It's finally time for the most unique story in Jewel's Saga! Presenting, an elaborated remake of Super Mario 3D Land, Super Heroes 3D Land! This will obviously feature the four Dragon Quest Heroes as the main protagonists, with each of them having distinct personalities in order to make them more independant from each other and not make them just mere alternate costumes like how they're treated in Smash Ultimate.
Now why did I mention 'elaborated remake' earlier, you may ask? Well, despite this story being a remake of 3D Land, it'll also feature elements from the New Super Mario Bros games as well (that includes characters, shout-outs, BGMs, and Power-Ups). Compared to the two previous stories, the second genre is that of humor, and so it'll feature a lot of comedy with rather funny and silly moments throughout it.
Well, I hope you enjoy this! ;)
Chapter 1: Rescuers in Need
[BGM: Bowser's Theme – Mario & Luigi: Dream Team]
"Grrrargh!" Bowser growled, punching the side of his throne in his castle in frustration. "Those blasted chumps! No matter what I come up with, they never fall for it and always manage to defeat me and save the princess!"
"Actually, you did manage to fool Mario and his friends once, Your Nastiness…" Kamek informed. "By inviting them over for a feast only for you to shrink them with that magic wand, the… er, what was its name again?"
"Who cares?! That was only ONE time!" Bowser shot back. "There has to be SOMETHING else I can do!"
"Well, how about kidnapping the Mario Brothers-"
"We did that before, and it didn't work." Bowser interrupted Kamek.
"…You didn't let me finish!" Kamek exclaimed. "I was about to say kidnapping the Mario Brothers AND the princess too! That way, we can lower the morale of the Mushroom Kingdom since no one would be able to defend it!"
Bowser rubbed his chin in thought, before replying, "That could work… But that sounds way easier said than done! Kidnapping Peach is the easy part, but how are we going to do the same to these pesky plumbers?!"
"Perhaps we could help on this, Lord Bowser." a voice said as Bowser and Kamek looked over to see Kamori and the rest of the evil organization team approaching them.
"Ah, it's you guys." Bowser said. "And you said you could help out in their kidnapping?"
"Most precisely." Kamori nodded. "All that requires is a deadly special weapon with us that I recently discovered…" she and the others then stepped aside, revealing the strange girl with the phantoms surrounding her fully awake, as she sported maroon eyes and was waving a purple fan decorated with lilies close to her face. "I found her unconscious back at Isle Delfino and decided to rework on her memories, which was easy due to her many negative feelings, and now she's the newest member of our organization!"
"I see… Very interesting…" Kamek mused.
Bowser, however, still didn't look too convinced. "And how is this girl going to solve my problem?"
Kamori smirked. "Oh, we have our ways. But first, we need a good distraction before out attack."
"You can leave this to me, ma'am!" Kamek declared, summoning his wand.
"Perfect. Now, here's what we'll do…"
[BGM End]
Later, that night…
A dark and thunderous rainstorm started to blow in the Mushroom Kingdom thanks to Kamek's magic, as all the residents were forced to stay in their homes. Bushes, grass blades and trees flailed by the strong winds. One particular special tree, nominated the Tail Tree, had its Super Leaves get blown away by the winds as they soared all over the air, flying off to someplace unknown, but then we suddenly hear Bowser's laugh in the background…
At Peach's Castle, Peach and the Mario Bros were worriedly looking at the window, watching the storm happening outside. The reason why Mario and Luigi were in the castle in the first place was that they had just finished fixing some leaking pipes around it, but due to the sudden storm, they were forced to stay in here until the storm stops or gets less violent.
"*sigh* It's too bad that we won't probably head back home for a long while…" Mario sighed.
"Oh well…" Luigi frowned.
"Honestly, I'm more worried about the Tail Tree, the kingdom's most admired tree…" Peach lamented. "I don't think the Super Leaves can handle these strong winds happening outside."
"Bummer…" Mario cresfalled, before he soon decided to shake it off and change the subject, "Anyways, let's not worry about this too much. I'm fine with staying here in the castle, even if it possibly means I and Luigi will have to sleep in here."
