If this turns out terribly then at least I can pretend it doesn't exist. Feels almost like I trying again at something I already failed at. Still though, after picturing it in my head for the last three weeks as I listen to music while driving, which fun fact is how I come up with most of my major plot points and story ideas. Let's hesitantly begin.

Jaune Arc didn't understand what he was seeing, his life had been remarkably normal up until this point. He lived in the small of Ansel in the country side of Vale with his family. He was the only son out of the eight children of the Arc family. They weren't rich nor were they poor. His father had been been a huntsmen, and his father before him and so on. He went to school, got tease mercilessly by his many sisters, doted on by their mother and dreamed of becoming a hero like his dad.

A normal upbringing for seven year old boy, this all however left him completely lacking the ability process the horrors before him. Death, so much death.

After another day of dealing with his sisters he decided to run off into the forest and have some alone time, grabbing a stick and wielded it like a sword. With the mighty weapon he fought glorious battles against the grimm liberating the kingdoms of the world, in his imagination at least. After a couple hours of make believe and tiring himself out he turned back to go home, mother was never happy with him coming back to late.

What met him was death. The villagers, the militia... his family. Among the pile of bodies lined up at the village center where a gathering of men wearing black and carrying guns he could see the unmistakable golden hair of his family, all stained red. Everyone, even his younger sisters laid lifeless.

Jaune fell to his knees as his eyes stared wide as a feeling he'd never truly known crashed into with a force most people went their entire lives without experiencing. Jaune struggled to put a name to the feeling.

"We've got another one." One of the men called out after seeing him, on the mans arm was patch with a circle surrounding a cog and a staff in the middle behind all of this was a snow flake, underneath were the numbers three one eight.

"Dammit, he's just a kid." Another responded.

What is this feeling?

"We have our orders, a clean sweep, no survivors." The first said back.

Oh, that's what it is.

One of the men stepped up to Jaune and raised his gun to the childs head. "I'm sorry son, it'll be quick."

Pain

In an instant everything became blindingly bright before going black.

Days Later

Glynda was nervous, this was her first outing as an instructor at Beacon and it was her job to keep this team of first years alive on their first mission. It shouldn't be much of a problem as the mission was rather simple, the village of Ansel had been out of contact with Vale for several days. It was likely just a case of a damaged comms tower, still the possibility of a grimm attack being the cause was present therefore they were sending this team out. According to her files Ansel had a resident Huntsmen as well as a well maintained if small militia so she doubted this was the case.

"Eta three minutes." The pilot said getting hers and the students attention.

"Alright, once we arrive remember not to stray from the group until we fully understand the situation." Glynda explained to the four teenagers.

The team leader, a red haired girl spoke up. "Professor what types of grimm should we expect from this area?"

"Standard variants for Vale, mainly Ursa, Beowu-"

"Holy shit!" The pilot shouted, his voice still coming over the intercom. "Huntress you need to see this now!"

Glynda quickly moved up to the cockpit to see what the pilot was so surprised by, the moment her eyes saw outside the window ahead of them her blood ran cold. "Gods." She whispered in shock before quickly regaining herself. "Set us down half a click away, leave the engines running after we leave and get ahold of Headmaster Ozpin. He needs to know about this." She instructed getting a hesitant nod from the pilot before moving back to her student. "Prepare your weapons, once we disembark none of you are to leave my line of sight that is a direct order." Within another minute the bullhead touched down and the five set out.

It didn't take long at all for them to reached Ansel, or more specifically the location Ansel should be located. "Fuck." One of the students said to himself.

"What the hell happened?" The team leader asked.

Glynda had no answers as she stared down into the massive crater in the ground over a kilometer in diameter, she couldn't see any scorch marks that might suggest some kind of explosive going off nor could she think of any grimm capable of something like this. She briefly considered the possibility of a meteorite strike down but again such a thing would have left evidence of intense heat.

"What's that?" Another student asked pointing down into the crater.

