There is Beauty in the water, and kindness in his eyes

Chapter 1: Captured

For a few weeks now, I have had the urge to go for a walk at the beach. I don't know why, and frankly, I haven't had the urge to explore further than the sand and what I can reach. I have the feeling I'm being watched, but when I look around, I see nothing. Maybe it's a mermaid whose eye I caught, maybe I'm just hallucinating. Either way, I enjoy my walks on the beach. The doctors said they are good for my mental health, since I have been cooped up in my office since I became the owner of a fishing business.

There is that gorgeous human again. Shouta said I shouldn't go up the surface, because I might get caught, but I can't help it. Ever since I laid eyes on that beautiful human, I just can't help myself but watch him. His blond hair flows so nicely in the wind and it reminds me of the sun. I haven't had the chance to take a close look at him, but he always looks so dapper in the suit he usually wears. I only ever see humans wear clothing. I wonder what clothing feels like on my skin. Shouta won't like me watching humans, he sees it as dangerous, but humans could help us keep the ocean clean so we don't twindle more in numbers. We already struggle to find enough food, and after my brother and his mate got a baby, we struggle even more, but they need the food more than ever right now. I wanna ask the humans if they could help us, but given me being a mermaid, they would just capture me. Why can't humans just accept the fact that they are not the only sentient species on this planet? I wish I could get over there, but Shouta would be furious.

There it is again, the feeling of being watched. When I turned to the ocean, I could hear the sound of someone diving under and saw a fishtail. It got me curious, but why would I go exploring out there? I just left the beach, walking home to lock myself in the dark rooms of the place I call home. I never really felt much at home there, something was missing, and I don't really know what and I don't wanna find out.

The next day came and I was woken up by my employees blowing up my phone. As I picked up I was quite furious.

"What is it, Kugo? Did Selkie mess up again?", I asked, tired and furious for being woken up on a Saturday.

"Boss, you might wanna come to the harbor and look at what we caught….", Kugo Sakamata replied, sounding a bit worried. My eye twitched a bit and I sighed.

"I'll be there as fast as I can. Just, whatever it is, don't let it get away.", I said and hung up, getting up and dressed.

How could this happen? Was I really so careless? Shouta will be so furious. And all I really wanted, was to get food for my nephew. He is so weak and Hizashi, my brother's mate, and Shouta are worried for his health. I was wary of the people around me, they looked nothing like the blond human that I see on the beach every day. And why are they just looking at me like they have seen a ghost? Is it that weird that mermaids exist? They won't even take those heavy sea wheat things off of me, no matter how much I struggle. I want to scream, but I don't know if they would understand me. Maybe I should've just listened to Shouta and we should've migrated to a safer place, but I just couldn't help but watch the humans at the beach. Also, why would they leave out something that looks so good, if they didn't want merfolk to steal it. I don't get humans sometimes. But I get more and more dizzy the more I am outside of water.

"I swear, if you have to show me another fish with a different color from the rest, I will actually lose my mind.", I said as I walked to the fishing boat. Selkie looked kinda flustered when he said: "I'm not even sure if its a fish, Sir"

I rolled my eyes. Sine I had taken over the company, I haven't slept much. I really need to sort everything out. Well, whatever. I was brought to the back of the boat where, under some ropes laid a woman; black hair, fair skin and some scales. Whoever or whatever she was is a secret we have to find out.

"She looks normal, well, apart from the scales she has. And you said you caught her?", I asked, curious about the story. Kugo rubbed the back of his neck and started explaining: "Well, we just finished our tour for today. Just settled into harbor when all of a sudden, Selkie started screaming and dropped the ropes on her, and she threw his lunch in the ocean. We have no idea how she got up here."

I sighed, a bit annoyed at them, before turning to them and said: "This is a mermaid. I have a pool in my house, let's get her there. Maybe she'll talk later, if she can even talk."

The two just nodded and after a minute, we made our way to my house. The pool was in the basement so they threw her into the water, waiting for her to move again.

What? I'm alive? How am I alive? Am I in water? I am. And I can see a head of blond hair. Am I at his home? I can finally speak with him, but I don't want the other two to be there. They wanted to kill me, just because I got something to eat for my nephew. He was weak, even for a small child. He was just about a few years, and they couldn't effort to have a new child just yet. We are struggling to get enough food as it is. I stuck my head out of the water and look at the humans.

"Hey there.", the blond man said with a smile. My face suddenly felt so warm and I hid my cheek in the water. I managed to communicate that I just want the blond with me in the room. The other two left and the blond sat down on the edge of the water, putting his feet in.

"Why did you startle my employees? Why did you throw their lunch in the water?", he asked, I looked a bit confused. They startled me. I just wanted to help my family, they just didn't want to share. I wanted to protest, but all that came out of my mouth were purring sounds and clicking noises.

"Figured as much. You can't talk to me. This is a waste of my time and resources.", He wanted to leave. I don't know what came over me, but I supported myself on the edge and leaned towards his face, studying. My bare chest brushed against the fabric of his shirt, which took me by surprise and I jumped back into the water, swimming a few rounds.

Great, a mermaid is in my pool, and she isn't even that bad looking. But she can't tell me what her intentions are, so why should I keep bothering myself with her? But she looks to be interested in learning. Well, if I keep talking to her, maybe she'll pick up our language and she'll tell me what she is trying to accomplish. I wanna get to know her better as well. I'll just have to see what will happen.

Author's note: Chapter one is done. I have started the idea when I was in hospital, but only now came around to make it. Anyway, I don't own the original MHA Characters, only Sakura (the mermaid) and the idea belongs to me. The original characters belong to Kohei Horikoshi
