Phil had taken Jay to a movie to try to bond with him. Jay obviously didn't want to go, but as he had nothing else to do, he had relented. Phil was excited to hang out with his father-in-law, they had barely talked to each other anymore. Phil had never had a good relationship with his own father, the man had been abusive. He'd never told anyone, especially Jay. He felt that Jay would call him a wimp or say something his dad might… He knew he shouldn't blame himself- but he did. When he first met Jay, he couldn't help but picture his own father. It had taken Phil a while to realize that Jay was nothing like him.

Jay sighed. He wondered why he even accepted Phil's offer- the movie wasn't even that good. Phil had been trying to get them to do more things together for a while now. He'd usually blow him off, but he was bored. Phil motioned that he was gonna get some food for the both of them. Jay nodded. As he left, Jay realized that he hadn't even said a word to his son-in-law since they got here.

When he reached the front, Phil realized that there wasn't a good collection of snacks. It was already dark outside but he decided to run to the gas station that was less than a block away. He was sure Jay wouldn't mind a few minutes to himself. He started walking, not noticing that a man had followed him out.

Phil hadn't even gone halfway when he stopped, hearing someone call out to him from behind.

"Hey!" The voice said. Phil turned around to face a man with a knife pointed towards him. His eyes widened when the man drew closer. Phil put his hands up calmly,

"Hey- take it easy, man-" he started. But the man interrupted him, "Give me your wallet! Now!" He was now about a foot away and Phil couldn't stop glancing at the knife. He ran his hands through his hair, then reached into his back pocket- it was empty. Oh no. He sucked in a breath and searched his other pockets. Nothing but the quarters he uses for magic. He finally looked up at his mugger and tried to joke,

"You take change?" A flash of rage crossed the man's face as he lunged forwards.

Jay wondered why Phil was taking so long. I did see that lousy candy collection. He probably went to that gas station. He looked down and noticed Phil's wallet was on his chair. He sighed and decided to go bring it to him, after all it was only a block away.

Phil barely had time to process the man plunging a knife into his stomach. The man left the knife in and ran off. Phil dropped onto his knees, where the pain in his stomach gripped his entire being. He groaned and fell backwards, his head hitting the ground. He lifted his head back up and put his hands around where the knife was still embedded. Blood was leaking out from between his hands. He gritted his teeth and pressed harder. This is definitely not good. "HEL-" pain flashed through him at the attempt to scream for help. He remembered that while he didn't have his wallet, he did have his phone. Well, unless his mugger took it… god I hope not… He let go with one hand and fished through his pockets again. His heart jumps with relief when he finds the small device. As soon as he dials Jay's number, his eyes start to feel heavy. He presses the speaker and drops the phone by his head, moving his hand back to the wound again.
