Chapter 1: The Boy Who Disappeared
"Oh, look! It's Rosemary Potter! The Girl-Who-Lived!"
'Here we go again,' thought six-year-old Harry James Potter, as he was forced to watch yet another crowd of well-wishers, hero-worshippers and so-called admirers of his twin sister fawn over her.
He knew why, of course, but that didn't mean he had to like it.
DD
Ever since they were babies…well, toddlers, Harry and Rosemary – or Rose, as even Harry knew his sister preferred to be called – had been as inseparable as one might expect of twins. In fact, the only reason the two were able to be told apart was because of Rose's long, reddish-black hair, while Harry had a hairstyle that made him look like his Dad, James.
They both had their Mother's emerald-green eyes, as well, but, after Halloween Night, when the twins had been fifteen months old, another change had taken hold, which made them look even more different.
As a result of a cowardly assault by the Dark Lord Voldemort – or He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named or You-Know-Who as most of the world called him, though Harry and Rose weren't afraid to say his name – Harry and Rose had been marked in different ways. In Harry's case, the attack had left him with a deep, lightning-bolt-shaped scar courtesy of a curse that had nearly blinded him, if not for sheer dumb luck causing Voldemort to miss.
Rose, meanwhile, had been left with a V-shaped scar on her forehead, as a result of apparently surviving the impossible, the Killing Curse, when Voldemort had tried to turn his wand on her. However, the monster had failed and, instead of killing the twins, he himself had been destroyed by a power that nobody seemed willing to admit they had no idea what it was.
As they grew older, despite the efforts of the rest of the world, Harry and Rose did realise what this power was, but the rest of the magical people of Great Britain were as ignorant as ever.
It got even worse when Albus Dumbledore – who was, in Harry's opinion, the stupidest, most-annoying, interfering old busybody he'd ever laid eyes on – let slip the existence of a prophecy and then, just because of her scar and the fact that scans revealed that Voldemort had cast the curse on Rose, he announced that Rosemary Lilian Potter was the Chosen One.
The Girl-Who-Lived, as people had already dubbed her.
After that day, life got difficult for the twins.
Oh, make no mistake, their parents tried to make things nice and normal, but with how often fans, hero-worshippers, newspapers – especially that insect, Rita Skeeter, who always seemed to get the drop on the twins and their parents – and, of course, Albus Interfering Old Goat Dumbledore kept butting in, normal soon became near-impossible.
DD
And now, as Harry watched while more and more loving fans and thankful supporters of his sister crowded around them as they tried to make their way through Diagon Alley, the raven-haired youth felt a familiar stab of anger well up inside of him.
The anger only increased when one obnoxious reporter suddenly barged past Harry, knocking him to the floor as he insisted, "Oi! Watch it, shrimp! If I miss this front-page exclusive of the Girl-Who-Lived, I'll sue you…whoever you are!"
Whoever.
You.
Are.
Those words burned in Harry's heart, making his anger even stronger; at the edge of his consciousness, he was dimly aware of his sister's presence by his side, mentally-speaking – thank Merlin for twins' connections – but, thanks to these crowding band of ingrates, the bond wasn't as strong as it usually was.
Mind you, Harry had often wondered if someone else was responsible for how weak his bond seemed to be with his sister, recently.
Oh…if he was right…why he'd…well, he'd…he…
As more idiots crowded around Rose, blocking Harry and Rose from each other's view, as well as the view of their parents, Harry tried to find the strength to move back towards his family, a part of him really wishing his Dad would have let his Uncle Sirius teach him some of those Black Family secret magics that Mum had said they weren't ready to know yet.
Gods, if he could get to those secrets.
If he had power…
BOOM!
Suddenly, even Harry was alarmed to hear a loud explosion rock Diagon Alley, accompanied by a bright flash of green light that rose high over the rooftops of Diagon Alley. As many of the idiots began running around like headless chickens, Harry was dimly aware of the green light overhead taking on a shape that, thanks to their parents' talks about the past, both Harry and Rose knew by sight.
A green-coloured human skull with a snake that coiled downwards and outwards from the mouth.
The Dark Mark.
Symbol of Voldemort's followers.