"You know, I'm with you too, bro." Luigi threw in.
"Well, if you two say so…" Peach stood up. "I'll go prepare some tea. You two in?"
"Sure!" Mario nodded, as Luigi did the same.
"Okay!" Peach smiled, and proceeded to head over to the kitchen.
*BOOOOOM!*
However, before Peach could even take a step, there was an explosion from outside that startled all of them… and then another explosion came.
"Eeeek!" Peach shrieked once the second explosion came.
"What's going on?!" Luigi asked.
Mario had his eyes wide in horror, as he knew very well who's responsible for these explosions. "Oh, not right now…" he whispered and then he put on a brave expression and told Peach, "Stay in here, Peach! I and Luigi will go outside to check!"
Peach immediately nodded, and after sharing determined nods, Mario and Luigi rushed outside, even if it means getting wet but they didn't care.
[BGM: Koopa's Road (Super Mario 64) – Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games]
As the Mario Bros got outside, they could see Toads running and screaming in panic as the whole Toad Town was being bombarded by Bullet Bills. Running past the crowd and the destroyed houses, they looked up to see the many airships in the air as Bowser was standing on top of the largest airship, which was in the middle.
"Hello again, plumbers!" Bowser grinned.
"Bowser!" Mario yelled angrily, he and Luigi glaring at him. "Deciding to lay an attack at this time of hour? Not cool at all!"
"Heh! I'll have you know that it was thanks to Kamek to make the weather in here like this!"
"Kamek did this?!" Luigi questioned, while Mario growled under his breath.
"Indeed! And now, prepare yourselves! Because this time, I have the upper hand!"
"Oh, really? Then prove it." Mario demanded sternly.
"As you wish." Bowser smirked as he folded his arms and did nothing…
"AAAAAAAAHHHHH!" but suddenly, the Mario Bros heard Peach's scream coming from the castle as they looked back at it in alarm.
"Oh no!" Luigi exclaimed.
"Peach!" Mario yelled as he and Luigi ran back quickly into the castle while Bowser just watched them while chuckling darkly.
Eventually, they made it in… and what they saw in front of them shocked them.
[BGM: Nightmare Lullaby – Mario & Luigi: Dream Team]
They saw Peach with a plasma rope wrapped around her torso and arms by Guffawin, while the rest of the evil organization team except for the new member were standing there looking at the Mario Bros with evil smirks.
"Who… Who are they?!" Luigi asked.
"Those people…" Mario breathed, as he soon recognized some of them. "Wait! You're the members of that organization working with Bowser in secret!"
"My my, aren't you a clever one, Mario…" Umimi chuckled. "I guess the others must've told you about the rest of us, right?"
"They have… But it doesn't matter. We can handle you all!" Mario declared, him and Luigi pulling out their hammers.
"Oh, I wouldn't be so sure of that. You see… we happen to have a new triumph card with us." Kamori said and then looked over to the side. "Would you be kind as to reveal yourself, my dear?"
"Yes, mistress…" the newest member replied before stepping out of the shadows so Mario and Luigi could see her clearly.
"Who is that?" Mario asked.
"Glad you asked!" Kamori exclaimed. "Her name is Yuri Saigyouji, a ghost gone vengeful spirit. She comes from a mystical land known as Gensokyo, but she was banished from her home by its three Sages. I took pity in her and granted her some of my power, making her stronger than before."
The Mario Bros could only stare in confusion, as they watched Yuri walk up to Peach and then Kamori gave her order:
"Yuri, do your thing."
"Of course." Yuri nodded and rose her arm towards Peach. She moved her fingers slightly, and then Peach suddenly began to feel immense pain inside her body.
"A… AAAAAAAAGH!" she screamed in agony. "I-IT HURTS!" and then she just kept screaming.
"Wh-What are you doing to her!?" Mario questioned as he and Luigi had horrified looks.
"Yuri has the ability to manipulate living souls, so she's simply twisting and turning your precious princess's soul from the inside." Kamori said. "Think of it as a form of torture."
"No… Stop doing this!"