Glynda followed the limb to see a bit of color standing out amid the dirt and stone visible in the crater. "Follow me." She said jumping down into the crater using her semblance to slow her fall. Running she felt a bit of hope build up inside of her as she saw what it was, sitting alone in the crater was a young boy who couldn't be older than eight. He had bright blonde hair an wore a filthy and torn up school uniform. Holding up her hand to the others Glynda approached slowly. "Little boy... are you okay?" She asked in the most gentle voice she could muster. "What happened here?"

The boy reacted slowly, turning to look at them, his hair hiding his eyes. "Men came, then pain." His voice was haunting, there was no life, no happiness. This was not the voice of a child.

Glynda took a few seconds to respond. "Is there anyone else left?"

The boy was silent for several seconds before looking her in the eyes, Glynda would never forget those eyes as long as she lived. Purple with a ripple pattern, eyes that seemed to look through you more than at you. "No, there's nothing left, only pain."

Hours Later

"And when we arrived it was... just gone." Glynda said as she pinched the bridge of her nose. "I've never seen anything like it, there was no sign of battle, no blood or bodies. Not a single sign of extreme heat or fire, know debris. It was like someone simply scooped that entire area of the planet up and removed it." The young huntress was clearly disturbed and tired.

Ozpin nodded as he listened to his newest faculty member vent, she was an incredibly bright woman with the makings of an excellent instructor, something he noticed when attended Beacon several years back. After the unfortunate loss of half her team she retired as a huntress, he managed to convince her to come out of retirement as a teacher. It was a job she took to like a fish to water. "Indeed, I've already received reports from the military units sent in to investigate the area. Tragically so far no other survivors have been found, speaking of, how is the boy?"

Glynda took on almost a sick look. "Dehydrated, half starved, suffering from exposure and severely emotionally damaged. He's refused to speak with anyone since we retrieved him." She frowned deeply. "What will happen to him Headmaster."

Ozpin let out a tired sigh. "He will be treated and receive counseling, unfortunately not likely to an adequate level. If no other family can be located he will most likely be placed into an orphanage, if he's lucky a foster home." Ozpin explained.

Glynda shook her head sadly. "Faunus children are rarely adopted and often struggle after coming of age."

Ozpin raised an eyebrow. "Faunus, the boy is a faunus?"

Glynda nodded. "Yes though what type I have no idea, but those eyes of his..." Before either could speak further a ding sounded from Ozpin's scroll, grabbing it he opened his messages. After a few moments his eyes widened noticeably, quickly he stood from his desk and began walking towards the elevator. "What's happening, did they find something?" Glynda asked following behind him.

"The boy has been taken." He said in a flat tone, anger lace his tone.

"What, how?!" Glynda asked shocked.

"I don't know, but who ever did it killed a pair of nurses, a security officer and a student." His voice still held rage as they lowered in the elevator. "Someone has infiltrated my school, killed my staff and students and taken a child under my establishments care."

Glynda had never heard the seemingly limitlessly wise man sound angry let alone as enraged as he seemed to be. "What will we do?"

Ozpin gripped his cane tightly. "Show them Beacon's might."

The Emerald Forest

Tyrian Callows was a very dedicated man who loved only three things in his life. Serving his goddess, the thrill of risking his life and causing mayhem. Thus when he was ordered by his goddess to infiltrate the very heart of her sworn enemies base of operations to kidnap a child without restrictions of his actions so long as he could escape with the child unharmed, he was beyond ecstatic. His only regret was having to limit the chaos out of fear of getting swarmed by huntsmen and huntresses, he had no fear of death but his dying would mean he failed his mission to bring her the boy, the thought of failing her was far worse than death.

He didn't know why his goddess wanted this boy so badly, badly enough in fact to pull him from his mission to hunt down silver eyed warriors. He'd never heard his goddess sound so... excited before, but he didn't need to know why. Even if it were for no other reason than because she desired to see if he could do it, he would commit himself whole heartedly to the task.

