Inuyasha: Friendship Across the Stars
Chapter 1
It was a dark quiet night in Sengoku Japan as Kagome Higurashi a miko from five hundred years in the future, her companions Inuyasha an inu hanyo. Sango a taijiya 'yokai slayer,' Miroku a young Buddhist monk. Shippo a young fox yokai and Kirara, a two tailed cay known as a nekomata. The group was currently looking for a place to camp for the night.
Meanwhile Sesshomaru, Inuyasha's full inu daiyokai half brother was walking through another part of the forest with his retainer Jaken leading the two-headed dragon-horse A-Un with Rin, Sesshomaru's young human ward sleeping on his saddle.
Not far Koga the wolf yokai and his companions Ginta and Hakkaku with their wolf pack were running through the night. Also traveling was Kikyo the undead miko with her ghostly shinidamachu.
So far it was an uneventful night until. . .
Everyone froze as an echo of power appeared, Kagome was the first to react, clutching her shirt and gasping in shock. "What's with yo-" Inuyasha froze as he felt it to.
"What is that?" Sango asked clutching her giant boomerang Hiraikotsu while Kirara jumped onto her shoulder, her fur standing on end.
"I've never felt anything like it before," Miroku said almost in awe.
It was unlike anything any of them had ever felt before, it seemed holy yet at the same time different. Sesshomaru, Kikyo, Koga and their groups had stopped as they glanced in the direction they felt the power coming from. For a moment it felt so vast but just as quickly it suddenly disappeared leaving everyone shaken.
After a few minutes Inuyasha huffed, "Well whatever it was it's gone now."
"But how did something that powerful disappear so quickly?" Sango wondered petted a nervous nekomata.
"Maybe it shielded itself," Miroku answered.
"Whatever, unless it's Naraku let's go." Inuyasha continued walking with the others following, they didn't get far before they realized Kagome wasn't following. She stood there staring into the distance. "Kagome!" The hanyo snapped.
Slowly she turned to them, her eyes wide. "I got a bad feeling," the futuristic miko muttered.
Meanwhile miles away a golden deer ran through a dark forest with blood pouring from a wound on it's side. But despite the pain it kept running, it knew it's pursuers were close. It breathed heavily as the trees started to disappear and it stopped at the top of a cliff with a raging river below.
"Found you," a voice called from the darkness. The deer turned to seven figures standing a few feet from it. The golden creature hesitated for a moment till one of the figures took a step forward, with a great leap off the cliff the deer disappeared into the raging waters below.
Moving to the edge of the cliff a growl of annoyance came from one of the figures. "Find it, don't let it escape!"
"Yes lord," the other figures kneeled before disappearing into the forest.
Turing back to the river another growl filled the air, "Nothing can save you."
The next day passerby's on the road looked at the odd group as a hanyo and a miko in strange clothing argued.
"I told you I don't feel anything, there's no shard around here," Kagome could feel a headache coming on, why did Inuyasha have to be so stubborn.
"We should still check it out," Inuyasha argued stubbornly. "You've been acting weird since last night, how do we know you didn't miss something."
"I'm Fine!" She snapped. Yes she felt something odd yesterday but she was fine now, she was annoyed no one seemed to believe her.
Inuyasha huffed and crossed his arms, "Maybe we'd believe you if you were better at finding the shards and not so useless-"
"SIT!"
Down Inuyasha went. Kagome grabbed her bag and bow and arrows and stormed off, the group watched her go. Shippo looked at the downed figure, "You're so stupid Inuyasha."
Kagome headed for the river she had seen earlier, she needed a moment alone. Inuyasha could be so frustrating, sometimes it was like dealing with a child. He had his good moments but time like these she needed to be away. Kagome reached the river and kneeled next to a large bolder, taking out her empty bottles she dipped one in the cool water.
A noise caught the young miko's attention.
Looking around Kagome realized it was coming from the other side of the rock. She quickly grabbed her bow and arrows, it was always best to be prepared. Quickly she pressed her back against the rock and moved around so she could see what had made the noise. When she saw it Kagome was surprised to find a horse lying by the river with a terrible gash on it's side.