"Well, I'll order Yuri to stop… but you have a choice to make. Surrender now and I'll let her go, or take one step forward and we'll make her continue to scream until she runs out of air."
The brothers gasped. "No…!" Luigi exclaimed.
"Oh, yes." Kamori smirked. "So, what will it be? Your surrender… or further torture until a possible death?"
[BGM End]
Mario hesitated as he stood there immobile, as he really wanted to save Peach from their grasp, but by hearing her pained screams, it made him remind that he just couldn't bear to see his precious one getting brutally tortured like that, let alone by a vengeful spirit with a pretty dangerous power.
"Mario, what do we do?!" Luigi asked as he looked at him.
Mario clenched his fists. He didn't like what he was doing, but he did not want Peach to be tortured any longer, let alone get her killed in the end, and so he dropped his hammer… literally.
[BGM: Shocking! – Mario & Luigi: Dream Team]
Luigi could do nothing but stare at what Mario just did in surprise.
"M-Mario…?" he said shakily.
"Just don't hurt her." Mario muttered.
"Don't worry, we'll take good care of her." Kamori replied, snapping her fingers as Yuri responded by lowering her arm to stop using her powers, and thus Peach stopped screaming.
"Mario…" Peach breathed, gasping for air due to screaming so much.
"Peach… I'll get you out of this. Somehow, I will." Mario told her calmly, but still with his eyebrows furrowed.
"Oh, but that's where you're mistaken!" Guffawin exclaimed. "Because… You two shall be joining her!" he suddenly lashes out two additional plasma ropes from his other hand, wrapping up Mario and Luigi with them. "Gotcha!"
Mario and Luigi did their best to struggle out of the ropes, but to no avail as Splutterton told them:
"There's no point struggling. Guffawin's plasma ropes are sturdy enough to hold a person captive!" by hearing this, then there was no point in doing that anymore and so the brothers stopped.
"Well, then! That was incredibly easy!" Bowser came in walking into the room.
Kamori chuckled. "It was all thanks to our new member that we accomplished this. Aren't you lucky to have us working with you, Lord Bowser?"
"Yes. Now, let's move out!" Bowser ordered as they walked out of the castle, with Guffawin guiding Mario, Luigi, and Peach to the airships.
"So, what now, our Lord?" Chuckole asked.
"We rest for now… and then tomorrow we'll begin plotting our takeover on the Mushroom Kingdom." Bowser smirked and they all flew off back to the Dark Land together, leaving a devastated Toad Town behind.
And, in the midst of that, a hooded figure was standing there and had watched everything that happened without anyone noticing, before running off to somewhere.
[BGM End]
The next day, at Bowser's Castle…
[BGM: Siege on Bowser's Castle – Paper Mario]
Bowser was sitting on his throne all alone in the throne room, thinking about what to do to start taking over the Mushroom Kingdom. However, the thought about having someone else or even a group possibly being able to make their way to his kingdom as if they're Mario and Luigi's substitutes still didn't slip off of his mind, so he knew he had to fortify his castle and his kingdom's defense to prevent them from trying to get in.
"…I think I have an idea." he said before calling out, "Kamek! Come over here!"
Kamek immediately appeared before him while flying on his broom. "You rang, Your Surliness?"
"I need you to make a way to fortify my castle's defense, and possibly even the kingdom's entrance!"
"I believe I can come up with something. In fact, I believe I can do it now!"
"Good! The sooner, the better!"
"High castle defense coming right up!" Kamek then flies off the window and far away from the castle until he could see it entirely from the distance.
With that, he rose his wand up into the air and fired a rainbow-colored magic from it towards the castle, and then a rainbow-colored barrier dome suddenly covered the entire castle, with the part where the entrance gate was located having eight keyholes of eight different colors corresponding from the barrier. Just then, eight keys, each matching the colors of the keyholes, materialized in front of the gate as Kamek's eyes widened before quickly waving his wand again to scatter the keys away, as they ended up in places unknown at the moment. With that done, Kamek flew back into the castle, passing through the barrier like it wasn't even there, to report back to Bowser.
