Author's Note: I'm back with a new Martha story here, and another one sitting in the wings! Holy crow, it's been almost 9 years since I worked on Martha, and that was never the intention. Hopefully I am not too rusty! Please read and review!
Disclaimer: I do not own the original characters to the Twilight Saga. They all belong to Stephenie Meyer. The only character I own here in Martha. I also am using part of a scene/dialogue from Breaking Dawn in this story. I have marked where that part is in the story, and included where to find it in the book. Chapter One
Martha's POV
I kept my distance from the make-shift hospital that we had made for Bella in the main part of the house. It wasn't that I couldn't stand to be around sick people, but I couldn't bear to be around Edward right now. I couldn't stand seeing my favorite brother in so much pain.
Edward and Bella had been married a month ago, and had taken off to Isle Esme for their honeymoon. Everything had seemed great. Edward and Bella were happily married, and when they came back from their honeymoon, Bella was going to be turned into one of us. Edward would have the love of his life forever, and Bella would get her wish to be a vampire. It was a win-win situation.
Except Edward and Bella had a "traditional" honeymoon, including having sex. No one thought anything of it, more than Emmett making jokes before the honeymoon, and trying to start a betting pool for how quickly they would demolish Esme's house on the Isle. Then Edward called Carlisle in a panic. Bella, as impossible as it was, was showing all the signs of being pregnant!
Edward brought her home immediately, convinced that the thing inside Bella couldn't be good for her. After all, she was human, and the thing was half vampire! How could that be good for her? It would be like a rabbit carrying the offspring of a cougar.
It soon became clear that Bella's body was not compatible with the thing inside her. It should have been simple. Carlisle could take it out, and then we could get back on track with the plan for Bella to become one of us. Except Bella was making sure things would never be simple. Edward had told Bella that Carlisle would get that thing out of her, and she had apparently decided motherhood was for her, so she called the one Cullen she knew would be on her side, no matter what. She called Rosalie. From the very beginning, Rosalie had made herself the personal bodyguard to Bella and that...thing.
Every day that passed, Bella got sicker and weaker. It was killing Edward to see Bella suffering and being unable to do anything about it. That was why I couldn't be around Bella too much right now. I couldn't bear to see the agony that was filling Edward every day.
To make things even more interesting, Jacob Black, the boy who had fought for Bella's affections and lost, had found out. At first he had been pissed, but then the La Push Pack decided the thing in Bella was a violation of the treaty, because it was a danger. They wanted to eliminate it before it was a problem. Jacob hadn't liked that, as it meant killing Bella. He broke away from the pack, as had two others, Seth and Leah Clearwater. Now they were serving as protection detail from the rest of the wolves.
I came downstairs, absolutely starving, in time to hear Jacob talking to Carlisle.

"We went halfway to Seattle. There is no sign of the pack. You're good to go."
"Thank you, Jacob. This is good timing. There's much that we need."
Carlisle's eyes were black - which in my 215 years of living with him was something I had never seen before. He looked over at the cup of blood that Bella was holding tightly.
Yeah, that's right. The thing inside Bella wanted blood, just like us. This just further proved that this thing was more vampire than human. Like I said earlier, a rabbit carrying the offspring of a cougar.
"Honestly, I think you're safe to take more than three. I'm pretty positive Sam is concentrating on La Push."
Carlisle nodded in agreement, "If you think so. Alice, Esme, Jasper and I will go. Then Alice can take Emmett, Martha, and Rosa-"
"Not a chance," Rosalie hissed. "Emmett can go with you now."
"You should hunt," Carlisle said in a gentle voice.
His tone didn't soften hers. "I'll hunt when he does," Rosalie growled, jerking her head toward Edward.
Carlisle sighed, and I snapped as Jasper and Emmet flashed down the stairs. Alice and Esme just as quickly met them outside by the glass back door.

"Get over yourself, Rosalie" I growled.
Rosalie swerved to look at me with a hiss. She and I hadn't been getting along well since Bella came home, and I had sided with Edward on how everything should be handled.
"No one asked your opinion, Martha," Rosalie said.
"Carlisle is the coven leader" I growled, "Who the hell are you to tell him when you will or won't do what he says."
"Bella asked me to protect her, to do what's best for her and her baby, and that's what I'm going to do." Rosalie growled.
"Martha, Rosalie, please. We're all thirsty, and emotions are running high." Carlisle said, ever trying to be the peacemaker.
"Bella wouldn't know what's best for her if it hit her upside the head!" I yelled, "And don't for a second think anyone is fooled about your motivations here!"
"Martha, take a step back" Esme said, "Like Carlisle said, we're all on edge."
"What do you mean, my motivations?" Rosalie said, "My motivations are to protect this family. Including our new niece or nephew."
"That thing isn't our niece or nephew!" I yelled, "That thing is an abomination, and a danger to us and Bella! Hell, it's not even here yet, and it's already caused our 70-year peace treaty with the La Push wolves to dissolve! And since when do you give a damn about Bella? Weren't you the one who thought we should kill her once she found out about vampires?"
"Things have changed."
"Yeah, things have changed. Bella is pregnant, and you've always wanted a child." I growled, "I bet if Bella died, you wouldn't give a damn about her! I bet if Edward went back to the Volutri to be killed again, and actually succeeded, you wouldn't bat an eye! So long as that demon spawn made it out alive!"
"Martha, that's enough!" Esme said.
"How dare you?!" Rosalie yelled.
"How dare I? How dare you, Rosalie!" I yelled, "You can fool yourself all you want. You can say that you are here for Bella, and you want to protect your family, but the only thing you care about is that thing inside her. I've got a newsflash for you, Rosalie! Even if both Edward and Bella die and that thing makes it, you'll still never have a child of your own. You will still never be a mother!"
I heard everyone around me take in a deep breath as my words rang through the air. I glared at Rosalie, who looked torn between staying with Bella, running off to cry, and tearing me into campfire-sized bits.
I felt a strong hand grab me around the forearm, and looked to see Carlisle. He was absolutely fuming.
"You are coming with your mother, Jasper, Alice, and I to hunt." Carlisle said, softly, "Once our thirst is under control enough that we can limit the chance of an accident, you and I will be having a very long and very serious discussion, Martha Georgina Cullen."
"Carlisle, I-"
"I don't want to hear it! Go wait outside with Esme, Emmett, Jasper, and Alice. We'll leave for our hunt in a moment."
