followed which was unlikely at this time but you never knew before I jumped down off the building into a hidden part of the Isle that only me and one other person knew about and I found him already waiting turning around once he heard me drop down and he had that self-assured smirk on his face that was always present.
"Hiya" he spoke...his thick Scottish accent making butterflies flutter in my stomach.
"Hey" I smiled walking over and crashed my lips against his, his right hand came up and cupped my cheek kissing me back as he shoved me back against the wall as my hands snaked into his hair pushing the pirates hat off his head in the meantime before we finally pulled apart for some much needed air.
"Mm nice to see yer too Hothead" I rolled my eyes at the pet name he liked to call me in order to make fun of my overheated temper which was an inheritance from my father which only Mal, our mother and Harry knew about.
"Of course it is, we both know I'm amazing" I replied and he laughed letting his head fall back as he laughed before I felt his hand and hook on my waist as he leaned in again. "This is so wrong..." I moaned out between his kisses. "...we shouldn't be doing this"
"But we are and ye like it" I rolled my eyes at him running my hands through his hair again yanking at it pulling his head back watching him smirk at the action as his hand grabbed tighter around my waist. "Jump" he told me warning me as he lifted me up with one arm with me jumping wrapping my legs around his waist as he pushed me against the wall once again as our lips molded against one another's slyly reaching my hand into the pocket of his leather coat pulling out the golden pocket watch.
"Looky, looky" I smirked waving it in front of his eyes but then I saw the time. "Oh shit" I let my legs drop letting my heavy combat boots hit the ground. "I'm so late" I let him go pushing him away as I made my way to the fire escape.
"Wer yer going?" he whined clearly not understanding.
"I'm late" I grabbed the rungs on the fire escape.
"Fer what?" I smirked back at him.
"Reality" I laughed before I climbed up disappearing over the rooves, what Harry and I were doing went against everything we were told and how we were supposed to feel, we were supposed to be enemies...two sides of a complete different coin and it should've been enough to avoid but Harry had always gotten underneath my skin with the playful, smart-ass flirty comments towards me whenever our turf wars happened and eventually I fell for it.
No one dated on the island, it just wasn't an Isle of the Lost custom and although the villains had children a lot of us didn't even know who our other parents were...Mal and I were the only exception that I knew of of knowing who both our mother and father was.
I smirked when I saw Mal tagging our 'Long Live Evil' tag on a wall along with our mothers outline, I looked at the gap in the rooves and my smirk widened as I took off at a run and flipped off the end landing and rolled back onto my feet next to my sister.
"We doing this or not?" I smirked when she turned to me putting the last final touches to her tag before we fist bumped.
[...{Italic: Mal, Hadley and/or Evie} {Italic Bold: Jay, Carlos} {Italic Bold Underlined: All}...]
"They say we're trouble, they say were bad, they say were evil that's makes us glad" we sang shoving past a couple of other VK's.
"A dirty no good down to the bone" we heard Jay start looking up onto one of the rooftops as he climbed down the fire escape ladder. "Your worst nightmare, can't take me home" I smirked at him as Mal and I continued on making our way through the market.
"Misunderstood!" we all yelled out right as Mal and I met up with Evie. "Mirror, mirror on the wall who's the baddest of them all...welcome to my wicked world...wicked world" we all met up...us girls and Carlos and Jay...our gang. "I'm rotten to the core, rotten to the core" we pushed the gate aside and entered the laundry area where everyone on the Isle got their clothes washed. "I'm rotten to the core, core who could ask for more...I'm nothing like the kid next like the kid next door" I shoved one of the workers making him fall over and laughed as we made our way through causing mischief on our way. "I'm rotten to the...I'm rotten to the...I'm rotten to the core" I jumped through the clean laundry getting them all dirty again from the mud on my boots before I jumped out ignoring the looks and glares as I laughed picking up some metal poles just like the others and we started hitting them against the metal buckets and fences as we ran down the alley ways.
"Call me a schemer" I sang smirking throwing Mal a purple spray can.
"Call me a freak" Mal sang using it to spray an 'M' on a clean sheet.
"How can you say that, we're just unique" we sang as I quickly used a blue spray can and painted a 'H' beside it before we smirked and pulled it aside.
"What...me a traitor...ain't got your back, are we not friends what's up with that?" I overheard Jay sing.
"So I'm a misfit...so I'm a flirt, I broke your heart I made ya hurt" I smirked at Evie as we all moved towards the balcony.
"The past is past, forgive...forget" I watched Carlos sing as he jumped over the tables kicking baskets and knocking an apple cart over before he jumped on a wagon to get away from a woman scolding him but he threw straw in her face making me snigger. "The truth is-"
"You ain't seen nothing yet!" we all yelled out.
