Chrobin Week 2021
Day 1: Late Night
Once upon a time, in a world like our own in so many ways, but different in just as many, there was a land whose sun and moon were powerful dragons the flew the sky.
The sun dragon, with her glowing feather wings, shone light wherever she flew across the land.
The moon dragon, with her wide leather wings, spread dark wherever she did the same.
Despite the distance the two kept from each other, the dragons were as close as friends could be.
The sun dragon leaving stars as messages for the night.
The moon dragon leaving clouds as messages for the day.
For many a passings over the land, that was how it was, and that was how it should've been.
But then one day, a king of a land pleaded for the sun dragon's aid, his heart bleeding for the sufferring of his people at the hands of an enemy kingdom.
The sun dragon, moved by the prince's plight, granted him her blood and fang, granting him immense strength in the day and a sharp sword to continue through the night.
With these gifts, the king ended the war in but a few passings, and saved his people from further destruction.
His people exalted him as their greatest ruler and hailed the sun dragon as their savior. Man, sun, and even moon were pleased to see them safe.
However, the king did not—could not forsee how his people's adoration would turn into castigation, for he only saw the good in people's hearts and knew not that his people's love for the sun dragon soon led to hate for the moon dragon.
Without the night, we wouldn't fear for the monsters that lurked in the dark, they said.
Without the night, we wouldn't have to halt our actions when dark came, they said.
Without the night, we wouldn't have dealt with the war for dark was the source of evil, they said.
The sun dragon strived to comfort the moon dragon, creating even more stars to remind her how she appreciated her.
The king endeavored to reform his people, speaking of his own life to show how much the night meant to him.
But the king's people would not believe him.
And it grew too much for the moon dragon.
So one day, she vanished, leaving no night to encroach the morn.
The people cheered, their king's admonishments doing nothing to dampen their spirits.
But one morning led to two, and two into five, and seven into thirteen and it was only then did the people realize their mistake.
With no night, rivers and seas dried all over.
With no night, crops and plants wilted to husks.
With no night, man and beast knew no rest.
And so, at last, his people were remorseful and begged for the moon dragon to return.
But it was too late.
The moon dragon could not hear and the sun dragon knew not where she had gone.
And so the king set off in search for the her.
He traversed through a vast desert and encountered a fire wyrm with scales like red stones.
"Who are you looking, little one?" the wyrm said, his voice gentle.
"I search for the moon dragon. Have you seen of her?"
"No, have not. But I give you my scale to shade you from the sun. May you find her and bring back night."
The king thanked the wyrm and took the scale, replacing his crown to shield his face.
He sailed across the last sea that hadn't dried and encountered a water ryu with fur like white snow.
"Who do you seek, noble king?" she said, her voice concerned.
"I search for the moon dragon. Have you seen of her?"
"No I have not. I will give you my fur to protect you from the heat. May you find her and bring back night."
The king thanked the ryu and took the fur, replacing his robes to cover his skin.
He climbed the highest mountain and encountered a wind wyvern with grace like a fairy.
"Who do you look for, heartbroken man?" she said, voice powerful but kind.
"I...search for the moon dragon. Have you seen of her?"
"No I have not. But I will give you my eye to guide your way. May you find her and bring back night."
The king thanked the wyvern and took the eye, replacing his sword to keep the object secure on his body.
With all these gifts, the king traveled and traveled, all of them protecting him from all that stood in his way.
Until, at last, he was at the end of the world.
Where a single tree stood in a simple field.
Where a single woman stood in gloom, her hair as bright as the stars and her eyes deep as the night.
"Go away, o weary traveler. Only death awaits you here."
"Forgive me, for I cannot, for I have searched for far and long and at last have found you, moon dragon."
The dragon was shocked.
"How did you know it was I?"
"There could be no one else here but you. Now, please come, and return to the skies. The sun misses you. My people regret their words. And I wish to see you and the night once again."
"Why do you care so much that I return? I did nothing to help you in your war. I grew jealous of the praise for my friend. And I upset the people you swore to serve."
"If there was no night, I would not have hidden safely from my killers.
"If there was no night, I would not have rest from my duties as king.
"If there was no night, I would not be able to see your smile.
"For I love the night, moon dragon, and so I love you as well."
The woman was shocked.
But she was also moved by the man's plea.
And so, the king returned night to the skies and the moon dragon returned him to his kingdom.
The king's people celebrated at their return.
The sun dragon weeped in joy at their return.
And the king showered his affection on the moon dragon at her return.
With his beloved night back where she belonged, the land soon recovered to how it was before, and the king and moon dragon were wed.
The dragon spending her days resting with her husband and little ones in the palace, while her nights giving her husband and little ones their rest.
And so they lived happily ever after.
Author's Notes: So, uh, long story short, I found out Chrobin Week 2021 started TODAY so I hastily put this together and thus will be my only entry for the year.
I quite like it despite that. But I'm a sucker for fairy tales and dragons and such so that's a given.
It ended up this way through this train of thought thought: "Hey, what happens if by 'late night', it meant the night was late? What if Robin was the night? What if Robin was a moon dragon? I know! I'll make a fairy tale style story of this!" So yeah. There you go.
HOPEFULLY I can actually participate the whole week next year but we'll see.
The "dragons" that appear here are supposed to be:
Moon dragon - Robin (dur)
Sun dragon - Emmeryn
Fire wyrm - Eliwood
Water ryu - Corrin
Wind wyvern - Byleth
