Jack closed the final mission report on his desk and signed it off, he'd been working through his in-tray all day.

"Walter"

"Sir?" asked Sgt Harriman

"I've finally done it. Do not put another mission report on my desk until Monday morning, is that clear?" ordered the General.

"Of course" he replied, hiding the two reports he had under his arm.

"I'll be back Monday, think you can handle things around here?" smirked Jack as he grabbed his jacket.

"Um"

"I'm joking Walter, if the world is ending, you can call me"

"Yes Sir" replied the hard working Sgt, how Colonel Carter puts up with him beats me he thought to himself.

"Sam!" yelled Jack as he let himself into his house.

"I'm in here" she replied as he headed towards his lounge.

"What on earth are you doing?" he asked as he sat down next to her.

"Pickles and ice cream" she mumbled between mouthfuls. "Want some?"

"Um no, I'm good thanks" he replied with a smile. "How was your day?" he asked as he gently placed a hand on her swollen stomach.

"Oh the usual, I sat down and then basically couldn't be bothered to move for the rest of the day."

"I think you can be forgiven considering you're nearly 9 months pregnant" he replied as he gave her a kiss on the cheek. The fact that Carter never stopped for anything wasn't lost on him but he decided not to rile his heavily pregnant girlfriend at this time.

"You smell" she said as he tried to snuggle into his side.

"Gee thanks" he grinned as he stood up, "guess that's my cue to take a shower then! Care to join me?" He asked with a smirk on his face.

"Nope, I'm good," she replied between mouthfuls of ice cream.

"This complicates matters"

"He won't be there for long, our contact will make sure of that. We stick to the plan"

Jack was enjoying the sensation of the hot water caressing his weary body when the sound of his cellphone swiftly brought him out of his relaxed state.

"Is there no peace?" He huffed as he stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around his waist.

"Your cell is ringing" yelled Sam from his living room. Thanks he thought to himself, I totally didn't notice.

"O'Neill" he replied gruffly. Listening intently for a few minutes he sighed down the phone. "Is there really no one else?" A few more minutes passed before he spoke again. "Fine, I'll be there in the morning."

Snapping his cellphone shut he quickly got dressed and headed back to the living room, slumping down beside Sam. She could tell from his body language she wasn't going to like what he had to say.

"Was that work?"

"Yep"

"When?"

"Tonight, I need to be on the last flight to Washington. I"m really sorry Sam"

"You could say no," she replied hopefully.

'We both know that's not true. I promise I'll be back as quickly as I can. Shall I call Daniel or Janet? They can come and keep you company?"

"You mean babysit me?" she replied with the tone of voice that made Jack realise he was not the General in their relationship.

"I'm sorry Sam" kissing her head as he got up to grab his bag, "I'll call you as soon as I land OK?" She hugged him tight before kissing him passionately.

"I'll miss you" she said as she looked at him seductively.

"That's so not fair Carter" he groaned as she lowered herself back down on the sofa.

"Come back soon" she replied over her shoulder as she tucked back into her ice cream.

You will send me to an early grave Carter he thought to himself as he headed out the door.

Flipping open his cell, Jack punched in a familiar number before jumping into the waiting car. "Hey, you free? I need a favour"

"I'm coming" yelled Sam as she heaved herself up off the sofa, whoever was at the door was certainly making sure she heard.

Opening the front door, Sam silently cursed her boyfriend. "Janet, what a surprise" said Sam about as sarcastically as she could manage. "Let me guess, Jack called you?"

"Hey, don't blame me" replied Janet holding her hands up in surrender, "I'm just doing as the General ordered."

"Really?" replied Sam, eying her suspiciously, "don't you mean Daniel?!"

"Well Jack called Daniel so yes I suppose so" she replied laughing, "either way I'm here so are you going to let me in or not?!"

Sam stepped aside and followed her friend into the kitchen.

"Did you bring ice cream?"

"Of course I did, are you going to share?" teased Janet as she held up the bag of snacks.

"Maybe" replied Sam noncommittally as she headed back to the couch, throwing her friend a grin as she went.

"There's someone else there"

"Doesn't change anything, we take her now as planned. Get ready, we move in 5"

Shortly after getting comfortable on the couch, Sam realised she wasn't going to be comfortable for long. Oh the joys of pregnancy she thought to herself as she slowly maneuvered herself back up to standing.

