The Last Magick User

Prologue

In the midst of the war between humanity and demons, there was a neutral faction that didn't want to get involved in the conflicts of man, the Order of Magick. It was a group of powerful wizards secluded from others, living at the great Castle of Aldrheim. Even the gods from above were not aware of their existence. Hidden from civilization, they hone their skills by studying and practicing the eight elements of magick.

These elements are water, life, shield, cold, lightning, arcane, earth and fire. They can be mixed and combined to form new spells. Up to five elements can be linked together, but do remember that some elements don't work with their opposing counterpart. Like for example cold and fire cannot be combined. But new elements can also be formed by combining two others. Fire and Water can create Steam while Water and cold can form Ice.

They are also special spells called "Magick" that require a specific combination of elements and produce unique effects. But the wizard must first read a specific type of spellbook to be able to use those types of spells.

But not all people can possess such abilities to use it. Only a few were born to wield such power not many know their existence. This is why the Order of Magick was kept to themselves in order to hide their limitless powers from the evil or corrupt beings that want them to use it for their own selfishness.

Even though the Order of Wizard's castle is well hidden, some creatures tend to wander off to their territory by accident. Those that do were the most unfortunate ones. They become target practice for the devastating spells that the wizards conjure. At one time a group of goblins got incinerated immediately, Other times a troll got struck by lightning out of nowhere. These are all the magick used by the wizards.

For many years the Order of Magick lived a peaceful life… Well for peaceful I mean constantly fighting each other over some simple argument. These fights sometimes come out of hand and end up killing one another. But this was not a problem for them because they have a solution for that. A spell can [Revive] a fellow wizard. It was a common spell and was often used due to the fact that you would likely get killed by a fellow wizard then an enemy.

As the wizards continued their infighting, their number dwindled and only a handful remained. After dying and being revived countless times, they began to… deteriorate.

Only the elderly remained along with one last young wizard. This young one was found at a destroyed village when the old wizards set out on a stroll a few years ago. The village was destroyed by the forces of chaos. Orcs ate the remains of the men, trolls toppled down the houses, and goblins violated the women. After the wizards easily obliterated the monsters, they took in the child of no more than 5 years of age as nothing was left alive of his former home.

Call it fate or mere coincidence, the wizards saw the boy had the potential to use the power they had. So they taught and trained the boy in their way of magick. However, he was seen as an abnormality in the eyes of his fellow wizards. Not be because he was weird or stupid, but because he was the only wizard that had common sense. He thought that fighting each other was wrong, which made the elder wizards laugh at him.

Even so, the young wizard was one of the smartest and wisest of them all… in normal standards. The Order of Magic was a bunch of weirdest after all. In the 12 years of staying in the castle, the boy had far exceeded the elders' expectations. But what made this wizard more peculiar is that he exercised and did physical training. I mean, what kind of wizard does that? Said the elders.

In the mind of the young wizards, even though you are strong in one aspect doesn't mean you shouldn't strive to get stronger in the other things. He already mastered the art of spell casting and knows plenty of Magick. The elders didn't forbid it due to his achievements so he was allowed to do such things. Swords, spears, knives and many other weapons, he tried all the weapons he could find.

The one thing the young wizards regretted is that he never met the legendary brilliant teacher of Castle Aldrheim, Vlad, not a vampire. He was informed that he was on a decade-long vacation. But he felt that he would meet him one day.

But alas, as the years go by and the elder wizards got more senile. They've decided to die in one last epic battle against each other as a last remembrance of their youth. They tasked the young wizard to watch over the castle when they are gone… Well, that was the plan.

The last four elder wizards fought each other which took place just outside the castle. There was the Red wizard, Blue wizard, Green wizard and Yellow wizard. They all got their names according to the color of their robe. By the way the young wizard wore black robes so in turn his name is Black Wizard.

Anyway, the fight between them was a glorious battle. By glorious I mean destructive. Yellow casted [Tornado] which accidentally hit the caste. Green casted [Conflagration] which also hit the castle. Blue castes [Vortex] which took a large part of the caste. And lastly Red, casting [Meteor Shower] that finally destroyed the castle along with the surrounding caste. The battle might have sounded epic, but no. They all casted at the same time which killed them immediately. It was anticlimactic really.

They've asked the young wizard to not revive them when they've died. But even if he wanted to, there were no remains left to even use the [Revive] spell with. This only left him with a broken down castle with nothing to live at. He spoke his last words to his dead elders while looking at the remains of the castle.

"They really are idiots…"

But the young wizard didn't mind his situation. Actually, this was perfect for him. He was thinking of a reason to leave the castle and go on an adventure. The teen had heard of stories of his predecessors on helping others, fighting evil and even saving the world. Though no one knows the stories except them.

Before he could prepare his plans. He casted [Rain] to extinguish the flames from the castle and the forest. Clouds formed in seconds and showered upon the land. It felt weird for him really. Abilities that could create chaos and disorder. But he wouldn't do that, he knew that there was more that he could do for the good of others and not just destruction.

