Welcome to my second attempt at a NaruHina fic.

Summary: Naruto and Hinata (along with lots of other important characters from the Narutoverse) are students at Konoha International University. Both of them are young and lost in this new chapter of their lives until one day fate inexplicably brings them together. What will happen to these two young souls? Will they fall in love? Will they navigate their way through life? Guess we will find out. (This chapter is pretty mild but future ones will include smut, partying, violence and swearing, probably not until chapter 3 or 4 though, so if that's what you're here for, sorry for making you wait)

IMPORTANT: I do not own Naruto, it is owned by Kishimoto, this is just me having fun and being creative.

Chapter 1: I'm Glad Your Roommate Pissed You Off

Sweat was dripping off of his face, falling onto the hardwood court below him as he took a defensive stance, trying to determine what his opponent was going to do. They were in a largely empty gym, quiet except for the sound of sneakers squeaking against the floor and the melodic thud of a ball being dribbled almost rhythmically. This game was a long standing tradition amongst these two rivals who played against each other every week. Their competitions were always fierce but when the two weren't on the court, they were like brothers. But that brotherly love was not going to be of any help to the blonde right now, no, instead he was laser focused with the last point of the game on the line. The blonde's name was Naruto Uzumaki and he, like so many other boys his age, loved basketball. He was a student at Konoha International University and like his roommate whom he was playing against, he was fiercely competitive. His opponent on the other hand was Sasuke Uchiha, by all accounts, the complete opposite of Naruto. While his blonde counterpart was loud, reckless and usually never thought things through, he was much more calm, methodical and tended to always think three steps ahead. This was one of those times, he was dribbling the ball openly in his left hand, hoping that Naruto would try to steal it, well actually he knew that Naruto would try to, after all Sasuke was never big on hoping for things to happen. The blonde on the other hand was laser focused on the ball and once he saw it exposed, immediately lunged for it, only for his opponent to quickly crossover the ball to his other hand. Sasuke smiled as his friend fell for such a simple move and left him open to make a beeline towards the basket as he unceremoniously dunked it.

"And my winning streak continues," said Sasuke triumphantly as he held out his hand to help his friend up.

"Yeah I guess it does" replied the blonde as he stood up, "not like you used a cheap trick or anything to win".

"It's your fault for falling for it, after all your dad taught it to us when we were both little" he replied as he took a sip from his water bottle, being understandably dehydrated after their hour-long bout.

"Whatever, teme" replied the blonde as he sat on the bench and started taking off his sneakers.

"Make next time you can actually use your brain and make this challenging for me" said Sasuke, never being one to admit that his victory had only come from luck, after all Naruto despite being a bit dense was one of the best ball players on campus.

"Oh don't worry about that, next week, you're winning streak ends" replied the blonde with his usual optimism as both men exited the building.

"Wanna head back to the dorm?" Sasuke asked as he zipped up his jacket and felt the weather drop by 10 degrees as they got outside.

"Nah I think I'm gonna take a walk and get some fresh air" he replied, "You go on ahead".

"Alright, whatever dobe" responded Sasuke to his roommate and best friend as they left in separate directions.

It was a crisp fall evening and Naruto was enjoying the cool evening breeze as he walked across the campus. He had been at Konoha International for a month now and still had no clue what he was doing. He didn't know that many people on campus but he was glad that some of his friends from high school had come with him. There was his roommate Sasuke who had been like a brother to him since they were both little, his friend Sakura who - despite always harassing him - he loved like a sister and Shikamaru who had helped him cheat on more than a few tests back in high school. There had been more people who he knew but he wasn't really that close with them but nevertheless he was happy with the friends he had.

Naruto enjoyed these walks of his, the campus was generally empty since most students were either busy partying or in their dorms so he could always get some peace and quiet to reflect upon things. He had not had an easy life by any means, his parents had died in a car crash when he was little and for some reason people had blamed him for it. Aside from a few of his friends, no one wanted to even be seen with him and he spent a large part of his childhood alone and isolated from much of the world. Back then, the only adult who had shown him compassion was Iruka Umino who had been his teacher when the accident happened. Iruka had always been nice to him and on his seventh birthday, he adopted Naruto and gave him the parental love which he had been longing for. He would often find himself thinking about what life would be like if his parents had been alive, his father was a politician and his mother had run a charity, from what he heard they were both great people. Maybe that's why he was so close with Sasuke, he had also lost his parents during a home invasion, an incident that by all accounts should not have happened. His older brother Itachi, who by all accounts was a brilliant child, had gotten involved with some criminal organization that resulted in a target being placed on his family's back. Neither Naruto nor Sasuke, experienced a traditional family life but yet they managed to have relatively happy childhoods. In fact, Sasuke became an almost permanent fixture in Naruto's house and Iruka was always more than happy to have him over, even getting a bunk bed for Naruto's room for that exact reason.

