Riley and Madeline (original special): April 9, 1988

Plot

The special begins in the evening.

Woman closes the window.

Man walks into the house with bread as the two birds look from the lap, and a post man played the accordion on the streets.

Narrator: In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines lived

13 little girls in two straight lines.

as the twins slides down the banister

as the Girls curtsy "Bonjour"

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. DINING ROOM - NIGHT

Miss Clavel and the girls around the table for dinner.

The Girls "We love our bread, we Love our butter, but most of all we Love each other."

Narrator:

In two straight lines they broke their bread

Brushed their teeth, and went to bed.

The 13 girls began to have a pillow fight, it gets crazy until one of the girls were scared by monster's (when really it was Riley and Madeline pulling a prank like usual), the girls eventually fall asleep that night.

Narrator: They left the house at half past nine, in rain - or shine. Such good little girls in two straight lines, except the smallest, Madeline.

The next morning, all the girls and Miss Clavel were walking. They were amused by the clown, saw a criminal get arrested by the officer, and the girls gave their balloons to a wounded soldier.

Most of the time when the girls walk everyday, Riley and Madeline usually are the ones that get distracted or when they see something imaginative. Miss Clavel watches over the twins for the rest of the walk.

When they reach the footbridge over the Seine River, Madeline and Riley both jumped on the ramp frightening Miss Clavel.

Narrator: To little creatures, she was nice; and she was not afraid of mice.

As the 11 Girls were Yelling

Riley said "shh don't scar this mice's"

Madeline said "they are our Friends"

Narrator: To the tiger at the zoo, Madeline just said...

Madeline: Pooh-pooh.

Narrator: And nobody knew quite so well... how to frighten Miss Clavel.

Fly Air Riley Song Plays

Madeline meets two mice that live in the walls of the Vine Covered house which was the school. All the other girls were scared, but Madeline and Riley decided to adopt the mice as their pets.

Narrator: In that vine-covered house, all was happy and fine - till that morning the girls left in those two straight lines. It was fall in Paris, a very cold day, but poor Riley did not want to play.

Riley was sitting on the bench watching the leaves fall from the Autumn trees, but she still didn't feel like saying a thing.

She watched everyone play on this chilly day, but Riley still didn't want to play.

"What's wrong Riley? Don't you want to play with the other girls?'' Asked Madeline

"Oui my twin, but my 'voice' feels a little funny today" said Riley

As Riley was about to say something, she couldn't speak at all.

Madeline was worried that same day.

Madeline said "Riley you love Soccer, We'll have to forfeit the game. You are one of the best players!"

The Juggling clown pop out to play , but Riley just walked away.

Madeline said "Sorry Mr. Clown, next time"

Riley nodded, and said "Sorry Madeline, but I rather just sit and watch the Soccer game from this bench."

When the girls got home, it was dinner time and Riley doesn't feel hungry so she fed the mice instead.

Riley's voice was non existent that day, normally she would not feel that way.

Narrator: In the middle of the night, Miss Clavel turned on her light and said,

"Something is not right."

Miss Clavel open the girls bedroom door.

When Miss Clavel came in , the girls were in shock.

"Miss Clavel! Riley can't speak!" shouted Madeline

"Oui, she still hasn't said a word! We must call !" said Miss Clavel

In less than an hour, made his way to the vined house near the Eiffel Tower.

Dr. Cohn came quickly by to see what made Riley not speak.

Dr. Cohn said "Madeline could you wait with your friends please I need to see Riley alright"

Riley look in her twin sister eye to let her know that she would be alright.

Dr. Cohn said "Riley open your Mouth please"

Dr. Crohn told Riley "Say Ahhh"

Just as he knew it, she had severe Tonsillitis .

"She must be operated at once, otherwise Riley's throat will be infected"

The girls and Miss Clavel watched as Dr. Crohn took Riley in his arms. Everyone cried in sight, as the girls saw the van drive away that night.

Miss Clavel said "don't worry Mes Petite everything well be alright"

In a car with one red light, they drove out into the night. When the girls awoke the next day, Riley was still away.

Narrator:

The next day, all the girls wondered if Riley was ok. They were all debating on what the Tonsils are.

Miss Clavel was also waiting patiently on how Riley's procedure turned out. The doctor's say that Riley's surgery was a success, and she will need plenty of rest.

The cold chilly fall breeze where the orange leaves begin to sway, Riley Fogg was feeling better that day.

Narrator :

In the night, without a pout, that bad. Tonsils was taken out. Riley woke up several hours later in a room with flowers.

She enjoys the relaxation in the hospital that day.

Riley sit up in bed and look around "Okay, Madeline must be in the next room on the right."

Nurse Jennifer said "Well Riley ready to drink a little water?"

