Akihito and Mitsuki had a very weird relationship. It was quite strange how they manage to stay friends with each other despite their back and forth with one another. But in reality, everything they have ever said had no real bite such as Mitsuki making fun of his weird glasses fetish.
Both were content with the relationship they had but they always wanted to be more than this, more than friends. But they always find a way to avoid it. Whether by accident or on purpose, they avoid trying to get closer than they are. Why you ask? Because they were afraid.
Akihito was scared of his youmu abilities and how it could possibly hurt Mitsuki especially after he gave the scars on Hiromi's back. Mitsuki was afraid of the possibility of Akihito getting eliminated by the other spirit warriors especially from the higher-ups due to his half-youmu nature.
Despite this, they find a form of pleasantness and comfort when they were around each other. They exchange humorous banter with each other and accompany each other partly due to her task to monitor him.
One day, Akihito asked Mitsuki to wear a pair of new purple glasses he bought. Normally she would denied and say he was a pervert but today she was decided to tease him a bit. So she wore the glasses surprising Akihito who blushed. " How do I look Akihito?" she teasingly ask with a small smile.
Akihito simply had a stunned look on his face then he smile saying " You look quite good with glasses. How about you wear them everyday?". She simply smile teasingly and called him pervert and he responds with his usual retorts about how liking glasses was not perverted. Both of them didn't notice how close their faces were until Kuriyama suddenly appeared and splutter on how closes they were.
They then noticed and backed away instantly blushing heavily. When asked why they were so close, both denied any assumptions and decided to forget about the incident but both still remember how close their faces were and how their breath felt so close with each other.
After school, they walked home still a bit awkward about the incident. Having enough of the silence, Akihito breaks it by saying " So about what happen in the clubroom..." he trailed off. " Its nothing to worry about and it was accident" she quickly said and Akihito felt a bit awkward about it but shook it off and said " Yeah it was accident".
"...Have you ever thought about us?" she suddenly asked and Akihito was slightly shocked by the question. Mitsuki noticing this decided to clarify " I meant about our relationship as friends."
Akihito still shocked but decided to ask back " Have you ever thought about it?" and Mitsuki stayed silent for awhile then she said "...Yeah". Akihito decided to stay silent after that not knowing how to respond. They walk in silence not knowing how to respond to current situation. When they arrived at Akihito's apartment, they looked at each other to say their goodbye but found it hard to speak. Akihito decided to do something and searched his pockets to find something.
When he found the thing he was looking for, he gave it to Mitsuki who was surprised to see him giving the glasses that she wore this morning. " Why are giving me this?" she asked confused. Akihito was a bit embarrassed but he said " I want to have them. You look like you would use them more than anyone I know plus you look amazing wearing them." She slightly surprised and blushed at the compliment then she smile " Thanks I'll take care of them". Akihito blushed slightly but smiled saying sure.
They then went their separate ways feeling a bit warm in their chest but were slightly disappointed that they didn't talk about their true feelings. It was fine for them even if they didn't manage to tell their true feelings. They were happy that they were still close with each other.
My first fanfic. I finished the anime years ago but was disappointed that this pairing was not around as I think Mitsuki and Akihito's relationship is very interesting and somewhat hilarious with their tsukkomi bole routine they have. Anyways hope you guys enjoyed sorry if it not that good.