"Your Nastiness, I created a magic barrier around the entire castle. No one, except for you and your minions, are able to pass through it. However, shortly after I created that barrier, I don't know how or why, but eight keys of different colors suddenly showed up, but thankfully I scattered them away into the Special Worlds. I noticed that these keys matched the colors of the barrier's keyholes, so as long as the intruders are unable to find a way to collect these keys, your castle will remain protected."
"Nice." Bowser grinned. "But just in case, who will guard these keys?"
"I shall send the evil organization team as well as Boom Boom and Pom Pom to guard them."
"Got it. Now, how about the defense of the kingdom's entrance?"
"I'll leave it to the Hammer Bro squad for this. They are known for building great defense systems."
"That works. And finally, my last question: who shall be guarding our seven bases?"
"Ah, good thing you asked, sir! I believe that the Koopalings will be a perfect choice as always. Oh, and by the way, have you seen all these Super Leaves that came over to your kingdom?"
"I have. I'll still think about what to do with those."
"Alright, then. I've got a lot of preparations to do, so I should be off now." Kamek then flies off.
After Bowser was left alone again, he let out a mischievous grin. "Let's see if anyone in the Mushroom Kingdom is able to actually find replacements for the Mario Brothers… Gwa ha ha ha!" he laughed.
[BGM End]
Meanwhile, at the Smash Mansion…
[BGM: Reminiscence – Dragon Quest VIII]
The Dragon Quest Heroes were at the lounging area of the mansion, with Eleven and Solo sitting on a couch while Eight was sitting on a bean bag chair beside the couch while petting Munchie, and Arusu was sitting on another couch that was standing before the couch Eleven and Solo were sitting on, while leaning on his hand with a bored expression on his face.
"Ugh, I'm so bored!" Arusu complained, slumping his back on the couch.
"Well, I'm afraid that there's nothing much we can do around here." Eleven shrugged. "I got nothing on my mind right now."
"*sigh* I just wish that something exciting would happen to us, at least!"
Solo sighed. "It's not like we're going to get called to a mission or anything… Though I wish this would happen so that Arusu could stop complaining."
[BGM End]
Just then, there was a knock on the door as it caught the attention of all of them.
"I'll get it." Eight offered, carefully placing Munchie into his pocket before walking up to the door to answer it. To his surprise, there was Melissa standing on the other side.
[BGM: Unexpected Visitor – Touhou: Immaterial and Missing Power]
"Princess Melissa?" he asked.
"Hello again, Eight." Melissa greeted.
"Eight, you know her?" Eleven asked as he and the others came over.
"It's a long story…" Eight replied, and then Melissa took a good look at the four of them.
"Hmm, yes… They should do nicely." she thought before requesting them all with a serious expression, "You four. Come with me."
The four Heroes looked at each other before shrugging and followed Melissa to a room containing a Warp Pipe.
"Head down into this Warp Pipe. A mission awaits you all on the other side of it." Melissa said as she got on top of it. "I'll be waiting for you all on the other side." she goes into the Pipe.
"…Well, how ironic." Eleven glanced at Solo. "You said we wouldn't be called out to a mission, and yet here we are."
"Honestly, I never thought I would jinx it." Solo replied sheepishly as Arusu walked up to the Warp Pipe and looked down into it, seeing nothing but pitch-blackness.
"There's nothing in there! How do we know if it's safe or not?" he questioned.
"Don't worry, Warp Pipes are perfectly safe." Eight assured. "If you'd like, I can go in first." he proceeded to jump into the pipe.
"Hey, hold up!" Arusu called out, but Eight had already leapt up and gone into the pipe, as Arusu watched him disappear into the blackness. "How do you even know that?! Get back here!" he jumped in after Eight, as Eleven and Solo stood there while exchanging astonished glances before shrugging and jumping into the pipe after them.
[BGM: Wanted Nia – Xenoblade Chronicles 2]
(Timestamp – 0:00 ~ 0:42)
At the hills of the Mushroom Kingdom, Melissa was standing next to the Warp Pipe waiting for the Heroes to come out. Soon, the Warp Pipe made a noise and then Eight came out of it and this time, he landed on his feet perfectly.