Nothing was the same since Riley left, the girls became disorganized with their daily routine.

They smiled at the bad (?) frowned at the good, and it wasn't like them at all.

Until Miss Clavel took all the girls to visit Riley that fall.

Miss Clavel took the little girls on the bus to the markets to help pick out the perfect gifts for Riley.

They decided to bring a get well card, and a stuffed bear for Riley. At the hospital there was flowers, toys, and tons of other gifts from close family and relatives.

Miss Clavel talked with Dr. Cohn about Riley's aftercare instructions.

Narrator: Back at the house, the girls said a prayer that Madeline would soon be there.

With their bravest away, they weren't amused. Their daily routine became very confused.

Madeline lead the girls though out their walk. They smiled at the bad, and frowned at the good.

Chloe said "I have a feeling that was not correct"

Nicole said "oh chill it was Madeline's first time leading us"

Chloe said "Yes I am just so confused"

At dinner and most of all we love each other

Danielle said "huh"

Madeline said " First we brush our bread then head to bed"

The next morning Madeline said "Riley you are alright?"

Riley said "Madeline I thought you were next door!" they both laughed.

Miss Clavel said "Dr. Chon is everything alright with Riley?"

"She seems to been recovering quite well "said Dr. Cohn, "She appears to be talking normally as before he lost her voice, Riley should be ok in a few more days then I'll send her home very soon."

He mentions what Riley should and shouldn't eat during the rest of the recovery process. The girls were very cheerfully happy when Riley FINALLY came home.

"I'm home mes amis!" said Riley "It's been lonely and boring without you guys."

"RILEY! Riley is home!" Shouted all the girls.

Riley and Madeline hugged each other, and went to go explore the rest of the Vined House Riley missed the most.

The twins went to the kitchen to see where their pet mice were.

Later on, everyone went outside to go play Soccer with Riley.

This time, Riley played along with the rest of the twelve little girls that cold Fall day.

Madeline said "It was a good thing they are letting us have a rematch!"

Riley said "Yeah"

Winter arrives. Madeline is showing off her ice skating talents to the other girls, and she plus Riley both befriend a snowman.

It's one day in Winter, and all the girls go for a walk. Madeline doesn't feel like her normal self. She didn't feel like doing anything that she used to love that made her happy, so she sat back and watched the other girls play in the snow.

Christo said "Marvel! How these little girls can skate."

Miss Clavel said "Ah oui merci! Our Madeline is our finest skater. Madeline, show the Monsieur your Triple Jumper!"

Madeline says, "Non non pardon, not today Miss Clavel"

Chloe said "Come on Madeline you are so good!"

Madeline said "Merci but not today Chloe, I will just sit here and watch"

Mice appear out of the Snowman's hat.

Madeline Sighs

Narrator: Even when she watched the mice skating gaily on the Ice, the poor petit things refused to smile even for a little while.

As the girls left the Ice skate pond Riley said "Maddie whats up? You are never this quiet"

Narrator: The Juggling clown popped out to play, but Madeline just walked away.

Riley said "Sorry can't play today clown. Bye"

Narrator: By the time they reached the Zoo, 11 Girls walk two by two.

Chloe said "Where is Madeline or Riley?"

Nicole said "Yes, they must scare the Tiger back!"

Miss Clavel said "Oui Oui, where are they?"

Danielle said "Riley! Madeline!"

All the girls called "Riley! Madeline!"

Nicole said "Monsieur, have you seen twin girls? one black hair, and one red?"

Chloe "Look in the Birds" "Riley! Madeline!"

Danielle "Look to the Monkey's" "Riley & Madeline!"

Miss Clavel said "Riley! Madeline!"

"Riley! Madeline!"

"Hmm the duck pond!"

"Madeline Madeline are you alright? Riley you two can't just wonder off like that again."

Riley said "Oui Miss Clavel but we wanted to see the duck , so we take a short cut though the bears walkway"

Madeline says, "Oui Oui Miss Clavel just a little tired"

Miss Clavel said "Aha fatigue! I think you little girls stayed up later last night after I had turned off the light" as she picked Madeline up in her arms.

Madeline said "Oui Miss Clavel"

Riley "Walk beside Miss Clavel"

Miss Clavel said "Come Mes Petite Madeline, we need you at the Tiger cage. Nicole is so scared."

Madeline said "Pooh"

The Tiger kept on growling.

Riley said "Madeline you are normally sound then that Pooh pooh"

Tiger stopped and looked at Riley.

Riley said "Done"

So Miss Clavel had to carry her home.

At dinner, Girls: We love our bread, we love our butter, and most of all, we love each other.

Madeline lost her appetite and gave her food to her mice.

