As the clock struck midnight, a female with long brunette hair, dark skin and green eyes was sitting on a chair located on the veranda of her parent's house. The brunette adjusted her black framed glasses as she rested her back against the chair.

Putting one leg across the other, she looked up at the night sky and smiled halfheartedly seeing some stars across the sky. It was somewhat rare to see them in the city.

The brunette then whispered. "Is this what my life has become? I'm twenty-nine, single now and still live with my parents… Maybe Helia was right about me. I will be single for the rest of my life because I am the problem."

His name alone caused her to shed a tear and broke her heart. The brunette then thought. 'How did we reach this stage in our relationship? We went from saying meeting each other last year at the start of the pandemic was the best thing to ever happen to the other to regretting meeting each other now. Well he said he regrets meeting me. I don't regret meeting him.'

Flora reflected on the day they met, and it felt like her heart skipped a beat.

Flashback

Resting against an old grey Honda were twenty-eight years old twins Aisha and Flora. Aisha had long curly brunette hair, brown coloured eyes, dark skin and a slender figure. She wore a black mini skirt with a white blouse, black jacket and flat shoes.

Flora on the other hand had long straight brunette hair, slightly dark skin and green-coloured eyes. She was on the chubby side as she was almost two hundred and forty pounds and wore black framed glasses due to her near sightedness. She felt more comfortable wearing glasses than putting in contact lens each day.

Flora had on blue jeans with a black blouse and black flats. Her hair was caught into a low ponytail and revealed her double pierced ears that had silver earrings in each piercing.

Checking the time, Aisha mentioned. "So much for them starting at five."

"Did you really think they would have started the party at five?" Flora took out her phone to check the time. "It's almost six p.m. and it seems like rain will be coming soon."

"I just want this party to start, show my face for a bit before going on a date with Roy." Aisha, the older twin mentioned. "I am hoping he can finish his school project before the night done so the date can happen. We haven't gone out in weeks."

"Couple problems." Flora rolled her eyes. "I don't have that issue so can't complain."

"You might meet someone special eventually." Aisha smiled.

Flora shook her head. "I mentioned this earlier in the month. I have given up on ever finding love and accept that I was meant to be single. Can say I am okay with being single now."

"Who knows what can happen, though." Aisha said before she and Flora noticed several people leaving the police compound.

Flora indicated. "Looks like some people can't bother to wait and might be going home."

Her eyes locked onto a tall male with long blue hair, fair skin and blue eyes. He had on a dark blue shirt, blue jeans and black shoes.

'He's cute.' Flora thought. 'What am I thinking? For so many years I have been looking for the right guy. Someone that would love me for me. Someone that accept that I am not someone who is into dressing up in fancy clothes or make up like some other girls… Then again, I shouldn't be looking for love till I can first love myself. My self-esteem is low as well. So low in fact that I just told myself earlier this month that I am not worthy to be find love or have a family.'

As the group of six left the compound, a female with shoulder length blue hair, light skin complexion, blue eyes and wore black jeans with a white blouse came out a trailer and said to the twins. "Hello, you two. The party is about to start soon. It will be kept in the trailer due to scattered showers."

"Okay." The two replied as they headed into the trailer.

The party is being held for people apart of several youth clubs in the town of Magix who assisted the officers with giving out care packages in some violent and less fortunate communities when the pandemic started. It was the officers way of thanking the youths for helping out.

Entering the room, the twins saw a few people around a couple tables that had games.

Aisha went to the table that had a card game in progress with a few girls and two males.

Flora went to the table that had Dominos on it. Instead of playing she watched as four guys played.

After a few minutes two of the four guys left due to losing. Two guys came over to the table soon after. One happened to be the guy that Flora saw earlier and thought looked cute.

'When did he return? Thought I wouldn't see him again.' The brunette thought.

The male and his friend played one round before Flora got up and left the room. The loud music was giving her a headache.

Going outside, the female saw her sister and one of her friends communicating. The person, male happened to have short purple hair, slightly tan complexion and dark brown eyes. He had on a white shirt with purple jeans and black shoes.

Smiling, Flora gave him a side hug before saying. "Hey Riven. When did you reach here?"

"Not too long ago actually." He answered. "You alright?"

"Headache. The music inside was really loud."

The three communicated for a while before they saw several people coming out of the trailer with tables and games.

Flora noticing the same set of people playing domino before she left the room was carrying out the table they were playing on.

She told Aisha and Riven later before heading over to the table.

Standing beside the guy she thought looked cute, he asked her. "Ready to play?"

Shaking her head gently, Flora replied. "Nope. There is already four people playing. Will watch for now."

He then said something that the brunette found strange for her. "You look so beautiful under the moonlight."

Not sure if he was serious or joking, she still went ahead and replied. "Thank you."

"My name is Helia by the way." He held out his free hand for her to shake.

"Flora. It's nice to meet you." She shake his hand.

After that the two ended up talking for the rest of the night.

By the time everyone was ready to go home and shaking off some nervousness, Flora and Helia exchanged numbers.

End Flashback

After that day, the two went on their first date a week later. It was simple but sweet. Ice cream and just sitting and talking to get to know each other better. When the date ended, it led to a kiss under a streetlight.

Flora then looked back on when Helia had asked her to be his girlfriend and almost smiled. She had gone to the town where Helia lived. He had booked a room for the night at an inn. Once they reached their assigned room, he got down on one knee and asked the brunette to become his girlfriend.

She found it touching as this was the first time someone had ever been so romantic to her. Not even her first boyfriend was like this.