A ringing came from his coat pocket, placing the child on his shoulder still holding him with one arm, he pulled out his scroll. He never stopped running through the grimm infested forest as he answered the call. "Tyrian, what's your current position?" Hazel's unmistakably rough voice sounded over the call.

"Moving westward through the Emerald forest." He responded aware that the usually very reserved and serious man would only call him at a time like this if it was about his current task.

"I'm sending you my coordinates, I've been instructed to wait with the engines hot until you get here. So hurry up." With that the call was ended.

Tyrian check the sent coordinates and adjusted his course, he was three miles out, at a full sprint he could be there in ten minutes. For his goddess he would make it nine. He spared a glance at the unconscious boy on his shoulder, whoever he was his goddess wanted him even more than he thought, to pull both himself and Hazel. A wide smile grew on his face as he sprinted, oh how he loved it when she kept him guessing.

Days Later

Jaune's eyes opened slowly, his stomach growled in hunger and his mouth was dry. He lacked the energy to move more than his head as he look around the room. He was scared about not knowing where he was, he wasn't sad either, he was numb. That all consuming pain he'd felt after seeing what he'd seen, it had left him hollow. "You're awake." A gentle voice spoke catching his attention. Looking to the source he saw a woman like none he'd ever seen sitting at a table holding a book, her skin was stark white with the exception of red markings. She wore a flowing black dress and her white hair was tied back.

As Jaune stared at her he noticed something, his vision had changed. He'd always had great vision, never needing glasses or contacts, but now everything was far more clear and defined than he'd thought was possible. Beyond that he could see other things as well, he could see something within this woman, he had no idea what it could be but it was cold and dark.

The woman set the book down and walked over to the large bed he laid on taking a seat on it's edge. "You're not afraid, are you? No, of course you're not." She shook her head. "After what you been through, loosing all you hold precious, after feeling that pain. What else could there be left to fear?" She maintained a frown on her face. "You are devastated, numb, empty of all feeling. I know that pain, I've felt it more times than I want to remember." She spoke to the silent child who only stared at her with an empty gaze. "I broke me, for so long it broke me." She closed her eyes for several seconds. "Then I found my purpose." She allowed a small smile to form.

"What was it." He finally spoke, his dry throat barely letting out a whisper.

She smiled before gently placing a hand on his cheek. "I realized any world that has this much hate in it is bound to cause pain, this world is broken. I want to fix it, and I think you can help me." She placed her other hand on his cheek cradling his head gently in her hands. "Will you help me?"

Seven Years Later

Hazel breathed heavily as he stood with his fists raised, the snowy field around him looked like a hurricane had blown through. The cause of this was the panting fourteen year old blond several yard away from him. It had been seven years since Salem had give the boy to him as an apprentice, in that time the boy had grown at a pace the defied what he thought possible. By age ten he began putting Jaune up against grimm, by twelve they had graduated to full contact sparring. Now at the young age of fourteen the boy was able to fight on an even footing with Hazel himself and had overpowered and killed several huntsmen.

In the beginning Hazel had been skeptical about teaching the boy, Salem had been correct when she'd told him the boy was special. Apparently she felt it when one of her Seer's was destroy on the outskirts of Ansel by the boy, something he still had no memory of but had been told about. What made Jaune so unique though was the energy he exuded and manipulated, it wasn't aura and according to Salem it wasn't magic either, it was something even the ancient witch had never seen before. As it turned out the energy was far more potent and versatile than aura.

At first the boy had only been able to produce a repulsive force with himself at the epicenter, Hazel had been surprised but not shocked when he found he could also attract objects and people with the same force. A powerful and useful ability, to Hazel's shock however the boys power didn't seem to play by the same rules as aura, he was not limited to a single special ability like a semblance. Soon after the child discovered he could spawn odd black rods from his body made of an unidentifiable material. It wasn't until much later and by accident that they learned the rods had their owns secrets, when stabbed into an enemy they would disrupt their aura and make it difficult for them to move and impossible to use complex aura base abilities.

