SEASON 1

Chapter 1: The Collision.

"What is her quirk?"

A pause…a very long pause. The man was waiting for the woman to answer, but she knew her response would not satisfy him, in fact it would probably infuriate him. She did not know what to say, she could lie, however if he ever found out…

"Her quirk…?" She knew his patience was wearing thin.

"She…she has a quirk similar to her ancestors from my side- "

"That's all I needed to know. Get out and take that child with you."

"Wait, please. 'That child' is also yours- "

"That is not my child. If you ever utter a word about these past few years, you're finished."

She took a large gulp; fear began to enter her body. She would not defy hem. She couldn't. She focused her gaze onto the door to her left, her eyes glued to that zinc white door with a deep red heart on the centre. For her safety.

"Why are you still in my presence?! I'm heading out if you're still here by the time I come back- "

"We'll be gone by then."

Present

This is the day. The day I follow my dreams. U.A. High School. There is an entrance exam there today, I'll be attending, if I pass, I'll-I'll be one step closer to becoming a hero. I looked at myself at the mirror, content. A frown began to arise when I saw a peculiar thing that I can never get used to. My hair was black, but a few strands of my hair were a different colour- an odd colour which I have yet been accustomed to. Mama doesn't have that hair colour so why do I have it? I've always tried to dye it black but after 24 hours, it would always revert back to its original odd colour.

"Good morning, Mama" I perked. I saw out of the corner of my eyes, that Mama gave me an odd look.

"I'm guessing this sudden happiness is because the exam is today."

"Ding, ding, ding!" I giggled whilst saying, I was waiting for a response, but one never came. I brushed it off and went to get onigiri that was prepared and waiting to be devoured at the table. I stared at it as if it were my prey and I was its predator. I grabbed the food and began to take big bites. Maybe I should've slowed down. There was cold water at the counter, I grabbed it, and immediately drank it without taking any breaks. I took a heavy breath and was about to say goodbye to Mama but-

I stared at Mama to see a frown. When she realised, I was actually serious about wanting to become a hero, those frowns began. When I was younger, I would say it constantly, but she thought I wasn't serious so she would always encourage me but it slowly changed.

"Mama? Do you not want me to be a hero?" I took a breath, what if she says no. Mama is my life, I've always listened to her, we only have each other in this world and she was always there for me, so, do I not take the exam? Do I not become a hero, then?

A pause.

Another pause.

"Of course, I do, Kaori." I let out a heavy breath. I didn't realise I was holding my breath until she said that.

Relief.

"Why would you even think that?" This time she ushered me to sit down next to her, I gladly took her up on her offer.

"You- "

I took a heavy breath.

"You sometimes look off when I talk about becoming a hero." That off look came back again. "See like now." I presumed.

"That doesn't mean I don't want you to become a hero. I just worry. What if you become a hero and leave the house and never return? What am I supposed to do then? What if it's too much for you to handle? What if- "

"Mama. All this 'what if' is not healthy. I will be fine. I can and will handle everything. If I do become a hero and walk out that door and not return, at least I'll be proud about the fact that I will die trying- "

The fear was evident in her face. "Which I'm sure won't happen!" I quickly added.

"Sorry, Kaori. I'm fussing over nothing. Go to your exam and make me proud."

I gave a vigorous nod and gave Mama a light kiss on the cheek before leaving.

As I was walking, my eyes caught sight of a boy with black hair with a tint of green. He was stiff. Very stiff. I began to realise that he was shaking with every step he took. All of a sudden, he was standing, but then he began to tumble. But he didn't fall, he was just in mid air. Strange. I saw a girl beside him, maybe that's her quirk? No, Kaori, this isn't the time to be worrying about others, instead fix your trembling hand. I slapped my left hand against my right hand, hoping it will cause the shaking to stop but it didn't. I hid my right arm, so that no one could notice the trembling.

I entered the room and saw many different and unfamiliar faces. I'm not used to this. Deep breaths, Kaori. I walked slowly, and the only available seat was next to a blonde-haired boy. Just as I was about to sit down, he put his leg on the seat. Maybe he didn't see me and thought no was one was going to sit there.

"Sorry, but can I sit there?" I spoke without any crack. I deserve a medal for not hesitating. He didn't move an itch and continued to stare at the front.

"Sorry, excuse me- "

"Awh, gosh damn! What do you want, woman?!" I was taken aback by that voice was gruff with a hint of croakiness. It was also very loud. If looks could kill, I would probably be 6 feet under with that look.

"Find another one, this one's occupied!"

"Kacchan, maybe you should- "

"Shut it, Deku!"

I realised the boy who tried to speak up was the boy from earlier. He did speak to the other boy, who I'm assuming he knows, in a very cold manner. Who did he think he was? "Excuse me, Kacchan- "

"Don't call me that! Don't say Kacchan!" The way he said that name was with disgust. His face actually wanted to make her laugh, but since she didn't want to anger him more, so she covered her mouth with her hand to hide her smirk. But apparently, he noticed that, and he looked like he wanted to explode her.