"Ah, you finally stuck the landing this time!" Melissa joked, as Eight couldn't help but chuckle in response.
"Very funny." he replied before looking around. "Anyway, it's nice to be back in the Mushroom Kingdom again."
"I'm happy to hear that." Melissa smiled, and then the Warp Pipe made the same noise again as the rest of the Heroes came out.
"AAAAUGH!" however, unlike Eight, who was already used to using Warp Pipes, they were still not used to it and immediately lost their balance and fell to the ground.
*THUD!*
(Timestamp – 0:43 ~ 2:11)
Eight and Melissa winced as Eleven, Arusu, and Solo had crashed on top of each other, with Arusu ending up at the bottom of the pile while Eleven was on top.
"Well… These ones certainly aren't used to it just yet…" Melissa sweatdropped.
"Get…OFF ME, you guys!" Arusu growled.
"Okay, just settle down!" Solo replied and then looked up at Eleven. "Eleven, could you slip off of us so we can get out of this?" he requested.
"Oh, sorry." Eleven said and got out first, allowing Solo to stand up to get off of Arusu.
"Alas, we've made it." Melissa said as Eleven, Arusu, and Solo looked around them in awe. "This is the land Eight had been before meeting you three. It is called the Mushroom Kingdom."
"That's quite a sight from up here." Solo commented.
"And those are some, uh… interesting-looking hills…" Eleven trailed, slightly weirded out by the hills sporting eyes on them.
Arusu, meanwhile, was looking up at the sky as he was weirded out by the clouds having eyes as they slowly drifted by… but oh no, it didn't stop there. One of the clouds proceeded to wink at him that the rest of the Heroes just so happened to notice that and were snickering quietly, as Arusu looked like he was about to go insane at any second… and then he yelled out loud:
"Did a FREAKING CLOUD just WINK AT ME!?"
"Hey, at least someone in this world has noticed you." Solo snarked.
"And it was a cloud!" Eight exclaimed as the trio burst out laughing.
"NOT FUNNY!" Arusu shot back, as he was sporting some cross-popping veins (the name of that red anime-style tic mark that shows up when a character is angry) on top of his head and angry blank eyes.
"They sure are a lively bunch." Melissa thought while giggling, before she cleaned her throat to get the Heroes' attention so that the subject would be changed.
[BGM End]
"Anyways, moving back to our main subject…" she said with a serious expression. "Follow me down towards that town over there, and once we get to the castle, I'll tell you about your mission." she then led the Heroes down the hills and guided them to Toad Town.
[BGM: Toad Town – Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time]
Unfortunately, due to the Bullet Bill bombardment from last night, most of Toad Town was destroyed, with fallen trees, cracks on the roads, burnt-out bushes, and destroyed Toad Houses.
"Oh no… What happened to the town…?" Eight whispered.
Melissa just sighed. "The cause of this involves about what I have to tell you about your mission, so let's first make our way to the castle and I'll explain everything."
The Heroes then followed Melissa, while at the same time glancing pitifully at the destruction as well as the Toads around either crying out of despair, trying to slowly repair the damage, or staring apprehensively at the Heroes as they passed by, until they finally reached Peach's Castle and went in.
[BGM: Princess Peach's Castle – New Super Mario Bros Wii]
Once inside, the group walked into the foyer, where Toadsworth just so happened to be standing by and noticed Melissa's presence.
"Ah! You're back, Princess Melissa!" he exclaimed, running up to her.
"Hey, Toadsworth." Melissa replied. "I believe I have brought the people who'll be worthy enough to take up on the task." she stepped aside so that the old Toad could see the Heroes clearly.
"Oh! Eight has returned!" Toadsworth thought, as Eight was the first one he noticed, and then shifted his gaze at the other Heroes with him. "And these new lads with him… Yes, I'm sure they'll be perfect for this!"
"…Toadsworth, was it?" Eight spoke up, causing the other Heroes to glance at him with a 'you know him?!' look on their faces. "You do recognize me, don't you?" he asked with a smile.