Back in the real world, Naruto was so lost in thought that he didn't realize that he had been walking for almost an hour and that he was walking right into the path of a very cold and frustrated girl. By the time he realized, it was too late and he bumped into a blur of blue and lavender, no not a blur, it was a girl, a girl who looked somewhat familiar. This was Hinata, a girl who had been in his class since he was little but someone he didn't really know much of other than her name. But even though he didn't know her well, his father had taught him better than that and Naruto immediately started apologizing to her.

"I'm so so sorry" he said "I was lost in thought and the campus is usually empty at this time so I wasn't paying attention and I accidentally hit you" he rambled on.

Hinata looked up to see the blonde so worried and for some reason she found it rather cute. Other than Sakura and a few of her closer friends, no one knew that Hinata had a massive crush on Naruto since they were kids and even though they had been in each other's vicinity for the past 10 years, this was the closest thing they had to a real conversation.

"Naruto-kun, it's alright you don't need to apologize, I wasn't paying attention either" she said, trying to calm him down but he wouldn't listen.

He kept on saying sorry and checking her for bruises and to say the least, Hinata was shocked, he didn't even know her beyond a few passing niceties and yet he was still so worried about her well being. It was only after he confirmed that he did no lasting damage to the blue-haired girl did he listen to her and calm down. He realized that she was shivering and was only in a light lavender t-shirt and pajamas with some fuzzy slippers on, comfortable he was sure but definitely not enough for the late-fall weather.

"Ummm, Hinata, you know it's the middle of October right" he asked, clearly confused as he helped her up.

"Oh...ummm...I know...it's just that I got into a fight with my roommate and stormed off without grabbing a coat" she stuttered as she crossed her arms for warmth.

"Well we can't have you catching a cold now can we?" responded the blonde as he took off his own jacket and draped it around her, leaving him in a light orange hoodie and shorts.

Once again, Hinata was shocked and she felt like she was about to faint, Naruto was already nicer to her than most people she knew. After all he barely knew her but was still concerned about her well being more than his own, giving her his jacket just so she would be warm.

"Naruto-kun, you should wear this" she said as she began to take off the jacket and hand it back to him.

"No way" he responded, cutting her off, "I still have a hoodie plus if my dad found out that I wasn't being a gentleman he would kick my ass" he continued, making her laugh.

"Well...I d...don't want him to do that to you" she responded shyly , giggling a little bit as she put the jacket back on, zipping it up all the way.

"It looks nice on you" he said as they started walking together, even though it was two sizes too big and fit her more like a cloak than a jacket, he found that it made her look incredibly cute.

"I should probably walk with you" said Naruto bluntly, causing Hinata to blush, "to make sure you don't accidentally bump into anyone else" he quickly added after realizing what he said may have been misinterpreted by the bluenette.

"That...that's alright" she replied, "I'm sure you would much rather be in your room than out here".

"Nah not really, my roommate is probably just studying right now so I think he would like the peace and quiet" responded Naruto, trying to make a believable cover story so that he wouldn't have to be honest and tell Hinata that he was puzzled by her and wanted to get to know her more.

"So ummm, what did you and your roommate get in a fight about?" asked Naruto cautiously, not wanting to be nosy but also curious to find out what could make such a seemingly sweet girl upset.

"Huh...oh...well...ummm" stuttered Hinata who wasn't really paying much attention to the question and was caught off guard by the blonde's sudden interest in her

"It was no-nothing too bad, she just li-likes to party an...and invited lots of pe...people over without asking mee. I gu...guess it is Friday night, I shou...should have seen it coming," continued Hinata who was suddenly becoming self conscious of her stutter, a trait which many people quickly grew annoyed of.