"You OK?" asked Janet as she watched her friend slowly weave her way to the bathroom.

"Unless you can stop this little monster bouncing on my bladder then no I'm not alright. Don't know why I don't just live in the bathroom" she grumbled in reply.

Turning around to greet Sam as she came back into the living room, Janet gasped in shock at the two masked men who stood before her.

"What the hell is going on here?" she asked as she slowly stood up

"Sit" ordered one of them as he lifted his arm to point a gun in her direction.

"Where is Colonel Carter?" asked the second man

"No idea" replied Janet without a hint of emotion. Unfortunately for Sam, a third masked stranger was standing by her front door, she almost walked into him as she came from the bathroom.

"What the hell" she gasped as he took her tightly by the arm and led her down to the others.

"We have her, let's go"

"What about the other one?"

"Bring her as well"

"What's going on here? Who are you?" yelled Sam. She didn't hear the answer, instead she felt a sharp pain across her temple and everything went black.

"Come on Carter, pick up" grumbled Jack as he stood waiting for his flight back to Colorado Springs. The trip had been a complete waste of time, apparently whoever he was supposed to meet had no idea there was a meeting. His secretary had looked at him like he was losing his mind when he'd explained he'd been recalled to Washington at short notice.

Snapping his cell shut and heading towards the boarding queue, he suddenly got an uneasy feeling that something wasn't right. Pushing those thoughts aside, he put it down to the fact he'd been up most of the night and vowed to drink a lot more coffee on the flight home.

Janet sat by Sam who was still unconscious on the floor next to her, she'd only just come round herself and was nursing a rather nasty headache. They'd been left in a small concrete room with only a tiny window too high up to look through but big enough to allow some light in. Since it was clearly daylight outside Janet assumed they'd either been out for a while or had been taken a lot further than Colorado Springs.

Resting her head against the wall, she sat back feeling helpless at their situation. With her hands tied behind her back she was completely unable to check on Sam or the baby and the thought of something happening to either of them was too frightening to comprehend, especially if all she could do was sit and watch. Finally, Sam began to stir herself and groaned as she moved her head around the room.

"Sam honey, talk to me, how do you feel?"

"Sore, why can't we be held somewhere that has carpets?"

"I'll make sure I request that next time" smiled Janet, "can you sit up?"

"I think so" replied Sam as she very slowly pushed herself up against the wall, "uh oh"

"What?!" asked Janet

"Laying down was nicer" replied a very pale Sam as she leant to the side and promptly threw up.

As soon as Jack was clear of the gate, he flipped open his cell and tried again to call Sam. At this point he knew something wasn't right, she hadn't even tried to call him back whilst he was in the air. Hanging up, he quickly dialed Daniel's cell and was relieved to hear him pick up almost instantly.

"Jack, thank god. Where have you been?" asked a clearly panicked Daniel.

"Woah Danny slow down, I've been in the air. What's going on? I can't get hold of Sam"

"That's the problem Jack, I can't get hold of Janet either"

"Get Teal'c and head to the house and wait for me, I'll be there in 30" ordered Jack as he hung up his cell.

Jack jumped out of his cab and tipped the poor driver to make up for his hassling to go faster the entire way. Nodding to Daniel and Teal'c he grabbed his key and let himself into the house. Motioning for them to take a look around, Jack slowly made his way through his house. At first glance nothing seemed amiss, if it wasn't for the melted ice cream tub in the living room he probably wouldn't have suspected anything was wrong.

"Find anything?"

"We did not O'Neill"

"Jack, this isn't good," said Daniel, clearly beginning to panic.

"Tell me something I don't know," he replied angrily. "Come on let's go, the sooner we're back at the SGC the sooner we can figure this out"

"Better?" asked Janet as she looked at her friend with concern.

"I guess" replied Sam wearily "but better out than in" she said with a small smile.

"I guess they must have hit your head pretty hard, you're starting to sound like Jack" replied Janet. Before Sam had a chance to respond the door to their room opened and two of the men from the house walked in carrying some water and food.

"Untie us please" asked Janet, "I need to be able to help her or we won't be much use to you"

"Do not speak" ordered the taller of the two as he bent down and cut their ties. The second masked figure hauled Sam to her feet and pulled her roughly from the room before slamming the door shut, leaving Janet to wonder what an earth was going on.