"Mirror, mirror on the wall who's the baddest of them all...welcome to my wicked world...wicked world!" I laughed singing as we watched the boys below with Jay swinging on a beam while Carlos pulled it around.
"Come on!" we all yelled out running for main street dancing as we went gathering a crowd of other VK's who joined. "I'm rotten to the core, core...rotten to the core, I'm rotten to the core, core who could ask for more I'm nothing like the kid next, like the kid next door...I'm rotten to the, I'm rotten to the...I'm rotten to the core" we finished dancing and Mal quickly stole a lollipop from a young kid and we all laughed but then I saw our mothers 'knuckleheads' as she loved to call them and everyone but us scattered getting as far away as possible.
"Hi Mom" Mal smiled turning around to face our mother.
"Stealing candy Mal?" Mom asked her and I frowned. "I'm so disappointed" I scoffed since what else was new.
"It was from a baby" Mal deadpanned holding it out to her always seeking our mother's approval something I'd given up on years ago since no matter what I knew my mother would always be disappointed in me...I've never been the daughter that she wanted and is why I'd never even got a portion of her name like Mal had instead being named closer to our father who our mother despised meaning she despised me.
"That's my nasty little girl" Mom smiled making my frown deepen even more especially as she snatched it out of Mal's hand and spat on it then pressed it under her armpit. "Give it back to the dreadful creature"
"Mom..." Mal whined but I just raised an eye since who was she kidding our mother couldn't stand anyone besting her even if that was her own daughters stealing some stupid piece of candy.
"It's the deets Mal that make the difference between being mean and truly evil" I rolled my eyes. "When I was your age I was cursing entire kingdoms" Mal and I both said the last bit along with her having only heard it a thousand times. "You...walk with me" I glared as she wrapped her arms around Mal and led her away and I could feel the awkward stares from the three behind me that they always gave me when my mother blatantly ignored my presence and favored Mal so I turned around and glared at them which made them avoid eye contact. "See I'm just trying to teach you the thing that counts...how to be me"
"I know that" Mal nodded. "And I'll do better" that was the difference between us, I didn't care one bit for our mother's approval as well as I didn't resent our father for leaving our mother and sought him out as soon as I was old enough and had secretly been visiting him throughout the years behind Mal and our mothers backs, I was good a hiding things from my family.
"Oh!" Mom suddenly exclaimed and I jumped a little. "There's news I buried the lead...you five have been chosen to go to a different school..." I raised an eye in question since what other school, there was only Dragon Hall which is where we were already attending, The Witch School and Serpent Prep which is where our arch enemies attend. "...in Auradon" Evie, Jay and Carlos tried to escape but mothers knuckleheads had already anticipated this and stopped their escape.
"What?" Mal demanded holding out her hand stopping their continued attempts to escape. "I'm not going to some boarding school filled to the brim with prissy pink princesses"
"And perfect princes" Evie smiled stepping up beside Mal gushing over the thought of the princes, Mal raised her hands questioning her. "Urgh" she quickly added seeing Mal's disgust.
"Yeah and I don't do uniforms" Jay added. "Unless it's leather, you feel me" he laughed but I shook my head at him.
"I read somewhere that they allow dogs in Auradon, Mom said they're rabid pack animals who eat boys who don't behave" Jay snuck up behind Carlos and barked making the youngest of us jump ten foot.
"Yeah Mom were not going" I finally spoke up keeping the recoil off my face hating to even call this woman my mother since she didn't act like one.
"Oh your thinking small pumpkin, it's all about world domination" she argued before looking at her goons behind us. "Knuckleheads!" I sighed sharing a look with Mal. "Mal!" Mom sang walking back towards our home...Bargain Castle and rolled my eyes at the non-inclusion and watched them all rush after my mother making me once again the only one not absolutely afraid of her but I knew there was no way I was getting out of this which meant...I was finally leaving the Isle but knowing our mother she had a plan and who knows how long it would take which meant...I don't know when I'd see Harry again.
I sighed heading inside quickly before I endured her wrath since although I wasn't afraid of her that didn't mean I'd be willing to put myself through what our mother likes to call punishment.
"...find the Fairy Godmother and you will bring me back her magic wand" I frowned hearing my mother's words as soon as I stepped inside seeing her sitting on her throne. "Easy-Peasy" I rolled my eyes.
"What's in it for us?" Mal demanded.
"Matching thrones, hers and hers crowns"
"I think she meant us" Carlos argued gesturing at the rest of us but our Mom just gestured Mal towards her.
"It's all about you and me baby" I glared since what else was new, I knew Mal was the daughter she'd always wanted, I'm too much like our father for my mother's liking so I left the room not wanting to hear anymore and went to my room throwing what little belongings I had stuffing them in my bag before I left Bargain Castle making my usual way along the rooves, I had to say goodbye to Harry.