"That's not nice of her" replied the blonde bluntly

"She...she means well, an...and is really sweet, she ju...just gets a bit carried away at times. Knowing her, she...she'll pro...probably try to make it up to me"

"So I guess you don't like going to parties?" continued the blonde, intrigued by the chance at potentially finding someone else who thought they were overrated in every sense of the word

"I guess so, the...they're always too loud and I al...always end up being cornered by so...some drunk guy which makes me fe...feel uncomfortable and sc...scared" she replied, the last part leaving her lips like a whimper. Why was she telling him all of this she thought to herself, he probably thought she was some shy little girl. After all she barely knew him and yet she was confiding something in him which only a few of her closest friends knew.

"That's terrible" exclaimed Naruto, getting uncharacteristically angry at the thought of some drunk douchebag trying to force himself onto Hinata, a girl that he - despite barely knowing her - knew deserved something much better than that.

"It...it was alright, my friend Tenten sca...scared him off"

"But still, no guy should treat you like that so I'd like to formally apologize on behalf of my gender"

"Naru...Naruto-kun, you do...don't need to apologize, you di...did nothing wrong"

"Yes I do Hinata, no one should have done that to you, plus I don't want a few bad apples to make you think we are all bad"

Hinata knew he wouldn't take no for an answer and couldn't help but giggle, here she was, walking with a boy whom she had a crush on who was already more concerned with her well being than most people and was apologizing for something which he didn't even though. Not only was she taken aback by how kind and caring he was but also how endearingly stubborn he was, first making sure that she was alright after he bumped into her despite her telling him it wasn't his fault and now, doing his best to make sure she didn't think badly of all men because of her experience, something which she didn't.

"Al...alright, I accept your apology" she said

"Perfect, now given that there is a party at your dorm and it's getting cold why don't we find a nice warm place to relax" said Naruto as he continued to walk with her.

"Oh...ummmm...ok, i...it's alright you don't ha...have to do that"

"Are you kidding me, it's the least I can do, after all how often would I get the chance to hang out with someone as cool as you" interrupted Naruto, causing the bluenette to blush and nod in agreement

"Cool, I hope you like ramen" continued the blonde as he led the way to Ichiraku's, a small but cozy looking 24 hour restaurant which had been Naruto's favorite since he was little and currently, his latest part-time job.

"Welcome" said an enthusiastic old man as the two entered the shop, he was dressed in all white including a small hat and Hinata guessed that he owned the place

"What's up old man" replied the blonde as he took a seat on a stool by the counter, motioning for Hinata to take the one next to him.

The dark haired girl couldn't help but admire the quaint little shop, while it didn't look like much on the outside, it was filled with wonderful smells and a cozy and comforting atmosphere.

"What will you have?" asked a rather loud voice which interrupted her train of thought as she focused back on the blonde asking the question.

"I...I don't know, I've nev...never had ramen before"

"Lucky" replied Naruto, shocking Hinata

"Wh...what do you mean lucky Naruto-kun"

"Because, you get to try it for the first time" he replied enthusiastically, "and I'm gonna make it for you" he continued as he stopped up and walked behind the counter, grabbing an apron.

Hinata couldn't help but smile as she saw the blonde working so diligently, admiring both how kind and caring he was and also, even though she didn't want to admit it, how handsome and attractive he looked. What she didn't notice however, was a brown haired girl, also dressed in all white, sitting on the stool next to her.

"Hi, I'm Ayame" she said as she introduced herself, snapping Hinata out of her trance

"I'm Hinata, nice to meet you"

"Nice to meet you too," she replied, "Are you Naruto's girlfriend?" she asked somewhat bluntly causing Hinata's entire face to turn a bright shade of red.

"Wh...what, n...no, I act...actually just met him" replied the blue-haired girl frantically, "what ma...made you think I was his gi...gir...girlfriend?" she stuttered, the last word escaping her mouth like a whimper.

"Well, Naruto has been coming here since he was 5 and aside from his dad or that dark haired boy, I've never seen him here with anyone else, so you must be special to him" responded the brunette

"W-well...ummm ac-actually, this is our first time meeting" said the bluenette, much to the surprise of the girl sitting next to her

"Oh, in that case you must be even more special than I thought, cause for Naruto this is pretty much holy ground and he didn't even bring his emo friend here till they were in their senior year of highschool. But what do I know, anyways I need to get back to work" replied Ayame as she stood up, adjusted her apron and disappeared behind the counter.