"Woman, fix your mad red hair before you start laughing!" He was laughing. It was a patronising laughter. He was looking down at her as if she were below him and not worthy of his time and that fuelled her anger.

I stiffened at that. I didn't take it lightly when it came to that part of her hair. It's weird, yes, I know. Countless people have reminded be, I'm already insecure about it, people don't need to keep dragging it on, constantly reminding her.

"My hair's fine, you should at least- "

You know what, I'm tired. I won't stoop to his level and be immature. Mama taught her always be calm around angry people because deep down they know they lost since they didn't manage to rile you up.

"There are no other seats. So, if you'll move your leg, I would like to sit down."

When he realised, I changed the subject, the smirk on his face disappeared; his eyes narrowed, and his eyebrows raised. "Tch- don't change the subject, woman!"

I repeated the question ignoring his remark, causing him to be even more angry. If that were even possible.

He was taking very long to decide and the look that he gave me as if he wanted to blow me up never once left, but once a teacher from U.A. High School came in, he reluctantly moved his leg.

Finally…

When I talk a good look at the teacher, I recognised him. The Voice Hero, Present Mic. He was energetic, maybe too energetic, but that was what made him fun.

"Shut up, "I looked to my right to hear Kacchan say something, and realised Deku was having a 'moment' for seeing Present Mic and it somehow irritated Kacchan.

"As it says in the application requirements, you listeners will be conducting ten-minute mock urban battles after this! After this explaination, you'll head to your designated battle center!" Present Mic explained. I looked at the small piece of paper on the table and grabbed it and saw others around me do the same. I looked at my piece of paper and saw-

"Exam Ticket"

"Examinee No: 2232"

"Test Location: Battle Center B

I was listening to Kacchan and the boy, whose name I do not know, converse. I wonder what center they're in. I felt like I was spying on them and that I was in a place I wasn't even meant to be in the first place whilst listening, so I decided to stop but just as I was about to, I heard-

"Don't look. I'll kill you." I had to supress my laughter. He was obviously disrespectful yet it was funny.

"Three different types of faux villains are stationed in each battle center. You earn points from each of them based on their difficulty. Your goal, dear listeners is to earn points by immobilizing the faux villains. Attacking other players are prohibited."

One of the examinees, raised their hand quite boldly and asked if they could ask a question, once their request was accepted, they began to speak. "You said there were 3 faux villains, however on this printout, it clearly shows an extra one. If this was a misprint from U.A. High School, the most prominent high school in Japan, then you should be ashamed."

Wow, he's got guts to talk to a hero in that manner. Respect but also foolish, what if Present Mic was going to explain the extra faux villain?

When I thought he was over, he turned around swiftly but it was also stiff. "And you over there haven't stopped muttering ever since we arrived. If you think this is a joke, leave!"

"I-I'm sorry!" The boy with green hair quickly spoke avoiding eye contact with anyone.

Once the examinee finished talking, Present Mic began to speak again. "Yes, there is a fourth faux villain, but that villain is worth zero points. They are an obstacle that you should avoid. They are not impossible to beat but you gain nothing from beating them!" Present Mic continued.

"I'll give you listeners our school motto. A hero once said 'a true hero is someone who overcomes life's misfortunates.' Go beyond. Plus Ultra!"

I was shaking. Not from nervousness, or fear. But from excitement.

The exam is beyond that door. As soon as I run through that door, it begins. She couldn't control her excitement. The shaking was proof enough. She looked around her to see other examinees and many of them remained calm and composed. No fear or excitement evident on their face or posture. No, I mustn't compare myself. Her eyes laid sight upon the green haired boy, he was shaking, but his one looked from nervousness rather than excitement. She was going to go try calm him down but something else caught her attention. Light. I looked up at the sun, it was lively today, wasn't it?

Lucky me.

My quirk would work better then.

I felt a breeze near me and looked back in front of me and saw everyone looking at the green haired boy as if he shouldn't even be considered a rival. Harsh, much? Sure, he seemed very fragile, however we shouldn't judge. But-

"Okay, start!"

Start meaning the exam has begun, meaning I shouldn't be thinking about others right now other than myself, meaning I should be running.

"What's wrong? There are no countdowns in real fights! Run, run!"

Right, I should be running.

My feet finally lifted and I felt myself darting. My quirk would mean she should be as fast as light, but she hasn't reached her quirk's full potential. She's slow compared to light but faster than most of the examinees."

She stopped in her tracks once a faux villain came crashing out of a building. It was worth 2 points. You can do this. You trained. The faux villain was rushing towards me and it lifted its arm, sending a large laser coming her way. She dodged quickly, her movements quick due to her quirk. She ran towards the faux villain, slowly raising her hand then begun to bend her hand backwards causing light, which was formed like a ball, to appear in her hands and she threw it towards the faux villain. Once it hit the faux villain, an explosion rang.