The only other ability Hazel knew about was that the boy could apparently absorb any elemental or energy based attack, he was certain the boy had discovered further abilities but had chosen to keep them to himself. This didn't surprise him, Hazel had taught him everything he knew and one of those things was to never trust anyone.

In all honesty the boy absolutely terrified Hazel, at fourteen the only thing Hazel had over him combat wise was experience, a few more years and Hazel had no doubt that he would be on a completely different level. He wouldn't be surprised at all if even the maidens wouldn't be able to stand against him. All this aside though Hazel had grown quite fond of his student, he watched the boy grown into a young man.

Jaune lunged forward throwing a punch that Hazel sidestepped, cocking his fist back he made to counter only for Jaune to surprise him by using the momentum of the punch to spin around and kick at the mans head. Shifting from the punch to a guard Hazel grunted as the kick slammed into his arm. Before Jaune could regain his stance Hazel grabbed him by the ankle and lifted him into the air only to quickly slam him down onto the hard frozen ground, lifting him again he made to do it again but was quickly hit a powerful invisible force that force him to release the boy and sent him sliding backwards while the boy flipped through the air before landing on his feet.

"Alright, that's enough for today." Hazel said before brushing the snow off of himself. "You continue to commit to attacks that leave you completely open when they're blocked, one day that'll get you killed. You're lucky this was a spar and you're just walking away with that arm." He chastised the blonde.

Jaune looked down at his left arm, it hung limply. "It's nothing." He said gripping the limb, it had popped out of it's socket at the shoulder when he'd been slammed into the ground. With a quick yank and a twist he pushed the arm back into place making a loud pop.

"You say that until you wind up dead. Come on, we have a job tomorrow, let's make camp." Hazel said turning from the teen.

Within an hour the pair had set up a pair of small tents and built a fire. "Master, may I ask you a question?" Jaune asked after half an hour of silence, his purple rippled eyes staring into the fire that staved off the harsh cold of the Atlas country side, the sun having set shortly before.

"What is it?"

Jaune held out his hand a bit closer to the fire. "Hatred is an ugly emotion, darker and more corrupt than any other. And the grimm feed on negativity." He stated as he continued to watch the flames dance.

"Yes." Hazel nodded.

"Hatred could be said to be the ultimate nourishment for Lady Salem's beasts."

"What is your question?"

"Why do people insist on hating each other over the smallest things if they know it will only strengthen the very monsters that threaten them all?" He asked turning his eyes to his teacher. "Would it not be smarter to simply set aside their differences and combine their forces against a common enemy?"

Hazel nodded. "That would be smarter, but people fear what they do not understand. That fear leads inevitably to hatred." Hazel explained. "Much like a child fears the dark because they don't know what may be in it, they grow to hate the dark and use night lights to fight it off. Humanity as a whole is the same."

Jaune stared at his master for a few seconds before nodding. "As children grow up they out grow their fear of the dark, then if humanity, our world were to grow up it may to one day out grow it's need to hate." A small laugh escaped the boys lips. "This world is still a child." He said as if realizing something. "Then I will help it grow up."

Three Years Later

Cinder watched as Emerald and Mercury collapsed onto the floor of the cavern they'd set up their camp in several kilometers from where they'd only just finished their battle with the maiden. The two teens had done their part and even if they only managed to get half of the maidens power she'd allow them a bit of respite after the fight. She herself needed some time to adjust.

She hid it well but the process of taking the maiden's power into herself had drained her and left her exhausted, it was a struggle to remain on her feet the entire way here.

"You failed your mission." A deep voice echoed through out the cave. In an instant all three were back on their feet, Cinder sending a wave of flames towards the entrance of the cave while her minions sent a wave of gunfire in the same direction. A moment later a powerful force dispersed her fire and deflected the bullets just before knocking the three onto their backs.

