Summary:

Langris is busy training and finding more about himself. Letters from Mimosa and Yuno cannot be handled at the moment. (companion to A Little Bit Lonely and Not Out Loud)

Letters from the Sky

Langris should have never told Finral where he decided to go for training. Finral never visited in person, but Finral left care packages for Langris and delivered letters from his pesky junior, Mimosa. Though Langris didn't mind the care packages as they had food and replacement first aid, the letters from Mimosa he could do without. After all, what was he supposed to do with her unnecessary but well-meaning care, if that was what it was?

It's been about a month since he started training and he received a care package (and a letter) once a week. Did his brother and Mimosa really think that he was incapable of taking care of himself? He was a 1st Class Senior Magic Knight and (temporarily) the former Vice-Captain of the ultimate Magic Knight squad. He was a responsible adult.

Langris scowled as he opened Mimosa's latest letter.

Vice-Captain Langris,

Hi! I hope you're doing well with your training. I can't wait to see what you learn. I'm sure that you're going to find some sort of amazing spells and techniques. We're doing well in the Heart Kingdom. I'm training with Queen Lolopeckha, Noelle, Nero, and Lady Undine! It's hard work but it's all very exciting. I'm getting the hang of the rune arrays.

I haven't heard from Yuno (but it's Yuno so I'm sure he became much stronger already!), but Captain Vangeance says that everyone in the Magic Knights is working hard to prepare for a possible invasion by the Spade Kingdom.

Remember to eat regularly. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner and healthy snacks between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner. And remember to get 8 hours of sleep. You won't progress if you're not taking care of yourself. I helped Finral with the care package for you, so I made sure to put some of your favorites in there.

Happy training,
Mimosa

Scowling, Langris folded up the letter and placed it in his pocket. Her letters were like being punched with care and affection and Langris couldn't deal. He sat on the ground in the mountain area where he decided to train. There were no people around as it was a high magic zone, but it was necessary to train on his own because his destructive Spatial Magic was too dangerous. He had to learn to control his powers more, so he won't hurt anyone that he didn't mean to hurt.

He stood up and went back to his training. If he could just get the hang of Mana Zone, he'd be one step closer to showing up Yuno and Finral.

Vice-Captain Langris,

I FIGURED OUT THE RUNES FOR TRUE PLANT MAGIC! And Guardian Gadjah says that my Magic Stage will rise after the training is complete.

I'm so excited! It was a lot of studying and hard work, but my healing has increased five-fold, Vice-Captain. I won't let anyone die.

I hope your training is going well too.

Yuno spoke to me. His training is going well too. He's always figuring out amazing spells. We're so lucky that he's in our squad. Yuno makes me want to work harder.

Remember to eat and sleep,

Mimosa

His routine became simple. He ate breakfast after waking up from his night's sleep, trained his endurance in the morning, took a break, ate lunch, spent the afternoon practicing Mana Zone, then ate dinner, followed by bathing and meditating to calm himself down at the end of the day. It was nice and quiet. The routine calmed him.

But sometimes it was too...still.

There were times that he missed the hustle and bustle of being Vice-Captain-heck, he even missed the buckets of paperwork. He missed having breakfast with Captain Vangeance and dinner with Letoile and David. He missed the spars with Yuno, even if he didn't miss Yuno's ability to irritate Langris on a regular basis. He missed Mimosa bringing him lunch with a smile and a mild threat that he had better eat everything on his plate.

Langris sat as he ate some dinner of beans and rice, rereading Mimosa's letters and the little notes Finral left with the care package.

Maybe he was a bit lonely. Just a bit.

Vice-Captain Langris,

We have a plan to face Vanica of the Dark Triad. It's a really good plan. With Noelle, Lady Undine, and Nero's help, I'm sure that we'll succeed. (I can't tell you the plan, but it's really good).

How've you been? I know that you've been eating. That makes me so happy! I was so worried that you would do that thing you used to do and go hours between breakfast and dinner without eating. (Please don't do that). You've been sleeping right? I had better not see rings under your eyes when we see each other again! I'll sic Doctor Owen on you.

Oh! Yuno sent a letter this time too. Please read it and not destroy it, Vice-Captain Langris.

Mimosa 3

Former Vice-Captain Langris,

I have gotten much stronger. The Golden Dawn has the lead in stars for missions. At this rate, I'll stay Vice-Captain when you return.

Yuno

"That absolute brat! The audacity," Langris said, raging after he read Yuno's letter, more a note with Yuno's terrible chicken-scratch handwriting that Langris could barely discern as the actual language. "He's such a rude little brat." Scowling, he folded Mimosa and Yuno's letters and put them in his pocket. "I'll show him. I'll show them both."

Between both Mimosa and Yuno, they doubted him-Mimosa doubted his ability to function as a human being and Yuno doubted his skills as a Wizard. He was going to show them both.

"How are you feeling?" Finral asked, softly.

Langris grumbled, as his brother sat next to him as Langris woke up from possibly overextending himself with training that caused him to pass out. "Fine."

"I suppose you don't want me to tell Lady Mimosa or Yuno this happened?" Finral asked.

Langris glared at his brother. Finral should absolutely not mention this incident to Mimosa and Yuno or Langers would never live it down, but Langris couldn't let Finral know that Langris cared what those two annoying juniors of his thought of him. He said, stiffly, "I don't care what you do."

Finral smiled gently at Langris. "You're lucky that this was the day that I dropped off your care package, Langris. Please take better care of yourself."

Langris snapped, "I am! I'm fine! I don't understand why people think that I can't take care of myself."

"No one thinks that," said Finral, using a tone that Langris didn't often hear from Finral, one that Langris called Finral's "Big Brother Voice." It was something that set off Langris, like so many other things about his brother. "Mimosa cares about you and so does Yuno. And Captain Vangeance and your squadmates. And me. Sometimes, you forget to eat or sleep or just rest and we don't want you to get hurt, that's all."

Langris scowled.

Finral ruffled Langris' hair and asked, "Should I take you to Doctor Owen?"

"No, Brother, I will be fine," said Langris, batting Finral's hand away. "Go back to your training."

Finral said, "Alright, but this better not happen again or I will tell Mimosa and Yuno."

"That doesn't bother me at all," said Langris, lying through his teeth.

And from the look on Finral's face, Finral didn't believe him at all either.

Langris said, "Before you go, I have messages for you to deliver."

Finral smiled. "That's good to hear, Langris."

Temporary Vice-Captain Yuno,

The squad better not have fallen apart while I was gone. I have gotten much stronger, so we will just see how far you progress, my upstart junior.

The Real Vice-Captain of the Golden Dawn,
Langris Vaude

Lady Mimosa Vermillion,

I am eating and sleeping properly.

Vice-Captain of the Golden Dawn,
Langris Vaude

The six months were up. He learned to produce Mana Zone with his destructive Spatial Magic and gained introspective realizations that people actually cared about his well-being even if he didn't want them to.

"Time to go home," said Langris, stretching, before he got on his broom to fly back to the Golden Dawn base.

(And if he couldn't wait to see everyone, then that was no one's business but his own).