"Why did Naruto-kun bring me here, I'm not special to him, I just met him" thought Hinata to herself as she waited for the blonde to finish whatever he was doing inside of the kitchen, only hearing the occasional sound of vegetables being cut or noodles being boiled.

"Order up" said the blonde cheekily as he placed two bowls on the counter and undid his apron before sitting on the stool next to Hinata.

She couldn't believe what was in front of her, a rather large bowl filled with noodles swimming in a brown-ish broth topped with pieces of char-siu pork, seaweed, menma shoots, an egg and naruto fishcake, the last one being a personal favorite of the blonde she assumed.

"This looks amazing Naruto-kun" she said as she continued to admire the dish in front of her, much to the blonde's satisfaction

"I basically grew up eating these, and now I get to make them" he replied sheepishly, rubbing his hand behind his head. "But, tell me how you like it" he continued as he handed her some chopsticks and a wide spoon for the broth.

Hinata nodded and picked up a piece of the char siu pork with the chopsticks and started eating, followed by the blonde who was wolfing down his own bowl. Having grown up in a very formal family, most of Hinata's life was spent at stuffy dinners and events with rubber chicken and tasteless vegetables so needless to say, this was one of the best things she had tasted. Not only was everything fresh and flavorful but there was also something else about, a sense of hominess and comfort that came with each bite that she couldn't quite explain. Before she knew it, she was almost done and only had broth left which she was slowly trying to drink with her spoon, causing the blonde sitting next to her to laugh.

"Wh-what's so funny Naruto-kun" she asked shyly, wondering if he was laughing at her because she had done something wrong.

"Nothing, it's just that you're eating so formally and it'll take you hours to finish if you keep eating like that" he said, "this is what you're supposed to do" he continued saying as he picked up his bowl, placed it by his mouth and tilted it upwards, drinking the broth.

Hinata nodded and started to do the same, slowly picking up her bowl, feeling strange as this went against almost every rule her father had taught her. Then again he would never find out she assured herself as she started taking small sips, still trying to look somewhat composed. As she finished, she set the bowl down "was...was that better Naruto-kun" she asked shyly and luckily, he nodded in agreement.

"So how did you like it" he asked curiously

"It was amazing" responded Hinata and as she did, the blonde's eyes went wide and his mouth curved upwards into a smile reminding her of the cheshire cat

"Really?" he asked again, to which she nodded yes making him even happier

"I'm really glad you liked it, it's my favorite but then I was scared you might not like it or if I overdid the noodles or if the veggies were too big or if there was too much broth or not enough broth" he rambled on

Hinata couldn't help herself from giggling at the 18 year old boy in front of her who was behaving like a little kid. "It was perfect" she said as she put her hand on his shoulder so that he would calm down

Naruto felt her hand and oddly enough it was very calming and reassuring, soft and small but still perfect. Hinata felt the same and subconsciously she was feeling how muscular he was beneath his hoodie, his shoulder was firm, but not in a bony way, it was still somehow smooth.

"Wait what am I doing" she thought to herself as alarms went off in her head as she quickly moved her arm back and turned bright red.

"Everything alright?" asked the confused blonde who knew full well what had just happened, he had just met her and yet her touch felt like one of the most calming things he had experienced in a long time.

All Hinata could do was nod as she began to fumble for her wallet so that she could pay for the meal.

"What are you doing Hinata" he asked as he saw her taking out some money

"Pa-paying for my meal" she responded, confused as to why he asked such a seemingly obvious question

"I made it for you" he replied "plus you didn't technically order it and it was my idea so I got it" continued the blonde as he reached for his own wallet which had decorations of frogs on it.

Before she could protest, the owner of the shop, who she learned was named Teuchi, walked up to the counter.

"Both of you calm down, since it was your first bowl here and clearly Naruto is fond of you, it's on the house" he said in a deep voice. Not wanting to argue, both of them put their wallets away and Naruto put their dishes in the sink behind the counter.

They both stood up and Hinata once again zipped up Naruto's jacket as the two made their way out of the restaurant. "Hope to see you again soon" said the cheerful brunette as she waved goodbye to Hinata.