My quirk is Light Manipulation. I can control light but there has to be a source.

Many minutes into the exam.

I made a small blade filled with light and it made a blow with the faux villain causing it to explode. Once the object disappeared, I began to feel out of breath. "52 points," I muttered. I walked slowly and looked around me to see the faux villains were lessening rapidly.

I began to hear glass breaking, the noise intensifying as it got closer and closer. I looked up to see a very large faux villain. That's the one that's worth 0 points. It lifted its arm and tightened it's grip on its knuckles. Wait. Don't tell me it's going for a-

Its arm begun to move and its fist was heading straight for us. I moved back right away avoiding making contact with that faux villain. Once, people dodged succesfully, they began to ran away, I turned around and was about to move when I heard a wince. I turned back around and saw a figure on the floor. I couldn't make out the figure. I was about to head over to the figure when the green haired boy began to run. What?! That's dangerous but then I realised- there was a girl. He was protecting that girl. I rushed to the girl to take the boulders off of her and my eyes once again returned to the boy. He flung himself towards the faux villain and raised his arm and then his arm and the faux villain's head connected. The faux villain exploded. What quirk was that? The power from just that punch. The boy then started to fall, his arm and legs flailing. Was it broken? Before he made a connection with the ground, the girl slapped him across the face causing him to float. I heard her mutter something about release and they both made it to the ground peacefully. Lucky him.

I heard people utter nonsense about how he recklessly destroyed the faux villain with no intention. Yes, it was reckless, but it was not pointless, he did it to save the girl, which is the essence of being a hero. Yet, in the face of danger, people ran and I was just about to run, but he stayed. Wait a minute? Essence of being a hero? Saving? What if that was the point of that faux villain? To see who- This is too much thinking! I unconsciously brought my index finger towards my temple, something I do when I'm trying to think.

My thinking was disrupted when the corner of my eye saw Recovery Girl. Recovery girl was heading straight towards the green haired probably to heal him. She puckered her lips and brought it towards his head. Immediately, the once purple arm was back to its original colour and his incapacitated legs reverted back to a fitting one.

It's been a week since the entrance exam. She hasn't received anything from U.A High School. She couldn't help but be nervous as to what they might say. Pass or Fail. She hoped it was the former. If it was, then she'd be one step closer to being a hero.

"Stressing about it won't do you any good. Why not try and be optimistic, sweetie?"

I slowly chewed the rice, deep in thought. Deep down she knew Mama was right but it's easier said than done. Just because someone said to not stress doesn't mean you're automatically going to stop stressing.

"Why not try to distract yourself?" It was as if Mama could read her mind as Mama suggested a way to stop stressing. I looked up at her and tilted my head slightly.

"By doing what?"

"Umm, let's watch those videos of all your favourite heroes- "

A noise.

"I'll go check what that noise is sweetie. Continue eating your food."

I stared at the food. Normally, I would've finished the food in about an instant, but her nerves are slowly eating her up. Day by day. The longer she doesn't know her result, the more she gets eaten. I sighed, tired of feeling this same feeling for the past 7 days. Apprehension. Maybe she should distract-

"K-Kaori?!," Mama came rushing in.

"K-Kaori!" She repeated much louder.

I gave her a confused look and she took that as a queue to continue speaking. "T-The results came! Look at my hand, the envelope!" She dashed towards me handing me the envelope. I always imagined that if I saw the envelope, I would take it with no hesitation but now that the moment has finally come, my hand froze.

"Kaori?"

I should grab the envelope. Rip the envelope. Immediately read it, so that it can somehow calm down my nerves. However, I grabbed the envelope at a snail's pace, once the envelope was in my grasp, I took a large gulp.

"M-Mama, can I go to my room?" My voice was shaking.

"Of course, sweetie. Come back to me with good news!"

I strolled towards my room. Once I set foot into my room, I apprehensively opened the envelope, and an object came out of the envelope. I held it in my still trembling hands and placed it on my table, and a blue light emitted from the object and it revealed the points we got. My eyes scanned the list of names and stopped once I saw my name. I looked at my row-

Villain Points – 52

Rescue Points – 40

Those points were pretty good but were those points good enough for U.A. High School. The paper will reveal that. I took the paper that was inside the now ripped envelope, and saw that the paper was completely unharmed. I took the paper and slowly opened it, my heart beating faster every second. The nervousness returned. I read the paper but halted once I saw the word.

PASS

It was written in bold; it was clearly written like that, so that it was adamantly clear that I passed the test. And that was all I needed to see for the nervousness, agitation and fear to subside.

She was going to go to U.A. High School.

A school where the majority of pro heroes went to.

A school she is now going to.

My name is Kaori Nakamura, and this is my adventure.

Quirk: Light Manipulation. She can control light (using it for offense and defense) from light sources, sun light being the strongest source. However, in the night, her Quirk is not very strong due to there being no sun light.