I made my way to the borderline between our turf looking around since we usually stayed away from our own areas but I walked through the pipe snagging a hat off a table ignoring the glare from the vendor pulling my hair up underneath it glaring since I did not look flattering in a pirates hat but I couldn't risk being seen here and knew I had to get back soon but luckily I knew around this time Harry was doing his rounds for Uma so I went to the dock markets looking for any sign of my eyeliner wearing...friend.
Just as I was about to give up I spotted the flash of silver and smirked rushing forward hiding behind a corner counting in my head the strides he was making hearing his heavy boots and the rattling of the chains around his waist and smirked one last time before I reached out grabbing a hold of his hook pulling him into the corner hearing him draw his sword and felt the sharp tip press into the flesh of my neck.
"Easy Hook, we both know ya love my pretty face" his eyes softened.
"Yer should know never to sneak up on me"
"You love it, I keep ya sharp" I smirked.
"What are yer doing here, this ain't yer turf?"
"I had to see you"
"Why?" he asked with a cocky smile and I sighed lowering my hands.
"I'm leaving Har"
"Heh?" he asked quirking an eye at me and I sighed once more.
"We're...we're going to Auradon, Mal...Jay...Evie...Carlos, and me" I explained and he stepped back putting distance between us. "I don't want to go-"
"So don't"
"I don't have a choice, my mother-" I argued and his smirk turned into a glare.
"So go...what do I care" he went to walk away but I caught his arm.
"Harry wait-" I was cut off when I felt my back hit the wall behind me with his hands around my throat squeezing hard. "Harry-" I breathed out around his hands seeing the frantic look in his eyes...this isn't the first time I've been in this position with him and I doubt it would ever be the last, everyone questioned Harry's sanity especially when he had his episodes like this.
"Yer wanna leave me?" he asked his eyes hardening even further.
"I don't want to, I have to" I choked out.
"Then leave, don't expect me to be waiting fer yer when yer come crawling back" he let go after shoving me back against the hard brick wall, I ignored the pain that shot through my back as I looked at him...tears in my eyes before I sighed.
"Bye Harry" I spoke then took off back towards Bargain Castle seeing that I was just in time for the limo that would take us to Auradon, I pulled the pirates hat off my head looking down at it before I threw it aside and walked over to the limo throwing my bag into the back where the rest of them were throwing their stuff then walked over towards the open door turning feeling a pair of eyes on me seeing a pair of blue eyes that I loved so much before I got in the limo with Mal following behind me and we were off.
Our eyes all fell on the array of food and sweets that we'd only ever seen in books and on the TV, I sighed shaking my head when Carlos and Jay started fighting and pushing each other out of the way of what looked good for them while I reached in and grabbed these little red sticks and bit in cautiously but instantly fell in love and grabbed more from around the boys fighting.
"You're looking a little washed out, let me help you out" Evie spoke up and tried to apply blush to Mal's cheeks.
"Ew, stop!" Mal spat swatting her hand out of the way. "I'm plotting"
"Well it's not very attractive" Evie remarked making me smile still enjoying my sweet snack, Evie was eating this little blue crystal rock candy thing.
"Oh!" Carlos suddenly said making me turn to see he'd bitten into a new type of sweet. "These...it's salty like nuts but it's sweet like I don't know what" he took another bite.
"Let me see" Jay said and Carlos opened his mouth showing him his half chewed snack making me pretend gag before Jay snatched the other half of it out of his hands and tossed it into his mouth right as I heard something behind Evie, Mal and I and saw the black screen drop and that we were driving straight towards the bridge that once connected the Isle to Auradon but it was destroyed by King Beast.
"Look!" I exclaimed and they all turned seeing that we were indeed driving straight for it.
"It's a trap!" Carlos added and we all screamed cowering into each other waiting for the car to go diving into the shark invested water below but nothing happened. "What just happened?" Carlos asked as we all stopped our pathetic screams and looked up seeing a golden light as the car continued to drive forward with some type of bridge materializing out of nowhere and we looked out the back window seeing our home disappearing in the distance.
"It must be magic" Evie gushed.
"Hey did this little button just open up the magic barrier?" Mal asked the driver.
"No this button opens the magic barrier" he replied holding up a gold remote. "That one opens my garage" he nodded at the remote in Mal's hands. "And this button..." he reached for a button on the roof and the screen between us and him closed once again.
"Okay" Mal smirked turning to us. "Nasty...I like that guy" I chuckled softly before I turned back out the back window with the Isle nothing but a speck in the back window.
'Bye Harry' I whispered in my head before turning away we continued on.