Cinder was back on her feet quickly but paused as she got a look at the one who'd spoken, she held up her hand to the two teens who were struggling to their feet. "Stop." She said as she met the purple eyes of the man standing at the mouth of the cave, she recognized him. "Pain, what do you want?" She growled at him. She'd only met him twice during gathering at Evernight and had never spoken to him, she didn't even know his real name only the alias he went by in the field. What she did know was that he had been Hazel Rainart's apprentice and was extremely dangerous, Salem generally sending him on missions with very low margin for error. Anyone who could earn that level of trust from the witch at such a young age was not to be taken lightly.

He stepped into the cave making it easier to get a look at him, he was tall with blonde hair that reached down over his ears. His face sport a number of piercings, six along his nose, three on each side. Six on each ear and two on his lower lip. He wore a long black coat with red clouds with a high collar, he had a pair of black sandles that revealed his toes which were painted black along with his fingernails. The thing that stood out the most however were those damned eyes, she noticed it the first time she'd ever met him. Any time he looked at her she felt a weight, like a predator was bearing down on her, it made her skin crawl.

"You mission was to steal the Fall Maidens power, you only manage to steal a portion of it." He said as he continued to stare at her with those eyes.

Cinder crossed her arms. "A minor set back, I will have the rest in time. She won't last long in her state, once she passes the rest of it will come to me on it's own." She said attempting to match his glare with her own.

He was quiet for several seconds. "That was Qrow Branwen that took her, I shadowed him for a distance, he was headed to the nearest town with an airship. He will be taking her to Beacon where we must assume they will treat her." He responded calmly.

"I just ripped out a chunk of her soul, there is no treating that." Cinder growled, she wasn't use to being questioned in this way, especially not by someone younger than herself.

He closed his eyes and shook his head. "Stupid girl, you underestimate Ozpin. The one who has stood against our lady for centuries." A moment later Cinder was in front of him throwing a fire coated fist at his chest, he simply caught the attack. To Cinder's shock however the limb was not scorched and instead the magic flames were extinguished on contact. "You are exhausted, unfamiliar with your new power and injured. A fight with me would be very unwise Cinder Fall." He spoke again, his voice as calm as ever.

"Why are you here?" She seethed through grit teeth.

"Our lady sent me to observe you and report your results, I've done so and she is less than pleased." Cinder felt her stomach drop, Salem already knew. "However as you know, our lady is not without mercy. She instructed me to tell you that you are to obtain the remaining power from the fall maiden, I am to remain in Vale and assist in this endeavor. How I do that is under my own discretion of course." Cinder was running the risk of crack one of her teeth if she clenched them any harder. "You have your orders." He finally released her hand and turned to the entrance, upon stepping out he disappeared in a blur of movement.

"AHHH!" Cinder screamed before slamming her fist into the ground beneath her creating a spiderweb of cracks, blood leaked from the limb and one of her fingers was bent at an odd angle.

"Who the hell was that?" Mercury ask from his spot on the floor.

Cinder growled again never taking her eyes off of the caves entrance. "They call him Pain."

Vale, Days Later

Jaune sat alone in the booth of the small diner, he had a small smile as he took a sip of his hot chocolate. It was one of his guilty pleasures, one he kept to himself. To anyone not his master he probably would seem like some kind of monster, a grimm in human skin that needed only negativity to survive. Of course that was because nobody other than Hazel actually knew him, barring Lady Salem of course.

Even his so called allies, Cinder, Tyrian and Watts were all strangers to him. It was a lonely way to live, no friend or family. No real home or place to return to, Atlas had taken that from him. He'd long ago learned the truth behind the massacre that had taken place in Ansel a decade ago, the SDC had found a massive dust deposit under the town and wanted access. When they were unable to come to an agreement with the local government they sent out a black ops squadron made up of former Atlassian soldiers that had been paid obscenely well to 'die' on a mission. The SDC would then set up these KIA soldiers with false identities and pay them just as obscenely to carry out jobs that if they were to ever be linked back to the SDC or Atlas it could start a war. If they were ever caught or captured they would be completely disavowed and treated as terrorists.