Sam tried to take in her surroundings as she was led down a narrow corridor, a few glances out the windows suggested that they might still be in Colorado but she suspected that was just wishful thinking on her part. She was led into another room and ordered to sit down in front of a small table. Shortly after sitting down, a new masked man walked into the room. Taking off his mask as he sat down, he placed his hands on the table in front of him.

"Who are you?" asked Sam

"We represent an organisation that merely wants what you already have" he replied, "so this can be done the easy way or the hard way Colonel Samantha Carter"

"I don't know what you want but I've nothing to say" said Sam as she folded her arms across the top of her bump.

"That might be how you feel now but I'm sure we can change your mind. Now, I want to know the technology behind the Prometheus"

"I don't know what you're talking about" replied Sam as she shrugged her shoulders.

"Is that so?" Standing up he ordered Sam to be taken back to their room, "let's see if you wish to talk in 24hrs"

Janet immediately stood up when the door opened and Sam was pushed back in, the man accompanying her picked up the remaining food and water and left, slamming the door behind him.

"Are you OK?" asked Janet as she checked her friend over.

"I'm fine, they didn't do anything"

"Sam" said Janet, a sudden horrible realisation dawning on her, "when was the last time you ate or drank anything?"

"Oh" replied Sam as she slowly slumped down against the wall, "I did think it was all rather easy when they said we'd talk again in 24hrs"

Janet dejectedly sat down next to her, knowing these people didn't need to lay a finger on Sam in order to hurt her.

"Don't worry, we'll figure something out" she said as she squeezed her arm, with a lot more conviction than she felt.

Jack wasted no time getting back to the SGC, striding into the briefing room he immediately had Walter running checks with local law enforcement and Daniel had been sent to check Sam and Janet's recent movements. Unable to stand still Jack paced up and down the briefing room, growing increasingly frustrated. Teal'c stood from the side and watched his friends' movements. When Walter finally reappeared Jack practically jumped on him for information.

"Give me something good Walter"

"I have some traffic camera footage for you Sir" replied Walter.

"Well, where is it Sargent?" asked Jack impatiently.

"They are sending it over shortly, General. I'll have it sent straight to your laptop"

Waving a hand, Jack dismissed Walter who almost turned straight into Daniel as he came running in. "News?"

"Just waiting for a plate check to come back on a van that's been spotted outside your house on multiple occasions over the last few weeks" he replied breathlessly.

"You're kidding me? How could I have missed that?" he replied as he slammed his fist down on the table in anger.

"You can't see everything Jack, whoever this is has made sure of that. The van was literally there a few minutes everyday at different times" Daniel's justification did little to calm Jack's anger.

"Get the local PD to find it on the traffic cameras from the evening Sam and Janet disappeared. I want to know where they went. Teal'c, get to the armoury. I'll meet you both topside in 30 mins"

"Jack, wait, it's nearly dark. Is now really the best time to be out searching for them?" asked Daniel.

"I don't care what time it is Daniel, I'm not leaving them any longer than I have to," Daniel nodded, realising he wasn't going to win this argument. Part of him was glad of Jack's stubborn streak, knowing that Janet was with Sam scared him and reassured him in equal measure.

"They could at least give us blankets" grumbled Sam as she tried to get comfortable and stay warm.

"Least you've got a mini oven in front of you" replied Janet, "I've got nothing extra here!" Sam smiled at her friend, "I'm grateful not to have been kidnapped on my own for once"

"You mean this is a regular occurrence for you?" ask Janet in mock horror.

"Well you know how it is, save the world a few times and suddenly everybody wants you" laughed Sam.

"Well I'm glad to see you haven't lost your sense of humour" said Janet, "although I've a feeling we're going to need it"

"Hey" replied Sam, putting her arm around her shoulders, "we will get out of this, all of us" she said as she placed her hand protectively across her stomach. Both of them settled down on the floor, quietly preparing themselves for a long night.

Despite the uncomfortable floor and the fact she'd struggled to stay warm, Janet woke up feeling as if she'd only just fallen asleep. Looking up at the tiny window she could see it was just beginning to get light outside. Glancing down at Sam who was still asleep, Janet quietly raised herself up to sitting position and leaned back against the wall. Sam would need to eat and drink today otherwise the situation they were in was going to get a lot worse. Closing her eyes she frantically racked her brains for how she could hide something for her if they took it away again.

"Jack, we've been driving all night, let's at least stop for a coffee" pleaded Daniel.