Flora happily agreed as she was starting to accept that this guy could really like her for who she is and maybe she wouldn't spend the rest of her life alone like she originally thought back in early July. Plus she really did find Helia handsome and sweet.

As weeks turned into months, the two were in a honeymoon phrase and communicated every day on the phone plus made plans to see each other at least once a week. Due to living in different areas of Magix, it was somewhat challenging to meet up every day. Plus while Helia was working, five days a week, Flora wasn't and was depending on her parents for funds till she got another job so she didn't have much to funds to see the male as much as she would have liked. A year ago the brunette was working while going to school to get a Bachelors Degree in Business. Before finishing school however, Flora had lost her job due to some miscommunication between her and a coworker. That coworker happened to be close to someone in HR and once the brunette's contract was up for review, HR told her it was time to go. After that it was difficult getting a job but thanks to Aisha and some people she knew, Flora was able to work some odd jobs.

When November of 2020 came around that's when the honeymoon phrase ended and the relationship was tested.

After November twelve, each week instead of doing their usual once a week meet up on Helia's days off he was always busy doing something. Sometimes he would be job hunting due to being tired of working at a supermarket that overworked and underpaid him.

Flora had no problem with that especially since she was job hunting as well. It did hurt the brunette however that weeks had pass and she hadn't seen Helia. Yet the male seemed to have no issue not seeing time with her.

When a month had passed Helia did something that greatly hurt Flora. Not only had they not seen each other in a month but he blocked the brunette from contacting him via calling and texting. He even blocked her from social media as well. Flora was hurt greatly and wanting to know what she did wrong, she went to one of his friends that lived near her and asked for him to reach out to Helia.

After three days Helia unblocked Flora long enough to explain that he needed space to figure out some stuff because he was going through some stuff. Helia even apologized for doing it and said that he wouldn't do it again. Yet that too was short lived as after the conversation he blocked her from reaching out to him till he was ready to talk to the brunette once more.

It took another week of Helia blocking and unblocking Flora before he confessed the real reason he blocked her from reaching out to him was due to the female wanting to talk to him multiply times each day. Flora admitted that she could tone down on contacting him as long as he stopped blocking her. Helia promised to do so and to do better since he could have done better. Helia even promised to use one of his days off before December ended to visit Flora. True to his word the male came over to visit the brunette New Year's Eve and they spent the time making up for lost time and being very affectionate.

Flora sighed as she looked up at the stars. "Him blocking and not wanting to see so much me was a sign of things to come."

Helia continued to block her for another three months siting he didn't trust Flora enough to not reach contact him so much even though she felt like she was doing better. Flora got upset with him doing that so much so that she said that she was done with the relationship a few times due to the constant blocking.

Finally in April the two had enough and Helia finally ended things as a couple but still wanted to be friends as he said he still wanted the brunette to be apart of his life. Flora, agreed to still wanting to be apart of his life but not to being his friend. The brunette loved him greatly despite being upset with how he went about doing certain things. Helia however said he felt like the relationship wouldn't have worked out due to him not being so affection and me wanting someone that showed a bit more affection. He also stopped blocking the brunette after some time and Flora did decrease on the calling as well as texting.

However from April, due to Flora constantly desire to still want to be with Helia and the male making it clear that he didn't want her as a girlfriend more but rather a friend with benefits till he found someone just like him to date, they got on each other nerves a few times.

"It got so bad that Helia even mentioned that he regretted dating me based on how much I kept on mentioning things he didn't like such as me quote on quote kept on asking what he found to be stupid questions, lacking confidence and wanting him to at least complement me once in a while instead of him only telling me what he disliked about me and only complementing me around his friends." Flora almost cried. "I wasn't expecting a fairy tale ending but rather someone that showed he wanted me and not contradicting themselves when it comes to what they want from me, unwilling to compromise on anything and wanting things to go his way or no way."

Saturday is when things finally came to an end between Flora and Helia. They had another argument and Helia blocked Flora once more to completely rid Flora out of his life. Flora still ended up having to reach out to the male. Not to beg for him to stop blocking her like previously but rather to give her back all the money he had owed her. At the start of the new year Flora had gotten a government job. She made sure to help Helia whenever possible. She gave him a laptop when he mentioned that he wanted to do coding and building websites. She also assisted when he went back to school and short of funds to get a certificate. Whatever he wanted, Flora would either buy it for him or give the male it as a gift.

As much as it hurt Flora to cut ties with Helia she had to do what was best for her. Helia had made it clear to her several times that he doesn't want to be with her romantically and only saw her as a convent friend.

She asked herself. "After he gives me back the money owed, is there a chance of us getting back together or even being friends… Doubtful. He still regrets dating me, still has me blocked me and I finally accepted that no matter what I am not the person he really wants to be in his life as a romantic partner or friend. At the beginning he was infatuated with me while I felt like I was in love with him. Once the infatuation wore off, I became someone that could only help him when he was in a situation rather than what I really wanted us to be which was someone he loved, cared for and respected."

Getting up, Flora saw a shooting star. She closed her eyes and spoke softly. "No more wishing on a star and hoping for a miracle. I have to put in the work and work on myself. I have lost some weight already and working on building up my confidence. I also know what I want to do with my life. It's a risk but nothing that's worth it doesn't come without risk. I also would like to become a mother and wife in the future. A great one in fact as well as create a company that makes all natural foods and products for people that care about the environment, wants to become vegetarians and have sensitive skins. So as much as I adore Helia, I will let him go. If we are meant to work out then we will meet again in time."

Flora walked back inside to sleep. She had work in the morning.