The Death Eaters.
As Harry tried to find his way back to his family, he instead found himself shoved and knocked aside, sending him careening into a display table outside one of the many shops in the Alley, just as several unintelligible voices began chanting, invoking spells that caused destruction to rain down and fill up the Alley.
Struggling to his feet, Harry winced as pain shot through his left-hand side; looking down, he saw a piece of wood sticking out of his abdomen, just inches from where his stomach was located.
Although that didn't stop the blood flowing.
As he groaned and sobbed through the pain, his anger only returned when he looked up just in time to see a band of robed wizards, whom Harry dimly recognised as Aurors, appear on the scene, only to have one command issued to them by whoever was in charge.
"Minister's orders: get the Girl-Who-Lived to safety!"
'Again with that stupid nickname!'
Rage burned in Harry's heart as he heard the world ignore the bleeding obvious, such as the Death Eaters, in favour of his sister's fame; at the same time, the young boy felt a whimper escape him as, when he tried to move, he found pain shooting through his body, mostly from the wood in his side, but also from where he'd landed when he crashed into the outside of the shop.
Through clenched teeth that he knew made him sound like his Father's least-favourite wizard, Harry lifted his head as he cried, "NO…PLEASE…I'M HERE! MUM! DAD! ROSIE!"
The only sound he got was a pop, indicating that the Aurors were gone.
They'd left him.
They'd forgotten about him.
And all because they'd rather focus on the Girl-Who-Lived, ignoring the bleeding obvious fact that she was a damn twin!
As rage bubbled up inside Harry's belly, he felt a roar of pure, unadulterated fury, as well as hatred, if not promises of retribution if ever he got the chance tear out of his mouth.
Seconds later, Harry's eyes widened when the next thing he felt was a biting wave of cold, which seemed to envelop him on all sides.
Looking up through his haze of pain, the young boy was momentarily confused to feel what seemed to be snow falling onto his face, accompanied by a loud, ominous rumbling and, curiously, what sounded like a Caterwauling Charm, which usually meant an unexpected, if not illegal Apparition had just taken place on a protected ground.
Before he had a chance to try and get away from the noise, however, Harry heard pounding steps, accompanied by what sounded like a woman's voice speaking from somewhere nearby.
"My God…a child? Get him inside, quickly!"
"But, my Lady…your Father…" argued a soft male voice, but Harry couldn't see who it was.
Indeed, he couldn't see much of anything, with how his vision was fading away…
"Don't disobey me! Do as I command; I will not allow a child to die out here in the cold, especially one who has managed to break through…"
Whatever else the female might have said was lost to Harry as darkness came to claim him.
The last thing he saw being a flash of gold, which seemed to take on a very unusual shape.
Namely a pair of weighing scales…

"HARRY!"
When Lily and James heard the hysterical screams of their daughter, both of them were on high alert, though not as much as when Rose Potter suddenly flew into their arms, sobbing profusely as she gasped out, "No…not Harry…not my big brother…please, Mummy…Daddy…say it's not real! Please say I'm having a bad dream!"
"What, sweet-pea?" asked James.
"Harry…he…he's gone!" gasped Rose, looking around the small room that they'd been brought to, apparently on the orders of the Aurors' bosses, while she gasped out, "He…he was just behind me…before those people crowded and…and the Death Eaters…and then…then…now…I can't…I can't feel him! Please! Please send someone! He…he's my brother!"
"Calm down, Rosemary," said Lily, intentionally using her daughter's full name, if only to show how serious she took this information, though, when Rose looked up at her mother, she saw tears threatening to fall from Lily's eyes as she gasped, "We…we'll ask one of…one of Daddy's colleagues in the…the Auror Corps to…to go and find your brother. It's okay…he can't be gone…he'll be back and…and then we'll hug and…and laugh and…and it'll all be okay."
"I'm afraid not, Lily."
Suddenly, both Lily and James looked up to see Albus Dumbledore walk into their recovery room.
When Lily saw the bloodstained robe, with a personally-monogrammed letter H, which looked like it was made from lightning bolts – a personal crest that Harry had designed when he first started drawing: oh, how he loved to draw – on one side, her resolve broke.