"Daniel Jackson is right O'Neill, we must stop and replan" agreed Teal'c. Jack once again banged his fist down although this time it was on the steering wheel of his truck. They'd been chasing false leads all night, whoever had planned this had made sure the route the van took was full of dead ends. Stopping to let Daniel grab some coffee for them all, Jack tried to think if there was anything they'd missed, one clue that would allow them to locate Sam and Janet. He couldn't help but think what would happen if they didn't find them sooner rather than later and the thought shook him to the core.

The sound of the door opening woke Sam up and she wearily rubbed eyes as she sat up next to Janet. Once again the men were masked and Sam couldn't help but think there was a reason behind that.

"Get up" the taller one ordered, pointing at Sam. Janet watched Sam struggle to her feet, a cold hard floor was certainly not kind on anyone, let alone a heavily pregnant woman. Sam stood up and swayed, instantly feeling lightheaded and Janet jumped up to steady her.

"She needs food and water" ordered Janet

"Then she'd better talk" he replied as they once again pulled Sam from the room and left a small amount of water and bread for Janet.

For once, Sam was grateful she was being held as she walked. She was struggling to stop the dizziness from overcoming her and she was pretty sure she wouldn't be able to stand up on her own at this point. This time the man who questioned her previously was already sitting waiting for her.

"Glad you could join me, please sit," he said, gesturing to the empty chair in front of him.

"Nothing's changed since yesterday, I don't know what information you expect me to provide you with" said Sam, trying her best to maintain her composure.

"Where are your ships?"

"There are no ships"

"How are they powered?"

"Fairy dust?" she replied, thinking how impressed Jack would've been with that response.

"Colonel, your disregard for your safety and that of your unborn child is quite frankly unbelievable. However, perhaps you'd be more keen to co-operate once your boyfriend and commander speaks to you."

Sam instantly looked up in shock at his words, watching as he pulled out a phone and dialed, Sam's heart leapt in her mouth.

"O'Neill"

"General O'Neill"

"Who the hell is this?" asked Jack

"I'm the one sitting opposite Colonel Carter" Shit thought Jack as he frantically tried to put his phone on speaker so Teal'c and Daniel could listen in.

"Quiet" he whispered to them both as he motioned to the cell phone.

"What do you want with Colonel Carter?" he asked calmly.

"Colonel Carter is being most unhelpful, therefore I thought I'd let you listen to me convince her to be of more use" Watching as he pulled out a gun and pointed it at her, he pointed at the phone and the gun and mouthed for her to speak.

"Jack"

"Sam," gasped Jack, "are you OK?" The sound of a gunshot rang out down the cell phone accompanied by a scream.

"God dammit" yelled Jack, "I swear to god if you lay a finger on her I will hunt you down"

"Then I suggest you tell her to cooperate"

"Sam, listen to me. Whatever they do or say, you know what to do, OK?" The sound of a dial tone nearly had Jack flinging his phone out the window of his truck.

"Daniel, find someone that can trace that number, we are ending this now"

Sam walked back into their room holding her arm across her stomach, her arm was in agony and she was starting to feel incredibly light headed for not having eaten or drunk anything in over 24hrs.

"Jesus Sam, are you OK?" asked Janet as she stood up in front of her. Sam waited until the door was slammed behind her before answering.

"I'm not sure I am" she replied before she passed out in Janet's arms.

"Sam, wake up. Come on Sam, open your eyes for me" asked Janet as she lightly fanned her face. Groaning, Sam's eyes fluttered open and swept the room frantically before finally settling on Janet's face.

"Hey" she whispered.

"Hey to you" replied Janet, "you had me worried for a moment there"

"What happened?"

"You don't remember?" asked Janet, concern shining through her eyes. "Aside from the fact your blood sugar levels must be through floor, they shot you in the arm"

"I guess I didn't tell them anything then" she replied with a slight grin. "Oh god" she gasped.

"What, what's wrong?"

"Jack! He heard them shoot me, I remember now"

"Well that's good news" said Janet, "he'll be even more determined to find you now"

"You mean us" Sam replied with a smile. Just then the door opened and a package was flung at them before it closed again.

"Thanks!" yelled Janet to the closed door, "oh thank god" she sighed as she opened the package.

"Here, drink this" said Janet, handing Sam a bottle of water, "they've given us some bandages for your arm as well, I guess they're not finished with you yet"

"Give me some good news Daniel" yelled Jack as they flew through traffic on their way back to the SGC.

