This story idea has been itching in the back of my head for a bit now. :)

Undertale belongs to Toby Fox. I only own Lisa, James, Dylan, and their grandparents.

Ranchers And Monsters

Chapter 1: Rescue

Things weren't going well.

Frisk felt tears sting her eyes as she held onto Sans' hand, leaning against him as her tears began falling. He looked at her and scooped her up, hugging her. "Shh, it's okay, baby bones," he said soothingly.

"But...I was hoping...you'd be accepted," she admitted.

The others were quiet, their minds going over what had happened in just a few short hours.

Frisk had broken the barrier, freeing Chara and Asriel as a result and reuniting them with their family. They had then exited Mt. Ebbot into a world they had only dreamed of seeing again after they had been sealed underground because of the Human-Monster War. But no sooner had they come out, the police had come and were hunting for them, claiming they were under arrest. Not only that, the people of the town were after them too.

Chara clung to Papyrus, who held her soothingly. "Why are they after us?" She asked.

"I don't know," he replied gently.

"We need to get out of here, like out in the country," Undyne said firmly. "But how?"

Frisk looked around and spotted an eighteen-wheeler being loaded up and it looked like it was almost full of things, like grocery bags and furniture. "What about in there?" She asked. "They could be heading out of the city."

"I agree with her," Asgore said, having weighed the options. "I think that's our best bet."

"We best get aboard then," Grillby said. "Hurry."

They moved fast and Asgore climbed in first, reaching for his wife's hand and she took it, feeling hands on her waist supporting her as she climbed inside. Undyne lifted Alphys aboard and climbed in herself while Gaster kept watch as they all climbed in. Sans made sure everyone got aboard and then he lifted the three children up to his brother, who accepted them before lifting the shorter skeleton into the truck. "Gaster, we're ready," said Sans.

The tallest skeleton brother checked to see the coast was clear before climbing into the back of the trailer himself. Just as he did, the police came around the corner. "Freeze!" One of them said.

"Drive!" Another voice cried out.

The truck jolted and the monsters braced themselves, except for Asriel, who tumbled out the open back. "Asriel!" Toriel cried out.

"Mom!" He cried out as he landed on his feet, the distance to the ground from the truck being a short one.

"Grab it!" A police officer said.

A figure darted from the alleyway, dropping a canister of sorts. It immediately began spurting out a cloud of smoke that made the officers cough before they passed out, the sleeping gas taking effect. Asriel, seeing this, began running, feeling hands scoop him up moments later and the figure, who he could now see was a young woman, began running for the truck.

A door opened and the monsters looked to see a young man come sprinting to the back of the open truck and he waved to the girl. "Come on, sis!" He called out.

Nodding, she managed to catch up and she tossed the goat child up to him. The young man caught Asriel before the truck began to pick up a bit of speed and police sirens sounded out. "Sis!" The young man cried out. "Run jump!"

She nodded and quickly moved to one side, running up a pile of junk that was in the alley. Thankfully, it was sturdy enough to support her weight as she ran.

"What's a run jump?" Asriel asked the young man, curious as to what was going on.

"Just watch," the young man said, giving him a friendly smile before a beeping sound came to them and the young man pulled a lever, the open back beginning to close up. The young girl, running alongside, disappeared from sight for a moment before jumping at the right time, curling up into a ball as the back doors closed into a chute-like tunnel and she slid down it seconds before it would have closed.

With a grunt, the young man caught her and they rolled a bit before jumping up, stumbling a little, but scrambling fast to the front of the trailer as a voice came over a speaker. "Places, guys! In five...four...three...,"

The other two scrambled to some chairs where they were odd stations set up. To the monsters, it looked like sentry posts that were decked out with electronics. "You're on, sis!" The voice on the loudspeaker said.

The young woman tapped some keys rapidly. "Coordinates locked!" She cried out.

"Bro, get us going!"

The young man nodded at the urgent voice and tapped some keys quickly. "Launch in ten seconds," he said.

"It's up to you, bro!" The young woman said.

A shifting sound was heard. "Brace yourselves!" The person on the loudspeaker said.

Seconds later, the monster felt a stirring of strong magic, freezing as it washed over them. Thankfully, it wasn't harmful magic, but had caught them off guard. "We're almost there!" Came a distorted voice before everything finally went back to normal and everyone sighed in relief.

"We made it," the young woman said. She took off her cowgirl hat and wiped her brow with her shirt sleeve. "That was rather thrilling, I must admit."

"Can't argue that," said the young man, also wiping his brow.

Frisk perked up as she listened to their conversation, the young woman sounding familiar to her. The young woman noticed and smiled. "Everything okay, kiddo?" She asked.

Frisk nodded. "I'm sorry, but you sound so familiar. Have we met before?" She asked.

The young woman smiled gently. "Well, it has been three years, little Jillaroo," she said, her voice gentle.

Frisk jumped up as if someone had poked her. "Lisa!" She exclaimed happily, scrambling out of Sans' lap and running to short distance to the young woman, leaping into her arms. Lisa caught the young girl and hugged her, tears falling down her face.

"Oh, Frisk," she said, holding the child protectively. "We've missed you, little Jillaroo."

"She's right, Cub," said the young man.

Frisk turned her head to the young man. "Dylan!" She exclaimed, her happiness contagious as she jumped from Lisa's arms into Dylan's arms.

"We thought that was you, but we weren't sure until you guys climbed into the truck," he said.

"Eaglet has returned?" The voice on the loudspeaker said.

Frisk gasped, her happiness lighting up the place. "James!" She said, a big smile on her face.

An amused chuckle came from the young man. "We were worried you wouldn't recognize us, kiddo," he said.

She giggled. "How can I forget the family that was good to me and the three siblings that gave me special nicknames?" She asked.

"Grandma and Grandpa are going to be thrilled that you're here," Lisa said.

Frisk looked at Lisa and reached for her. The young woman accepted her from Dylan and noticed the child looked down. "But...why did I have to leave?" She asked softly. "I thought...they wanted to adopt me."

"Are you kidding, Frisk?" The young woman asked, her voice incredulous. "Grandma and Grandpa were in the process of adopting you when the lawyer came and said there was something wrong and had you taken away from us."

"We later found out he had been paid to kidnap you," Dylan said. "So we went after him, but by the time we found him and had him and the judge he was working with arrested, you were gone."

"We looked everywhere for you though," Lisa said. "How did you get to Mt. Ebbot?"

"That's where I was taken," Frisk said.

"So this whole time, you've been right under our noses and we had no idea," Dylan said. "Mt. Ebbot is only a few towns away from where we live."

The monsters were surprised. "Who are you?" Sans asked, feeling protective of Frisk.

Lisa looked at them. "Frisk, who are they?" She asked gently.

"My family and friends," the child said. "They took me in after I fell into the mountain."

Dylan smiled. "Then they are our family too," he said.

Lisa smiled, checking the time. "We have about an hour before we arrive at the farm," she said.

James' voice came over the loudspeaker. "I'd say we got time for a story," he said.

"I agree wholeheartedly," Asgore said.

Nodding, Lisa took a deep breath. "It only seems like yesterday...,"