First actions for his plans on his adventures, go to the basement of the castle and gather all the useful things he would bring. He was already told that all the possessions of the castle were his now so he didn't have to hold back. Right now he only has a {Blunt Blade} in his right hand and a {Basic Wizards Staff} in his left hand.

Going down the basement, there were a series of traps and defense mechanisms laid out incase of thieves. The traps were never put to action. Only the wizards can bypass them safely. [Fire] element was needed to light the torches in order to access the hidden floor, [Lightning] to generate electricity for the generator to activate the metal doors, [Cold] to freeze the water that led the way to the next room, and other elements with specific combinations.

It was quite easy for the young wizard. But on the last line of defense, A giant floating eye was guarding the door that led to the treasure room. Normally it was friendly to the wizards, but due to the death of the elders it attacked everything on sight.

Thankfully the Black was quick to react, casting a [Shield] in front of him to deflect the disintegrating beam that shot out from the eye of the beast. While the shield slowly loses its durability, the young wizard was already charging a powerful spell that he called "Nightmare Hailstone". It is a combination of one [Earth] and four [Ice] elements. Once fully charged, he waited for the shield to disappear and released the spell onto the Eye creature.

The creature got destroyed into tiny meat chunks when it came in contact with the attack. It was one of the most powerful non-magick spells there is. With that out of the way, he proceeded inside the treasure room.

When he got inside, he saw different kinds of weapons and robes. Some beyond his comprehension. He felt troubled at first on what to choose to bring. But his troubles were solved when he saw a leather pouch. It was no ordinary pouch, it was a magical one that can store a ridiculous amount of items in it without weight restrictions.

So the logical thing the young wizard did was take all of the weapons and robes inside the treasure room, including the gold, wine and most specially, cheese. It wasn't going to be used anyway so he thought that he might as well put them to use.

The items range from a {Broken Sword} to a {Staff of Everlasting Support}. There were also some weird items to him like the {Sausage-on-a-Stick} and the {Excalibur}. The former was as the name suggests while the latter is just a sword stuck on a rock.

After packing his other things he set off in his journey. Just outside the castle he saw wandering moose that approached the vicinity. The young mage saw this as a chance of transportation. He used the magick [Charm] to befriend the curious beast and rode it to wherever his journey may lead.

X-x-X-x-X

After a month of travelling alone with the moose, he found himself lost at an unknown land. He had to cross steep valleys, fight harsh blizzards, go through murky swamps, just to get where he is at. He had formed a strong bond with the moose through the hardships they've experienced. It was closest to a friend he had ever had. The wizards back in the castle ignored him while they could.

With the attachments to the creature, the young wizard named the moose "Brownie" due to it's brown fur. The beast liked it's new name and licked the face of the wizard as a sign of appreciation. The two fought other monsters and beasts along their journey. For some reason the monsters saw the moose as a delightful food source. But Black Wizard won't let his friend become dinner on his watch.

Moving on with his adventure, he grew tired only seeing monsters and had yet to see fellow humans. As he looked on top of a cliff for any signs of town, he saw a group of humans for the first time from down a valley. But it wasn't what it seems. He saw that they were all female, naked and bound by the beast that surrounded them. There were also torn off limbs being eaten by those monsters.

A group of goblins had captured humans and used the young girls as they pleased while the men turned into food for them. Black Wizard watched at a distance as his blood boiled by the sight. He remembered what had happened years ago when his village got attacked. His mother had hidden him inside a barrel to safely protect him. The young boy could watch as his mother was raped by goblins.

The young wizard regretted how he couldn't protect his family, on how weak and powerless he was before. But it was different this time. Right now he has Magick, he has the power to protect others. Not wasting another second, he ran towards the location. He left Brownie behind, not wanting the moose to get caught in the battle that will occur.

Donning his sword at wizard robe, he casted [Haste] unto himself to quicken his arrival at the goblin encampment. From what he saw, there were about twenty regular goblins accompanied by two larger ones and one really big one. The larger ones were Hobgoblins while the biggest is a Goblin Champion holding a large metal club.

While he was closing in, he stopped in front of the goblins to halt them from the things they are currently doing. The monsters look at him with a confused look as if they were wondering what the wizard was wondering.

"Robes? Is that a human? He must be a fool marching in alone in this place." A goblin laughed as he spoke to the other goblins.

"You idiot… He could be an elf." Another goblin spoke, not terrified by a lone human.

"Well, he couldn't be a dwarf." A goblin wondered, looking at the physics of the wizard.

"YOU MORONS! WHAT ARE YOU STANDING AROUND FOR?! KILL HIM AND BRING ME HIS BODY!" The Goblin Champion shouted to his underlings. Its orders made the goblin react immediately and charged at the wizard all at once.

