This is my first fan fiction. It takes place about a generation or two after the actual book series. I hope you enjoy!! :)

Prologue

Queen Koi swam to the royal hatchery, pushing through other SeaWings in a rush to check on her eggs. They were due to hatch soon and she didn't want to miss it. She opened the doors and swam up to two eggs sitting side by side, both having a faint glow shining from them.

Your safe... She thought with relief. She knew the royal hatchery was the safest place in the palace but hearing stories about a statue that was animus touched to kill off eggs many years ago still scared her to this day. So she checked her eggs three times a day and, as always, they were perfectly fine.

The first egg suddenly cracked, making Queen Koi's heart leap with excitement. She watched with her eyes wide and full of anticipation as the crack got bigger and bigger. Then a little light blue SeaWing head popped out of the egg and looked up at her mother, blinking and a little dazed by the queens many gems and necklaces.

"Hello my little one." Queen Koi flashed with her bioluminescent scales.

The baby SeaWing princess watched in amazement as her mother's scales flashed in Aquatic. Then she leaned forward to take a closer look, making her roll forward and out of the egg.

"Careful!" Queen Koi flashed as the little princess bumped into the queens talon. She bent down and nuzzled the little princess gently. "I'll call you Aquaria."

The second egg suddenly cracked as well. Queen Koi and Aquaria looked up as it rolled over, hitting Aquaria's egg shells.

Aquaria approached the egg and sniffed it ever so slightly. The egg suddenly cracked open where Aquaria had sniffed it, making the light blue SeaWing princess jump back in surprise.

The top of the egg popped off and a little purple head appeared from underneath the shell.

Queen Koi blinked at the newborn in surprise. Purple? How did that happen? Aquaria got her father's color. How come this one isn't green like me? She thought as the purple hatchling climbed out of its shell and looked around at its surroundings.

Aquaria blew a bubble at her younger sister of which the purple hatchling responded with a jump of glee as she popped it playfully. The bubble exploded into many smaller bubbles as they floated up to the ceiling and stayed stuck there.

A light blue male dragon, much like Aquaria entered the room. "I heard that they're hatching- oh! Look at that, they already hatched!" He flashed as he swam up to stand beside the queen.

"Hi, Trident." The queen greeted. "You can name one of you like. I've already named this one." Queen Koi flashed as she pointed at Aquaria. "So I suppose you can name the weird one."

"The weird one?" Trident frowned.

"Yes. She's purple for some odd reason. Makes her look like a slug." Queen Koi flashed as she gave the purple dragonet a look of disapproval.

"Why does the color matter?" Trident flashed. "She's still our daughter."

Queen Koi rolled her eyes. "Just name her."

Trident thought for a moment. "How about Sapphire?"

"Sure, I don't really care." Queen Koi waved her arm in disinterest. "I'm going to go hunt for Aquaria."

"What about Sapphire?" Trident asked.

"She can be your responsibility." The queen replied before closing the door to the hatchery and leaving Trident alone with his two daughters.

"Then I'll take extra good care of you." Trident flashed as he smiled at Sapphire who was playing with her egg shells.

Chapter 1

Sapphire swam to her sisters room. The outside door was decorated with seashells and pearls organized together to read Princess Aquaria. Sapphire opened the door to see Aquaria trying on a pearl necklace that their mother gave her. Today was the day they were to be tested if they were animus or not. Aquaria seemed certain that she was an animus even though she never tried casting a spell before.

"Aquaria."Sapphire flashed as she swam up to her sister.

"What do you want?" Her sister replied as irritation spilled all over her face. "Dont you know how to knock?"

"Oh, sorry. But mother is calling us up to the island." Sapphire flashed as Aquaria turned around in excitement.

"Oh, is it that time already?" Aquaria smiled as she swam past her younger sister, bumping into her and pushing her out of the way. "In that case, I'll go there now. You shouldn't even bother to come. Mother most likely won't even give you a chance." She sneered as she left the room.

Sapphire frowned. Well mother said go get Aquaria..surely that means come back when your done? She thought as she swam after her sister.

When she arrived to the island, she saw Queen Koi, Trident, Aquaria, and two other dragonets named Trout and Wave. They were Sapphire's brothers and they both hated her just as much as the others did. Trident was the only one who showed at least a little love and care but Sapphire could tell he was mostly forcing it.

She climbed out of the water and sat beside her sister who glared at her with hatred.

"Why are you here?" Aquaria growled. Queen Koi looked up from beside Trident who was speaking to her. She walked away from Trident while he was mid-sentence and stopped in front of Sapphire to glare at her as well. Trident frowned as shuffled his talons awkwardly as the queen practically tossed him to the side.

"Yes, what are you doing here?" The queen asked as she narrowed her eyes at Sapphire.