"I do! Welcome back again to the Mushroom Kingdom, Master Eight." Toadsworth replied before directing the Heroes to a couch on the side. "Please, have a seat. I'll be leaving for a moment, so make yourselves comfortable." he said as he headed off to the kitchen, and the Heroes sat down on the couch while Melissa sat on a chair besides them.
"So… Who is this Toadsworth?" Eleven asked.
"From what he told me, he is Princess Peach's steward." Eight answered. "The last time I met him was in Isle Delfino, when I helped out Mario and his friends in a quest."
"Exactly." Melissa nodded.
"Ah, I see." Eleven said, and then Toadsworth came back holding a tray of tea.
"Would you care for some tea?" he asked.
"Yes, please." Eleven nodded as the Heroes each took a cup, while Toadsworth sat down on the chair next to Melissa.
"Now, I already know Eight, so please tell me your names." Toadsworth requested, referring to Eleven, Arusu, and Solo.
"I'm Eleven."
"Arusu."
"And I'm Solo."
"Hmm, interesting names." Toadsworth nodded. "Well, I am-"
"There's no need to. They already know who you are." Melissa interjected, interrupting Toadsworth.
"Oh, alright." he then cleaned his throat. "So, you might be wondering about your mission, right?"
"That's right." Solo nodded, along with the others.
"Then allow me to start up." Melissa said. "Last night, a dark storm has fallen upon the Mushroom Kingdom. And to make matters worse, an attack was laid at Toad Town, leaving it into that state you've seen back outside."
"That attack was led by Bowser, the evil Koopa king who rules the Dark Land, located far beyond this lovely kingdom." Toadsworth added. "He's known for constantly kidnapping the Mushroom Kingdom's ruler, Princess Peach Toadstool, but luckily, Master Mario, and sometimes Master Luigi alongside him, would always save her."
"But sadly, things went different this time. Not only Bowser succeeded in kidnapping Peach again, but he has also managed to capture Mario and his brother Luigi too." Melissa sighed sadly.
"Wait, Bowser has kidnapped Mario and Luigi as well?!" Eight gasped.
"Unfortunately, yes. And because the Mushroom Kingdom was left quite defenseless with the Mario Brothers and the princess's absence, the morale of all the residents has dropped down as they had no idea where to find people who can take up Mario's job of rescue. So, Toadsworth here requested me to find good people for this task."
"And you believe that we can do this?" Eight wondered.
"Well, Eight, I knew that you could be a perfect candidate since I and my sister saw so much potential in you during our last two adventures. And now you having three new Heroes on your side, who possibly share the same or similar abilities as you, could be even better. In fact, you guys' Smasher name is 'Hero', right? From what I heard, heroes must always help out those in need and fight against evil."
"You got that right!" Arusu grinned. "I've been bored lately, so count me in!"
"I'm in too." Eleven nodded.
"And me." Solo nodded.
"I've already ventured out of the Mushroom Kingdom once, so it'll be exciting to do it again!" Eight chimed in.
Melissa clasped her hands together in delight. "Oh, I knew I could count on you!"
"You all sure you can pull it off?" Toadsworth questioned. "The road to Bowser's kingdom is quite… treacherous."
"Oh please, like that could stop us!" Arusu exclaimed confidently.
"Right!" Eleven got up. "We can do this!" the other Heroes nodded with determined smirks before getting up as well.
"If you say so, then I shall put all of my faith on you." Toadsworth said. "For now on, you're the only ones who can rescue Masters Mario and Luigi and the princess."
Melissa stood up as well. "I shall be your guide on this adventure, as you've got a lot to learn about the Mushroom World."
"Sounds fair enough." Eleven agreed as they got ready to leave. "Oh, and thanks for the tea, Toadsworth." he bowed.
"You're welcome, lads." Toadsworth replied. "Now, go. The Mushroom Kingdom is depending on you!"
The four Heroes nodded and left the castle along with Melissa.
[BGM End]
"Before you set out on your adventure, Heroes, I'd like to show you something." Melissa told them once they were back outside.