Riley and the girls were sad and lonely since Madeline's emergency surgery due to Appendicitis.

Riley didn't feel like playing Soccer, or pranking the other girls.

The girls were concerned for Riley, they knew she was not usually like this.

Then again, she knew what it was like to be in the hospital for a long time.

The girls still wondered what an appendix is, even Riley didn't know either.

"The appendix is... a hole in her arm?"

"No no, the appendix is a... hole in her head?"

It is Yvette that told them the appendix is the thing in the tummy.

Days and weeks go by, the little girls still cried because Madeline was not by their side.

The girls thought it would be forever, that was when Miss Clavel said "Madeline is doing better, we shall visit her soon."

And so the girls left to visit her that afternoon.

Riley was anxious to see her sister, because she truly did miss her.

As they stop at the same gift shop, the girls looked high and low to find the perfect gift to wrap with a bow.

However the girls don't know how much they would need to pay, they didn't have much to say.

Narrator: Then Miss Clavel said, "It would be so pleasant to stop and get Madeline a beautiful present."

Riley "Is this where you brought me my present at last time?"

Chloe said "Yes look!"

Man said "Only 843 franks for this fabulous vintage carousel"

Riley said "Hmm it looks old"

Man said "For you only 842 franks"

Miss Clavel said "Oh Chloe you can't get that for Madeline! Look for something small Ma Cherie"

Nicole said "Come we well get something smaller."

Riley said "Yes bye OVER PRICED man"

Danielle said "One ice cream please"

Miss Clavel said "Oh Danielle you can't get that ice cream for Madeline, look for something that doesn't drip Ma Cherie"

Chloe said "Come we will get Madeline something that doesn't drip"

Riley said "Yum ice cream Hey" Danielle said "Come Riley you can help us"

Miss Clavel said "Can you put this into a cup please?"

The ice cream man said "Sure"

Danielle said "What should we do, there must be something for Madeline. Boy Riley was easy shopping for last time"

Nicole said "I don't Know what we can get 'Eik! Eik!' A Mouse!"

Riley said "Your guys oh brother! Mister is this your mouse?"

Man said "Why yes I am sorry if I scared your friends. Do not 'Eik Eik' mes enfants, these Mice are't real"

Nicole, Danielle and Chloe said "The perfect thing for Madeline ahh"

Man said "And may I interest you in one of these lovely Tigers?"

Riley said "Oui Oui this is much better. Madeline would love to say pooh pooh to this, how much it is Sir for wrapping?" Chloe said

Man said "Riley for you it will be on the house, wait right here please"

"Visitors from two to four" read a sign outside her door. As tiptoeing with solemn face, with some flowers and a vase, in they walked, and then said: "Ahh!" when they saw the toys and candy and the dollhouse from Papa.

Madeline was happy when she saw the girls, Riley runs to her twin and everyone has their thrills.

"Oh my dear twin, it's great to see you again!" said Riley

They played with all the toys, and shared many joys. Then Madeline started to say.

"Voila my scar!" Madeline said that day.

*Madeline sings "Voila my Scar"

Miss Clavel: Come, mes petite. It is time for us to go. You and Madeline have made a lovely show.

Narrator: "Goodbye," they said. "We'll come again."

Girls: Goodbye! We'll come again.

Narrator: And the little girls left in the rain.

Chloe said "Poor Madeline she has to stay in bed"

Nicole said "Yes with all these toys and candies"

Danielle said "and the Doll house"

Narrator: They went home and broke their bread.

Girls: [in unison; We love our bread, we love our butter, and most of all, we love each other.]

We love our bread, we love our butter, and most of all, we love each other.

Narrator: and brushed their teeth, and went to bed.

Riley and the girls still missed their friend, they thought her hospital stay would never end.

The girls drew on their stomachs their appendix scars so well, they knew it will frighten Miss. Clavel.

Then in the Middle of the night, Miss Clavel turned on the light and said "Something is not right!"

Something is quite wrong.

Narrator: And afraid of a disaster, Miss Clavel ran fast and faster.

Narrator:

Miss Clavel said "Please children do tell me what is troubling you?"

Narrator: And all the girls cried

Girls: We wanted to have our appendix out too!

Voila!

Dainelle said "Our scars!"

Nicole said 'look a B"?'

Chloe said 'and Look a Tree" '?

Lulu said 'look at me'

Anna said 'and me'

Riley said 'look at me Miss Clavel"

Miss Clavel laughed "Good night, little girls. Thank the Lord you are well. And now, go to sleep."

Narrator: Said Miss Clavel.

[Miss clavel laughs as she approaches the door; she then turns out the light and closes the door]

Narrator: She turned out the light and closed the door. And that's all there is. There isn't any more.