"If you don't slow down I'll be giving you more than just news" Daniel shouted back, "I can't read my phone while you're throwing the truck around Jack"

Luckily for Daniel they pulled up at the SGC shortly after. Following Jack into the mountain and down to the briefing room, Jack had them reviewing security footage pulled up from traffic cameras and Daniel was tasked with tracing where the phone call came from.

"O'Neill, I believe I may have something"

"What is it T?" asked Jack as he peered at the screen in front of Teal'c. "Sonofabitch" he cried as he realised what they were looking at.

"Good news?" asked Daniel hopefully.

"Very" replied Jack, "those bastards swapped the plates over in the gas station, we've been searching for the wrong car"

"How's she doing?" asked Janet as she watched Sam rubbing her stomach.

"She?!" exclaimed Sam, looking at Janet in surprise.

"Oh god Sam, I'm so sorry. I totally forgot you didn't want to find out"

Sam smiled warmly at her friend, "don't worry, it's actually quite nice to know" she replied laughing.

"Still, what kind of Doctor am I if I can't keep a secret like that!" smiled Janet.

"Do you think Daniel and Teal'c are keeping Jack in check?" asked Sam as she took another sip of the water they'd been given.

"By check you mean getting thoroughly annoyed? Definitely! He really cares for you Sam, the way he looks at you, the way he is with you, it's special" said Janet as she leant back against the wall.

"What about you and Daniel? You kept that pretty quiet by the way and I've seen the way he acts around you, he's like a lost puppy!"

"Hey!" exclaimed Janet, giving her friend a gentle poke in the ribs, "he is kinda dreamy though"

"If you say so Janet" replied Sam, "how long do you think we've been here now?"

"We're about to start our second night, I just hope it's our last. Get some rest Sam, there's not much we can do, other than sit and wait"

Janet woke up instantly at the sound of Sam groaning in her sleep, it was now fully dark outside although having lost all sense of time, she'd no idea how long they'd been asleep. Checking her friend over she noticed the bandage on her arm had soaked through. "Dammit Sam" she muttered to herself as she looked round the room to see if there were any fresh bandages left. Sam continued to writhe and moan next to her, clearly in distress. "Come on Sam, I think you need to wake up" said Janet as she gently rubbed her back. Watching Sam's eyes flutter open and then close again, Janet cursed at their situation, come on Jack, she thought, Sam needs you.

"T, I want everyone geared up and ready to go in thirty. Daniel make sure the local PD knows where we're going and have them secure the area but I want the element of surprise OK?" ordered Jack. Daniel acknowledged Jack before picking up the phone to make the call.

"O'Neill, SG3 wish to join us" boomed Teal'c as he stepped aside allowing Colonel Reynolds to step up.

"Jack, I know this one's personal so I'll make it easy, you say it and we'll do it"

"Thanks Reynolds, I appreciate that. Have your team ready to go in civilian gear and meet us topside in thirty"

"Jack"

"What is it Daniel?" asked Jack as he set about checking his gear.

"Whatever we find in there, Sam wouldn't want you to act with your heart" Turning to face him, Jack's face was flushed and he was clearly angry.

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"It's not just Sam and Janet, Jack, it's the whole Stargate program that could be potentially compromised. You know she'd be telling you this if she was here" he replied. "It's not just you that stands to lose someone you care about either" Jack ran his hands through his hair and sighed, "I know Daniel, I know"

It didn't take long for Jack and his team to find the building they suspected Sam and Janet were being held in. Giving his orders, Jack made sure he had as many of the exits covered as possible, feeling there was nothing more he could do. He flicked on his radio to give the order to enter when his cell phone sprung into life.

"O"Neill"

"General, I suggest you order your men to stand down before something happens that you might regret"

"How the hell did you get my number?" replied Jack as he motioned for Daniel and Teal'c to stand down.

"I'll make this easy" said the voice on the other end of the phone, "you will come in alone and I'll ensure no harm comes to either woman"

"You mean further harm" growled Jack, "fine, tell me where to go"

"Jack, are you seriously going in there unarmed and on your own?"

"I do not believe this plan of action is wise O'Neill"

"Maybe but it's the only plan that doesn't involve anyone else getting hurt right now" Handing Daniel his radio and hand gun, Jack ordered Reynolds to wait for a signal.

