AUTHOR'S NOTES: This is a filk with new words set to the melody of "Tougenkyou Alien", the ninth Gintama opening by the band serial TV drama, but using the full version of the song.
I've underlined syllables at a couple of places in order to make the stress more obvious. I've also used slashes for the places where the same word (the word "on") is used in an overlapping way, both at the end of one sentence and the start of the next one - this in an attempt to imitate the singing flow of the original a little.
I would love to get feedback on whether this works for other people to sing, or if it's just me... Of course, suggestions on how to improve the filk are very welcome!
DISCLAIMER just because it's polite: These characters are created and owned by Hideaki Sorachi. They are used here without permission. This filk should not be reposted elsewhere without the writer's approval.
(Come on, let's go! Let's go now! Ha! etc.)
In the middle of the busy city streets,
It's just another day of keeping on, keeping on,
You're doing hustles on the old Kabuki beat
Your hands are dirty but your soul's still shining on
Whether you were born just 13 blocks away,
Or you're actually an alien, alien;
Now you've come to be a part of this whole play,
Throw the script away and let your lines flow /on
On/ we grumble
On we fight
Trip and stumble
But still
Still we struggle onwards through the night- !
Empty hollows, the burdens of the past
All too many losses, only shadows last
Moving slowly, hoping it's all right,
We'll grow warm together,
We can find a li-ee-ai-ee-aight.
This is who we are
This is where we stay
Shout together: Da! Da! Da!
(Let's go! One! Two! Come on come on come on come on!)
Sing the fight song, sing the fight song,
I just want to listen to you singing out,
Na na na na na…
(Instrumental)
We are greeted by injustice all around,
You live by compromising everyday, everyday,
There are those who strive to tear the whole thing down,
And the guardians who fight them all the way
In the penniless confusion of our lives,
Inside we're all of us an alien, alien
So it's on us to try and make connecting ties,
Through the muddle and the chaos, we go /on
On/ we fumble
On we try
Trip and stumble
But still
Find our way to be a samurai- !
Empty hollows, the burdens of the past,
All too many losses, only shadows last,
Who we were then lies buried deep inside,
Hard to find a meaning, purpose to survi-ai-ai-ive
Empty hollows, but then I picked them up:
Without meaning to, new burdens on my back;
Moving forward, and maybe it's all right,
We'll grow warm together, we can find a li-ee-ai-aight.
This is who we are
This is where we stay
Shout together: Da! Da! Da!
(instrumental, then repeat of last three lines)