Wave and Trout leaned forward to see past Aquaria. Sapphire glanced at them to see if they were looking at her with pity or at least some sort of love but they had the same hatful glare as the others.

"Um- Well I'm a royal too..Shouldn't I get tested for having animus powers as well..?" Sapphire asked in an almost silent voice.

Queen Koi threw back her head and laughed hysterically. "Really? You actually thought that?" She managed to say through her laughter.

"...Um well yeah.. I thought it was a requirement..?" Sapphire whispered.

"Of course not! I don't want to waste time on you." Queen Koi growled. "You already are wasting my time. Trident, give them all coconuts already. Except Sapphire, of course."

Trident picked up a few coconuts and handed them to Sapphire's siblings. He stopped beside her, gave her a hesitant, uncertain look, and then walked passed her without giving her a coconut.

"Alright! Let's start with Wave." Queen Koi said.

"I enchant this coconut to float up into the air and land back into my talons." He said as he stared at the fruit with full concentration. The coconut stared back, unmoving. Wave frowned as he put the coconut down.

Queen Koi moved onto Trout and nodded.

Sapphire watched her brother do the same as Wave but nothing happened. She looked down at the ground, wanting to leave since there was no point of even being here if she would just be ignored or taunted. But she didn't want them to taunt and laugh at her for running away.

"Aquaria." Queen Koi said as she stopped in front of the light blue princess. "Oh! I love your necklace!" She complemented even though she was the one who gave it to her.

"Why, thank you!" Aquaria smiled as she straightened to let them sparkle in the sun.

"You may go." The queen said with a hint of excitement in her tone.

Don't get your hopes up to high... Sapphire thought as Aquaria repeated what her brothers had said. Once again, the coconut did not move.

"Hello??" Aquaria growled at the coconut as the queen frowned in disappointment. "I said float up, you stupid useless coconut! Float now or I'll break you against a rock!"

Queen Koi sighed and stood. "I suppose that's it for today then. Let's just all head back.."

"What? No! I'm an animus! Trust me, I am!" Aquaria pleaded.

"Oh, really? Have you ever even cast a working spell before?" Wave taunted.

"Shut up Wave! I wasn't talking to you." Aquaria snarled. "And you failed as well!"

"Come on, my little seashell.." Queen Koi said as she led Aquaria back into the water after the princess threw the coconut into a sharp, jagged rock, making it explode into coconut juice and causing bits of the skin and meat to fly in all directions.

Wave and Trout shot Sapphire aggressive looks before diving into the water as well.

Sapphire wanted to curl into a dark cave and cry there forever. No one liked her, they all showed hatred everyday. What was the point of staying here and just enduring it? I'm sick of this place... She thought as she stared at the water.

"You alright?" Trident asked as he sat beside his daughter, looking at her with worry and concern.

"I'm fine." Sapphire replied as she kept her gaze at the sea.

"I know, it's hard with everyone treating you this way.." Trident began.

Yeah, no kidding. Sapphire thought as she narrowed her eyes slightly.

"But trust me, they will accept it soon enough." He said as he wrapped a wing around her.

Yeah, right! When the whole continent decides to float up into the sky! Sapphire thought. He is so bad at cheering dragons up..

Trident waited for Sapphire to reply but when he realized she wouldn't he hesitated before continuing. "You'll grow up and perhaps become queen! Isn't that something to look forward to?"

"Aquaria will kill me before I can even challenge mother at all." Sapphire replied, still staring at the sea. She didn't want to see Trident's fake 'caring' eyes.

"Then maybe some battle training can help boost your skills." He offered.

"Just stop." Sapphire said. "Your not helping in anyway. Your most likely just eager to get me killed already."

"What? No way! I'm trying to cheer you up!" Trident frowned.

"I'm going to go find Sealion and Pelican." Sapphire said before diving into the water. They'll know how to cheer me up. She thought as she headed for the palace.

Sealion and Pelican were Sapphire's only friends. They always stayed by Sapphire's side no matter what. But when it comes to going against the queen, they have to back down. Breaking your loyalty to Queen Koi was the biggest crime and can be punished with death. So they don't exactly do much when it's the queen who's tormenting Sapphire. But Sapphire understood why her friends stayed quiet when they end up in that situation.

Sapphire opened the door to a room labeled Pelican.

"Hi Pelican." Sapphire flashed as she swam up beside a light blue and white SeaWing who was staring at his homework with boredom and exhaustion.

"Oh! Hi Sapphire! How did it go..?" He replied with a slight frown full of doubt.

"Not great. You were right.." Sapphire sighed as bubbles came out of her mouth and floated up to the ceiling.

" Oh..I'm sorry..Your going for plan B now, aren't you? You sure you want to do that?" Pelican frowned with uncertainty.

"Yes." Sapphire nodded. "I've dealt with this for to long. Let's get Sealion and move away to a new home."