"Daniel, keep your cell connected to mine and listen in" ordered Jack, "you'll know when you need to move"

Jack entered the building as instructed and shut the door behind him, he immediately felt the cold hard metal of a gun pointing at his head and he raised his hands slowly.

"Turn around and face the wall" instructed a voice from the dark. Doing as he was told, another man then stepped forward to check his body for weapons, Jack silently prayed they wouldn't check his chest pocket for his cell phone. Breathing a sigh of relief as they finished and pushed him forward he followed them along a corridor before he was pushed into another non descript room.

"Sit" ordered the man sat across from the empty chair. Doing as he was told, Jack sat down and waited to see what their next move was.

"Bring her now"

Turning around, the sight before him had Jack on his feet in an instant before he was roughly pushed back down. Sam was brought into the room and was clearly struggling to remain conscious, her face was pale and her right arm was soaked with blood. It took all of Jack's resolve not to call her name but he knew what she needed right now was for him to remain professional.

"Since the Colonel here will not tell me what I want to know, perhaps you will"

"I highly doubt it, they don't tell me anything but you can try" replied Jack

"Where are the ships you command?"

"Nope, they didn't tell me that"

"What is the technology used to power them?"

"Ah wait, yes there was a memo on that one but I don't read my memos"

"Very well" replied the man as he nodded to the two holding Sam. The guard holding her right arm clenched his hand around her bandage and squeezed tightly causing Sam to cry out in pain as her knees buckled beneath her.

"Now, let's try again. Where are the ships?"

Anger radiated from every corner of Jack's body, he desperately wanted to reach out to Sam and hold her tight in his arms. He frantically tried to come up with a sign to get the others in the building that wouldn't compromise Sam, looking back at her, he was pretty sure she'd passed out, he certainly hoped she had as he didn't want her to hear what he said next.

"You realise I'm only here to make sure she doesn't give you anything? I couldn't care less what happens to her"

"You think I'm supposed to believe that?" he replied.

Jack shrugged his shoulders in response, "doesn't matter to me whether you do or not. All I care about is that you don't get any information"

"So it won't matter if I do this then?" asked the man as he drew his weapon and pointed it at Sam.

"No" Jack grimaced, "but my men have been instructed to breach this building if I don't come out with Colonel Carter and Doctor Fraiser in the next few minutes. So I suggest you use your time left wisely"

"You're foolish to think you have any control over this situation General, so I'll just have to show you who does"

Jack watched as he lowered the gun towards Sam's abdomen and his heart dropped.

The sound of gunfire through Daniel's cell was enough for him to give the signal to move in, looking at Teal'c he prayed it wasn't too late.

Jack stood up and threw himself across the table at the man pointing the gun at Sam, as he made contact with him the sound of gunfire filled the air. They tangled on the floor as they both fought for control, fortunately for Jack the man clearly had no experience in hand to hand combat and he disarmed him swiftly before ensuring he wouldn't be getting up in a hurry.

Turning round to face Sam, Jack could only pray the shot hadn't met its intended target. Sam was on the floor with one of the guards lying on top of her, the other stood in the corner, waiting for Jack to make his move.

"Easy way or the hard way" growled Jack, raising his gun at the guard. "Sit down where I can see you" ordered Jack, relieved that he was able to finally get to Sam.

"Daniel, find Fraiser and get her here" Jack yelled without pulling his cell from his pocket. Fearing the worst, Jack carefully lifted the guard from Sam and was momentarily relieved when he realised the guard had taken the bullet and not Sam.

"Sam wake up please" pleaded Jack as he gently felt for a pulse. She momentarily stirred but otherwise remained still. Jack, fearing the worst, tried his usual approach of ordering her and when she still didn't move he really began to lose it.

"Daniel! Where the hell are you?"

"Jesus Jack give us a minute, we had to find Janet as well" replied an exasperated Daniel as he came running in with Janet and Teal'c not far behind.

"You OK Doc?" asked Jack as he stood back to give her space.

"I will be when we get Sam out of here" she replied as she knelt down by her side. "She needs something to bring her blood sugar up before we can move her, Daniel find me anything sweet and some water please"

"Teal'c get these guys out of here and call the SGC, I want transport for Sam and the Doc as soon as you can"

"General, put your jacket under her head and help me lay her on her side" ordered Janet. Doing as he was told, Jack silently prayed that everything would be OK. Sensing his distress, Janet placed a hand on his arm, "Sam's as tough as they come General and I've no reason to doubt that the little one in there will be equally as strong" Before Jack had a chance to reply, Sam began to stir between them.