"Sure. What is it?" Eleven asked.
"Follow me." Melissa guided them to where the now leafless Tail Tree was. "This is a special tree called the Tail Tree. It is a tree that's highly admired by the kingdom's inhabitants, and it produces many Super Leaves."
"Uh… But where exactly are its leaves? I don't see any…" Eight tilted his head.
"The storm from last night blew them all away." Melissa lamented.
"Oh…" Eight frowned.
"Hey! Princess Melissa!" a voice called out.
[BGM: Opening 1 – Super Mario 3D Land]
Eventually, three Toads – red, blue and yellow ones – came in rushing towards Melissa as she and the Heroes looked down at them in surprise.
"What's the matter, Toads?" Melissa asked.
"We were just taking a stroll around here until this envelope came flying in here!" Red Toad said, showing a yellow envelope with wings and a red heart seal.
"Hmm… Let me see it." Melissa requested.
Red Toad handed her the envelope and she opened it, revealing a postcard depicting Bowser holding Mario, Luigi, and Peach in his hands, as said trio had looks of despair on their faces, with a few Super Leaves around in the background, and a letter.
[BGM End]
'To whoever this letter reaches out to,
I, Mario and Luigi were unfortunately captured by Bowser all at once thanks to his new powerful minions known as the evil organization. We are currently held captive in Bowser's Castle right now, but… There appears to have a strange barrier covering the entire castle, so I'm afraid that getting inside might not be as easy as it sounds.
If you are reading this, then I have a request: please find a group that'll be our rescuers; those who can take the Mario Brothers' role.
From Peach'
Immediately after Melissa finished reading the letter, all of the three Toads did an eye take, panic rushing through them.
"Wait…" Yellow Toad spoke shakily. "Not only has Princess Peach been kidnapped again…but…" he suddenly let out a yell, "MARIO AND LUIGI WERE KIDNAPPED TOO?!"
[BGM: Opening 2 – Super Mario 3D Land]
Cue the Toads going into a panic attack, as they began to run around in circles while flailing their arms. Melissa and the Heroes could do nothing but watch in stunned silence as each of the Toads cried out:
"WHAT DO WE DO?! THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM IS DEFENSELESS!" Blue Toad.
"WHO'S GOING TO SAVE THEM?! I CAN'T THINK!" Red Toad.
"PANIC! PANIC! IT'S THE END OF OUR ADVENTURES!" Yellow Toad.
"Guys, CALM DOWN!" Melissa called out to them loudly. "I've already found the ones who can save them!"
*record scratch*
The three Toads grinded to a halt, still in the positions they were taking before stopping in place, and their eyes immediately met Melissa's.
"You…have?" Yellow Toad asked.
Melissa smiled. "Yes. They're right here."
[BGM: Usual Days – Touhou: Scarlet Weather Rhapsody]
She stepped aside to let the Toads see the Heroes for the first time, as they were still staring down at the Toads in awe.
"Whoa, they look strong!" Blue Toad exclaimed. "Who are these guys?"
Melissa directed a hand to the Heroes. "Meet Eleven, Arusu, Solo, and Eight. They're heroes from different periods of time, but they possess similarly incredible potential. They specialize in swordplay and magic at the same time, so I'm sure that they are not to be messed with."
The Toads looked intrigued at this.
"Are you guys actually going to save the Mario Brothers and Princess Peach?" Red Toad asked.
"We are." Eleven nodded with a smile, as the rest of the Heroes did the same. "As heroes, we would never turn down a request such as this one."
"Hooray!" Yellow Toad cheered along with the other two Toads. Then, they looked back at the Heroes as Red Toad told them:
"If you guys are going to help, then we'll also try our best to help you out too! You see, we Toads are expert Power-Up collectors, so we can fetch you some Power-Ups that we can find! Just look for a Toad House to find us!"
"Understood!" Eight nodded.
"Great! We'll be off, then! Bye!" Blue Toad exclaimed, he and the two Toads waving before they took off.
"Just wondering, what exactly are those Power-Ups that the Toads mentioned?" Solo asked Melissa.
