Stormy Nights Can Get Better

Neither Max or Chloe handled stormy nights well.

They never know who starts crying first but sooner or later they both find themselves in tears and holding each other tight, whispering comfort and words of affection to drown out everything else.

They've gotten better over the years but they can't ever truly go back to the way things were before. Not when they still see everything so clearly when they go to sleep.

The two decided to go to bed early that night. The weather report announced really bad weather for that night so they figured it might be better to cuddle and sleep trough most of it. Besides they've both got to get up for work the next morning and Max isn't sure she can cancel the photo shoot. She got back into photography eventually, it took a while before she could see the flash of a camera and not see Jefferson's face smiling back at her.

Max and Chloe were in bed, Chloe with her arms around Max's body, pulling the brunette into her chest. Neither of them could really get to sleep. They kept waking up and falling back asleep all trough the night. Chloe woke up with a flash of thunder, her arms instinctively holding Max tighter.

Chloe didn't want to wake Max up. Instead she simply kissed the crown of Max's head and burred her face in Max's hair. Just being next to her brought Chloe more comfort then she could ever ask for.

It was relatively silent for a few minutes, just the sound of rain falling outside. Then another flash of lighting. A strung gust of wind, followed by more lighting. Max groaned. She started fidgeting in Chloe's arms, mumbling in her sleep, her brows frowned, her breathing starting to rapidly increase.

"Max." Chloe ran her hands across Max's back, rubbing soothing circles while Max grabbed fistfuls of Chloe's shirt, her whole body starting to shake, "Its ok Max, I'm here, I'm not going anywhere."

"There's so many voices Chloe." Max's voice was broken by a sob.

"I know Super-Max. I hear them too. But I hear you too. And you make it better." Chloe kissed her cheek gently, "Did you..." The bluenette gulped, "Was I there too?"

Max nodded.

"Fuck." Chloe nuzzled her face closer, "I'm here Max. I'm here. With you. There's no fucking storm strong enough to tear us apart."

"I know. I won't let it." Max leaned back to look at Chloe, her face was wet with tears and Max suspected she's just as much of a mess, "I love you Chloe. so, so much."

Chloe's breath hitched. She lunged forward, Max's lips meeting hers in a desperate kiss. After the nightmare, Chloe's kiss, even though it was clumsy and tasted of salty tears, was like a beautiful dream to Max.

They separated when the need for air became too much, "I love you too Max. I always will."

Max hummed, settling back into Chloe's embrace. Chloe let out a content sigh. Maybe they'll be able to get a few more hours of sleep. If not then staying up and cuddling would have to do. They might never be completely healed from their experience, but at least they can make each other's lives a little better each day.