Jaune raised his mug to his lips once more only to frown when he realized it was empty, with a small sigh he reach into his pocket and pulled out a lien card and set it on his table before standing and walking out of the diner. He began walking down the sidewalk, pulling out his scroll and ear phones he put them in and began playing some music, another thing that would likely surprise those who only knew him by reputation.

It had been several days since his talk with Cinder and so far she'd kept her distance from the city, last he checked she was moving to meet up with the White Fang again. Probably looking to amass an army of disposable pawns to do her bidding while also acting as scapegoats, he had to admit it was a somewhat clever idea though had multiple large holes.

At the end of the day it didn't really matter how she went about it as long as the end result was her obtaining the Fall Maiden's power, his mission was to assist her in this however he saw fit. He'd already put together a plan of his own to get closer to where the maiden was being kept, one that didn't require an army. In fact he was currently on his way to obtain the last thing he'd need to put his plan into motion.

He walked for half an hour until he could see a night club in the distance, the sun was low but had yet to set and the neon of the large sign above the door had yet to come to life. Standing in front of the door was a single bouncer in a black suit who held up his hand as he approached.

"Sorry kid, we don't open for another two hours."

Jaune shook his head. "I'm here to see Hei Xiong."

"The boss doesn't see anyone outside of bu-" Jaune held up his hand to the mans face, a moment later the man was unconscious on the floor of the nightclubs interior, a large hole now in the door. Stepping through Jaune walked into the club and quickly found himself staring at over two dozen guns being pointed at him.

"What the hell?!" A tall man shouted as he jumped over the bar and began running over, a pair of nearly identical girls right behind him. "What the hell is going on?!" He demanded.

"Hei Xiong I presume? I informed your doorman that I needed an audience with you but he was less than helpful." Jaune explained holding out his hands.

The tall man looked to his goons. "What are you all waiting for?"

A moment before the group opened fire however Jaune aimed his hands at the twin behind Hei. "Universal Pull." The pair jerked forward through the air, his hands clamping around their throats as he pulled them close, this all happened in the second before more than two dozen men opened fire.

"STOP!" The scream from their boss came to late as over a hundred dust rounds had slammed into the backs of each of the twins he used as meat shields.

Their aura's had only protects them from a portion of the volley, the rest tore into their bodies. The gunfire quickly came to a halt and Jaune dropped the quickly dying girls, his hands still out. "Almighty Push." An instant later every goon was sent slamming into anything that may have been behind them at staggering speeds. Xiong could stand frozen in terror as his bodyguards and his men had all been decimated in a matter of seconds, his eyes fell on the two heavily bleeding girls. "I can save them." The boy, no this thing couldn't be human, the monster spoke. "If you agree to what I ask of course." The look of defeat on his face must've been enough of an answer as Jaune reached down and grabbed the two girls.

If Xiong wasn't already certain the thing in front of him was the devil what came next sealed it, a massive demonic head sprouted out of the ground surrounded by purple fire. It's mouth unzipped and Jaune unceremoniously threw the girls in, it then proceeded to chew only to spit both out after a few seconds. To his shock both girls appeared completely intact, even their clothes were no long riddled with holes.

"Now Xiong." His head whipped up to meet the eyes that he knew would likely haunt his nightmares for the rest of his life. "We have business to discuss."

Now I know what a lot of you are gonna say, SLOW DOWN or STOP WITH THE TIME SKIPS or even TO MUCH IS HAPPENING TO FAST. Well don't worry, from this point on there will most likely not have anymore major times skips, at least nothing more than a matter of days. There will also be a flash backs periodically in the future. Leave me a review and tell me what you all thing. Until next time.