"They're special items that can exist in many forms, and grant the user diverse abilities." Melissa explained. "I assure you; you are probably going to encounter many of those throughout your adventure, and they can be proven to be very useful, so be on the lookout for those!"
"Ah, got it."
"Oh, and by the way, I've just heard words from the Star People that… apparently, some Power-Ups can grant additional or new abilities and sometimes a more distinct appearance if the ones using them do not belong to this world. You guys totally fill the bill, so who knows what might happen to you when you use these Power-Ups?" Melissa winked at the last sentence, as the Heroes exchanged glances.
"Well… I guess this could be interesting." Eight shrugged.
"Yeah." Eleven threw in. "Alright, so… how do we reach Bowser's kingdom from here?"
"To get to the Dark Land, where Bowser resides, you first need to get past seven worlds. In each of these seven worlds, there are a number of courses to complete. At the end of each world is an enemy base belonging to Bowser's minions, and you have to defeat its guardian in order to advance to the next world." Melissa instructed.
"Okay, sounds simple enough." Arusu said.
"I believe you are now ready to set off. Just follow down this road up ahead to get to the first world." Melissa pointed at the road to the side. "I will check up on you momentarily, so you won't be alone. Until then, I wish you all good luck on your adventure." she bowed.
"Thanks, Melissa." Eleven smiled before glancing back at his three comrades. "Come on, guys. Let's go!"
The others immediately nodded and took off following the road, ready to begin what would possibly be the grandest journey of their lives.
To be continued…

Outtake 1: Forgetting something important…
With that done, Kamek flew back into the castle… ooonly to smack headfirst into the barrier he just created.
"OW!" he yelled. "Why can't I… OH." he blinked in realization after shaking it off. "I forgot to make the barrier passible only by me, Your Nastiness and his troops…"
Outtake 2: Miscalculated jump height
"Don't worry, Warp Pipes are perfectly safe." Eight assured. "If you'd like, I can go in first." he proceeded to jump into the pipe… except that he jumped too low and hit his ankle on the edge of the pipe as a result. "ACK!" he yelped with a pained expression and fell down to the ground while holding on to his ankle, feeling shriveling pain. "Ow ow ow!"
"How the heck did you mess that up?!" Arusu questioned.
"That looks like it would hurt…" Eleven trailed.
Starting this up, we finally have an introduction of my newest "villain" OC teased at the end of Princess Jewel Sunshine! Yuri Saigyouji ('Yuri' means 'lily' in Japanese, while 'saigyouji' literally means 'west journey temple') is my OC from the Touhou Project franchise. She's a yurei, the Japanese counterpart of a vengeful ghost, and is the sister of Yuyuko Saigyouji, an actual character that belongs to the franchise. Her ability is the opposite of Yuyuko's: while Yuyuko manipulates dead souls, Yuri manipulates living souls, or in other words, souls who haven't left the mortal world yet. And as for her backstory... I'm afraid that you'll have to be a little more patient for that because you have to know more about the Touhou franchise in order to understand Yuri's backstory. But don't worry; I'm actually planning to do a Touhou-based story somewhere in the future, so those who don't know the franchise will get to know about it!
Now, how do you like the outtakes at the end? I was still thinking about if I should put them or not, but since I really wanted to enforce the humor genre in this story as well as to make it even more unique, I decided to add them in! I don't know if every chapter will feature outtakes, but I'll try to come up with good ones if I can!
The adventure begins for our Heroes! Until next time!
Trivia for this chapter:
1. The part where Kamek mentions about shrinking Mario and friends after they fell into a trap and Mario and Luigi getting kidnapped once previously are references to the events of Mario Party DS and Super Princess Peach respectively.
2. A common misconception among those who are unfamiliar with the Dragon Quest franchise is that the Hero Arusu is always referred to as 'Erdrick' as if that is his actual name. In truth, Erdrick is just a title name and not his real name, as Eleven has also received the title of Erdrick in his home game despite 'Luminary' being his most known title. Speaking of Eleven, he's also given the same treatment as Arusu, being called by his title name, but less frequently compared to Arusu.