It was a beautiful creature, completely golden, it's mane and tail were a light flaxen shade, it's hooves were a dark shade of gold. Kagome noticed it didn't have a bridle or saddle. The horse made a pained sound and Kagome couldn't turn away from someone in distress, she stepped around the rock completely and slowly approached the injured animal. It's head shot up when she approached and tried to stand.
Kagome quickly held up her hands and said softly, "Easy, I won't hurt you." The horse froze and stared at her, Kagome could see it had it had golden eyes as well. She smiled and approach reaching her hand out and the horse stood like a statue. She touched it's neck and a jolt was felt, she pulled her hand back. "What was that?"
After a moment when nothing happened Kagome reached forward again, this time the horse rested it's muzzle in her hand, when nothing happened she smiled patting it. "Will you let me check your wound?"
She moved towards her bag hoping the horse wouldn't bolt and retrieved her first-aid-kit. The young girl pulled out some gaze wipes to clean the blood away so she could see the damage, the horse's skin shuttered as she wiped but it didn't move or make a sound. Now Kagome could see the gash better. It was deep but not wide, she couldn't tell if it was from a weapon or claws and teeth. She held up a can of disinfectant. "This will sting," she warned worried it would jump up and start kicking. With a spray it flinched but didn't move much. "Wow, you're a better patient then Inuyasha."
Kagome finished by wrapping bandages over the wound, "There, that should do it." The horse turned and nuzzled her face. She gently pushed him back with a giggle, "If that's a thank you your very welcome."
The golden eyes caught her attention again, Kagome felt something though she didn't know what. She reached forward almost placing her hand on the horse's nose when. . .
"KAGOME!"
Kagome sighed dropping her arm as her hanyo friend landed behind her.
"What's taking so lon-" Inuyasha stopped seeing she wasn't alone. Before he could say anything else the others had caught up.
"Where'd you get a horse?" Shippo asked.
"I found him by the river, he was injured so I treated his wounds," Kagome said proudly patting the horse's neck.
"You wasted your medicine on a mangy animal?" Inuyasha said in disbelief.
"SIT!" Down he went. Kagome glared at him a moment.
"Maybe we should continue out journey," Miroku spoke up. "It will be getting dark soon."
"Alright," Kagome agreed, she gave the horse one last pat. "Stay safe." The group including a grumbling Inuyasha headed for the road, the horse watched them leave.
Later that day the group was on the move again, it was calm and quiet but everyone noticed Kagome seemed to be in her own world with a frown on her face. Finally annoyed with it Inuyasha did what he always did to get her attention, he started ranting.
But still she didn't acknowledge him. "Did you hear anything I just said!" He snapped.
She blinked and finally looked at him, "Hmm, sorry did you say something?"
Sango pushed Inuyasha away before he could launch into another rant and looked at Kagome concerned, "Kagome, are you okay?"
"I keep thinking about that horse," she admitted. "I hope it's okay."
"I don't think we need to worry," Miroku said glancing over his shoulder.
"Why?"
"Because it's following us."
Everyone stopped walking and turned, sure enough the horse came into view following at a leisurely pace. Annoyed Inuyasha shouted with a raised fist, "Get out of here ya mangy beast!"
"SIT!" Kagome yelled.
Down went the hanyo creating a nice hole, the horse barely gave him a glance as it walked by the cursing hole and right up to Kagome.
"It seems to have taking a liking to you lady Kagome," Miroku said with a grin, "Though who could blame anyone from being fond of such a lovely-" A growl from Sango silenced him.
With a smile Kagome reached forward and patter it's muzzle, the horse learned into her touch and seemed to relax. "Can we bring him with us?" The young miko suddenly asked, "I'd hate for a wolf or bear to get him." 'Or something worse,' she though to herself.
Sango and Miroku shared a look and both shrugged. "I'm sure we can find a village along the way to leave him in," the monk answered.
"HEY!" Don't I get a say in this!" Inuyasha shouted as he climbed out of his hole.
"Sit!" Back in he went. The group continued on with their new member knowing a grouchy hanyo would catch up. None noticed the horse glancing back the way they came nervously.