"Kill me? Please." The Black Wizard scoffed, preparing a suitable combination of spells to quickly dispatch the goblins. Unknown to the wizard there was someone watching him from the bushes afar, quietly observing him.

The man in hiding wore a cheap looking light armor with chainmail beneath. It was someone who was looking for a way to kill the goblins without killing himself in the process. The number of goblins for this man was too much for him to handle.

If you are wondering why the wizard understood what they said it's because a wizard of Castle Aldrheim can understand any language, including Goblinese.

While the goblins drew closer, Black Wizard already prepared a combination of 3x [Lightning] and 2x [Fire] to his side floating around him. By combining these two, it can shock and burn it's target at the same time while also hitting others. When he released it upon the monsters, it caused a chain reaction of lightning across the goblins while also burning them.

At least fifteen goblins got burned to death while one hobgoblin that got caught ran around hoping to extinguish the flames.

"Roasted goblins, not my best dish." Black Wizard taunted at the remaining goblins. The stench of burnt skin of the goblin instilled fear amongst them.

The man, still hiding from the bushes, was intrigued by the young wizard's skill. He wanted to come out and help him but he felt that he would only get in the way. So in the end he continued to observe.

One goblin tried to run away, only to be killed by the Goblin Champion for fleeing from battle. The other hobgoblin tried to rush the wizard by running towards him, hoping to take him down by sheer force.

But it was for naught, the wizard had already charged a 5x [Earth] spell that was pointing directly at the hobgoblin. Before the monster could reach him, he released the spell and killed the hob, resulting in an explosion of meat all around.

This caused terror on the remaining four goblins so they had no choice but to escape the overwhelming man that stood before them, even if it resulted in being killed by their boss. Two did get killed by the champion while the other two successfully escaped to the woods.

The two goblins that escaped, however, got killed anyway by the man who waited for them in the woods. This man wouldn't let any goblins survive if it's the last thing he did.

The burning hobgoblin from before had gotten rid of the flames over time. The rage within hob boiled as he blindly charged at the wizard. Again, the young wizard was prepared for it.

Enchanting his sword with the elements, Black Wizard waited for the hobgoblin to get in striking range. The sword was coated with a powerful combo called "Steam Electric Imbue". It was a mixture of 1x [Steam], 2x [Arcane] and 2x [Lightning]. Almost insta-kill to any mid-tier opponents.

When the hob was in range of the wizard's attack, He swung the blade and killed it flawlessly. Only Goblin Champion remained standing against him.

The Goblin Champion was perplexed by the abilities of the wizard. Never in its life had seen such magic. His instincts told him to run away but he wouldn't have it. Thinking of a way to be in an advantage, he remembered that it still had the female humans. He thought that he could use it as a shield.

Turning its back on the wizard to run in the direction of the immobile girls, it gave a bored sigh to the boy. It was the moment where the giant goblins' life was going to forfeit.

Combining the combinations for Black Wizard's favorite Magick, death a certain for the Goblin Champion. The components for the special spell were [Steam], [Lightning], [Arcane] and [Lightning]. It must be in this specific order to be able to achieve the wanted spell.

"Thunder Bolt!"

The Black Wizard shouted the name of the spell when he casted it, though it was not necessary. The spells can be casted without uttering the name of it. He just did it because he felt like it was cool at the moment.

Lightning came down from the heavens and struck the behemoth of a goblin. The monster slowly fell down on its knees before falling face flat on the ground, dying from the intense heat of the strike. This also included the insides of the goblin.

To celebrate the Black Wizard's flawless victory, he brought out a banana. He peeled away the skin and took a bite out of it. With a smug face, held the banana with pride and said,

"If only you knew the safe word… You might have lived longer."

Dropping the funny act, the wizard proceeded to the damaged girls. But to his surprise, someone was already there, covering and helping the girls.

The young boy raised his defenses, not wanting to get caught off guard. Although the man in question held up his hand up as a sign of peace.

"Wait. I'm not here to fight you." The man spoke to him.

"Why are you here then?" The young wizard questioned, curious on what was the purpose of the man.

"To kill goblins. But you killed them all, except for the two that escaped. Don't worry, I've taken care of them." The man informed in a calm tone.

The Black Wizard looked at the man more carefully, thinking that maybe the man before him was an adventurer tasked to kill the goblins. He then realized what he had done, he stole someone's work and now felt bad for it.

"Ah… I'm sorry for stealing your work. I didn't realize this was your job." The boy apologized. Even he knew the concept of jobs and quests.

"It's fine. You made my job a lot easier."

"By the way, my name is Black Wizard. But don't mistake me for a Dark Wizard. I'm not evil." The young wizard explained, not wanting a misunderstanding.

"I see. Don't worry, I don't know what a Dark Wizard is. As long as you're not a goblin then you're fine to me." The man said in monotone. He then started counting the dead goblins around, to the boy's confusion.

"So… what's your name?" The boy curiously asked.

"Goblin Slayer."