"Sam, it's Janet, open your eyes for me. I'm going to sit you up in a minute so you can have something to eat OK?"

"Has Jack found us yet?" asked Sam, with a confused look in her eyes

"Sam, I'm right here" replied Jack, as he moved down closer to her face.

"Hey" she whispered.

"Hey back at you. How are you feeling?"

"Better for seeing you" she replied, smiling warmly at him.

"Jan, will this do?" asked Daniel as he came back into the room, "it's all I could find"

"Anything's better than nothing" replied the Doctor as she took the cereal bar and gave Daniel a quick kiss.

"Jeez get a room" muttered Jack as he watched Sam smirking on the floor.

"Very funny General" huffed Janet, "make yourself useful and help me get Sam up" Between them they lifted Sam into an upright position, resting against the wall.

"OK Sam?"

"Just give me a minute Janet, I need the room to stop spinning" she groaned as she closed her eyes.

"I know honey but you really need to eat something before we move you, it will help I promise" Sam nodded and took the bar from Janet, she started to take small bites but the colour of her face suggested she wouldn't be eating much of it.

"Jack, we need to get her out of here, I suggest we go now and deal with any issues if they arise on the way to the SGC. Have a med team standing by topside with everything I need please"

Jack grabbed Daniel's radio and relayed the message to Colonel Reynolds, "give the order and we'll be ready Doc"

"Teal'c can you carry Colonel Carter?" asked Janet as she took the barely eaten cereal bar back from Sam who had closed her eyes again.

"I would be honoured" replied Teal'c as he moved towards Sam. Jack followed his team and Janet out towards the waiting truck and instructed Reynolds to await the local PD to take over the scene although he gave specific instructions to have those responsible sent to the SGC.

"Daniel, T, you go ahead and make sure everything's ready, Janet will stay with Sam and I'll drive them" ordered Jack after Teal'c had placed Sam in the back of the truck with Janet beside her.

"Ready Doc?" asked Jack as he jumped in the driver's seat, glancing back at Sam he just hoped they weren't too late.

"Janet"

"I'm here Sam, what's wrong?" asked Janet looking down at Sam with concern who was laid out across the back seat with her head in Janet's lap.

"Something doesn't feel right...oh god" she groaned, curling up in pain.

"What? What is it?!" yelled Jack frantically from the front.

"Sir, I need you to concentrate on getting us back as soon as possible" ordered Janet before turning her attention back to Sam.

"Fine but tell me what's going on," shouted Jack.

"I think she's gone into labour"

The rest of the journey back to the SGC was a blur for Jack, he did the only thing he had any control over, he concentrated on getting Sam back to the SGC as soon as possible.

As instructed, a medical team was waiting at the entrance to the mountain. After pulling up as close as he could, Jack jumped out to help Janet get Sam onto the gurney and then stood back as he watched them work. The last words he heard before watching Sam disappear would haunt him forever.

"I want her prepped for surgery immediately"

As per usual, the remaining members of SG1 held their vigil outside the infirmary, awaiting news of their stricken team member's condition. Unable to find the words to console Jack, Daniel settled for keeping him supplied with coffee although most of the cups went untouched, Daniel knew Jack appreciated the gesture even if he didn't show it. Finally, Janet appeared at the infirmary doors and all three men were immediately right in front of her.

"Calm down gentlemen, Sam is going to be fine"

"Oh thank god" replied Daniel as he sat back down. Janet looked at Jack, his face still unreadable.

"Want to come and meet your daughter Sir?"

Not able to form a sentence, Jack nodded and followed Janet into the infirmary. She led him into an isolation room and he was momentarily taken aback by the sight of Sam laying in the bed, pale and hooked up to machines.

"Don't worry, she's just resting. I'm confident she'll make a full recovery but you'll be doing the hard work for the next few weeks" grinned Janet as she led him over to a small makeshift cot.

"Here she is General" said Janet as she lifted her up and placed her in his arms.

"She's perfect," he whispered.

"That she is," replied Janet softly, "mind if I send Daniel and Teal'c in?" Jack nodded, not taking his eyes off the tiny bundle in his arms. Walking over to Sam, he carefully sat down on the bed next to her.

"You did good Carter, she's perfect"