"Of course you're gonna see them soon, he works here and they're into each other" said her father once the door closed.

"Yeah, you're right tou-chan, they would make a cute couple' replied his daughter as she once again disappeared into the kitchen, this time looking for a snack.

"Tha-thank you for such an amazing meal Naruto-kun, you're a really good chef" said Hinata as the two walked back towards the campus.

"You really think so Hinata?" replied the wide-eyed blonde who was finally receiving praise for skills from someone other than his father, god knows Sasuke would never willingly complement him.

"I-I do" she replied, "Who taught you how to cook?"

"Well my dad mainly, plus the old man and Ayame but my mom was my real inspiration, I heard that she was a really good cook so whenever I make something it's like i'm connected to her ya know" answered the blonde

Hinata knew that he had lost his parents and people always used to blame him for it, something which she never understood.

"I'm sure she would have been very proud of you Naruto-kun" replied the bluenette, surprising herself that she didn't stutter.

"I hope she would be" responded the blonde solemnly only for him to feel something strange. Hinata had taken his hand and wrapped her pinky around his.

"I pinky promise she would be," Hinata said confidently, which was apparently all that was needed to change Naruto's mood from sad to happy.

"Don't take this the wrong way Hinata, but I'm really glad your roommate pissed you off" said Naruto as he continued walking with her, their hands occasionally brushing against each other.

"So am I" she replied, giggling a little bit as they reached her dorm

"Looks like the party is over" she said "all the lights are off"

"Perfect, now you can finally get some sleep"

"I guess I can" said Hinata as she opened the door and started to walk in

"HINATA WAIT" shouted Naruto, admittedly more loudly than he should have, as she started to leave, causing her to turn around startled.

"Y-yes Naruto-kun" she responded as she walked back to him, "is som-something wrong?"

"Yeah there's a huge problem" he said in a faux-serious voice, "I don't have your number!"

"Could you maybe give it to me so we could hang out again?"

Once again Hinata blushed, Naruto was asking for her number because he wanted to hang out again.

"Oh o-of course" she said as she took his phone and added her contact

"Thanks Hinata, now there's just one thing missing," he said as he wrapped an arm around her and pulled her in close and took a photo of them. "I needed a picture for your contact" he sheepishly said as he saw the brunette's face turn an alarming shade of red.

"N-n-no worries" she stuttered out

"Anyways i'll let you go to sleep, hopefully I'll see you again soon"

And with that he left the building and Hinata was left in her dorm, her immaculately clean dorm which didn't look like it had just hosted a party. The bluenette smiled and made a note to apologize to her roommate as she started to walk to her room when she heard a voice.

"Oh good you're finally back" said her roommate "I was kinda worried about you"

"Wo-worried, why?" asked Hinata

"Well it's like 2 in the morning, you weren't answering your phone and wait who's jacket are you wearing" answered Ino as Hinata realized that she was still wearing Naruto's jacket

"Oh, ummmm, no-nobody"

"Hinata hyuga you little minx, I didn't know you had this side" teased the blonde

"Ino-chan it's not wh-what you think," replied the bluenette as she sat her friend down and explained everything, not wanting her to get the wrong idea.

"So you accidentally bumped into a guy who turned out to be Naruto who you've had a crush on since we were little and then he took you for ramen and spent the entire night with you?" asked Ino as Hinata finished the story.

"Well if any of our friends deserve a fairy-tale romance its you" said Ino who, while being happy of her friend, was also jealous since he had yet to find any guy who she actually liked beyond aesthetically.

"Anyway, I'm gonna get some sleep, goodnight Hinata" continued Ino as she walked back into her room.

Meanwhile, another very happy blonde walked back into his dorm.

"Sasuke I think I'm in love" said Naruto happily only for him to be interrupted

"Shut up dobe I'm sleeping" yelled his roommate and an extremely discouraged Naruto changed and climbed into his own bed, not noticing his missing jacket.

Before he closed his eyes however he grabbed his phone and sent the photo of him and Hinata to the aforementioned bluenette. He quickly typed "Goodnight :D" and pressed send.

Hinata felt her phone buzz on her side table and checked the message, smiling before responding "sweet dreams"

Naruto, saw the message, smiled and with that they both fell asleep