While the redhead sobbed profusely, holding her now-distraught daughter close to her, James Charles Potter glared daggers at Albus as he hissed through clenched teeth.
"I want the full Order on this, Albus!"
"We're rounding up the Death Eat…"
"Not those cowardly bastards!" snapped James, his eyes burning like the fires of Hades as he snapped, "My son! I want the full Order, the Aurors, the Unspeakables…hell, the risen dead if you need to! Just find my boy…whether he's alive or not…we should at least have the right to bury him."
Dumbledore just nodded, leaving the robe with the pain-infested family, before he turned and left the room.
DD
Once he was gone, however, Dumbledore sighed softly before he looked back to the closed door.
"I'm sorry, James, but someday, you'll understand that this was all for the Greater Good."
DD
Three days later, James Potter's world turned to ashes with the arrival of the morning paper
TRAGEDY STRIKES DIAGON ALLEY
GIRL-WHO-LIVED'S FAMILY GRIEVES FOR THE LOSS OF BARRY POTTER
An exclusive by Rita Skeeter
Even over the bullshit that James read from that poisoned quill of that sick bitch – whom he now swore he would discover her secret and use it to bury her – the roar of pain, loss, mourning and sorrow that tore out of both Lily and Rose's mouths was probably heard around the world.
As he scrunched up the paper, unable to read any more lies, James turned to his wife and daughter before, kneeling down, he embraced them fondly as he kissed both their cheeks before, burying his head against his loving daughter's darkest-coloured hair, he whispered to her.
"We will never forget him, Rosie! I swear it…on everything! If it's the last thing we do, we'll find him…dead or alive…and we'll bring him home!"
DD
"I…I…I'm…dead?"
"To them, you are," replied the whitish-blonde-haired woman, who'd been the same woman to find and rescue the boy known as Harry Potter from the icy coldness of the world outside.
Over three days, she'd healed his wounds – much to Harry's gratitude – fed him, re-clothed him and even helped him regain his strength; however, on the third night, the woman had come to the little boy's small chamber, fed him his evening meal and then showed him the evidence of what had happened after he'd left the British Isles.
Of course, learning that he'd somehow managed to Apparate to a hidden sanctuary located high up in the Karakoram Mountains was a shock to Harry, though he still thanked his rescuer for her assistance.
Even so, learning about his death, at least as far as the UK were concerned, left Harry feeling empty as he looked at one particular line on the page.
'It is a tragic loss,' said Albus Dumbledore, who had the misfortune of making the official identification of all that remained of Barry Potter, 'But this is just another example of how evil and twisted the Death Eaters are. Fortunately, we have Rosemary to act as the shining light in our world.'
'DUMBLEDORE!'
The word tore through Harry's thoughts as he looked at the paper before, scrunching it up, he tossed it at the nearest wall as he snapped, "That liar! I always knew he wasn't a good guy! He must have made this happen! It's not fair! They were my family! And now…they think I'm dead!"
"Indeed they do, young one."
Suddenly, Harry's head snapped up as he heard a new, male voice address him; when he also saw his rescuer bow down, so that she was kneeling before the newcomer, the little boy was shocked to say the least.
As for the newcomer, he was a young, white-haired gentleman whom actually looked much younger than he seemed, but, at the same time, he had an air of danger about him that told Harry straightaway that this was not someone you messed around with.
Looking to the gentleman, Harry gulped hard as he asked, "Who…who are you, Mister?"
Smiling at the boy's air of respect towards him, the stranger bent down before he offered a hand to Harry, who shook it as firmly as he could manage, even as the newcomer identified himself.
"My name is Maximus Drake, my young friend, and I have an offer for you…one that, just so you know, should you accept, will also wipe the slate clean with regards to my daughter, Artemis, saving your life from the icy cold out there."
So, here we have the first chapter and…wow, talk about different: Lily and James actually remember their lost son and now, they're determined to find him, dead or alive: kind of makes you wonder how they'll react when it happens?
Also, not that it needs asking, but what is that manipulative old fool up to?
And, now it seems he's risked tickling the sleeping dragon, what will happen when the old fool starts to feel the burn?
